Caterina good news re your DD enjoying uni this time, sounds like she's found a course which she's more comfortable with. Pleased you're feeling better
Tealady I've never thought of having a summer and winter duvet, I have to throw mine off in the summer and just use a sheet. I'll have to look into it for the Spring. Pleased your DM sounded brighter.
beachbaby I had a peek at the pics, what a beautiful boy. Hope you and DD feel better in the morning
CCP I wonder if your moglet was feral? My two were and the brother was dreadful, biting, scratching and hissing. The sister is much more of a lady but knows how to put him in his place. Lol at the synchronised penguins
. Re your 4, you're allowed to have a little smirk when someone obnoxious gets their come-uppance
Ladyhawk - oh, naughty! You should have put the heating on before as you're unwell. And good for you having laughter with your fish and chips, they say it's the best medicine
Pam pleased the headache has gone. Congrats on resisting hm fudge, that takes strength!
my 5
1. A lie-in til 8.45am...one day the furpets might let me stay in bed til 9am
2. nsd
3. An invite from a friend to join the Red Hats, a sort of social club for ladies over 55. It was nice of her to ask, though I'm not sure I really want to spend my time with women my age and older. (It makes me think of the blue-rinse brigade, and arthritis!) I'll have to think about that one
4. The moglets taking it in turns to sit on my lap this evening, so I didn't need to turn the heating on. I knew they had their uses
5. A long chat on the phone with DS this evening. He was feeling down when he phoned, I hope our chat put things into perspective for him.
night night, sweet dreams

Sparrer I've just read your remark about winter and summer duvets.Well I'd never heard of them until a few years ago when I'd gone to Ikea with a friend.
We were looking at the duvets, and she advised me to buy a winter one.The one that I have is basically two seperate duvets that you can 'fix' together with press studs which are spaced out round the edges, thus making a double duvet.Very cosy. When the winter weather is over you simply detach one duvet from the other, and voilà,you have a summer duvet!
I remember my friend saying that if you're too hot in bed,you can simply throw off the covers, but there's not a lot you can do if you're too cold!Wise words!
Anyway I bought mine at Ikea a few years ago now.I don't know if all winter duvets are similar to this double duvet style.
Trying to think of some OS Pleasures....
1 Washed the windows in no time at all.
2 Have just made a Yorkshire curd tart, using HM pastry (I first for me) and HM curds.Just had a piece,it's really good.
3 Listening to some Mozart symphonies these last few days (my 'hero').
4 Planning on a run today.
5 Am going to take the time to watch a film today,I'd really like to watch 'Some LIke It Hot',one of my favourites.
Have a good weekend x0 -
Last couple of days:
1. Visiting a friend who was widowed some months ago and catching up with her news.
2. Managed to complete another autumn task on my list - spreading the newly dug-out compost over
my vegetable bed and borders.
3. One of two more items decluttered and taken to the charity shop.
4. Getting through most of the day yesterday without the heating on.
5. Rare visit of a female pheasant in the garden. Enjoyed watching her.0 -
Have made time to post my five today
Despite cold symptoms, I remembered today how truly lucky I am to have a little warm house, a loving hubby and a quite secure part-time job.
Played my CD with wartime classics such as 'We'll meet again', while I pottered around doing a bit of cleaning.
Hubby's famous garlic and lemon roasted FR chicken and roasties in the oven (we eat early btw)
Having brought the Begonias in from the garden, they are in the window-sills and looking bright and cheerful.
Treated myself to a little tot of tawny port to 'nurse my cold'0 -
house elf considering that the other athletes are all at the top of their game, I always feel that the syncho swimmers always look like they could run rings around everyone else
Welcome HoneyBee and jackieglasgow
Caterina glad to hear you got through the visit without too much pain, if you want a rueful giggle then I suggest you google Calum Gilhooley the most boring man in Scotland, he may sound hauntingly familiar...
Frith poor you, I hope you're feeling much better soon
CCP enjoy your week off
1) bringing dp breakfast in bed this morning as he's now caught the dreaded lurgy. I'm still coughing, although the nausea has gone now. Hope everyone with the bug is feeling better now
2) having a lie-in with dp and dd
3) CDWM, listening to Dave Lamb's comments e.g. 'Wendy takes a break from cooking to allow time for more boasting...'; '...and isn't it time for your to tell us how wonderful it (Wendy's meal) is going to be?'
4) scrubbing the cooker shelves, must get some Oven Mate from Lakeland next time we're in Bath and give it a try
5) I have QI and HIGNFY to watch on Sky+"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Hi all
Get well beachbaby, sorry you are also down with the bug - I am starting feeling it MUST spread via the internet, so many of us are at one stage or the other of it. Get well soon!
CCP Tell me about the cough lingering, it is just not shaking off and I wonder how I shall manage to get back to work on Tuesday if I am still having these coughing fits! Glad you are better now, though, enjoy your week off!
Ladyhawk - I have read most of the Rebus books but not in order because I usually pick them up at the charity shops. The last one I read was a trilogy of the early years: Knots and Crosses, Hide and Seek and Tooth and Nail. Brilliant! I just picked up another one from the library today (cannot remember the name offhand, will let you know later - too lazy to go next door).
Sparrer, I just googled the Red Hats and they sound like really fun, much much more fun than the WI (of which I am an almost lapsed member - meaning I have the membership but won't bother renewing - just cannot be bothered with all the officialdom of it all!). I have emailed the London group asking for more info. Will let you know how it goes.
GirlySquare, thanks for the Calum Gilhooley tip, I have watched a few videos of him now, really funny and YES I confirm it is a familiar communication style! LOL. Re. the bug, sorry about your DP getting it, and hope he gets better soon!
Here are my pleasures for yesterday:
1 - Even still coughing, I managed to get out and meet a friend.
2 - We used the voucher to get tea at the M&S cafe (and also managed to get the loyalty card stamped, so I am one away from yet another freebie drink!).
3 - Coming back home with the craving for an Indian takeaway but instead making myself make a light veg curry, brown rice and dal at home, and everybody loving it - DH said it is better than a takeaway!
4 - Watching TV with DS after dinner.
5 - The company of our cats, they are so lovely and quietly affectionate.
Pleasures for today:
1 - As I was getting a scone mixture ready, discovered I did not have any baking powder and decided to turn them into pancakes instead - lovely, and loved by all!
2 - Outing with my friend to have a cup of tea and a chat.
3 - Got 3 DVDs in the library, as well as a few books so I am going to be entertained for a few days now.
4 - Lunch of leftover curry mix from last night.
5 - Treat of tea and almond biscuits from M&S (too many, but I suppose I am compensating for still feeling a bit under the weather).
Have a great evening everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all. Hope you're all having a nice Saturday.
marmite - at your Yorkshire curd tart. It's something I haven't had in years - probably since the last time I visited Yorkshire, actually, which must be at least 10 years ago. They're such lovely things I've never understood why they've never caught on 'down South'.
My pleasures for today:
1) Celebrated the first day of my week off by doing... nothing very much in particular.Ah well, I suppose it doesn't hurt occasionally!
2) Washed the kitchen floor, which has needed doing for ** days.
3) Lots of the green tomatoes I harvested last week are now red.
4) Listened to the Portsmouth FC match on the radio this afternoon - it's nice to have time to listen to an entire football match, and even nicer that we won. :j
5) Pork belly braised in cider for dinner. It smells delish - apparently to the moglet, as well - I've had to shut him outside as I can't take the pleading anymore. Animals just don't understand "it's not cooked yet".
Have a lovely evening, all, and I hope everyone with bugs gets rid of them soon.Back after a very long break!0 -
CCP, Sparrer & Caterina, thanks for the good wishes. I'm still feeling lousy but what a good excuse for another Brandy!
My five for today,
1. Having photographs taken for my new passport and them looking reasonable.
2. DD1's old school trousers fitting DD2 so no need to buy new ones.
3. DD2's Halloween costume sorted with a 99p face mask and an old cape from the cupboard.
4. Free hot chocolate and Lindt sample from Whittards.
5. Knowing I am well in credit with my gas supplier so am able to put the heating on without worrying too much.
Oh, and a 6th, A large chocolate donut waiting for me in the kitchen!
Best wishes to all on this chilly evening. X0 -
Evening all,
Sparrer - lucky you that your furpets let you lie in until 8.45am!
I think that I am on the mend - my cough seems a little better.
1) nice quiet day by myself just pottering around the flat by myself
2) NSD
3) Cleaned and tidied my lounge in preparation for my DB and SIL coming round for lunch tomorrow. I still haven't really decided what to make yet but at least the table is clear!
4) Completed a "genius" level of sudoku on my blackberry.
5) B&J Fairly Nutty ice cream - need I say more?
Sleep well everyone
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
