    Good Evening all

molly - cheers for the link to the 'chelly' lol - sounds like good stuff. I've got a couple of people in mind for a pot for Xmas. One of my sisters is a real foodie and loves something different :D. Hope your arthritis calms down soon and also fingers crossed for a comp win for you :j.
Caterina - that reduced wine sore throat remedy sounds as though it would be worth a try - have already made a note of it for future reference ;). Enjoy your day at the hairdressers - my mobile hairdresser is coming this weekend to sort my grey out - even my dgk's have passed comment!!!
Frith - Fingers crossed for your washing machine to get sorted on Monday.
Ladyhawk - hope all goes well for your Mum and your friend - maybe that's part of the stress that's getting to you at the moment. Have you tried something Lavender frangranced in the bedroom and some Camomile Tea before bed? ((((HUGS))))
Blimus - I had a bowl of that Carrot&Butterbean Soup at lunch and it was delish - but I know that I like it (wouldn't make it otherwise ;)). Hope it's to your taste as well. Sorry to hear you were trapped in your home by BT today, but what a great way that you and your family dealt with your enforced 'lockdown'.
grateful - I'm sure we can all guess how you'll spend part of the Half-Term Break - bet you're just itching to get through your books :D.
beachbaby - so pleased that your problems were mostly down to your No.1 :j. Enjoy your trip to Blackpool - I was there last summer, but it wasn't an Illuminations Trip - not seen those for about 10yrs. Then again, they hadn't changed much since the time before that :rotfl:. I'm sure your girls will enjoy their time in Blackpool - kids paradise!!!
Tealady - wtg on your 8ml power walk - brilliant stuff :T.

    Mine for today:

    1. Managed to get an early start, so I wasn't meeting myself coming back for the remainder of the day. Had an e-mail from bosslady for a 'very sudden' Team Brief Meeting to follow up on a Staff Briefing that we all received yesterday. Basically, she was able to promise us that OUR jobs are safe for at least 2-3yrs - unfortunately she isn't so certain about her own and will find out in 2wks time if she's being laid off. The organisation reckons that 1 in 6 jobs will go, but they're looking to do some of those through 'natural wastage' by not filling posts as they become vacant through people leaving/retiring. I'm so lucky that I've been told my earliest retirement date is July 2012, so I'll continue for as long as I can to build my pension a little more.

    2. Toasted Panini with Rhubarb Conserve for breakfast - very delish!

    3. A steaming bowl of my Carrot&Butterbean Soup for lunch - though I say it myself, it's one of my more successful soups :j.

    4. Had Savoury Mince simmering away all day in the SC - minced beef, chopped onion, a leek, pre-soaked soup/broth mix, tin of SmartPrice carrots that were lurking at the back of the cupboard, pack of whoopsied dried veg (damaged box - 18p), out of date pack of 'Beef in Ale Seasoning Mix' to thicken, beef and veg stock cubes, mixed herbs. Served up with Mash and cabbage.

    5. Managed to get to the left-over Savoury Mince before OH realised there was any left ;). Large container that will do both of us for another meal PLUS a smaller container that will do one of us OR both of us as a jacket potato topping - now both in freezer :j.

    6. Hope nobody is too squeamish but I do need to celebrate this next one - DD has reported that none of them have 'had the itchies' since last weekend when we doused everybody with Hedrin. Another 'good going over' scheduled for this weekend. It cost a small fortune to do it all properly - even with my whoopsied Hedrin bargains last Saturday - but it's worth it. The GP had given my daughter ONE BOTTLE of Lyclear Creme Rinse to do a family of five - three of them females with very long, thick hair .

    7. Have taken out a large container of Veg and Tomato Soup for tomorrow's evening meal - got some Paul Rankin Mini Irish Soda Breads (whoopsied to 21p!) to go with it.

    8. Accidentally discovered Autumn Watch was on this evening. What a delightful programme :j.

That's me done for this evening - time I was heading for bed. Hope everybody who's unwell/stressed is feeling better tomorrow and the weekend. ((((Hugs)))) all round - love Ollie xxx

Not a brilliant couple of days but sometimes it just goes like that. Had a phone call from the insurance company, my dear, lovely B had apparently asked the hospital in Beijing to be sure to send me something of absolutely no monetary value but which was very personal and precious to us. Unfortunately the item got packed with all his other belongings and sent back to Oz, where they were handed to a relative who had popped up out of nowhere. It makes me angry, they don't make contact for years yet come crawling out of the woodwork at the slightest sniff of a will . (Ollie will bear me out on that one). The insurance lady explained to the rel and asked for the item, only to be told I wasn't anything to do with B so it wouldn't be sent. The eight years we spend visiting each other and our daily phone calls during his last few weeks count for nothing. I can replicate it, a little notebook we wrote quotations in and sent back and forth to each other over the years when we were apart, but he didn't hold it, and it won't be his handwriting...isn't that silly?

Tomorrow the sun will shine and it will all look better. My disappointment is gut-wrenching at the moment but nothing compared to the troubles so many people have so my apologies for the long 'poor me'...

I do hope everbody who feels poorly, or has problems, feels better and has sunshine tomorrow

    Night night, sweet dreams

Sparrer - that is just awful. I am so sorry that this greedy "relative" is being so selfish. What is they point in their wanting it? ((hug))
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Just a quick 'pop in' from me this morning. Had a good night's sleep - perhaps the relief after yesterday's meeting and the reassurance. Hope my 'bosslady' slept OK - she hasn't been in her job for very long :undecided:.

sparrer - well hun what can I say about those rellies - phrase 'greedy vultures' springs to mind - but this one is just so petty of them. If they had truly known him properly, they would have been aware of you and the support you've given him in the past few years. I really hope that they consider more fully and have a change of heart. In the meantime, remember your friendship with the deep affection that you had for each other and try not to let their actions bring bitterness into your memories. Do you have a decent photo of him that you could put into a nice frame and display close to your favourite armchair? ((((((special hugs for you)))))).
pixie1 - welcome to the thread. wd on finding time for brekkie - have you tried doing your porridge in the microwave? Put it in while you're washing/showering. That way, you can perhaps still manage a bowl on the days that you DO have to commute - OR make it and take it to work in sealed container to warm up once you get there.
    Ladyhawk - hear hear!!!

I'll be back in again later in the day - all have a brilliant OS day - hope it brightens up a bit - doesn't look so good out there so far - brrrrrrr - love Ollie xxx

Sparrer - that is terrible as you are the one who will value it.
Blimus - we had the gammon in cherry coke the other night and its lovely

    My five are
    1. coffee and a chat with a friend after a tough meeting at work.

    2. Taking lunch to work and so not need to buy anything.

    3. Seeing the mist over the river and the trees above it while walking the dog.

4 Still managing to scrump apples and pears.

5, Going to pub for a drink and DH didn't buy crisps and we managed to sit by the fire. Lovely.
  • sparrer - just wanted to send you a hug (()). That's terrible news about your friends relatives and totally understandable that you are upset. To completely go against someone's wishes like that is totally immoral

When my sister was dying there were a couple of her wishes that some of the family felt uncomfortable about (namely her bf who we had problems with) but they were her dying wishes and we would've (and did) follow them through regardless of our own personal opinions.
The unjustice of it will smart for a while but at least you always did the right thing and that over rides everything.

    Hi all

Sparrer - how horrrible for you to be at the receiving end of so much malice and greed, after all you have done (and suffered) for your poor friend! There is not much I can add to what others have said, other than send you a heartfelt lot of (((HUGS))). And also the reminder that: "what goes arounds comes around" and that the nasty rel. will get his or her comeuppance in due course.

    Welcome to Pixie1!

Ollie, let me know how you get along with the cooked wine, I still have to try it but plan to do so fairly soon (cold or no cold hehe)!

Right, here are my pleasures for the day:

1 - First thing in the morning, down to the kitchen early to make DH his breakfast (I am really trying to persuade him that I should be a Stay-at-Home-Wife so I don't feel guilty when - if? when? - I leave my job - ongoing doubts still bothering me!). He was grateful and appreciative.

2 - Also made breakfast for DS and his friend who stayed over last night. I love looking after my family and their friends, it comes much more natural than booking conference venues, dealing with strange people etc... *sigh*

3 - Tried to make grape jelly with the grapes that my friend brought me yesterday. I made a caramel sticky mess (inedible) but had fun in the process - and am going to give the grape water, skins and pips to another friend who needs them to make a starter for sourdough bread.

4 - Also managed to iron my skirt, jeans and 3 of DH shirts (still trying to show him how much better off he would be, in kind if not in money, if I was a S-a-H-W - see no.1)

5 - The best, best, best pleasure of all today: I went as a model to my old hairdresser and had my roots tinted, plus my fringe dyed purple - I LOVE IT!!!!

Have a good day everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Ollie I have read them all, took me about three days for all of them I enjoyed them so much.

    1. Half term
    2. Cheeky doughnut in staffroom at break
    3. People at work kindly asking after DDs
    4. Saw an ex-colleague back for a visit.
    5. Roaring fire!
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x
