As a complete newcomer to this, I hope that you don't mind me butting in.

I love reading how other people like me find the simple things in life the most satisfying ones. I've often felt like a bit of a 'geek' for doing so but is so good to know that there are loads of other 'geeks' (hope you don't mind me calling you that) out there too.

Finding work (as a primary school teacher) pretty stressful at the moment and its kind of taking my life over a bit so focusing on the simple pleasures will make sure I have some and that I try to do more of the things I love.

So for my pleasures today I have:

    1) A sunday indoors where I can snuggle on the sofa with my cat (not only a geek, also a mad cat woman.
    2) Sunday in all day means endless cups of tea whilst 'planning'.
    3) My guilty secret- watching Jeremy Kyle on ITV player- totally awful but so entertaining!
    4) NSD- mind you yesterday's spending kind of made up for it- I have lovely nails now though!
    5) Promise of chicken roast dinner later.

Oh my god, I struggled to limit it to 5- so many more. That has to be a good thing. Honestly I'm not a lazy sitting on sofa, telly watching layabout but treat myself when I can.

    Any other teachers out there?

    Thank you for listening xxx

    Evening

Welcome back Ollie so good to see you posting again.

Pleasures for the last couple of days:
    1. Big batch of twinks made yesterday morning some for home and some for the rainbow party (see 2)

    3. Sausage sandwiches for brunch yesterday
    4. 5 Mile power walk today, first training walk of many ready for the Moonwalk next year.

    Evening all,

Hope your Sunday has treated you well.

Glad to see so many new posters :hello:

    1) Having lunch with my DB ad SIL. We had butternut and pepper soup to start, followed courgette lasagne for my SIL and grilled lamb neck fillet with anya potatoes and veggies for DB and me. We had the last of the english strawberries with cream for pudding.

    2) Having a tidy flat for a change!

    3) Buying some flowers for myself

    4) Chatting to my mum on the phone. Her MRI is scheduled for Tuesday and surgery the following Wednesday. She sounds pretty up beat which is good to hear.

    5) Baking 50 cupcakes for my colleagues. We are having a tea party tomorrow in the office because it is the official measurement of the sunflowers that we have all grown for charity. Mine won't be the biggest unless I am the only person to remember to bring mine in!

    6) Finished another square for my blanket... only 3 more to go until I am half way there!!

Night night all... I have 50 cupcakes to ice before bed!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

wow, that is so amazing to see people replying to what feels like my boring waffle. Mind you, I find it addictive to read about what other people do in their everyday lives. Thank you so much for kind words so far. Tealady, great name btw, love love love Britains next top model- didn't know you could go see it live. Amazing.

After having been grateful for my pleasures, OH and I were discussing cash and debts-again and had depressing revelation of how much we are spending on interest. To put positive spin on it, has given me renewed focus. Being an 'active' member now of this site should help me focus, focus, focus. Bed soon, night night all xxx

Evening everybody - not long got back from DD's, so thought I would post before toddling off to bed.

Thank you all so much for the lovely welcome back. It's good to be here again and great to see all the usual faces still around AND lots of folks I've not 'met' before  to you all.

Kitchenbunny - you had me flummoxed for a minute there with 'pastistio' - had to 'go google'. Looks a bit like a layered pasta bake - is that right? I foresee lots of possible variations on a theme for that one .
Ladyhawk and Bobbykins -:wave: to you both!
Caterina - sorry to hear that you're full of bugs - hope they take their leave soon and let you get on in peace. AND I see you have a new job since I was last around - well done :T.
sparrer - to you too - thanks for keeping the place warm for me ;).
CCP - wtg on your hidden toms - a rare pleasure at this time of year. Hope you did well at your Quiz Evening.
frugalpam - so happy that I'm not the only one who has a quick blitz when visitors are due .
carrie - how devoted of you to use up that chocolate and cream that just HAD to be used - would have been sacrilege to have let it go to [STRIKE]waist[/STRIKE] - oops waste ;). Woman after my own heart, I can just tell on first meeting :T.
ott09 - hey, hun - welcome to the 'economy geek club' - you're certainly among good friends on here :). Another putty-tat lover AND a closet Jeremy Kyle fan to boot - you'll definitely fit in :j. I'm sure you'll find lots of hints/tips/ideas throughout the forums to help you with cope with your finances. Biggest tip is to make sure that you and OH are united on everything that you want to do. Men don't mind us making some cutbacks/savings as long as they can see some benefits :).
grateful - congrats on conquering the chaos :T and hope your DD1 is getting better.
Tealady - - wtg on your 5ml Power Walk - good for you and best of luck for next year's Moon Walk. Hope your DD enjoys her birthday treat.
Ladyhawk - Hope all goes well for you DM with the scan and surgery - enjoy your tea party tomorrow.
GirlySquare - :shhh: don't mention the word 'f*e*z*r*s' - naughty word in my house at the moment. I SHOULD run them down - but you know how it is ................ first one bargain and then another :rotfl:.
Primrose - rotten luck about your local library - hoping that ours continue with current provision. Good housebound service, mobile libraries AND 7 day opening. They've just started to upgrade the Family History Section as well. Bet the Council Tax go up next year ;).

    Mine for this evening:

    1. Lovely afternoon with DD and the dgk's - very 'productive' with my bargain Hedrin :rotfl: - all 'done and dusted' - ME included :j.
    2. Took a tub of my frozen Lamb Stew with dumplings for DD and dgk's - went down a treat .
    3. Found the knitting pattern that I lost last week - had left it at DD's and she managed to put it away safe before Caitlin got her little mitts on it. Now I can finish the shawl that I've started for my lovely niece's baby - now a week overdue lol.
    4. DD's b/f loved the posh cafetiere that I bought him for his birthday present. Not really posh, but he thought it too expensive when he looked at them last week - though I knew he really wanted one. Treated him to a bag of decent ground coffee to go with it AND a pint coffee mug. His caffeine level will be 'bouncing' tonight :rotfl: .
    5. Last but certainly not least - it feels really good to be back around 'old-style' again and especially '5 blessings a day'. Your welcomes have made my day.

love to all - Ollie xxx
  • Hello to a fellow newbie, geek, cat woman and educator ott09 :D

Good luck with your sunflower ladyhawk and feel free to send cupcakes this way if you have any left over!!

Here are my 5 for this weekend...

    - receiving three huge, fully lined curtains in gorgeous Sanderson linen, completely free as a friend of a friend was getting rid! They fit my hall window/front door perfectly and I haven't stopped raving about them for an entire 24 hours (much to my OH's dismay!).
    - a lovely Sunday morning drive over the river with OH. Got stuck in traffic for an hour but the sunshine was lovely and warm on my legs.
    - reduced veggies in Mr T, including a big punnet of blueberries for 30p which will be lovely with porridge in the morning.
    - a very happy and cuddly little kitty. She's seemed a bit 'off' for the last week or so, but I was woken by lots of purrs and nuzzles this morning and she's stayed curled up either on my knee or close by today. Currently asleep on the bed next to me!
    - ordering a bargain Mr Benn DVD to start off OH's 40th retro hamper...it's not until next August  but I figured I ought to buy things as I see them otherwise I'll regret it and have a last minute panic!
