Comments
-
1. Lovely walk in the sunshine today - felt just like summer.
2. Supporting a Macmillan Big Coffee Morning.
3. Getting the laundry washed and dried.
4. Picking our grapes and now about to experiment with making grape juice and drying some in the oven for sultanas.
5. Got the lawn dry enough to get it mown so using the clippings to dig into my emptied patio container pots to rot down and regenerate the compost for next spring.0 -
Evening peeps.
Primrose - I love the idea of making your own sultanas - I'll be very interested to know how you get on (I know, I'm a dreadfully nosy soul).
sparrer - hugs to you.
Frith / Kitchenbunny - I must confess that I read it as 'gammon shark' as well.Meat that bites back, possibly?
zarazara - your blackberry vodka sounds good.I'm doing damson gin for the first time this year, and I can't wait to see how it's going to turn out.

Sadly, I've had a lousy day at work again, which ended with a senior colleague from another department giving me a flaming for doing something that I though had been generally agreed as necessary. One of my colleagues started giving me advice on how to react when my manager takes the other person's side - I think it says a lot about my current relationship with my manager that no-one really expects her to try to defend me.
Work whinges aside:
1) It's Friday, so the above is a problem for Monday. :j:j:j:j
2) The sun shone for most of the day.
3) I forgot to take any lunch into the office today (:o), so I treated myself to a baguette from the little sandwich shop down the road from the office. I like to use them occasionally as I feel small, local companies should be supported - it definitely helps that their food's delish, and very reasonably priced, too.
4) Treating myself to a glass of cider while typing this - naughty and irresponsible, I know, but I felt the need for a drink after today.
5) Fish, chips and mushy peas for dinner. It's all from the freezer and won't be quite as good as a takeaway, but should be pretty  all the same.
Have a lovely, peaceful evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
sparrer sending you hugs
CCP sorry you've had another lousy day
1) breakfast in bed
2) staying in bed whilst dp and dd went out shopping
Can only think of two today as I'm still feeling a bit off and hoping I'm feeling better over the weekend"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
CCP - as I type, the grapes have been in a slow warm oven for four hours and no signs of them drying out yet. I tasted a couple. It was like eating a delicious warm fruit salad, but whether I'm going to end up with any sultanas, I'm not sure. On the other hand we have the equivalent of several wine bottles of grape juice waiting to be filtered again to remove the residue of any pulpy bits. It has a lovely tangy taste and I'm not going to add any sugar to it as I find commercial grape juice far too sweet and sickly. The mashed grapes and liquid had to be simmered for ten minutes first to kill any natural yeast in the grapes, otherwise it would start fermenting and explode in the bottles. It's our first time doing this instead of making wine which takes weeks, so it's early days as to how it will work out.0

Evening all. Ampersand, thank you for your lovely post - how right you are. I have also noticed a difference in my frame of mind this week. Only five weeks ago I literally couldn't get out of bed for three days! It really helps to remember the positives on this thread. Any way another great day today so here are my five'
1. A glorious sunny day - washing dried on the line and a long walk with the dog.
2. Car cleaned inside and out - looks nice and shiney now.
3. Leek and potato soup made - tastes gorgeous. I love homemade soup in the colder weather.
4. Homemade chicken casserole made with some beans and courgettes from our garden and a nice normal evening at home. DD2 at youth club, DD1 upstairs with a friend. Great everyday stuff that 'he' will no longer experience.
5. A welcome glass of wine once I have collected DD2 and cousin from youth club.
Oh, and an extra one for yesterday. My mum (even though she knew I had bought the chocolate fudge cake) bought a bag of doughnuts round for us. I think she is trying to fatten me back up again!
Best Wishes to all. X0 -
Evening
CCP - Sorry you are having such a lousy time at work
Beachbaby - Good to hear you sounding so much more positive about everything
Pleasures for today:
1. Plumber came to measure our bathroom for a refit, just waiting on the quote but really looking forward to having it done. Looked at some tiles and bathroom suites tonight
2. DD hoovered the living room this afternoon
3. Lunch at the pub with a couple of people from the office - Chilli and wedges so yummy
4. Sorted out another 2 bags of rubbish to go to the tip tomorrow
5. two lots of washing line dried today and most of it folded and put away, just a few bits that need ironing
Hugs to all who need them0 -
1) A morning's study in front of the fire instead of putting the heating on.
2) Lunch date with DH came to less than £15 and I got to hear all about what's going on.
3) Made burgers for tea with some left over for meatballs tomorrow. The lettuce explosion outside still hasn't frozen over or otherwise expired so I'm hoping for more salad to go with them.
4) Finished Ds's gf's scarf for Christmas in a new and very basic stitch but I feel as if I've learned something.
5) Am wearing my £2.99 short denim skirt. Probably too young for me but at that price from the charity shop I can have a bit of fun.
Hugs to everyone in these grim times.0 -
Beachbaby, that is such a lovely post you've written on so many levels - over and again, real congratulations.
I must also join the Morrison's gammon shark peeps - that's what my brain skimmed too.
Bien - my usual flexible five:
1. reverbe - found a £2 coin o/s Mr T and for goodness knows what reason invested it in 1st ever Euromillions tkt and one for ce soir. Sorry, had moment's excitement[against spirit of this Thread, yes I know, I know]when hearing earlier that a UK tkt had won their biggest ever prize, 118 million euros, and assumed it was me

Not sure about posting any pleasures today. My oven dried grapes (which were supposed to be seedless) have given a nice crop of sultanas, but seedless THEY ARE NOT ! I'm now wondering what to do with them as if I put them in cakes or biscuits, somebody will probably break a tooth or damage a filling on them. So what on earth can I do with them?
And I've now got four wine bottles of grape juice. Unfortunately I may have overdone the Campden sterilising process as instead of zingy grape juice, all I can taste is Campden. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this taste will wear off in time, otherwise my entire grape crop this year will have been a bit of a waste. Would have done better turning them into wine in the first place, but we couldn't face all the hassle involved.:rotfl:0 -
Mine for today are:-
1. Had my flu/swine flu jab this morning.
2. DH treated us to a nice breakfast and coffee in the local cafe.:j
3. Preparing for a week away at our caravan.:T
4. A free brace of pheasants roasting in the oven, to eat with roast potatoes, broccoli cheese and our own homegrown little charnternay carrots.:)
5. Can't wait to watch Strictly come dancing and Merlin this evening and a bit of X Factor.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.:rotfl:Felines are my favourite
