5 for Friday...
1) First boy free day since 23rd July! I changed the beds, cleaned the bathroom, tidied and took a bag to the charity shop.
2) Mum came round and gave me a lift to the charity shop.
3) Boys were happy at school.
4) Tasty tea.
5) MrN came round and has just gone. We both fell asleep. Which would be OK except I had already fallen asleep squashing my sons while we watched Halcyon River Diaries on iplayer earlier on!0 -
Ahh, it's good to be back!
1) Just got back from holiday in France with MIL and FIL. Most impressed by the attitude in rural France, which seems to be use it up/wear it out/grow your own. Every garden had a row of tomato plants, some courgettes and a row of beans under the fruit trees. Yes, the cars were scruffier and the shutters on some of the houses were peeling but I liked that. FIL says that most of the 'tourist' attractions in their area don't do very well because the local people spend holidays having meals at each other's houses. Sounds good to me.
2) Free Coke with our brunch order at the local supermarket cafe because they know us and they messed up our order (only slightly).
3) Coffee date with DH. We haven't done anything on our own for nearly two weeks, which was practically the only downside of the holiday.
4) Return shopping cost £23 for the basics - cheese, milk, bread and some mince. Will have to go down to the allotment tomorrow to track down some veg.
5) The apple tree is dripping with red apples. Although I know I'm going to have to do something with them shortly, it's a welcome sight.0 -
Evening all.
Patchwork Quilt - I'm glad you had a nice time in France.
savingforoz - you're right - that's one cute hippo! (We need an 'awww...' smiley, I think.)
My pleasures for today:
1) Nice lie-in this morning, with less hassle than usual from the cat.
2) My hairdresser managed to squeeze me in to an appointment on Monday lunchtime so I can go to my grandmother's funeral with tidy hair (well, as tidy as it ever gets, anyway!).
3) Gave my tomato plants a good tidy-up, so I can see all the tomatoes which were hiding under the leaves.
4) Filled in the survey for the tomato seeds I was doing a trial on, so that's one more bit a paperwork off the mantelpiece.
5) HM pizza for dinner, recreating one I had on holiday on the Isle of Wight last year and is now a firm favourite (smoked mozzarella and parma ham, with rocket, chopped tomato and grated parmesan added after it comes out of the oven, if you're interested).
Naughty 6 - I might have a glass of wine with my pizza. I bought a bottle as I need some for tomorrow's dinner, but it seems a shame to cook all of it...
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -

Evening all,
Hope you are fit and flourishing.
I have had a really busy day today.
1) Up early to bake cupcakes to give to my friend who looked after the cat while I was in France. I did pink icing which I thought her two little girls would like. The oldest one (aged 6) declared that I was the bestest cake maker in whole world! Bless her cotton socks... it really made my day
2) Made loads of jam today: strawberry, blueberry, damson, blackberry. I will be making some plum jam and some redcurrent jelly this evening.
3) Sewed on the 5 squares that I knitted for my blanket while I was away.
4) Collected a water butt from a freecycler... it stinks!!! I will try to figure it out when it is light outside.
5) Dried some tomatoes in the oven for Christmas presents... I did yellow and red ones which should look pretty when I layer then in the jar.
Nighty night everyone.
Sleep well
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Another pleasant day:
1. Waking to discover that the early morning sunshine was just about warm enough to
have breakfast out in the garden. Carpe Diem! Every morning now could be the last opportunity.
2. Doing some shopping, then sitting in a cafe with a coffee listening to a band playing.
3. Picking another batch of ripe peppers and chillies and freezing them.
4. Noticing how the sun of the last few days has really been ripening many of my tomatoes.
5. Lovely dinner with crispy fried pork, and stir fried home grown vegetables.0 -
Evening
Pleasures for today:
1. Shopping trip to Kingston with DD, she needed a few more bits of clothes for Autumn/Winter. Managed to get most of the bits in Primark.
2. Resisted the temptation to buy loads of things in Lakeland, just enjoy the walk round the shop though almost drooling at all the lovley things.
3. First big food shop done for weeks. Stocked up on lots of store cupboard ingredients and still came in on budget that I set myself:money:
4. OH getting some private work today, not only nice to have the extra money but another step in the direction of being able to work for himself.
5. Watching the link Savingforoz posted of the pygmy hippo with DD, so cute
Hugs to all who need them0 -
a quick 5 tonight as I'm off on my 'tour of the motorways' (well, 3 of them) in the morning, to visit my mother for the day.
1. A lovely sunny morning
2. nsd
3. levelled the ground and laid the sand in prep for the paving slabs for my new patio, which took almost all day. I have to pay someone to lay them as they're too heavy for me but considering my great age:eek: together with arthritis and copd I'm pretty pleased with myself, if I can blow my own trumpet
4. Two dear friends visited unexpectedly this evening, they wanted to tell me their news. One has had a windfall and has bought a house with it :T. It also allows her partner to retire at the end of the year, not in 18 months as planned. I'm so, so happy for them, it was wonderful to see the excitement when they told me, and I'm honoured to be the first person they've told
5. A brief phone call to my dear friend, just long enough to say hello
Night night (((hugs)))

3) Went to the woods with sons and my school friend.
4) Went next door for tea.
5) MrN called round later on.0
