5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Had a bit of bad news to start the day with, so it hasn't been a great day here. However, I will find some good points, so here goes:
1. A colleague's birthday, so she brought in cakes and doughnuts. One was a gorgeous three-layer chocolate cake made by a co-worker, topped with chocolate cream and covered in Matchmakers and truffles. Mmm
2. My pilates is starting to pay off as I'm sitting straighter in my chair at work.
3. Going to Mr M at lunch and finding a food flask for £5.
4. The first cup of tea of the day.
5. Having a shedload of ideas regarding Halloween food for an upcoming party, such as chicken wings pinned together at the top to make "frog's legs" and cooking pork ribs in a special sauce to make "icky sticky ribs"
Hope everyone has a good evening.

Evening
Caterina / Frith - Glad to hear you are both feeling better
Pleasures for today:
1. Lovely free red Nail varnish in the post from Mr.T plus my friend at work got one that I had ordered for her
2. NSD - I did buy a cup of tea at the station but can claim that back on expenses
3. Managing to avoid the worst of the rain showers coming home tonight so didn't get totally soaked.
4. Enjoying the fruits of my batch cooking yesterday and having chicken curry for dinner which just needed heating up and some rice cooking followed by bakewell tart.
5. Listening to DD and OH being silly
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening all,
Another long day in the office - I had planned on leaving at 5pm but found myself tapping out an email at 8.20pm!! Grr... tomorrow will be better!
1) It's official (finally - only 4 months since it was agreed) I have been promoted and now at last the entire team know. It's been really frustrating as I haven't been allowed to tell anyone until now.
2) Some genuinely lovely congratulations from some of my colleagues.
3) Tea and cake mid morning and an opportunity for a gossip
4) Chatted to my mum at lunch time on the phone after her MRI scan. She sounded chipper and will get her results back on Friday.
5) Was up early after having a very strange dream which gave me the opportunity to dye my grey away... phew! It was getting baaaaaaad!
6) Enjoying my guilty pleasure trash TV - Don't Tell The Bride... hilarious!
7) NSD
8) Spoke to my IFA re my mortgage and it sounds like he has come good ideas for me and my plans for the future.
Night all... sleep tight.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
1) Easy journey to work this morning but then I worried that perhaps fewer people are going through town generally.
2) A favourable comment about my tights - I have swapped to patterned tights because they seem to last longer and I suppose they do look quite nice with a plain black suit.
3) Cup of tea and a chat with my friend after work. She sent me home with two peppers from the plants in her conservatory.
4) DD cooked this evening so all I had to do was heat something up when I came in.
5) Being lent the latest book for our church Sci Fi and Fantasy book club instead of having to buy it.0 -
Hi all, I really need to get back in the habit of doing this again, I hope you are all well.
1- a lovely meal of pasta, flash fried chard with garlic and chilli and topped with parmesan
2 - feeding the ducks in my local park
3 - getting to grips with my patchwork curtains (made from fabric remnants)
4 - eating some free chocolates (from a hotel bought home by the other half from one of his worktrips)
5 - winning some boots I love from ebay - not exactly old style but they are £90 new and I've got them for £20 delivered:beer:0 -
Ollie the carrot and butterbean soup sounds really delish, and very nourishing. Re the tip men, I didn't play helpless (I've lived without a man and managed quite happily for the past 9 years
) it's just that they're a lot more helpful than some places I've read about.
fairylittle many congrats to your DS for his well deserved achievement :T. Your apple tree sounds lovely, I got a whole 18 off my espalier this year. Mind you it is its first full year so I can't complain
frugalastic free is best! And leftovers are yummy, my fav sort of food cos it means no waste - or waist
Frith so pleased to see you posting and excellent news that you're almost back to normal. Wow, you have a Church organ you can play when you want, that's really special
Caterina the breakfast sounds so good! I'd never thought of spring onons with scramble, funny how we tend to stick to the tried and tested when a little imagination brings all sorts of tasty surprises
marmite cats do look funny when they do the hunch down and wiggle bum thing when they see a bird. My girl is quite a catcher but my boy always give the game away as he mews with excitement. Of which I'm extremely pleased, I must add
parsonswife I admire anyone who shops on line. I tried once but kept adding things to the basket and by the checkout I'd 'spent' more than double my usual bill so it's back to traipsing round hunting out bargains. Well done on the savings, and the free lunch
Kitchenbunny that chocolate cake sounds heavenly. I so agree about the first cup of tea, it has to be the best part of the morning. Hope things look up for you
Tealady One of the very nicest sounds is a family having fun together. Reheated curry always tastes better, I think, as the flavours have time to mingle
Ladyhawk so pleased to hear your Mum sounds bright. Hope all is well and the results are what you ant to hear on Friday. Excellent news about the promotion :T:T:T You've put in some long hours, and deserve no less
Rainy how clever are you, making patchwork curtains..I wouldn't have the patience. You do know free chocs are free of cals too, don't you?
. Congrats on winning the boots and a great price, I really must pop over there and look for some too, haven't had a 'new' pair for 3 years
1. Beautiful sunshine to wake up to, and quite warm for most of the day so still no heating on yet
2. A rasher of home cured local bacon and a f r egg for breakfast on a slice of hm toasted bread. Costwise very little more than a bowl of cereal and milk, much more filling and warming.
3. Postie bought me another nail varnish, I think there's been a mistake as I already received one but it's a different colour so they're in the Christmas pressie box
4. Went to Mr A and picked up some ys bargains, 17 items for £5.78. I couldn't get a pea in the freezer if I tried now
5. Hearing that a friends cat has been found safe and reasonably well after 5 days. She was shut in a garage apparently, the car owner seldom uses his car and the poor thing wasn't able to find a way out. Not OS but excellent news.
Night night, sleep tight

Morning all :hello: - flipping heck there was a sprinkling of frost on the grass this morning and the lid on the bin needed a bit of a tug to open it - brrrr
fairylittle - well done on posting on here :T - great going with your apple tree - lol at the 'no room for a pea in the freezer' :rotfl:.
frugalistic - greetings to Canada- love those coffee loyalty cards too
. I have three McD's ones in my purse at the moment
.
Frith - rotten luck about the penicillin allergy - but great that it's now been diagnosed :j.
Caterina - Love hearing about your DD and DS - often wish that mine were around the house more than they are. Enjoy them while they're still finishing off their 'growing up stage'.
marmite - lol at Kira and her quivering with hope - seen that so many times with my dear, departed Tiggy-tiger.
parsonswife - :T on getting your BP down - working on mine at the moment, so know how good that makes you feel.
Kitchenbunny - birthday celebrations in work  - one of the things that you miss when you work from home as I do. Great Halloween food ideas :T.
Tealady - wtg on the NSD - have this one on me :coffee:!
Ladyhawk - wd on finally having your promotion made official and recognised by the rest of your Team :j. :shhh: - don't mention the grey
Patchwork - how lovely to have your DD around to cook your evening meal.
RainyWednesday - wtg on the free choccies - all the nicer for being freebies
sparrer - awww and here was me thinking you'd mastered 'The Art of Helpless Female' - and could give me some hints/tips. At 5'-10" - and built like the proverbial b..... - men never seem to feel the need to offer me their assistance. Great news about your friend's cat - they frighten you so much when they disappear like that.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Rushed start to the day for 'Mental Health Awareness' Training. Four workshop sessions - 'Self-harm', 'Alzheimer's', 'Dual Diagnosis' and 'Suicide Awareness/Prevention' - obviously all only taster sessions with offer of further training. You can tell there's lots of 'business cuts' going on. In the past, this would have taken place over an entire day, with coffee/biscuits and a freebie lunch thrown in. As it was, we got coffee on arrival and again at 11.00am. By the time we finished at 1.00pm we were all starving so went for a subsidised lunch at the venue - I had triple cheese panini with salad. Ooooh we did get taxi-transport laid on for the journey.
2. Got to meet two new tenants for a chat in the afternoon - lovely people who want to get involved with our local Pensioners Forum.
3. Managed to catch up on some paperwork and record keeping in the afternoon as well - brownie points required for that one.
4. Found three large potatoes and did them in their jackets for evening meal - 2 for OH and 1 for me - served with left-over Sweet Chilli Turkey from the freezer.
5. Managed to get on with the shawl for the baby that is now overdue - knit faster, Ollie, knit faster!
that's me done for now - will pop back in again later - love Ollie xx
Hope all with germs/bugs etc are feeling better today ((((HUGS))))0 -
5 for yesterday (Tuesday).
1) Went into town and did the charity shops. Not much in but I did get a book.
2) Went to Sainsburys so feel a bit more organised now.
3) Made a crumble.
4) Played Lego with the boys for a while.
5) MrN called round. :-)0 -
We've had a rash of problems since we got back from Yorkshire so I need to restore the equilibrium by finding five pleasures from yesterday:
1) A very low spend day - just bought some kindling in anticipation of the colder evenings.
2) Kindest neighbour in the world is sorting out our many water and washing machine problems. Immersion heater element now ordered for under £20! The man is a life saver.
3) A 2 hour power cut in the evening whilst my game pie was in the oven was certainly not a pleasure - but we had got a lovely fire going and in the end it was a cosy and enjoyable two hours spent talking with the boys and playing chess.
4) We finally had the game pie really late in the evening. I made the pastry (usually buy ready made) and was pleased at how easy it was and how tasty it turned out. That's another thing I will do from scratch from now on.
5) Electricity came back on before bedtime so I could turn the new electric blanket on. Mmmmm cosy!
Hugs to anyone who needs them on this grey day.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Morning all,
I haven't been here in ages, so I hope that everyone is well, and best wishes if not.
Here are a quick 5 for me for yesterday:
- DD went out with the in-laws for the day and was thoroughly worn out by the time she got home.
- Got 3 loads of washing done and dried (OK, mostly in the Tumble Dryer as it started raining as soon as I put a line of washing outside )
- Sewed a button back onto a pair of DHs favourite shorts, looks good as new again.
- Made a batch of Chilli Jam (4 large jars) with some lovely chillis donated by a friend of a friend.
- Catching up with loads of recorded TV - Downton Abbey, Nigella, Masterchef etc. with my feet up.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
