Hello everyone, great to read everyone's 5 things. Makes me stop and reflect and stop grumbling about trivia. So here are mine:
    1. Up at 5.30am to go to 6.45 Body Pump with 2 friends. An hour's exercise and back home by 8.10!
    2. Going back to bed after Body Pump and snoozing for another hour.
    3. Painting my DDs fingernails, she has stopped biting them and is very proud.
    4. Going out with friends tonight for a masala dosa, crispy, spicy and yummy.
    5. Watching the final episode of The Bill with my family and cats.

    Sleep tight all x

Hi Red shoes , good to have another Woman's Hour fan on board
Well done on the lavender crickett, I bought one 6 months ago, it's growing well but think it's 'blind' - will have to look up how to trim it, maybe that will help
Caterina those family times are so good to have, just enjoying each others company. We always ate Sunday dinner as a family and would go round the table afterwards discussing everyone's pleasures or grievances. Funny how pocket money was always the first on the childrens agenda :D
Gintot the picnic sounds lovely, and the apple crumble, one of my favourite puds, even better
Oh my goodness house elf, I'll go to Glastonbury with you, haven't been since the 80's :o. I even have a pop up tent I bought for the DGC to use but it's not been out of the box yet. Hope your DD won't have lasting bad memories of her experience, just good ones of the festival. I agree about the stews, much tastier for standing overnight
Good for you going to the gym savingforoz...and even better to come back to hm bread ;). Please you sorted the lappy problem, there are times I could happily throw mine at a wall but get there in the end
Welcome rablovesroo :hello:. Sounds like you had a fun time at Southend. I love it there, reminds me of when we, and half of London, went for a Sunday in the summer.
Good for you getting the carpets done primrose, what a satisfying feeling it is. No shoes in your house for the foreseeable future, I'll bet :D
Hope you find some good things to do with DD tealady, those last days of the hols are so precious, aren't they? (I was the Mum crying at the school gate on the first day of term, wanted to keep my 'babies' home with me!)
Gingerjar congrats on getting up so early to exercise - my exercise is getting out of bed ad putting the kettle on! ;). Bless your DD for growing her nails, it's quite a landmark in growing up, isn't it?

    my 5 -
    1. Found the perfect fruit bowl in a charity shop for £2 for my soon-to-be shabby chic, French style kitchen. It's actually Italian but I doubt anyone will turn it over to see when it's on the table full of fruit :D
    2. The little boy, about 8 years old, buying some books who said 'after you' when we got to the counter at the same time. Thank you Alex :), you'll go a long way in life with such good manners
    3. Weeded the front which is quite easy as it consists of only 15 paving slabs :D
    4. Settled down to watch the final episode of the Bill when the phone rang, then someone came to the door . But I have the pleasure of seeing it tomorrow now
    5. The three loads of washing I did over the past few days has only yielded two items to iron :T

Night night, sweet dreams (((hugs))) all round

    5 for today (Tuesday).

    1) Went to the barbers for smaller son and he looks very tidy now.

    2) Bumped into my sister when we were in town so we all had some sweets by the river.

    3) Drove to Walsall to have lunch with my friend and her children.

    4) Popped to Ikea on the way home.

    5) Made myself drive home on the motorway (I loathe it and it terrifies me). I thought I was hiding the extreme terror quite well from sons but smaller son said, "You don't have to worry about lorries, Mummy. The drivers have to take an extra test and they drive all day for their job so they're really quite safe". :o I hadn't driven on the motorway with passengers for nearly 5 years! I had done it alone twice and found that equally as bad.

    6) MrN came round and has just gone. Sadly, the horrid motorway driving set off a lovely run of ptsd so he has just witnessed 2 hours of my occasionally giving a massive twitch (I did tell him why!). As he's lived next door for 8 years he has seen me before, during and post my nervous breakdown, and in all moods from happy to hysterical AND zonked out on tablets. Quite glad to be upstairs now where I can twitch to my heart's content!

Last day of the holidays tomorrow.
  • Morning all.

    My 5 from yesterday:

    1) Cup of coffee brought to me in bed by OH - I'm a monster without my first cup
    2) Another hot, sunny day with a good breeze - it was lovely to see some kids flying kites
    3) Shoe shopping with OH was painless - he bought the first pair he tried on
    4) An easy day at work
    5) Realising I do like my naturally curly hair after all - I ditched the straighteners about 3 months ago (but I'll hold onto them just in case)

Sparrer - A couple of years ago, my colleagues (all female) used to laugh at me for listening to an 'old woman' radio programme like Woman's Hour because I was in my early thirties. I don't think any of them had actually ever listened to it.

    Morning all!

    Yesterdays pleasures:

    - Donating a big bag of stuff to the charity shop and NOT buying anything while I was there.
    - Borrowing a Crochet book from the library that I have been looking out for for a long time.
    - Lots of clothes washed and dried.
    - Venison burgers for tea, never had them before, but they were very nice indeed.
    - Finished my cross stitch.

EDIT: Just noticed, this is my 1000th post! Wohoo!

  • My five:

    1) ditching the housework last night and instead going through some of my amassed cross stitch patterns. In the process found LOADS of cross stitch kits and embroidery cloths and all sorts of stuff! :) Had a very happy time.

    2) Its sunny again today!

    3) Speaking to my Mum on the phone this morning and giving her a boost to her confidence. She is battling with Dad, who is being a VERY recalcitrant patient at the moment. Told her to give him hell! We know he wants to come out of the hospital, but he can't come out until he is better. And he isn't better yet.

    4) Florence, one of my cats, was found curled up around an extension cable, which was rather bizarre, but very cute.

    5) A rare treat today...I am going to buy my lunch out. :D Haven't decided what or where yet.

  • Hi,

Thanks everyone for your lovely welcomes:

    My five for today are:

    1. A most divine chilli con carne in the local pub with tortillia chips, not having to cook is a nice change (although i actually do love cooking, just not the evil washing up! :p)

    2. A nice walk across Highbury Fields to get to my place of work - an 'everyday' one as I make this journey every weekday but still good, especially when the sun is shining and the pavement is lined by big lovely trees :)

    3. Having a nice evening out with my OH going for a meal and the cinema - that's not very OS but i love going to the movies!

    4. Having a really nice bunch of people to work with. I have only been in my new job for a couple of months and compared to my last job this is paradise! Much less physical and mental demand on me and all the staff are so friendly. Plus more holidays and salary! I am very lucky, especially considering the eonomic climate. I wish great fortune on all others looking for jobs: don't give up!! It took me 18 months to find this one

    5. A nice chat with my Mum on the way home. Am eating round hers tonight, can't wait (is best cook ever) but more so because i love her so much and can't wait to get mama hugs :j

Have a lovely evening everyone :)

    Hello to everyone :)

    Mine today:

    1. I'm off work today and the weather is gorgeous!

    2. DH won tickets to Goodwood Revival, along with hotel, spending money and (for him) a lap in a Ford GT40 which he is extremely excited about and so am I :)

    3. Was worrying about what I'd wear to Goodwood when I popped into the local charity shop and found an Audrey Hepburn-style black dress from H&M that's absolutely perfect - cost me £4.95! And I have pearls and/or my lovely diamante jewellery from my wedding to go with it, plus my wedding handbag.

    4. Tried out my new madeleine baking tin that I got from Lakeland the other day and the little cakes are absolutely beautiful, I can hardly bear to eat them (but I will).

    5. After two weeks of dieting I have already got back into some jeans I haven't been able to wear for months, hurrah!

Crickett1234 I hope your dad is much better soon and able to come home :)

Evening all. Hope you all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.

A few highlights from my weekend away:

    - the open-air music concert I went to on Sunday was pretty good, despite seriously chilly weather and some of the most indiscreet drug use I've ever seen at a public event (apparently there were loads of arrests for possession of drugs last year, which they dealt with by cutting right back on police / security presence this year. I'm sure there were less arrests, but I'm also sure the organisers have missed the point slightly!)

    - saw a couple of hares

    - had a lovely cuddle with a pet sheep belonging to a friend of my mum's - a gloriously friendly, woolly creature :)

    - took a walk on the downs surrounded by blue butterflies

    - and exercised my dog magnet abilities on the cutest German pointer puppy

    - came home with loads of produce from my parents' garden, including a huge bag of blackberries to use in the blackberry and apple cake recipe from villagelife

    - watching my cat go racing round the flat in delight at having me home again - he's got amazing energy for a 17 year old mog!

    And today's pleasures:

    1) His Royal Furriness was a bit off-colour this morning, with a slightly upset tum, but he was fine by the time I got home.

    2) Got the cheque for recycling my old mobile phone, and they paid me the full price, despite the dodgy battery. :j

    3) Picked a huge number of tomatoes, as they all seem to have ripened over the weekend.

    4) Dinner tonight will be French bread pizza, made with tomatoes, spring onions and basil, all HG. :D

    5) Hugs from my puddy tat, in his continued pleasure at having me home (I was only gone 4 days!).

Have a very pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
  • Hi folkies

Have been feeling a bit sick and stressed today as am going to be made redundant. Not sure how I feel, have just done my budget and should be ok til Xmas if I pull belt right in. So in the spirit of cup half-full and thinking of it as a new opportunity, here are my 5:

    1. Glorious glorious sunshine today
    2. A good night's sleep after all the hellish exercise yesterday, am trying to think of my aching muscles as a positive thing!
    3. A nice card from my Auntie - one of my favourite people
    4. A fridge full of home grown courgettes to be "creative" with
    5. A better day tomorrow
