    Evening all,

Hope you are all doing well.

I've had a MUCH better day today after a good night sleep last night. Still had a lot of strange dreams but at least I didn't wake up.

    1) My friend not getting quite the all clear from the doctor but not getting bad news either. She has to go for more tests but at least the MRI and CAT scan didn't show any cancer.

    2) Then my Mum texting to say that she has had the all clear from the surgeon. She is still going to have the lump out next week. phew!

    3) No senior management around in the office so it was a fairly relaxed atmosphere.

    4) Left work on time! Woohoo!!

    5) It's the weekend!

    Night all

  • For today and yesterday

1 A friend came round for lunch. We hadn't seen each other for a while. It was nice to catch up.

2 She gave me a big bag each of apples and quinces and wouldn't take anything for them.

3 Did some baking yesterday and was pleased with the results.

4 Sorted out a big pile of paperwork today, and finally sent off all this year's medical bills and prescriptions to the insurance company.I've been putting it off for ages. They owe me loads of money!

5 I bought some angora mix over-knee socks from H&M for myself,my Mum,my sister and a friend (Christmas presents).I'm wearing a pair just now,my feet and legs are toasty warm. They had a similar style last year,so I've been on the look-out.They're reasonably priced and well worth it.

sparrer that's such a shame that your friend's family won't respect his wishes.Sending you a ((hug)).

    Have a good weekend x

Sparrer, I am new to this thread and dont know your story but I really felt the emotion in that post. Your friend was obviously a very special person and thoughtful enough to know what you would cherish. His relatives can only be described as thoughtless. Death brings out some real character traits in some people and not always the best side of them. I hope that you can still remember some of those quotes and notes that you wrote in the book and that they bring you peace. Why not try writing a letter to the relatives explaining how much the notebook means to you. It may be that the insurance companies letter was so formal that they have misunderstood the depth of friendship you had. They obviously are unaware but that does not make it right.

My pleasures today - not 5 but all very special
    1. walking in the forest in the rain with my Great Dane
    2. Spending the last working day with my colleague and seeing how excited he is and how loved he is from all of the people in the office he was based in
    3. talking to my OH on the phone at an unexpected moment.
Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher

does my bum look big in this sig?
  • Ladyhawk - that's great news about your Mum.

Here are my five for today:

    1) Another sunny day outside.
    2) Making bread rolls with DS1. He was in a horrendous pre-teenage stroppy mood today but forgot all his woes while we made the bread together and it was a relief that we shared some lightness today!
    3) Reading about Polar Bears with DS2. At 7 he's still a cutie and hardly ever gets in a bad mood! His enthusiasm for nature always really cheers me up.
    4) Last night's SC gammon in cherry coke leftovers was turned into a delicious lentil and gammon broth with DS's homemade rolls for tea.
    5) A lovely phone chat with my mum. She's at retiring age next year but after years of working with the NHS her pension isn't quite as good as she understood it to be. I don't quite understand all the ins and outs of the situation but I do know that she's feeling very vulnerable, alone and anxious at the moment and that makes me so sad. But it's always a pleasure to talk to her.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

  • 1) First aid training at work today. It was nice to do something different with some of my colleagues.
    2) Big tin of chocolates on the coffee table from someone who had left.
    3) Took a very scrappy lunch into work and found out that one of the SMT was doing us all a baked potato, chilli, cheese and salad. There was even sour cream to go on top of the chilli.
    4) Free bag of potatoes as he had overcatered. Had to cut some of them in half for tea.
    5) Managed to knit a baby hat over the last two days. This will not be such an achievement for some of you but I was pleased with my first baby hat. Added a pompom and am going to send it to a friend who has just produced No. 2. I may even start work on my jumper. I was given two batches of wool a while back and still haven't managed to do anything with them.

Hugs to all, especially Sparrer. I can't believe anyone would be so petty. Let's hope they have a change of heart.

My heartfelt thanks for all your kind words. I'm not managing myself too well but I know there is so much to be thankful for, the time we had being the most important. Ollie I have B's photo beside my bed and on the laptop, so can 'speak' to him which is a comfort.

welcome pixie , now we have Canadian, Aussie and Italian ladies among us - we're getting truly international :D
villagelife you painted a lovely picture of the mist on the river, but oh dear, scrumping - naughty! I would too if the trees were low enough ;)
Blimus I think you did the right thing, as you say it was your sisters wish, and although you felt uncomfortable with it, it was her choice, her bf, her feelings that mattered at that time
Caterina you're right, although I don't wish them any malice (well, not too much :o) they'll get theirs. I think you're amazing, all breakfast cooking, shirt ironing wives shoud be SaHW's, but only if they have a purple fringe :D
grateful I envy you the log fire, some folks think they're a bother to do but I think they're well worth the time and effort
woggle I empathise about the cold air, it's not a good time for us. I did ten minutes in the garden this morning, well wrapped up but still had to go in and use the neb . I don't tolerate illness and always end up overdoing things. So pleased you're home again, hope you don't have to go back in for a long time :)
Ladyhawk wonderful news all round, what a huge relief for you esp about your Mum. Pleased you slept better, I'm sure you will tonight too now you know things aren't as black as they seemed
marmite well done on sorting out the med bills, it'd be a nice windfall if you get the payment before Christmas.
cherisong thank you :), when I can put my thoughts and words in order a little more calmly I'll be writing to the rel via the ins co as I don't have a direct address. The walk in the rain sounds lovely, even more so in the company of your dog
carrie well done on earning a little extra by helping your OH. Have a good weekend, time away from work and with the family, lovely :j
Blimus well done on calming DS1 down, bread baking is very soothing. I do hope your Mum doesn't worry too much, I was in a similar position but the forecasts aren't always right and things worked out better than expected when it came to actually receiving the pension.
Patchwork congrats on the free lunch, and on the baby hat. I think that's really a great achievement, I can only knit straight lines!

    1. The sun shone. The washing didn't dry completely but smells lovely and fresh
    2. Managed a bit of gardening, prepped an area for the garlic
    3. Kefi pased the MoT with only a rear light bulb needed
    4. Made enough dog food (chicken and rice, and dog biscuits) for 3 weeks. It's working out much cheaper than all the tinned/packet stuff he was having before
    5. Didn't need the heating on...still holding out

(((Hugs))) to everyone who needs or wants one. Night night, sweet dreams

Evening all - can't believe how late it's got without me noticing .

villagelife - love the sound of your walk with the dog :).
Caterina - shame about your grape jelly :( - but wtg on getting your hair done :j - wtg on the purple fringe. Any photos?
grateful - hope you enjoy your half-term break :T - my sister is soooo looking forward to hers as well. She's also looking forward to the birth of her first dgk which is now 12 days overdue !!!
wogglemaker - hope the dressings do the trick for you legs.
Ladyhawk - good news about your mum and your friend - fingers crossed for the rest of your friends tests.
marmite - wtg on sorting all your paperwork and getting your medical expenses sorted out :T.
cherisong - hello  - it's the simple quality of our pleasures that count NOT the number of them - a lovely walk with your dog, seeing how a colleague is appreciated and a surprised chat with the person you love all sound wonderful to me :j.
carrie - lol at your bedtime routine with your kids - sounds just like life in my dd's house :rotfl:. Took 2 of us last Sunday to hold a 9yr old boy still to have his hair washed AND he had to wear his baby sister's 'headguard' while holding a flannel tight to his eyes. It was like bathing an octopus - arms and legs everywhere!!!
Blimus - Hi hun - I'm about the same age as your mum and know how she feels about her pension - we could be in similar schemes (mines a local government one). In the past there's been an annual forecast of the amount we should receive - I did notice on this years sheet that there was no mention of any final projected sum. That's scarey ! Fingers crossed for her (and myself).
Patchwork - great lunch in work . Wd on finishing your knitting :T.
sparrer - wow home-made dog food - wtg you :T and wd on getting some gardening done while the weather was good enough.

    Mine for Friday:

    1. Very busy day, so it went quickly :j.

    2. Unexpected visit from ds2 with dgs3 (Bouncing-Billy-Blue-Eyes age 2). He was taking him to the park and asked was I able to go with them for an hour. Unfortunately NOT as I was so busy, but it was lovely to see them both. They had something to eat and went on their merry way.

    3. Delicious HM Tomato and Veg Soup for evening meal with the Mini Soda Breads that I'd defrosted .

    4. Managed to get a lot more of my shawl done - still trying to beat this baby :rotfl:.

    5. Lovely phone call from dd - for once in her life she's having a 'child-free' evening as they're all with their dads this week. Last weekend they were taken for a visit but had to be brought back again due to vomitting. It's also dgd2's birthday on Sunday (will be 3) so dd is spending the evening planning party food and games for littlies.

That last one is such a big step forward for her - this time last year, she was heading for 'meltdown' and couldn't plan anything. She's made such a great improvement, but still has a long way to go.

I'm going to get off as I'm absolutely shattered and need my bed tonight.

(((((big hugs))))) for all who need them - speak again tomorrow - love Ollie xxx

Here are my five pleasures for yesterday:

    1. Getting home from work at the end of the week. Always a pleasure.
    2. Tidying up the kitchen. Seeing it looking clean makes me happy.
    3. A feeling of accomplishment of getting a lot done at work.
    4. The sunshine at lunchtime when I walked around the market was beautiful. I've never seen a bluer sky that shone with a kind of luminosity you see in photos. It clouded over very quickly though, and when colleagues got back from lunch at 2pm it was overcast. A shame.
    5. A simple tea, that made simply lots of leftovers. That's my lunch sorted. ;)

Things are still a little unsettled from the bad news we had earlier this week. I don't think things will return to normal for a long time, but there are signs of normality beginning to emerge. I can't find any sort of enthusiasm for crafting at all at the moment. It's a shame as I really want to get into a big cross stitch project or making Christmas decorations again but cannot find the motivation. I'm going to have a big baking day tomorrow though which will help return my OSy balance, I think. I'll make Cornish Pasties and a batch of fruited scones. Perhaps a few fairy cakes too to fill up the gaps in the oven - chocolate chip by preference.

    Have a good day, everyone.
