Just to let you all know I'm still not able to thank anyone, the button is there but when I press it I just get an empty bar below your posts. No idea why :(. As soon as it starts behaving again I'll fill in the blanks in your thanks bars, promise :o

(((Hugs))) to all the poorlies, and anyone who just wants one, of course.

Welcome to the newbies , looking forward to getting to know you and read all your 5's. Waffle is never boring ott09 ;) I do it all the time and I live on my own! Sorry you don't like your job carrie, it must make the time you spend with your DC all the more precious. Poor DD grateful, that's a heck of a temp. Pleased she's recovering now

    1. Ollie, of course! So pleased to see you back and know you're okay :)
    2. An early start, got the bedding on the line by 8am
    3. The usual meeting with friends at lunchtime, took the new recipe cake, everyone wanted to know the recipe. I told them to look on MSE for it ;)
    4. Had to chase my dog as he escaped through the side gate (my fault of course, I was loading the car with things to take to the tip tomorrow), caught him 4 doors along where to my surprise there's not only a car the same as mine parked outside, but also an MSE 'We Don't Buy At The Door' sign in the window. Sensible people, I must get to know them :D
    5. Listening to Leonard Cohen while I ate my dinner

    Night night, sweet dreams

  • Wow, lots of newcomers, welcome to all. Also, hello to Olliebeak.
I still can't get out of the habit of waking up at a ridiculous hour and then my mind starts ticking over so I can't get back to sleep. I have now decided to make this more productive and have recently got my ironing done by 7.30am and today my bathroom and downstairs loo have already been cleaned - one less job to do later!
Anyway, got caught up watching X factor last night so didn't post. Here are my five for yesterday,
    1. A few extra hours at work.
    2. My mum and dad taking me and my girls out for lunch.
    3. My brother and his girlfriend coming to visit and making us all laugh with daft jokes.
    4. Only having cheese on toast for tea because I was still stuffed from luchtime.
    5. A naughty one this (but please don't shout at me). DD1 not wanting to go to her dads overnight and stopping with me. (I did offer to drop her round later if she had changed her mind - she didn't).
My sore throat has got much better, must have been the brandy. Here's hoping for a good day for everyone.
    Best wishes to all. X
  • Haven't caught up with the thread yet but it's great to see you again Ollie :j
Had a lovely week in the Yorkshire Dales so here are just a few of the many, many pleasures from last week:

    1) The cottage we stayed in, in Appletreewick, was perfect.
    2) The weather was amazing all week. Some fabulous autumn colours really highlighted the scenery for us.
    3) A Bolton Abbey circular walk from the priory ruins, along to the Valley of Desolation, The Strid and back round via the Cavendish Pavillion. Took some great pictures.
    4) Brimham Rocks - the boys favourite day trip - loads of 'Roger and the Rottentrolls' references.
    5) Malham Cove - so warm we walked in short sleeves. Then off to Hawes to the Wensleydale Creamery where we ate loads of cheese and bought loads more!
    6) A day trip to Lancashire to follow the Pendle Witch trail as DS1 has been reading lots of Joseph Delaney books and wanted to see where the inspiration came from. DH and both boys climbed to the top of Pendle Hill. I chickened out 3/4 of the way up as I suddenly had a bout of vertigo and felt very odd!
    7) My favourite walk of the week was a circular to Troller's Gill - we did consider 'nipping' up Simon's Seat too but legs wouldn't allow. We are from Norfolk after all - not used to hills! ;)

Will catch up with everyone's pleasures later but have to go into Norwich for lessons now.

Only 4 pleasures because I am still really ill. Even got hives on the tops of my feet now. Ear is AWFUL and kept me awake a great deal of last night so I am going back to bed in a minute. I have now had this ear infection for 16 days... Am getting thinner though because I can't open my mouth properly because of the pain so haven't been eating my usual quantities. :-(

    Frith, any news?

    Evening everyone!
Hope everyone's had a good day including all those who are under the weather.
It's gone sooo cold here! Hope the snow forecast is all wrong

    Today's pleasures
    1) A small weight loss at WW weigh in - only 1/4lb!! Well, every little helps, and if it wasn't for electronic scales I wouldn't have known I'd lost a teeny bit. Just 1/4lb away from my first half stone lost
    2) Lovely day out with friends - just bought a few inexpensive things I needed including a new toy for puddy tat (not needed, just liked it)
    3) Watching puddy tat play with said toy :D
    4) Lovely tea. Tried a veggie I haven't had before - sort of a cross between broccoli and cauliflower (called Romanesque cauliflower or broccoflower) Very delicious!!
    5) Enjoyed the nice tidy house (had a blitz yesterday ready for visitors :o )

Think we're all going to have to wrap up warm this week!

    Pam x
  • Evening all. Getting mine in now before I forget. Hope this message finds everyone safe and well (Frith??).
    1. Seeing a group (not sure of the correct term) of deer on the way to work this morning. They looked so beautiful.
    2. House clean and tidy and an empty washing basket.
    3. A good day at work and met up with two people I haven't seen in ages - had a good natter.
    4. Packed lunches already made for tomorrow.
    5. Eastenders then a shower.
Had a bit of a trying afternoon following a phone call from OH. He is now basically accusing me of trying to turn the girls against him because of DD1 not going there yesterday. I reminded him I had offered to drop her off later that evening if she changed her mind and it had been entirely her decision. I think it must have upset him and he is basically lashing out. That said, he brought this all upon himself.
Anyway, must think positive and musn't let this get me down (easier said than done!)
    Best wishes to all. X

    Hi all

Am still struggling with this horrid cough that is not wanting to leave me. Went to the doctor and she signed me off for another week, and gave me a prescription for an inhaler. I hate taking medicines (apart from my trusted herbs) but I am so desperate that I have been using it on two occasions, and it seems to work a bit. I shall take another puff tonight before going to sleep hoping that it works so I do not have to cough for an hour before I can lie down!

Anyway, here are some pleasures for today:

1 - After seeing the doctor I managed to drag myself to the library to get a book for DS and to the post office to send an important document that I had to send and hadn't done because of getting ill.

2 - Back home, the inhaler took off the worst of the wheezing, so I suppose it counts as a "pleasure", even if a bit peculiar.

3 - Bread and homemade quince jam and a cup of tea with DS, who complimented me on the jam.

4 - The two books I ordered from Amazon have arrived and I can't wait to start reading them!

5 - Dinner of pasta with mushrooms and salad (mostly) from the garden was loved by all.

Hope you all have a good night xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi everyone,

Pam - romanesco broccoli is really yummy!! I really must get some seeds for next year.

Sparrer - lol at your number 4... definitely sounds like you need to meet your neighbour

Another looong day at work 7.45am start and only left at 8.20pm with no lunch :( I'm sleeeepy!!

    1) I WON THE DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR!! Woohoo! :nana: Its nice to be recognised.

    2) I didn't win the sunflower challenge... but it was a bit of fun in the office

    3) Ate lots of cup cakes... I think it was 6 in total

    4) Yummy HM courgette lasagne for supper which only needed heating up

    5) Ok this is very vain... I felt I looked really good today. As some of you may remember I suffer from rosacea and I am on long term antibiotics for it. I had about 3 weeks break from the drugs recently which made me feel really miserable and really ugly... anyway am back on the drugs and am feeling so much happier (even with the dreaded cold sore that I have!)

    6) Monthly pricing meeting which I was convinced that I was going to be crucified in went really well. The big boss forgot her glasses at home so couldn't see all the details so didn't question me too closely.... phew! she is one intimidating lady who scares the bejeezus out of me!

    night night all...

    Sleep well

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
