Oh help! I've been clicking away on the thanks button but it's not showing that I'd thanked anyone :(, so THANK YOU everyone!

Welcome frugalastic :hello:, good to have you here with us from across the pond. This really is the best forum on the site and so friendly
Marmite I'll have to look out for the 'two-piece' duvets, they sound just right. It does get chilly on some summer nights so I've been using a throw with the sheet but I like the thought of a light duvet so thank you for the suggestion
Primrose it must have been amazing to see your garden visitor. I have the occasional hedgehog but the moglets frighten any feathered friends away :(
budgeteer it's lovely to hear how positive you are about your home, husband and heating :). It's really the simple things that bring pleasure isn't it. Ooops, I'm not suggesting your husband is simple!
Girly you've got to love Dave Lamb, he's beginning to be the highlight of my Saturday afternoons. (I really need to get out more ;))
Caterina I've looked at the Red Hats local website, called the Daft Old Bats. Sounds like they have a whale of a time! My only concern is spending time with over 55's when I'm used to being in a mixed group, from 20 upwards, which I think keeps me young. Mind you, I have been looking into sites that sell hats ;). Hope you soon feel better, I always think curry is a good meal to have when you're not feeling up to par
CCP good for you taking a day out, everyone should have some 'me' time occasionally I agree, well done Pompey :T.
beachbaby congrats on a decent passport photo, they're few and far between - I've never had a good one yet. Are you going somewhere exciting? Good that you're in credit with the gas, with winter quarter coming up. Today has been decidedly chilly here but I got by with a rug and the heat from the oven when I baked some cakes
Ladyhawk the moglets don't come in til about 1am, and then I often have to go out and carry them in as being feral they don't like being shut in. Once they're asleep though they do stay in their beds. Hope you feel better, have a good day with your DB and SiL

    2. no heating on

    4. Piers Morgans interview with Russell Watson
    5. I've got £20 left over from last weeks shopping budget of £25!

    night night, sweet dreams

Hello again everybody - it's absolutely ages since I've been on here, but it's so good to see that this thread in particular is still going strong :D. I'll spend time later on trying to catch up with what you've all been up to in the past couple of months.

To try to get back into the swing of things, I'd like to post five for yesterday:

    1. Got my computer and internet problems solved so back in action again :j - though still on the 'old comp'.
    2. Slow cooker of Scouse went on in the morning for evening meal.
    3. Trip to my favourite charity shop to donate some books, outgrown shoes/wellies belonging to dgks, and a mountain of carrier bags - result of decluttering.
    4. B&M Bargains for some Christmas Crackers - 12 Luxury gold ones for £3.99 and a Light-up Nativity Scene for £9.99 - missed out on the nativity scene last year, so pleased to get it this time.
    5. Trip to Asda for some bargains - two packs of Duracell Ultra batteries for £5.00 (£3.45 saving) :T; 3pks Pearl Barley - 35p each; Asda Sensitive Toothpaste 50p; 3 packs of Hedrin Once for £3.50 each instead of £6.81 (I'd paid £11+ for a 2btl pack the night before ) DD will be delighted as the kids are plagued at the moment :j.
    6. Babysitting 'Dylan the Villain' and 'Bouncing-Billy-Blue-Eyes' last night with baking session - did home-made cookies. Luckily Dylan slept till 9.00am and Billy till 9.15am - Narnie's little darlings !

Plans for today include visiting DD and the kids - armed with the Hedrin. Time to roll up the sleeves and get stuck in ............. here comes 'Nitty Norah the Bug Explorer' :rotfl:!

Still no heating on properly, though put it on for a short while last night as Billy and I were sleeping in the open-plan living room and it was rather cold.
  • Here are my five for today/yesterday:

    1. Getting the ironing finished. It's all pressed and put away, so that makes me happy.
    2. Meeting up with my friend yesterday, whom I haven't seen for ages. It was good to catch up.
    3. Making pastitsio. OK, so it wasn't a proper version, but it was nice. DH very pleased.
    4. Getting my mealplan sorted and knowing I don't really need to get much in for the week.
    5. Having a lay in. DH bringing me a cup of tea both mornings, too.

Not a lot going on here today. I'll be baking in a bit (rock buns) and could do with something easy and simple to go on the shelf above to make the most of the oven while it's on. Sweet & sour chicken with noodles for tea and hopefully a nice rest. It's lovely and sunny here so the curtains are open to warm the house while we can.

Hi Ollie, lovely to see you!
Sparrer - well done on the NSD and not having the heating on. DH has put the heating on a couple of times but it has been really cold.
frugalastic - I have to agree about the cup of tea. Bliss!
Ladyhawk - I have a sudoku programme but can't get past easy so well done. :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day xx

Ollie!!!! Welcome back. You've been missed!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Ollie, it is so good to see you! I was about to post a moany post with no pleasures but seeing you here really made my day so I shall make it my first pleasure! Welcome back!

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Having Ollie back among us, no doubt, is the best one of today!

2 - Because of still coughing like mad, I am staying in bed. Not the most striking of pleasures but at least I am getting some rest for a change.

3 - DH is so much better that he went out with DD to an exhibition.

4 - A friend of DS's who went to Spain for a few months is back, it is lovely to see him again.

5 - Started reading one of the books I got at the library yesterday and it is very good.

Have a good evening everybody x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Afternoon all.

Ollie - welcome back! It's lovely to see a post from you again, and to know you're doing OK.

frugalastic - welcome to the thread!

    My pleasures for today:

    1) A decent lie-in this morning, despite my puddy tat's best efforts to get me up early.

    2) Cleared away my tomato plants, and found another dozen or so tomatoes lurking amongst the dying leaves. :)

    3) Cleared the blocked plughole in the bathroom in true OS style, with bicarb, vinegar and boiling water.

    4) Chatting to my mum on the phone about an eldery gentleman she and my dad have befriended - they took him out for coffee yesterday, and my dad's apparently promised to take him to the pub for a beer next week. :)

    5) Popped into my local pub to see if there's a quiz on tonight - there is, and they've told me they've got my favourite ginger beer in stock, too. :j

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    Afternoon everyone!

I've been really productive today and feel very virtuous :D Mind you, a lot of it is to do with the fact I've got visitors tomorrow. I know they'd go mad with me if they realised I'd cleaned and tidied up for them - we've been friends for many years - but I just can't bring myself to let anyone know what an untidy beggar I am :o

    So, I have
    1) Dusted and hoovered lounge and hall
    2) Major tidying up blitzes in kitchen and bathroom (I do keep them clean, I just end up with bottles and jars everywhere and the place looks a mess
    3) Tidied up all my crafting stuff which was overtaking the lounge
    4) Had a good long play with puddy tat who was determined I should play catch. Yes, my cat is more dog-like and likes running after a ball or alternatively catching it
    5) Planned out a tasty WW dinner

( 1,2 and 3 very pleasurable because my untidy house has been driving me nuts!)

Hope everyone's ok today and that everyone with bugs is picking up and feeling better.

    Pam x
