Funkymonkey849 - your new dress and shoes sound fab!

JackieO - I agree with saying "b****r the housework"!

Caterina - enjoy reading your new (to you) books. So sorry I won't have time to come up to London to catch up with you before I go.

GirlySquare - well done on the Wii 6 week challenge!

Ladyhawk - your veg all sound delicious.

CCP - isn't it lovely when someone takes the time to give a sincere compliment?

    Welcome, betterlife!

Wogglemaker - good wishes for your continuing recovery.

Tealady - ooh, an eat as much as you want buffet! I love those!

Frith - I won't turn down pasta with courgettes if you want to come here and cook for me...:D

BlimusOReilly - the coastal drive sounds lovely - where was that?

molliethewestie - congratulations on your new nephew!

    Recent ones for me:

    1. My colleague telling me, in a choked up voice, that she'll miss me when I leave.

    2. Having fun at work by putting up a sign proclaiming that I only have another 4 weeks left.

    3. Yummy Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherley in NCIS. Drool....

    4. Getting a call from my letting agent yesterday to say there's 3 viewings of my house today, and another call this morning to say the people who viewed today are very interested. Fingers (and legs and eyes) crossed!

    5. Feeling full of vim, vigour and energy every day!

    6. Starting to make arrangements for goodbye drinks/meals before I go. The last week in September is pretty busy!

    7. Fleshing out more details on the plot of the novel that I intend to write during my year off travelling. I'm getting to grips with Dragon's speech recognition software to help me as I am utterly pants at typing. And I also loathe it. So this has to be the way to go.

    8. An Italian meal out with my brother and his girlfriend. I don't often eat pizza, and they did a yummy cheese-free one for me, so it made a good change.

    9. Smashing my August work targets by 47.5% - I'll make them sorry they're losing me! :D

    10. Seeing the lovely piccies of that cute baby pygmy hippo - did anyone else catch that? He's a sweetie!

Have a great weekend, everyone, whatever you're doing.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    Hi all

    wogglemaker
, glad to hear you are out of hospital!

savingforoz, it is a pity we won't catch up in person before you go but I am sure you will come to the forum to give us your news during your travel! You must be getting really excited now! See you (in person) on your return, whenever that will be!

I had a lovely day today and here are some of my pleasures:

1 - Breakfast of last homemade scone and a bit of bread crusts, with homemade plum jam - eating homemade stuff never fails to give me a little thrill of satisfaction!

2 - Morning spent at the allotment, weeding the raised beds and covering the future brassica area with old carpet to avoid weed growth.

3 - Observing how well the brassica cage is made, good work by DH and DS.

4 - Observing (and being observed by) a lot of animals while working: a couple of young foxes that live behind the fence, magpies, a little black cat. Also seen a few bees, which I like because I am so worried about the bees' falling numbers.

5 - Fish and chips lunch in Lewisham with LilacLillie, who is back from her holidays, we had a good catch up and it was great to see her.

6 - Went to see another friend to say goodbye before I go to Italy (tomorrow) and sat in her lovely garden, she does not do veg but concentrates on flowers and herbs, it is a really lovely "cottage" garden and an oasis of peace.

7 - Picked up lots of radishes (for leaves as well as roots), cicoria, beet leaf and courgettes - I shall cook them in olive oil, garlic and chili as a pasta dressing.

Not sure when I shall be able to get back online as I am going away tomorrow, but hope to do so in the next few days in Rome (in Sardinia it is hopeless to find an internet cafe, so I might be offline for a while after all).

Have a great few weeks everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • My five pleasures for today are:-

    1. Homegrown apples from MIL, for lunch. And a yoghourt. :)

    2. A very sunny day here in Kent, (for a change), washing out on the line.:j

    3. Picking some of my Hungarian Hotwax chillies and pickling them in vinegar, peppercorns, garlic and dill. :T

    4. Half the ironing done by my lovely DH. (((DH))):smileyhea

    5. Some grilled steak, fried eggs and rustic potato wedges for our supper. Watching Britain's Best dish, first though. :rotfl:

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

Mine for the last couple of days

    1. The weather turning warmer
    2. 2 nsd's
    3. Gave the eucalyptus a serious haircut, it's now back to it's 7 feet high lollipop shape. Of course, it's supposed to grow to 60 feet but it does look nice like this. I also keep a few sprigs to put in a vase near the back door as flies don't like it.
    4. Earned enough points to apply for an Amazon voucher
    5. Postie brought me a deodorant to trial
    6. Heard that I won a smellies gift box in a raffle last weekend, which will go in the Christmas gifts stash as I can't use perfumed toiletries
    7. Furminated the cats and dog. They look a lot sleeker, while I'm wearing a thick layer of their hair. Not OS but will be good insulation in the winter :D
    8. Having spent three days trying to send some money to India via my bank who were being very pedantic, I was told about Western Union and sent it at a third the cost

    Have a good evening,
    S x

:rotfl: Maybe that's what my cat's doing - insulating the sofa in case this winter's as cold as the last one!

Caterina - have a lovely time in Italy. I'm ever-so-slightly jealous as I've wanted to visit Rome for a long time - I will get round to it / be able to afford it one day... Your #7 sounds delicious, BTW.

savingforoz - WD on that work target - that's well and truly smashed! Be careful you don't do it too much, or they might lock you in the office and refuse to let you go. ;)

Frith - WD to your smaller son on his first day - it sounds like he did really well. :T Re courgettes in pasta - I admit I'm not keen on the things either, but I've found they're pretty tasty grated and cooked with some finely chopped bacon - might your sons try it if it's cooked like that? (Assuming you eat meat, of course - I have to admit I can't remember if you do or not. :o)

wogglemaker - it's lovely to see you back - I'm so pleased to hear you're out of hospital, and I hope you stay out for a good while this time.

betterlife - welcome to the thread. :hello: I hope your 9 yr old's having a lovely time - I'm sure he is.

    My 5 for today:

    1) Another fine sunny day. :)

    2) Took some HG cherry tomatoes to work with me to go with my lunch - yum!

    3) Picked lots more tomatoes, including the first Black Russian one, which are my favourites.

    4) Celebrated getting paid by treating myself to a treacle tart while shopping - not very OS, I know, even on special offer, but I do love treacle tart with stewed plums.:drool::drool:

    5) I can't actually think of a fifth one, which is strange as it's been a pretty pleasant day. That can be my #5, I guess - just general pleasurableness (if that's a word). :)

Have a lovely Friday evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening

Caterina - Hope you have a lovely holiday
Frith - My DD and OH have the same aversion to courgettes but I love them. Even when I try to sneak them into things they always find them.

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Quiet hour with the house to myself this morning to enjoy a cup of tea and catch up on here
    2. Swapped some money around bank accounts today and boosted my ISA by another £160:j
    3. Received a cheque for recycling 2 old mobile phones for nearly £60, got almost double what I was expecting thanks to MSE:money:. Cheque also to go in ISA
    4. Bought DD some clothes in Mr.T using the double up vouchers. She has had another growth spurt so good timing with the vouchers
    5. Lunch date with OH today, lovely sandwich sat outside by the lake at the local golf club.

Hugs to all who need them
  • Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome back. Heres a few more from yesterday and today.

1 Another lovely sunny day -

2 Washing all done and dried on line, including the mountain from DS's now fairly tidy bedroom

3 Hubby finaly looking at low GI information, he's struggling not to follow me on the path of insulin (and I find it works keeping my sugars down when not on high dose steroids).

4 Lovely HM whole grain bread for breakfast with a few baked beans

5 HM tomato & red pepper soup, whole grain bread ham ( home cooked) and HM coleslaw for lunch

6 Hubby made a big tray of faggotts - six portions in the freezer and two in our tummies - they were lush with a few proper chips and processed peas

7 the last bit of yesterdays chicken is now sat in the fridge as Coronation Chicken for two meals tomorrow

Do you see a pattern here - i'm enjoying home cooked food and looking in the fridge & freezer to see what I fancy.

    8. Started sewing up the squares for dads throw, being 12 inch squares it will not take long.

9 Ordered a camping salt & pepper set for my hospital bag and some plastic bottles for condiments to try & make the food a bit more interesting.

10 We tipped out our spud tub - not a fantastic haul, but more than in the two tubs last year.

11 Hubby agreed in principle to starting the declutter with a car boot table on Sunday - weather forcast good and almost the end of the season.

Hi everyone from a sleepy Ladyhawk...

Woggle - I am impressed my you making your dad a throw. I was inspired on here to attempt one a few months ago. I have started gathering fabric and have acquired a little sewing machine but I have no idea where to start!

The presentation went well ish... one of the potential clients was being a little awkward which was unneccessary but everything else went well and I came home with a good haul of fruit and cobnuts to be made into stuff!

    1) Yummy veggie breakfast at a little cafe paid for my expenses (not mine for a change!)

    2) Good haul of fruit from work which I will be preparing this evening to make into jam

    3) Popped into see my eldest brother and FSIL on my way home and sharing my fruit and veg with them. It was nice to catch up with them and hear about their wedding plans

    4) Having the foresight to iron my work shirt last night

    5) Kitty cat was curled up with me for a little cuddle earlier.

    Night night all.

Sleep well - I certainly will!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
