What a lot of busy bees we've been today, perhaps because we know we can have a lay-in in the morning :D

    1. nsd
    2. Up early and had the washing on the line by 8am
    3. Learned to use an electric drill - tried knocking drainage holes in the bottom of three large plastic tubs with a screwdriver and hammer but stupid shoulders won't let me - thanks, arthritis . Then remembered I have a cordless drill so charged it for an hour and away I went! I love it, now looking for other projects which need a drill :D. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks?
    4. Broke up some polystyrene packing material to put in the base of the tubs before putting in a layer of soil. Now they're ready for when the tree/shrubs/compost arrive on Tuesday :). Packing from freezers, kettles etc that come in the shape on the item, or protect the corners iyswim, is great to use in place of broken crocks in the bottom of planters, I always put it in the shed rather than throw it away
    5. Dug out the root of the old gooseberry bush, took me best part of the afternoon but it was a beautiful day so a pleasure to be outside
    6. Baked a fat/egg-free fruit loaf, or cup cake as my neighbours DD calls it as all the measuring in done in a cup, and a date and walnut cake
    7. Did some ironing while watching Strictly.
    8. Did some creative accounting and almost have enough for February's fare to India :j
    9. Postie brought me some fruit tea samples. They'll go next door as I really don't like them, just my Earl/Lady grey, and green tea
    10. Had such a kind and thoughful pm from a fellow OS'er, I was very touched by her thinking to write and share her feelings with me :)
    11. Last but not least, had a lovely long chat with another fellow OS'er who has the same name as my DNeighbour :D, such a kind person who's never met me but even extended an invitation if I'm ever up her way. Thank you, I really appreciated that but don't panic, I'm not going to take advantage and rush oop norf just yet ;)

Night night, sweet dreams and have a good Sunday

Evening all  - quite a mild day and evening here - managed to have the back door open for most of the day.

ott09 - I am a bit of a 'night owl' and can get by on not much sleep - BUT every now and again, it catches up with me. Hope you managed to get through all your marking and lesson planning - I know my sister has just had a panic on when she realised that it was Saturday today ;). She's a TA dealing mostly with children with extra-support needs.
beachbaby - Hope you and your friend enjoyed your coffee-time together :coffee: and that this evening goes well too .
villagelife - sounds like you've had a great cookery day :T.
ampersand - did you manage to get any bargains at your jumble sale?
Primrose - my lawn-mower man has done his last visit for the year and our local authority only has 2 more pickups of garden waste until February when they start again - my how the year soon flies! wd to your OH on the BaraBryth :T.
sparrer - I did notes for all my tenants during the week including a reminder to put the clocks/watches (and c/h timers) BACK one hour tonight AND I reminded them again on Friday morning - wonder how many will have forgotten by Monday. I'm off on Monday, so am wondering what kind of panic will have ensued about c/h not coming on on schedule :rotfl:.
CCP - another one having a day of cookery :T. Do you have a link for the ghost game that you found on the internet - I'm sure my dgk's would love to have a go when they visit me :D.
dundeedoll - glad to hear that you enjoyed your 'solo day' at the country park - I love those kind of places at this time of year - not too many crowds around and so peaceful.
Ladyhawk - Great day there - lovely walk and a new friend - wow 10mls - wtg!!!
Frith - special HSarmhugs_9780.giffor you and hope that you feel more settled soon.
GirlySquare - wd on making a start on clearing your allotment - great start to planning for next year's growing season. Thanks for the comment on my fairy cakes :).
jaxx - wd you on your child-free evening and red wine/chips/dips :j.
Tealady - lol at your four mile walk for a pint of UHT milk :rotfl:.wtg on your Debenham's voucher - seems like lots of peeps have been getting these recently :j.
Blimus - enjoy your lie-in tomorrow morning and fingers crossed that your boys are suitably exhausted and actually let you have that lie-in ;).
Patchwork - wd on finishing the front of your jumper knitting.gif.
sparrer - wtg on managing to use your cordless drill :T - great feeling when you do something that you'd normally let a man do for you.

    Mine for today:

    1. Grateful that we managed to get the evening meal sorted out - eventually. Lots left over and now in containers and ready for freezer tomorrow morning when completley chilled.

    2. Lovely day here today and managed to get a load of laundry done.

    3. Beans on Toast for lunch - remembered to use up the remaining beans from yesterday's lunch :j.

    4. I've got yellow split peas soaking overnight for a pan of Pea and Ham Soup to be done tomorrow.

    5. Baked a Lemon Drizzle Cake to take to DD's tomorrow.

Hope everybody manages a good full night's sleep tonight. HShugs211_32276.gif for everybody who wants or needs one - love Ollie xxx

    ps - don't forget your clocks/watches tonight.

    Happy halloween everyone!
Thanks for all the congrats on my 21 month quit smoking anniversary! Does feel good :j
Been a busy old week - heaven knows how I managed to work full time. Even working just 2 days seems to get in the way :D

Pleasures for the past few days :-

    1) The space bar on my laptop seems to have unjammed itself. It was pretty difficult to understand anything I typed this past few days..
    2) WW weigh-in tomorrow. I have had an SP (sneaky peek) and I might have 1.5lb weight loss to record. Unless that piece of chocolate cake slyly puts a few pounds on between now and the morning
    3) Finally, have almost sorted out all my craft stuff. It was a voyage of discovery as I came across all sorts I'd forgotten I'd got. Hopefully the new storage system is going to make life easier to find things
    4) Made a start on making my Christmas cards and gift tags
    5) No work tomorrow :D

  • Good afternoon all. Weather has changed for the worse now, but my heater is on and the candles and pumpkin are lit. Everyone sounds to have been really busy of late.
CCP, all your cooking sounds delicious.
dundeedoll, I do indeed have some blessings at the moment, I just have to try much harder to see them just now. Shame I missed the dancers you mention but I don't watch strictly.
Ladyhawk, I have to admit I thought the same as dundeedoll about your bath!
Frith and Girlysquare, me and my girls also enjoyed Despicable Me, especially the photocopier incident!
Jaxx, I bet the goldfish are cute. I just have the one - he's 12.
Tealady, couldn't help but laugh about the UHT milk.
Blimus, it's lovely when you can go out without a coat on at this time of year.
Patchwork, how nice to have a 'date' with your DH.
Sparrer, gosh, you had such a busy day. I hope I didn't hold you up with my ramblings.
Olliebeak, beans on toast! It's amazing how something so simple is so gorgeous.
Villagelife, I love jigsaws - they are addictive.
frugalpam, have a lovely day off work tomorrow.
Not feeling too well this afternoon so had a good catch up on this thread. My five for today,
    1. Had a lovely evening with my sister and we all enjoyed the food.
    2. Going to look at the christmas section of a local garden centre. Gets you in the mood.
    3. Last nights leftovers for lunch - they always taste better the day after.
    4. Carving the pumpkin with DD2.
    5. No work this evening. Going to have a nice hot shower instead.
    Love to all. X

    Afternoon all.

I'll get my pleasures in early today as I really need to spend some time in front of my lightbox, and I've found it's not easy to do while I'm sitting at the computer. Shame!

    1) A nicely lazy day after yesterday's flurry of activity.

    2) Banana cake for breakfast. :o Well, if it's got fruit in it it's got to be healthy, right? ;)

    3) Sorted out my home insurance for this year - £20 less than my renewal quote thanks to a comparison website, with £19 cashback as well. :j

    4) Finding out that my sister's got a rebate of over £500 from the taxman. smiley-shocked013.gif Nice timing as she and her partner have just moved into a flat together. :)

    5) Finally got round to doing a freezer inventory and it's not quite as bad as I thought it would be - another week of eating from the freezer and I should have disposed of most of the contents.

beachbaby - hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad you had a nice evening yesterday.

frugalpam - wd on your weightloss - that's great going. :T

Ollie - the ghost game's here - hope the gk's enjoy it.

sparrer - that's great thinking on using polystyrene as crocks in plant pots. Why did I never think of that?

Tealady - I know exactly what you mean about rainbows. I love them - they make rain worthwhile, somehow.

GirlySquare - it's good to see you back, and I'm very glad to hear your mum's settling into her new home OK.

Have a lovely evening all. I'm off to the local pub quiz later, which is Halloween-themed fancy dress this week - I'm not looking forward to walking up there dressed as a witch's cat, I must admit! :o
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all.

Beachbaby - hope you feel better soon

CCP - you're a lady after my own heart... banana bread is definitely an acceptable breakfast!

Ollie - thanks as always for the time and care that you take replying to everyones posts... wish I could sample some of the lemon drizzle cake...

Sparrer - you are clearly a one woman drilling machine!

    Girly - welcome back!

I have had a very lazy day. I am completely shattered after the hike yesterday. My hip is still sore from walking so far - I think there is something wrong with the tendon or something in there.

    1) Lie in this morning - I finished the trashy chick-lit book I was reading.

    2) I did a load of weeding in the garden (obviously!) even though it was raining. I also spread out the horse manure and the bark chips so the garden is looking a lot smarter (despite the grass being a lot longer than it should be)

    3) Being kept company while I was weeding by a gorgous little robin.

    4) Finishing one half of my blanket finally! It's only taken 3 months!

    5) NSD! Woohoo!! that makes 5 this week.

    Have a great week everyone.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hi all

Thanks for more congratulations re. leaving job and purple hair! I am feeling a bit bashed up today, as tomorrow I shall attend The Big Work Event and am not feeling comfortable about it at all (but that is a sure sign that my decision to leave is absolutely right!). However, I am going to focus on the positive. DH told me to think about it like I did for the incident of the "unwanted guest" a few weeks back. He suggested that I just let it pass and that in a few days it will only be a memory.

He is so right, and also I need to think that in a few weeks this job will also be a memory!

Missed posting my pleasures for yesterday as I was out and about a lot, here they are, followed by the ones for today.

    Saturday:

1 - Beans on toast breakfast in bed, courtesy of DH.

2 - REading and relaxing while DH was at his martial arts.

3 - Gave two birthday cards (with a small amount of money in) to two boys, both friends' sons. Glad to be able to join in their celebrations!

4 - Dinner with friends at their home with DH, where we met also a few other people we hadn't seen for a while.

5 - The crochet blanket that I am making for DS is progressing well.

    Sunday:

1 - Scrambled egg with chilli and spring onion on toast, courtesy of DH (oh dear, one of these days I have to take my turn hehehe).

2 - DH's cousin and aunt visited and had a cup of tea with us before going off, he was driving her back North and had stopped to see us on the way.

3 - Freebie film with DH, My Afternoons with Margueritte, very beautiful, moving and funny. I would not have minded paying for it, but free it was even better!

4 - Shopping at the Farmers Market, got lots of lovely veg and a loaf of bread.

5 - Got a M&S Eat in for £10, which is really good value as we can stretch it to two meals for two (at least) - 4 fish cakes, mixed veg, lattice apple and blackberry pie and a bottle of red wine. Could have made it cheaper myself but it was meant to be a treat (as we resisted going out for lunch after the cinema) so it worked out really well - as a treat, that is!

6 - Booked coach and hotel to go to the Birmingham OS meet in January, with DH! We are treating it as our usual New Year weekend away, only it is great to have booked (and paid it - I used the debit card) now, while I still have a salary. And to be frugal we decided to go for one night only, rather than leaving Friday evening we go from Saturday morning. Got both coach and hotel on special offers so I feel extra-virtuous!

Please wish me luck with tomorrow, I am full of nerves about the whole palaver, even if I try to remind myself that by tomorrow evening it will be over, as DH says!

Have a good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Good evening!

    Mine for today:

1 Made a variety of scones:soda, plain and potato. It's the first time I've tried potato and soda scones, and,oh boy were they good!

    2 Went for a 3 mile run.

3 It's been a lovely day here, had the windows open all day.

4 Trying the remain positive as winter approaches:the dreaded month of November is almost here.

5 Finding time tonight to have a manicure. My hands are a mess just now.

Hope you all have a good week x

It's been hard to find some pleasures today.
    1. Was planning to cook a rare full English breakfast after our extra hour in bed but on opening the fridge, a bottle of wine fell out, smashing on the kitchen floor and causing general chaos.
    2. We'd planned a nice Autumn walk in nearby woods but the heavens opened and it has rained all day so haven't even poked our noses out of the door.
    3. It was dark by 5 p.m, and it feels like bedtime. Where did the day go?

These clock changes always make me grumpy and depressed. Hopefully I'll be in a more cheerful mood next time I post.
