Hi all
Mollythewestie congratulations for your sister's baby, and for you becoming an auntie!
CCP and Sparrer, Happy holiday to both of you, I hope you have a really fun time!
Welcome to Gingerjar, I am sure you will love this thread, everybody is really friendly!
Here is a bunch of pleasures from yesterday and today:
1 - Walking to take DH's shoes to repair, the shop was closed but I had a nice walk and....
2 - ....I spotted a plum tree on the side of the road (in a piece of un-fenced land) with a lot of plums just fallen on the surrounding grass. So I called my friend and we foraged enough to make a bit of jam and crumbles for both of us. She was worried because it said "private property" but there were no fences and the plums were obviously going to rot on the ground, so we took them and went away happy!
3 - Cooked dinner in advance of going to the allotment, 100% veg in the soup came from our back garden.
4 - DH and I managed to do a lot of work in the allotment, he built a frame to protect brassicas from pigeons (and cabbage butterflies in the spring). I weeded the courgettes and one of the empty raised beds and planted leeks (I hope the torrential rain that came after did not wash the baby leeks away!).
5 - As we were leaving we got very heavily rained on, so we came home soaked and jumped into a hot shower (not together, alas, as the kids were home). We remarked how fortunate we are to have a hot shower and wondered how we would have done it if we lived off-grid. We came to the conclusion that in that case we would have been more organised and had waterproofs to hand, though!
6 - DD made us cups of tea and jam sandwiches to warm us up after we got showered and changed.
7 - DD and DS took Ziggy to the vet, he took the drain off Ziggy's neck and pronounced him fit to be let out again and "take his revenge on the other cat" - I would not like to be in the shoes of the "other cat", as Ziggy is quite a powerful creature (even if I still see him as my little ginger kitten!)!
8 - This morning breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, mushroom and (homegrown) spinach omelette. Delicious!
9 - Long lie-in reading and drinking tea.
10 - Found a company that sells plug plants and they can deliver after I am back from holiday, so we can fill the brassica cage!
11 - Tonight we are invited to dinner by a friend, so I am off to bake some soda bread to take with me.
12 - Anticipating tomorrow's outing with DH, going to a green fair - if anyone in or around London is interested, here are the details:

Have a lovely Sunday and an even better Bank Holiday Monday! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
My 5 for today...
1. Singing in Church this morning. Hymns had a good bellow-ability factor and people said the choir sounded nice this morning.Nice of people to notice!
2. Sunshine, interspersed with rain. We do get some weather in this country, don't we?!
3. Sitting and talking with a new lady who has arrived at Church from the USA and waxing nostalgic on childrens TV programmes when I was growing up in Canada!
4. Lovely lunch of pork tenderloin and veg in a red wine and mustard sauce with brown rice. Yummy and Fast!!
5. Going to the movies tonight with my hubby to see "The Expendables"."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
1. Defrosting & repacking our big garage freezer and making an inventory of what we've got, which is far more than I've realised, and will feed us for weeks with some efficient menu planning.
2. Getting some gardening chores done in between the rain showers.
3. OH making an inpromputu microwaved Semolina & fruit pudding with some soft fruit freezer contents.
4. Yet another main meal eaten with vegetables from the garden.
5. Rain now splattering against the windows so going to settle for a post-lunch coffee and an enjoyable hour with my library book in a comfortable armchair. Going away for Bank Holiday breaks is nice but sometimes you can't beat the comforts of your own home.0 -
Been a rainy, grey day here..:(
1. DH has made a start on the next batch of Damson wine.:T
2. Got spoilt with scrambled eggs on toast and two mugs of tea, in bed. (((DH)))
3. Have made a start on clearing the loft. It's like a tip up there and we need to put down some new insulation. sorting things to sell, things to go to charity shops and things for the big recycling bins. Feeling much better now that we have made a start.
4. Watching Eastenders omnibus and some old Mr Bean shows. It's good to have a little chuckle.:rotfl:
5. Got a piece of beef silverside in the slow cooker with onions and carrots and gravy. Yorkshire puds and roasties to look forward to later.
Enjoy the rest of your Bank holiday everyone.:beer:Felines are my favourite

Evening
Sparrer - Hugs to you and your friend
Caterina - The green fair tomorrow looks interesting if the weather is good tomorrow may be tempted to take DD whilst OH is at golf.
Pleasures for today:
1. Cup of tea in bed made by OH. This is a vary rare treat indeed.
2. DD washing up, not through choice I must admit:D but still a pleasure as one less thing for me to do.
3. DD telling me I'm the best as I made her favourite brunch of Savoury sausage and bacon pancakes followed by some sweet ones.
4. Cup of tea in Waitrose with a reduced cake from their instore bakery
5. Enjoying a glass of wine and knowing I don't need to go to work tomorrow:T
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Again, thank you all for your lovely thoughts, I'm a bit of a bore about my DF I know. Will try to be more positive about the situation if I can..
Hope you enjoyed your lunch Gingerjar, it's nice to have a meal with family and somehow my Mum's cooking always tastes better than mine
Isn't it lovely to have flowers from your own garden zara? Definitely more special about that than buying them
The g;lass festival sounds interesting Frith, and the lentil and tomato soup sounds delish
Thanks house elf, savingforoz and Caterina, we're not going til Feb but I'm quite excited about it, haven't been anywhere really 'exotic' since my DF was in the forces
Kitchenbunny so pleased a bit of powder and paint - and some shiny shoes - brightened your day. I love the sound of the table centrepieces, what a novel idea
Well done on the Wii exercises GirlySquare, and levelling it out with the ham, egg and chips for lunch
Had a look at the link Caterina, it looks very interesting. Hope you had a good time there
Lovely to have hymns you can belt out crickett, pleased people complemented you on the singing. So they should!
Congrats on the finds during your freezer delving Primrose. I'm with you on the Bank Holiday thing, much nicer to stay home than sit in a 10 mile traffic jam on some motorway. Better to go away on 'ordinary' weekends
Oh dear parsonswife why do we hoard in the loft (and every other spare space) just in case we need something one day? Perhaps to save it all up to sell it! Hope you make lots of pennies when you do
Tealady bless your DD for appreciating your making her favourite pancakes, they do sound yummy . Never thought of making sausage and bacon ones, thank you for the idea
Hope everyone's mogs are doing well
My five -
1. A lovely sunny morning, just right for hanging out the washing. Trouble is I forgot to set the wm to turn itself on at 5am :doh:so have to wait til tomorrow to hang it out now!
2. A good lunchtime meeting with friends, a little too much cake and chocolate though
3. Popped into Mr M for a chicken, found the reduced shelf had some enchilladas which I'd not tried before. Had half for today's tea and can't wait for tomorrow's, they're delicious
4. A good downpour this pm, just long enough to ensure I didn't have to water this evening before the sun came out again
5. Martin Clunes Horsepower this evening
Night night, sleep tight

5 for today (Sunday).
1) Getting the house tidy while the boys were at their father's.
2) Walking to mum and dad's and back (about 6 miles or so).
3) Having lunch made by my brother!!!!!! His lurcher caught a hare yesterday so he had cooked it wrapped in bacon in a port, cream and plum sauce and he did some homemade chips in the deep fat fryer. We ate it watching the Grand Prix.
4) School friend coming here for tea.
5) Being entertained by MrN who has just gone. :-)0 -
Morning Everyone,
Hope your bank Holiday is going well.
Yeaterday
1. DS1 put in an appearance. Seems to spend all his time at other peoples houses!
2. This is definitely OS, but not v money saving........and whoever put the comment about blackberry vodka on this thread has to take some responsibility!:rotfl:.......Googled blackberry vodka http://http://mrsjoneshomethoughts.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-to-make-blackberry-vodka.html and DH got really interested, so just had to buy a bottle of vodka and go blackberrying. Our bottle of blackberry vodka is now sitting on the top of the freezer
3. Afternoon walk with the doggie and DH to go blackberrying. Especially nice as DH usually refuses to pick blackberries as they have spikes!
4. Shopping in Mr T to buy vodka! Managed to use £20 of vouchers to get shopping down to £30 :j
5. Making more HM yoghurt which I am going to seive and pot up now.
News from Reading festival - DD got squished at the front of the stage watching Pendulum and had to be lifted out by security. She is OK now, but sounded frightening at the time:eek: I shall be glad when she is home later
Happy hols. HE x0 -
