Hello all, not been on for ages as life has been mad and I've had no time to post.
Here are my 5 for today:
1. Bumping into my previous neighbour's son who was having a very rough time and finding out he is now employed, happy and about to become a daddy soon. Had a tear in my eye. He's a lovely lad.
2. Sticking to my Slimming World diet despite the gient box of chocolates we have lurking in the dining room.
3. Watching Poirot and drinking cups of tea.
4. Buying the ingredients to make cakes for my parents golden wedding party next week. Really looking forward to it.
5. Going out for a walk soon to blow away the cobwebs.
Hope everyone has a nice evening.
Beachbaby - I have walked in your shoes. Be kind to yourself and just let the world turn. You will get through this terrible time, I promise x2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0 -
1. a baking session, made a fruit cake and alemon drizzle as well as Twinks Hobnobs.
2. steak for dinner.
3 DS2 and Dh been mending the car
4. lovely s unny day
5, the fire is lit and we are just settling down to watch a film togther."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
1) Waking up in my parent's insulated, double glazed, GCH house
2) Home made leek soup & bread for lunch
3) Seeing my childhood best friend and getting on so well like we were 8 again!
4) Bubble bath in a bathroom with no spiders or cracked tiles
5) The peace and serenity of being home!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Here's mine:
1. Sleeping myself out. Waking up 100% naturally, not by alarm clock, nor call of nature, nor any other distraction. Bliss!
2. DH bringing me a cup of tea (while still in bed).
3. I had a surprise parcel of a new computer game from DH as a thank you for looking after him while he wasn't well.
4. Gammon shank done in the slow cooker. £1.59 and it has yielded a bowl full of meat and the resultant stock to make soup with tomorrow.
5. I mentioned the other day to my Mum about having a stuffed lamb breast for tea. I have one ready to stuff in my fridge, and learnt today that Mum is going to do the same!Ah, the meals we remember from our youth.

Evening all.
I hope you've all had a very pleasant, peaceful Saturday.
Gingerjar - it's lovely to see you back, and I'm glad you're well. :T on resisting the box of chocolates.
Primrose - that's such a shame about your seedy sultanas.I can think of lots of nice things to do with sultanas, but none that would solve the pip problem. I'll keep thinking, and hope I can come up with something helpful.
ampersand - what a shame (to out it mildly) to lose your post after all that effort. I've lost posts before, but never one that long. I hope you've recovered your patience by now.
My pleasures for today:
1) A very long lie-in this morning - so long I'm not going to tell you what time I eventually woke up.I feel much better today, though, so maybe lots of sleep is what I need to shake off this cold and cough for good.
2) A lovely sunny day, and amazingly warm for the time of year...
3) ...which meant my washing could go outside for some fresh air.
4) Watching the Commonwealth Games this afternoon. As it's on during the day when I'm usually at work, this is the first bit of the Games I've managed to watch so far.
5) Naughty dinner tonight - a pizza from the supermarket counter. High fat, high salt, and more expensive than if I made my own - but sooo good.:D
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening all. ampersand and Gingerjar many thanks for your kind comments. Hope everyone is having a relaxing Saturday. My five for today,
1. Discovering my sofa seat covers can go through a 1/2 hour machine wash at 30 degrees even thought they say dry clean only. It has freshened them up nicely.
2. Scrambled egg on toast and coffee with a friend at a new cafe in town.
3. Choosing some new glasses that actually suit me and are really cheap. Very OS.
4. DD2 playing out in the sunshine. (She's not too grown up to 'play')
5. X Factor and hot chocolate.
My day was slightly marred by some comments from ex OH, but I am rising above it all. I wont let him spoil it for me!
Best wishes to all. X0 -
Evening All,
Speed reading the thread up to date.......
Sparrer - Thanks for the advice about the wood fire. I haven't tried it yet as the weather has improved and I haven't had the energy to experiment due to poorlyness!! (((Hugs))) and thoughts for B.
Girly Square - Hope the cold and vomiting virus has gone! I seem to have had it too. Just about feel OK today, after a week of feeling sorry for myself.CCP - hope you are better too.
GirlySquare - Glad you enjoyed the Synchro at the commonwealths. DD's coach was one of the judges. So no early morning training this week. Yay! It seems a frivolous sport, but you would be amazed at the training and committment the girls have to invest in 3 minutes of routine. So pround of them!
ZaraZara - Our blackberry vodka is looking a beautiful shade of purple. (Perhaps this should be a pleasure). have spotted some elderberries to make some elderberry schnapps tomorrow.http://http://www.danish-schnapps-recipes.com/elderberry.html
Beachbaby - well done on staying positive
Recent pleasures
1. Sitting on the sofa lots. (Guilt free as feeling ill).
2. Buying some Xmas pressies on line with a voucher code and cashback. :money:
3. Uni open day with DD today. Course not suitable, but spent some nice mummy and daughter time together, and managed to drive there and back without feeling sick!
4. Quiet evening with DS2. DH and DD at swimming gala, and DS1 at friends. DS2 v good company.
5. Catching up with the mummies at the school gate while off work. Looking forward to going out for a meal with them next week. (I miss my stay at home life).
Enjoy the rest of Saturday. HE xXx0 -
Thank you all so very much for being there for me, my DC never liked me to talk about B as they thought it disloyal to ex OH to discuss with me so I'm really grateful to have this 'safe' place to come to with my joys and sorrows.
Hoping all the poorlies get better sooner than soon, and everyone got as much as they could from the day whatever they did
1. The weather, dry and sunny with a breeze to dry washing
2. Went shopping for one item and spent £60, first time I've treated myself to anything new (ie not from a charity shop) this year. I needed boots and some warm sweaters for the winter so why do I feel so guilty? Perhaps it's a hangover from the days I only bought for the DC when I went shopping
3. Postie brought me some 3 minute hair repair from the land down under, and my Scottish NT pack
4. Moved some pots about to give the garden a different look. I rather like doing that, a bit like moving the furniture around just for a change. And I prefer pot gardening as there doesn't seem to be so many eight-legged things as there are in the ground
5. Bought a new loaf tin and the ingredients for a really inexpensive 'cup of tea' cake which I found on one of the forums. The fruit is soaking overnight, in Earl Grey, which one poster said gives a lovely flavour
Night night, sleep tight

Morning everybody. Mine so far today:
1. OH helped me dig out our compost heap. I now have a nice pile of compost for my vegetable patch and an empty cage to start loading up, so will now compost some of my surplus newspaper instead of recycling.
2. Picked some red kale for lunch. This year is the first time I've grown it so looking forward to seeing what it's like to eat.
3. Took advantage of good weather to recoat some of our fencing which was looking faded and tatty.
4. OH is busy making bread.
5. Black & White spotted woodpecker in the garden. Hadn't seen him for a few days so good to know he's still around.0 -
Afternoon all. Hope you've all had a lovely Sunday.
My pleasures for today are rather vegetable-based:
1) Picked the last of my tomatoes to ripen inside - my bedroom windowsill and a tray in the living room are now both covered with tomatoes in varying shades of green.
2) Oven-dried some of the ripe tomatoes. This isn't something I've done before, but they've turned out not bad at all, so I'll do another batch when the green ones have ripened.
3) Took some seeds from a tomato that was rather different from what is usual for that variety - I'll try growing them next year and, if they come out the same, I might have a new variety on my hands. (Well, I can dream!)
4) Dug up my HG tatties. I grew them from the last couple of potatoes left in a bag I bought for eating (i.e. rather than growing) which had gone a bit sprouty and manky: usually I would have just put them in the bin, so I'm quite pleased to get a bagfull of extra potatoes from what would previously have been rubbish. :j
Not vegetable related:
5) Probably an NSD. ('Probably' as I'm waiting for confirmation from a friend whether there's a quiz on tonight - I have a feeling that there isn't, and I don't want to trek up there to find there's no-one there.)
6) Got a batch of washing dry out in the nice sunshine.
7) Had a chat with my mum for an update on her family history research.
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0
