5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Comments

  • 1) Having my hair done and listening to my lovely hairdresser talking about "intuition fees".
    2) Coffee date with a friend and a nice chat.
    3) Finding some bright pink wool for my artistic friend who said she was drooling over someone's cerise shirt the other day. I feel a scarf coming on.
    4) My beekeeping friend at the allotment has now chopped most of the branches off the annoying conifers that are hiding the rusty trailer full of rotting fencing materials. And made a path out of bricks. And stacked up all the asbestos roofing in one corner. And made a nice neat row of the tools in the 'shed'. What a woman!
    5) DD's bf's Mum came for a cup of tea and stayed for chilli and rice. She tells me that she was going to give me a bottle back but instead she has washed it out and filled it with something interesting for my Christmas present. How intriguing!

Hugs to all those under the weather. Put your feet up. You deserve it!

Gingerjar well done on the quince tree find. A friend of mine has one behind her office and make the yummiest jam with them
Thanks for the reminder of VAT going up Primrose, I'll have to stock up on compost for my veg patio pots before then
parsonswife it sounds really cosy in your caravan. I keep a duvet under my bottom sheet too, it started off as just somewhere to store it but soon found out the benefit it gives in winter
I was up watching til the wee small hours too Pam, had I known you were I'd have put the kettle on for a cyber cuppa. I've seen man land on the moon, the first test tube baby (born on my birthday, not same year of course) but this was the most amazing show of humanity I'll ever experience. It's certainly put Chile on the map for all the right reasons
Weclome jackie, you certainly found the right place to help you find all those blessings we often forget about. Keep on posting, it's great therapy
Oh dear CCP, I do feel sorry for you having to perch on a stool to work (but confess your description did make me smile). Hope you have a super week off, perhaps try to teach that lovely moglet not to bite when he gets excited!
Congratulations on your new-found carpentry skills beachbaby, you've still got lots of achievements yet to discover and enjoy. My big pleasure was going out to buy a tool box and all the things I thought I might need to put in it...nine years on some are still unused, but I'm sure they'll come in handy one day!
Well done on the find Ladyhawk, you were quite justified in taking it rather than letting some city type with acreage in the home counties get his hands on it! Hope you sleep soundly and the cold isn't disturbing you
Lol at your hairdresser Patchwork, she could be right! Your lotty friend is going to make it the best allotment in the area, shouldn't be surprised if it takes a prize!

    1. Got a line of washing out by 8am. It was still wet when I gave up and took it in at midday but at least it didn't rain. The sun came out after I'd draped it over the radiators - of course
    2. nsd
    3. reached target to request a £15 voucher on a survey site
    4. postie brought me 2 boxes of tissues to trial
    5. The morning spent watching the miners, post-rescue, the afternoon spent taking up some trousers and general mending while I watched the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth games.

Wishing the poorlies better soon. Night night and sweet dreams

  • After what I said last night, I have woken up with a really sore throat this morning - cybergerms!
Oh, well, children get colds, men get flu, women get on with it!
    Have a good day. X

    Hi all

    A warm welcome to Jackieglasgow!

Sorry you both got the bug too, Ladyhawk and beachbaby, I am on the mend now but my DH is down with it. It seems to be doing the rounds at this time of the year. Hope you get better soon.

    My pleasures for yesterday:

1 - Feeling much better (even if the cough is still preventing me from going out, as I do not want to be seen to spread germs).

2 - Finished reading another Rebus novel (boy, that stuff is DARK!).

3 - DS gave me back in cash all the money I spent in advance buying him vinyl LPs online. This means I do not have to trek it to the bank this weekend. Good boy!

4 - DD seems to be enjoying her Uni and getting enthusiastic about the projects (I am still on tenterhooks for her after she dropped out so dramatically last years one week into the course.).

5 - DS, DH and I had a TV dinner (homemade) and watched the programme about the giant squid on C4 last night (I had difficulties in eating my cooked fruit pudding while watching the dissection of that creature). It was horrifying but also very interesting. BUt above all it was lovely to spend time with at least part of my family in our warm living room, with the woodstove on.

I shall come to post my pleasures for today later on. Have a great day everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi

    Pleasures for yesterday:
    1. Being able to work from home so could be there to collect a delivery of things ordered for DD birthday. I did think working from home would give me time to do a few household chores as well but the office had different ideas and kept me busy all day
    2. Walking DD to guides, nice to get some fresh air after being indoors all day
    3. Did a Reverbe and found a penny on the pavement
    4. Chat with Mum on the phone and she seems in a more positive mood at the moment than she has been which is good.
    5. Put the winter duvet on the bed so had a lovely snuggly warm bed last night but makes it sooo much harder to get out of in the morning.

Hugs to all who need them

    Hi Tealady,

I worked from home for some 7 years and only recently have changed to an office-based job (part-time for half the week only, thankfully). I am finding that I have lots more time for the house now that I spend a good 2 to 3 days per week out, than when I was at home doing less hours. I think it takes a lot of discipline to separate "home" from "work" when you are working home.

If you manage, though, I think there are a lot of advantage to working at home, the best one (IMHO) being No Commuting!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • My glands are officially swollen! Hope everyone else is feeling better today. Sparrer, I know what you mean about the tool box - i have done exactly the same. My five for today,
    1. Extra money in my envelope from the lady I iron for. She is away for the next two weeks but still insists on paying me.
    2. Soup with DD1 for lunch as she is off school sick. (Not entirely sure how genuine it is but she looks pretty pale).
    3. One that I forgot from yesterday. Emptypockets posting pictures of her gorgeous dogs for me on the pets board.
    4. No cleaning to do as I did it yesterday.
    5. I have now sorted all of my bills, driving licence, gym memebership etc into my new name, just the passport to do ready for when that millionaire comes to whisk me away somewhere nice and hot!
Best wishes to all. I see a medicinal brandy coming my way this evening. X

    Evening all.

beachbaby - I hope you and your DD get better very soon. Enjoy your dose of 'medicine'. ;)

Caterina - I'm glad you're feeling better - it sounds like you've got the same bug I had, as I also found the cough lingered after all the other symptoms had gone. I hope it goes away soon.

He's a rescue moglet, and was a nightmare when I first got him - he'd sink teeth and claws into me and refuse to let go (I once lifted him 6 inches off the floor trying to get him off me ). It took me nearly a year to teach him not to do that - I guess I can put up with the odd over-enthusiastic nibble in comparison!

and just for CCPimage.php?u=542445&dateline=1274857008image.php?u=542445&dateline=1274857008image.php?u=542445&dateline=1274857008 watch out they don't make you dizzy!

Look, it's penguin gymnastics team! :D
    *******************************

    My pleasures for today:

    1) One kind of left over from yesterday - I put away the LO chilli from last night's dinner, which I'd left out overnight to cool down, and there were three good portions there. The whole lot can't have cost more than £1.50 to make - it's one of the cheapest (and tastiest) recipes I know. :money:

    2) The office manager at work has got permission to order me a new chair, and spent ages looking at different types to find one as similar as possible to my old one, which she knows I really liked.

    3) And our health and safety department managed to find a spare chair for me to use until it arrives, so I don't have to perch on that silly stool anymore. :)

    4) A petty, small-minded pleasure, but I can't resist: I've been having serious problems with the head of another department, who can't seem to understand why being head of a department doesn't mean he can do what he likes, when he likes - his arrogance and rudeness has reduced me to tears on occasion. He's now tried taking the same approach with a more senior member of staff - who's having none of it and has made a formal complaint about him. I admit I laughed when I heard that. Sorry. :o:o:o

    5) Used my voucher for BOGOF Greggs pasties for lunch - and of course I've got one for tomorrow's lunch, too. :D

    6) I didn't get arrested for shoplifting after running out of a shop without paying for my shopping. :j (I'd just seen an elderly gentleman fall over in the street outside, so I did have a good excuse, and I did go back once I'd made sure he was OK. ;))

    7) A discussion on another thread has reminded me to be glad that I now live in a dry, mould-free flat - two years ago that would have been my idea of heaven.

    8) 0 more days until I have a week off work. :D:D:D:j:j:j

Have a lovely evening and an even better weekend, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all,

hope you are all well. I am suffering with the cold and cough... *sniff*

Caterina - I love Rebus! Which one did you just finish?

Sparrer - WD on th £15 from the survey site. It is always satisfying to get to the threshold.

So today... another long day in the office... boo!

    1) Naughty, naughty girl... went out for fish and chip at lunch with my lovely colleagues. Cue lots of laughing!

    2) Naughty, naughty girl... put on the heating! I know it's not that cold but I need to try my washing and I'm sick so I deserve it!

    3) Naughty, naughty girl... scoffed nearly an entire tub of jelly beans that we were sent in as a sample!

    4) Chatted to the boss' PA - I haven't caught up with her in a while so that was nice.

    5) TGIF!

    Night night... sleep tight.

    L
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening everyone
Well, the 2 day headache has finally lifted and I've caught up on the sleep deficit, finally!

    My pleasures today:-
    1) Catching up on tedious jobs eg collecting prescription, food shopping
    2) Found a newly opened craft centre in the area - bliss! Only spent a few £'s on bits and bobs for my card making
    3) V pleased at my self control not buying home made fudge at said craft centre!
    4) Puddy tat is in very affectionate mode at the moment and has spent any opportunity snuggling up on my knee and purring loudly
    5) Planning a nice day out with friends for Monday

Do hope all with bugs and swollen glands etc feel better very soon.

    Nighty night all,
    Pam x
