5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
A mixture of pleasures from the weekend-
1) Going cupboard mining. Not pleasurable in itself, as the cupboard on the landing is orderly but very full. However, DD and DS were going on a church sleepover and I had decided I really ought to buy proper sleeping mats and bags. DD insisted that our old ones would do very well so that saved going into town.
2) Further back in the cupboard, I found the missing curtains for the living room. I knew I hadn't thrown them out ... Now have four matching curtains for our side windows and DH has bought a couple of poles to put them up (after first working out which was the cheapest kind of pole. We're learning.)
3) Did some digging. DH and I are trying to do one job a week for the house. I don't know how long this will last but the proposed veg patch is looking bigger.
4) The bee lady at my allotment. Basically, after visiting the allotment to look after her bees a few times, she put her name down for one. There are only 180 people on the waiting list so I offered her part of mine to keep her going and she is amazing! Tons of junk, left by the previous goat-owning tenant, have just disappeared! I was going to do it - eventually - but she just went down every day for a week and bunged it in her car piece by piece! If I'm really honest, I was a bit upset because the allotment is the only place I can be alone and make a mess but I'll share with her any day.
5) Getting the last bucket of windfalls off the ground and making an apple cake as a start to using them up.0 -
Here are my five for today:
1. A NSD! First in seriously ages! I'm chuffed with that.
2. Getting a free hot chocolate on the station. I found one of those loyalty cards (buy 4 drinks and get your card stamped, get a free drink next time). Whoo!
3. Watching the Moto GP race from Seppang that we recorded the other day. Cracking race.
4. Cheapy tea as I cooked an RTC Quiche I'd bought ages ago with some potato wedges.
5. Finding a peperami at the back of the fridge. Yay!
Have a good evening, everyone. I'll post a bit more tomorrow, as at the moment I'm a little down.

Hello folkies

1. NSD - 1st one in blooming ages.
2. Lovely clients all day at work
3. Tasty shepherds pie hauled out from the back of the freezer with lots of gravy
4. Cuddling up with the cats
5. My first mad attempt at curing bacon, watch this space.....
Happy Tuesday all x2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0 -
Oh dear Frith, I'm sorry about the horrid hives, hope they clear up quickly. Re Mr N I empathise on the insecurities. Fortunately they're not all tarred with the same brush and he's seen you in good times and bad and still keeps coming back. Sounds like a good 'un so far
I'm not a lover of porridge but the spiced plums sound very yummy CCP. Is it something you made yourself? Poor little mog, having his dignity ruffled by the thought he needed defleaing. Pleased he's forgiven you now
You've done it again Ladyhawk, worked all day, done laundry, chores and made chutney. I want to know where you get your clocks from, they've got more hours in a day than mine have, and I'm retired !
Bless you beachbaby, being able to be there for someone else. So good to be able to give back. Lol at the homecooked tea, good points scored there
Well done on the shredding Tealady, it can be tedious but feels good once it's done. Good for you having lunch out, being OS is super cos it allows you to have little treats like that occasionally
Good to see the OS has rubbed off on your DD Patchwork. The bee lady sounds a blessing to share a part of your lotty with, and no doubt there will be times she won't appear so you'll still get some 'you' time.
Congrats on the nsd kitchenbunny :T, and the free hot chocolate. Nice find!
Pleased you had a good day with your clients Ginger. Will wait with bated breath to see how the cured bacon turns out. You're very brave, I wouldn't have a clue where to start
my five
1. Went to my 'breathing' class (pulm rehab) which is always good as we have fun there - often laugh more than exercise
2. Went on to visit DD for coffee and a stroke with the parrot. Soppy bird
3. Stopped at the farm shop on the way home for cat food, quite a bit cheaper there than in the shops
4. Driving back from DD along the back roads, admiring the autumn trees with the sun shining on them. Then getting home and really noticing how beautiful the trees in the orchard beyond my garden are. I've never really liked autumn as it means months of cold and dark ahead but this (almost) made it worthwhile
5. Finished making the tea loaf, I've never come across such a simple, inexpensive recipe that even I could manage. Had a little taste when it cooled down, it's really delicious  . Thinking ahead, with a bit of mixed spice and some cherries etc it would make a very good alcohol-free alternative to Christmas cake.
Night night, sweet dreams

Oh, I'm ill again. :-( Still got the hives (I look like salami!) and was woken up by the return of the ear ache at 3am. I am going back to the Dr's at 10 so shall doubtless get another week of penicillin. :-(((
Hello, Honeybee83.
Anyway, 5 for yesterday (Monday).

Sparrer, I just read about your friend's burial, I am so sad for you, I don't think there are any words that can console, but I am thinking of you. Sorry if these words came late but I was not online for a few days.mineallmine wrote: »Actually Caterina, here's something to take things off your mind. I remember a while ago you being involved with Morse bags. Our local green grocers gives out awful, skinny thin plastic bags. I said to him he should try selling a few jute bags. Now the thing is I have not touched a sewing machine in err too many years to mention. So is there a way I could source material for someone (such as from freecycle) and they make them - so are there like local groups? It cuts through my heart that these awful bags are ending up in our seas, and our wildlife and want to do something. And it's a shame that I am USELESS with sewing. Any advice gratefully received.
Hi Mineallmine, thanks for supportive words re. invasive guest (see update). With regard to Morsbags, if you go to their website you might be able to get in touch with a fairly local group. But even without having too many machine skills, they are very straightforward to make (if you want to have a go). Here is the link to the website:

Hope it inspires you! Best wishes xxx:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

HAVE JUST LOST VAST POST, 2 HRS/13 '5 PLEASURES' LONG, WITH ELABORATIONS COMPLEX, AND YES, I'M SHOUTING IN CAPS TO ALL VIRTUAL READERS.
May come back later, a little less :eek::eek:-feeling.
(((HUGS))) Ampersand, this is the right place to have a shout once in a while, how annoying when that sort of thing happens, I think you are really in your right to have a little rant about the (sometimes dubious) pleasures of modern technology!
Best wishes to all of you who are under the weather, including me (bad cold and cough - it seems to be the season for it!).
A brief update on the "guest": first of all thank you very much for all your words of support, they counted a lot and made me feel that maybe I am not jsut a grumpy so and so for feeling mad!
I did not have the heart to turn him away on Thursday, but instead spelled out the house rules very strongly and clearly. He tried to apologise for the events but I cut him off and told him that the situation now is very different from last spring, that now we all work and I am hardly at home, and that when I am home I am either too busy or want to spend time with DH at the weekend. So he should get up in the morning and not be back until evening. On the day he arrived I said I am tired and went to bed. Then on Friday he was out all day. On Saturday he had dinner with us but mercifully DS wanted to watch the X Factor (which I normally DETEST!!!) and I said I wanted to watch it too, so we closed his bed (sofabed in the living room) and ate with the food on our knees on trays - so we did not have to make conversation. After a while I said I was tired, said to him that I won't see him on the next morning as he was leaving very early, and went to bed. He said thank you but he looked quite subdued - DH and I agreed later on that he must have got the message, because the level of hospitality, other than the basic "crash pad" and a bowl of soup, was in no way as warm and welcoming as the last time. He left on Sundaymorning and so far I haven't heard a peep from him (last time he sent us a great big thank you email). So perhaps he DID get the message (let's hope).
Meanwhile, here are my pleasures for the last few days:
1 - Friday night, out with DH, we went to see Made in Dagenham, great film, I recommend it highly!
2 - Saturday, we picked up all of our beans and tomatoes crop. The beans are cooking in the pan as I type and they will be split in boxes and frozen. The tomatoes are mostly green and I shall sell them to the deli local to my workplace when I go back to work.
3 - Sunday - the pleasure of waking up and finding my home free of unwanted guests!
4 - Still Sunday, outing with DH windowshopping in posh shops in Central London, had a great time.
5 - Monday: bad cold (not a pleasure!) but the pleasure was the loving care that DS displayed, he made me lunch and went to buy me strepsils and mags. DD gave me a book to read that I finished in one day.
6 - Today, still unwell so could not go to work (worried because lots of things to do). The pleasure is that I am feeling marginally better and also that I have managed to put the beans to cook, as well as some yellow sticker plums (to turn into jam tomorrow).
7 - Washing dried on the line, another wash to be hung up as soon as it is washed (lovely weather - shame I cannot enjoy it as I am still housebound by this cold).
Love to all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
An earlier post today I'm hoping to leave off the lap-top this evening - it gets addictive if I'm not careful. I must have had a good day if I have my five already! Frith and Sparrer, hope you will both be feeling better very soon. Hello to Honeybee83, I'm quite new here too. Caterina, I'm so glad your weekend went much better than expected and I hope your cold disappears soon. Here are my five,
1. Up early as usual but it meant my ironing was done by 8am!
2. Arranging yet another coffee with a friend on Saturday.
3. A nice easy morning at work.
4. Walking the dog through the autumn leaves and watching the squirrels.
5. Coming home to a nice cup of tea and no ironing.
Best wishes to all. X0 -
Afternoon all. Feeling the need to join in today, I hope nobody minds
1. Coming home from work to the smell of a veggie casserole in the slow cooker, made with yellow stickered bags of pre-prepared veg/beans...super cheap and no prep needed!
2. Arranging a cuppa with a friend for later in the week.
3. Discovering that my new 0% CC hasn't got a fee for balance transfers, so not adding any extra onto the debt.
4. Looking forwards to an entire day and evening off work tomorrow.
5. Fresh bedding on - just in time for tomorrow morning's lie in :j0 -
Evening peeps.
Welcome Bibbitybob and HoneyBee.
sparrer - yes, the spiced plums are HM - they're just fresh plums cut into chunks and cooked until soft with sugar, a cinnamon stick, and a splash of water. They're very yummy for something so simple.
My pleasures for today:
1) Another lovely sunny day. (Although a combination of broken air conditioning and a south-facing office meant the temperature at my desk was over 25 degrees by this afternoon, which was less pleasant.)
2) My grandmother has bought me a jar of the ginger jam I enjoyed so much last time I stayed with her.
3) Put the breadmaker on when I got home - a pleasure I have yet to tire of.
4) Football tonight. :footie:(Well, hopefully
, anyway.)
5) Three more days til my week off... (Can you tell I'm having another lousy week at work?)
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0
