I love reading through this thread, it always makes me feel so warm and cosy inside and reminds me to slow down and look closer at what is around me.
I've had a manic couple of months and only now am I feeling able to get myself fully organised and back into OS. Here are my pleasures for the weekend..
1. Our housewarming on Sat - it rained on the BBQ but everyone pulled together and I still had a lovely time. It was great to spend time with friends, I don't usually have the confidence to entertain so once I'd stopped stressing I enjoyed it.
2. Having a lazy day with OH for his Birthday yesterday - snuggling on the sofa and shutting out the wind and rain.
3. Toasting marshmallows over a candle whilst watching a film.
4. Making a Birthday lunch & tea with BBQ leftovers.
5. Giving OH a handmade card that he really loved.0 -
Caterina - Thanks so much for your lovely welcome back message - it encapsulates all that is great about this thread. And thanks to GirlySquare, CCP, Sparrer and Tealady too
sparrer - I'm so sorry to hear that your friend isn't doing too well at the moment. And 'wow!' you're going to India? How exciting!
SavingforOz - your trip must be soon too? When do you go?
House elf - not a fan of vodka so we usually make blackberry brandy. It's so good in the winter:beer:.
Poor DD being squished at Reading - I bet you're looking forward to having her home. Me and a friend got squished badly at Reading while watching The Pogues (late 80s) - I'm quite tall and big, but Pogue fans seemed much bigger and taller - it was pretty terrifying.
glitterkitty - keeping the cost of your weekly shopping low is so satisfying isn't it? It really doesn't take much to keep me pleased! :T
Hope everyone is enjoying the Bank Holiday.
We've had a really bad coastal wind for the past couple of days so haven't been up to much. But at least the rain stopped a while ago.
The in-laws were here over the weekend and that was a terrific strain as the weather was so bad and there was nowhere to escape to in our tiny cottage.
So this will be quite a feat if I manage to find five for yesterday!
1) The in-laws left earlier than planned yesterday. That was a great pleasure
2) But they left a negative fug in the house so we all had to get out and let the stormy weather blow all the negativity away! It was nice all being together.
3) DS2 and I parked up by the sea wall at high tide to watch as the waves crashed over the wall, splashing the car. Laughter and screams at the same time!
4) Roast chicken left-over bonanza! Gorgeous chicken soup and a chicken and veg pie for tea. I think I may need to practice on my pastry making skills though - the pastry tasted a bit like the jam tarts we made in cookery at school.:o
5) Watched 'The Road' on dvd with Dh. A very bleak film, so it's not exactly a pleasure but it was a good film, so I'm counting that as the pleasurable bit.
DS2's 7th birthday tomorrow, so this week is starting to get a lot more joyous!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

sparrer sending good vibes to you and your df
house elf how frightening and dangerous for your dd, so glad security came to the rescue and all's well
Bibbitybob glad you had a lovely cosy day with your oh on his birthday
Blimus wishing your ds2 a happy birthday for tomorrow!
Mine for yesterday:
1) more Wii fitness first thing
2) cuddles from dd
3) listening to more of the mindfullness cd
4) making Carluccio's tasty pasta with courgettes for tea, using our own chilli. They do pack a punch when fresh off the plant. Will do the spinach balls to go with it next time.
5) watching 'Grumpy Old Men' on Comedy Central (I think it was via Dave?) followed by 'Grouchy Young Men' and taping the end as we were both falling asleep so we've got more to watch tonight. An added bonus is that Robert Webb narrates Grouchy Young Men."We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Hello everyone,
I haven't been here for a few days, but have been faithfully following the thread.
Mine for the last week are:
1 I paid too much tax last year, and have just been re-imbursed.It's in my 'rainy day/not to be touched' fund.I'm well happy!
2 I re-discovered a savoury pancake recipe using chickpea flour.I've been eating a lot of pancakes,as I had a 1kg bag to use before the end of August.Tonight I had the pancakes with natural HM yoghurt and HM red tomato chutney.
3 I've hardly had any NSDs this month, which was not the plan, but have managed to stay within my allowance.
4 I made some muffins. The first lot were a disaster, but the second were good.(Yes,I'd never made muffins before). It's part of my plan to try my hand at baking new things (inspired by 'The Great British Bake-Off)'.So in September I'm trying a Victoria sponge,a semolina cake and maybe more muffins.
5 My friend has given me another marrow, and has heaped praise on my marrow, apple and ginger jam.Marrow jam is unheard of here (Switzerland),I'm going to give her the recipe.
6 I've been having a lot of 'Good Hair Days' recently. Most unusual for me,most days are a BHD!
7 I'm getting back into running, went twice last week.I hardly managed it this summer,it was too hot.Need to make it 3 times a week. I can run 35 minutes slowly, the next stage is 40 minutes.
8 Less than 3 weeks til I'm on holiday.
9 Having a glass of 'Old Jamaica Ginger Beer' Soda.IMO possibly the best drink on this planet.
CCP Glad you like HRF.It's a title that is actually bestowed on all cats at birth, but few humans are privy to this information.;)
Good night everyone x0 -
Here are todays pleasures:
- Made the famous weetabix brownies from the recipe here on OS, it was very nice indeed!
- DH has cut grass AND painted some fences, gate and shed. As well as cleaning the pile of plant pots at the end of the garden. It looks lovely and tidy now.
- Blue skies.
- Decluttering mission continued: a massive pile of magazines and brochures now recycled
- Reading my book.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

Evening
Today has been an interesting day if not what was planned see no.2
1. Cup of tea in bed made by DD
2. DD found a chicken in our garden today, once I realised she wasn't just trying to wind me up we set about trying to find where it had come from. We back onto a playing field so could have come from houses on several different streets. Set about knocking on doors asking people if they had lost a chicken (lots of strange looks). We were starting to think would never find owners so set about trying to catch it as we get a lot of foxes. I have never laughed so much in my life seeing OH and DD chasing a chicken around the garden trying to get it in a cat box lent by a neighbour. We eventually found the owner, turned out it only came from 5 doors away. So one safe chicken back were it should be.
3. Lots of baking this afternoon after the great chicken adventure. Made scones, bakewell tart, almond macaroons (from the original bero cookbook and ginger parkin also a bero recipe.
4. Lovely Roast Beef (greatly reduced which has been sitting in my freezer) with all the trimmings including HM horseradish sauce. HM horseradish is so much stronger than the bought stuff. So glad I hadn't planned chicken today don't think I could have done it:eek:
5. Popped to Mr.T for some baking supplies and found £10 in the street:jgone in the sealed pot savings tin
Hugs to all who need them0 -
5 for today.
1) Bacon sandwiches for breakfast.
2) Going out with my sons, MrN and 1 of his sons to a local park.
3) Tea with Mr N etc. Just got home.
4) Quick chat on the phone with my sister.
Drat, that's only 4! A good day, though. :-)0 -
Late again, I do try to get to bed by 11pm but always get my second wind about then and the general tidy-up the lounge for the morning becomes a clean-up of the kitchen as well. I like to go down to no washing up and a shiny cooker top, fussy beggar that I am!
My 5 -
1. Found some wholemeal rolls in the freezer so had two toasted with yogurt and marmalade for breakfast. Delicious
2. A good sunny, blowy day for the wash I should have done yesterday but forgot. All dry and folded within about 2 hours
3. Sorted out my filing system, did lots of shredding for a neighbours guinea pig
4. nsd as I didn't go further than the garden
5. A power cut at 10 pm, only lasted about 20 mins but two neighbours sent me a text to ask if I was okay. A double blessing as it saved me about half a penny's worth of elec, and proved how caring folk are
Night night, sleep tight, (((hugs))) all round

Good morning everyone.
My 5 for yesterday:
1) Browsed through recipes and made lists of dishes I want to try in autumn/winter
2) Listened to Woman's Hour while working
3) OH washed up dinner dishes
4) Started new book - The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
5) Found a brilliant crochet thread on here
Have a lovely day.0 -
1) It is a beautiful sunny day
2) Had an hour to kill before going into work (as I had forgotten about the floor in the office being cleaned) so sat and had a cup of tea in a cafe. It was lovely!
3) Harvesting Lavender and giving posies to my work colleagues. They were surprised, but pleased.
4) Managing to get some garden work done yesterday. It looks great after just giving the lavendar bushes a hair cut and mowing the lawn!
5) Planning to spend 15 minutes in the garden tonight. I want to see how much weeding and tidying I can get done in 15 minutes."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440
