Hi all
Quickly in to post my picture, aptly named: Purple Hair and Pinny - so I can show off my new purple fringe AND my crossover pinny in one go! Here is the link:

Good evening all.
I'm sorry I haven't been around for a while - my 'week off' has turned out far busier than my normal working week! It's mostly been fun, although I'm a bit worried about my sister - she's always had a tendency to get a dodgy tummy when she's stressed, but at the moment it's so bad she can't even keep water down, and has lost far too much weight.I think (hope) she's going back to her doctor on Monday to see if there's anything they can do to stop her feeling ill the whole time, so she can get some food inside her.
Anyway, pleasures for today:
1) Bought my sister a set of three books she's been after for a while, and they didn't cost me anything as I used the credit note I got for selling the bookshop some of my old books.
2) Reading through all the pleasures I've missed over the past week.
3) Portsmouth FC still exist (for the time being), and won today. :j
4) HG cherry toms for dinner - there's not many left now, so I'll enjoy every one.
5) I put the central heating on while my sister was here, and I can't now see any reason to turn it off again.Snuggly warmth tonight.
Caterina - love your hair!
Ladyhawk - that's great news about your mum.
sparrer - hugs to you.
Hello to all the new posters who've arrived while I've been away. :hello:
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi,
I'd like to join this thread as I am struggling a bit with depression and reading through have realised that I do have some pleasures in life. Mine for today...
1) Lie in this morning and it's half term so more to come.
2) Tried a new recipe today for a rock cake traybake and it's come out well.
3) DS (15) has taken a day off of being a surly teenager.
4) DP is making spicey sausage pasta for tea, and bought a bottle of red wine to go with it!
5) Last but not least I share with CCP Pompey FC is still alive and kicking.
Best wishes to allSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
Hi everyone.
:hello: Welcome Jaxx
KB - sorry you are going through a tough time at the moment. Whatever the news was I hope that you are still able to see the light.
I have had a lovely chilled day. Slightly stressy as I know I will need to do some work tomorrow and I really hate working on the weekends.
I went to a new butcher today... it was really busy (10 min wait) and I asked for a small leg of lamb. He asked how many people it was going to serve. I said it was just me... he responded... "oh that's so sad"... so even the butcher I have nevermet before thinks my singledom is tragic!
1) Cuddles from kitty
2) Pottered in the garden and got it ready for winter. All I need to do now is get some horse poo and some bark chips and then it will be all done.
3) Making fruit mince meat for mince pies... it smells yummy! I didn't have all the right dried fruit so hopefully my improvision will be nice!
4) Small bottle of cider this evening... a nice treat.
5) Posted off two items that I sold on Amazon. The massive earnings from them (all £6.20) in now safely in the belly of my mortgage pig.
6) Finished a square for my blanket.
Night all.
Sleep tight.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all  - another cold, damp day here today, but still managed to get out to our local shopping centre.
Kitchenbunny - sorry to hear how unsettled things are for you at home at the moment - ((((hugs)))) for you and hope 'it all sorts itself out'. Enjoy your baking session.
Caterina - love the purple fringe and wtg you on your pinny :T.
CCP - how lovely of you to spend your credit note on cheering your sister up with the books you know she'll love :A. Wd to Portsmouth - hope it a sign of good things to come for them. :shhh: I'm saying NOTHING at all about my team [STRIKE]Liverpool[/STRIKE].
jaxx46 - :hello: and welcome - sorry to hear about your depression ((((hugs)))) - hope you find some comfort/support in this thread. I know it helps me to keep focused on the positives, even when I think that nothing IS positive. wd to your DS for NOT being 'a Kevin' today :T and your OH's Spicy Sausage Pasta sounds absolutely .
Ladyhawk - sorry to hear your butcher's comment made you feelabout 'singledom' - it's preferrable to being in a relationship with the wrong person. I wouldn't worry at all - you just never know when something/somebody will come along ............ Maybe Santa's got a lovely Christmas Surprise lined up specially for YOU
.
Mine for today:
1. 9.00am phone call from sis to say that the overdue baby was on it's way from 3.30am this morning. Then another call an hour later to say niece was going for a C-section due to baby being distressed. Later call to say mum and baby now doing well and distress had been caused by cord around neck 4x . Riley Joseph weighed in at 6lbs 15 3/4ozs. (Same thing happened to my DD 30yrs ago but she was delivered naturally - no baby monitors on their heads back then. DD was 'floppy', spent 48hrs in intensive care and 2wks in special care unit being tube fed. She's always had a 'gruff voice' due to her voicebox being crushed and needed speech therapy till 10yrs old. At least the C-section has avoided all that kind of thing happening to this little one.)
2. Trip to village shopping centre and my favourite charity shop. Two cookery books (Jane Bowring's 'Appetisers, Soups and Entrees' and M&S 'Make More of Vegetables') and 'The Forgotten Garden' by Kate Morton for 50p each. The plan is to go through the cookery books, copy, save and printout recipes that I like the look of and then return the books to the same shop for resale.
3. Visit to Ethel Austin's (in process of changing identity) and got a bargain pack of 4prs knickers and a new bra for £7.20 :j - given that I'm a lady of 'very generous proportions - 44DD' that makes it even more of a bargain .
4. Managed to exchange the pj's that OH had bought for dgd2 in HomeBargains. Very obliging as nothing wrong with them apart from wrong size! Got sensible Dora Explorer brushed cotton trad ones for £3.99 - instead of 't-shirty stuff Disney Princess'.
5. For me, no shopping trip is complete unless I get to Asda - and they didn't let me down. Whoopsies - ExtraSpecial toms 46p (£1.65); baby plum toms 46p (£1.17); Doughnut Selection 83p (£1.97); Mango 30p; Trout fillets £1.12 (£2.01); Bananas 50p (£1.27); 1kg carrots 50p; leeks and Cantaloupe Melon 19p (£1.97). They also had their SmartPrice Lamb Stewing Packs for around £3.00 a pack - got two. They will be slow cooked for Lamb Casserole and then frozen into at least four meals for two people. Lots of Rollbacks on things that I wanted to buy as well - so a very successful visit :T.
6. Message from a previously unknown relative on my Family History website - all very exciting as she lives quite close to me :j.
7. Speaking with a friend in Scotland (met while on holiday there) - been ages since we 'caught up'. Hearing her voice/accent always makes me very 'holiday-sick' (can't call it 'home-sick'). Telling me that all the mountains around her home are sprinkled with snow and it's looking very picturesque - made me feel really 'down in the dumps' - thanks very much Nessie!
That's me done for tonight - need to get offski and get some fairy cakes baked for dgd2's birthday tomorrow.
((((HUGS)))) to all who need them - nitey nite - love Ollie xxx0 -
Evening all,
Not been on this thread for ages, then noticed Ollie was posting! Who I havent seen post for a while - you've probably been back ages. Hope all is well
Hi to all the regulars and the newbies and the lurkers
I have generally felt sorry for myself today. Felt very tired and worn out from work. Had a mini kip. Tinkered on internet and then exhausted myself food shopping getting home just before an enormous dark cloud of rain really let loose. Still got a bit wet but nothing like the monsoon that followed.
So positives...
1. Home made Nandos style chicken, yum, yum.
2. Buying my favourite jam today - small pleasure I know but I have kept forgetting and it's Wilkins, so lovely on toast and in porridge.
3. A lie in and some extra kips.
4. Watching the dog playing with the other half.
5. Watching Michael MacIntyre on tv.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks

Good morning all. Sparrer, I'm sorry to read you have been on the recieving end of such bitterness. It must seem so unfair. I really feel for you. Caterina, great hair, you look fantastic!
Well I'm still feeling low but am working through it. I had a lovely time in Blackpool but the most important thing is that the girls thoroughly enjoyed it. On Friday evening we had a tram ride, went to a fish and chip restaurant and saw the lights. Yesterday we had a walk on the beach, played a few 2p slots, did some shopping and had freshly cooked donuts - they were yummy.
So here are mine for the last couple of days,
1. A nice clean hotel and parking right in front without having to pay!
2. My girls' smiling faces.
3. DD1 Laughing her head off at a joke made at her Uncles expense - he didn't mind!
4. Kind lady taking a photo of us all on the beach, so we have a picture of all of us together.
5. Slowly managing to make sense of my new mobile phone.
6. DD1 getting a dress she has wanted for ages - half price in the sale. It was me who spotted it so I am now just 'the best' and it's the best holiday she has ever had.
7. Getting some nice warm mittens for DD2 and the top she wanted last week we managed to buy for £5 off!
8. Knowing that even though I'm finding it incredibly difficult emotionally, I know I can manage on my own and I hope it will get easier.
9. X-factor and a crunchie,
10. My little dogs face when I picked her up from kennels.
Oh, and after this evening I am off all week with my girls! Can't wait. Hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend.
Love to all. X0 -
Morning, everyone. Thanks for the hugs - they are needed. Yesterday was quite a good day even though we didn't accomplish an awful lot, but you have to have days like that sometimes. Here are the high points:
1. A driving lesson first thing, and it didn't go too bad.
2. Doing my daily session of Pilates from a DVD. I feel better about myself when I do that.
3. Walking the mile or so to Mr T for a few packs of mushrooms. We also came away with a film we wanted at cut price, but when we went to leave it was pelting it down.
4. DH called a close friend who was happy to give us a lift home. I'm really grateful for friends like that.
5. DH bought me a caramel latte from the coffee shop. I can make the cinnamon syrup but have no idea how to make a caramel one!
The film was pretty good - Daybreakers - about vampires - and we also enjoyed watching Strictly. I really want Pamela to do well.Tea was a bit of a flop though - beef stroganoff. I've not been able to make it for ages without the sauce splitting
. Still, DH was gracious about it, saying it was likely to be the mushrooms or something, but I know it's me really. Win some, lose some. We've got chicken fajitas for tea tonight, and yes, there'll be Cornish Pasties by the end of the day. Hope everyone has a good day.
Beachbaby - sounds like the holiday was great. Well done on spotting that dress half price in the sale.
Mineallmine - Good to see you. I don't suppose you have a recipe for that Nando's chicken do you? I'm always looking to try new recipes.
Olliebeak - I love charity shops for cookbook finds. I have found some amazing ones in our local shop for a quid or two - older ones with traditional recipes in. I love food history!
Ladyhawk - I've always wanted to make my own mincemeat for mince pies and whatnot for Christmas but have never managed to do it yet. Is it easy to do?
Jaxx - I agree, the rock cake tray bake sounds fab and echo the recipe request please.
CCP - We have our heating on after DH had flu and it hasn't gone off yet either. (Well, it's on timer, but you know what I mean). Sometimes you just have to.
Caterina - Nice photo.I really like the hair and the pinny.
KB xxTrying for daily wins, and a little security in an insecure world.0 -
Hi, thank you all for the compliments about hair and pinny (I have to admit, that is a rare photo that shows me well, I usually look like the bride of Frankenstein in photos!).
Here are my pleasures for yesterday:
1 - Received the Approved Food parcel
2 - Breakfast of egg and (Approved Food) baked beans with the rest of the family.
3 - DH and I went to the allotment and did quite a lot of work, now the garlic, onion and broad beans are in the ground and hopefully we will have a nice early crop next year.
4 - Harvested the last rhubarb and borlotti beans, enough to make us a few meals.
5 - Dinner and Trivial Pursuits evening with DH, DD, her BF and another of her friends. We had two teams (DH and I vs DD and friends) and we THRASHED them YEAH! We all had a lot of fun and decided to do this again.
I am about to take a trip to the coast, not sure whether Whitstable, Bexhill, Hastings or what, depending on where it takes the least time and the most direct journey.
Have a good day everybody, will be back to post my pleasures for today xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
