5 for Thursday!
1) Went to Malvern with my mum (and the boys). Went up a hill then looked round the 2nd hand shops. Got the boys T shirts for the PE kits for £1 each, they got a stack of tin soldiers (they love those) and I got a CD for 50p!
2) Had a letter from smaller son's paediatrician and I have to talk to him and the child psych in a week or so. They've written a report about him for school etc so that'll be interesting and has been a long time coming.
3) Oh yes, when dropping mum off at home again after our trip out, got a courgette and green beans from dad and borrowed some piano music from mum.
4) Felt suddenly very tired and down (well, I HAVE been very tired due to overthinking everything) but luckily my sister was back home yesterday to give me a talking to over the phone. Was told to have a bath then make some cakes so I did.
5) Neighbour (hereafter MrN) appeared as the cakes were coming out of the oven. :-)0 -
Rainy Wednesday - Please can you le tme know how you make gnocchi as DD loves it so would be good if I can make my ownRainyWednesday wrote: »I use this recipe, I couldn't believe how simple they were. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/basilgnocchiwithsimp_74596
There is a thread somewhere on the forum about gnocchi, I posted a full recipe but someone else posted that you can also make it with powdered potato for a short cut and apparently they work out well too - genius!
Edited to say: found it! https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1306263
While I am here I shal take advantage for entering my pleasures for the last couple of days:
1 - Trip to Paris with DD was a total success! I printed the tickets (for my future trip to Italy by train), then we went to the St Germain de Pres area which is a bit like Marylebone High St in London, full of quirky little shops and cafes, really nice.
2 - We visited the church of St Germain, it is such a beautiful peaceful great gothic place, we sat there and enjoyed the peace.
3 - On a market stall near the church I found and bought a lovely silver chain to go with the pendant that DH bought me for my birthday. Much cheaper than at the shops and I am glad I did business with a lovely individual woman rather than a faceless jewellery store-chain (sorry for pun!).
4 - Food was a humongous sandwich, fruit salad and a bottle of mineral water - they do not do "tap only" yet there, so I paid for the water and shuddup for a change!
5 - Back home in time to have dinner, cooked by DH, lovely veg chili with rice
6 - DH's nephew came to have dinner with us, we hadn't seen him since he was 5 years old and now he is a strapping 23 years old young adult, really lovely company. A very pleasant evening to top up a lovely day!
7 - Yesterday I managed to do all the washing that needed doing, tidied my bedroom and cooked a lovely dinner using lots of our own veg.
Hope everybody has a great day today xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
1. Dentist has cancelled my apointment for Monday, which means I now have a completely free day with family
2. Picked up a new shower curtain for £1 from carboot
3. The sun is shining
4. Got all the washing done, dried, iron and put away
5. No need to cook tonight - eating out at Quiz night0 -
We have been looking after our youngest grand daughter as she was ill yesterday. I think both OH and I will be sleeping well tonight!:D
1. OH foraged some crab apples for me to make crabapple and chilli jelly.
2. Managed to do and hang out 3 loads of washing on the line. It's all dry due to the fresh breeze here.
3. Took grand daughter to the park. She had OH spinning her around in the hamster wheel. I think she will be ill again tonight at this rate!
4. Bought her an icecream at the shop and foraged for blackberries on the way home, for OH to make wine.
5. I am really sore, but content now, after the walk and am having a rest and a few Paracetamol and watching Britain's Best Dish.:rotfl:.Felines are my favourite

Evening all.
I'm very sorry to say that my grandmother passed away in the early hours of this morning, so you may not be surprised to hear I'm a bit short on pleasures for today. I do have a few though, albeit not terribly OS ones:
1) Won £2 on a lottery scratchcard, which I bought a few days ago and had forgotten all about.
2) Picked four more tomatoes when I got home, and there are another half dozen which will be ready in the next day or so, including my first two big ones (all the ones I've picked so far have been cherries).
3) Thanks to a nice man at my mobile phone network's shop I have moved all my contacts over to my new phone, so I can go off and sell my old one. I could get about £50 last time I looked, which will come in very handy.
4) Very nice, very un-OS dinner planned for tonight - pizza and salad (both shop-bought), followed by ginger cake (also bought) and some stewed plums, with a couple of glasses of wine. Everything except the plums, which I already had, was on special offer or reduced to clear, though, so that's OK - right?
Four pleasures isn't bad, I feel.**********************
parsonswife - do you have a recipe for the crabapple and chilli jelly, please? My dad asked me the other day if I knew anyone who had a recipe as he's found some crabapples and fancies having a go at making some. Thank you!
inkie - it's nice to have another quiz night fan around. I hope you have a nice evening, and a good result at the end of it.
sparrer - I'm glad to hear your little dog's home, and I hope he feels much better now. (Particularly if the special diet costs that much!)
Have a pleasant evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Sincere condolences on the passing of your grandmother, CCP.

Evening all,
CCP -am really sorry to hear about your grandmother. My thoughts are with you at this trying time. Rest in peace Granny CCP.
1) My highlight of the day (besides leaving work!) was going to the pub at lunch time and had a nice burger and chips with a pint of cider! What a naughty treat!
2) Yummy supper of cottage pie from the freezer. I thought it wouldn't be very nice but it was really lovely.
3) Finished another square for my blanket
4) Started the morning by making some plum jam before going to work.
5) Just chilling this evening - The Simpsons followed by CSI followed by Masterchef
6) Nice lady came to collect my old veggie steamer which was on freecycle.
Nighty night.
LadyhawkMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Broomstick so pleased you're feeling a little better. Yum to dippy eggs, they always remind me of Saturday teas when I was young
duckeggblue I remember the BeRo cook books from way back when my mum used them - goodness it's an evening for reminiscing
Frith hope you're feeling less tired, you get such a lot out of every day but just now and again need to put your feet up and think of you. Clever Mr N to smell the cakes just at the right time
Caterina sounds like a wonderful day in Paris, one of my favourite places, and what a lovely welcome of dinner made for you, to come home to.
parsonswife grandchildren are tiring at times but what is it that makes time with them so special? Crabapple and chilli sounds interesting, do you use it as a spread, or as an accompaniment to something?
CCP sending thoughts and prayers for your family.
Ladyhawk you keep knitting the squares so fast that the blanket will be finished in no time!
my 5
1. A breeder friend phoned to suggest a well known dog food, very similar to the vets one, which a lot of them use for dogs with digestive problems. Bought some today, 6 tins cost very little less than the vet one, so I'll wean muttley onto that over the next few days.
2. Postie brought my gas and elec bills, I owe them £15 for gas but they owe me £38 on the elec one which I shall leave to help cover the winter bills. Sorry to mention winter
3. Shopped in the local Mr M's and got lots of bogof's etc, then realised after they were closed that I forgot to pick up the 2 savings stamps I'd paid for  . That wasn't a pleasure but I saved a lot more than £2 so will just have to cut my losses
4. Bought a little camper van money box - the real McCoy in cream and pale blue with split screen- while I was on holiday and made my first 'deposit' today toward getting the real thing in a year or two's time ready for my old age travelling days
5. Did some ironing. Not a lot, but better than I've done this week so far
Night night, sleep tight

(((((Hugs))))) CCP. I'm thinking of you.
Thanks Sparrer.
Five for today:
1. Waking up earlier than planned, getting a cuppa and going back to bed in peace and quiet to re-edit some writing that I haven't looked at for a while. It's reading very well.
2. Last day of DS2's fortnight-long course today - enjoyed hearing him talk about how everything has come together at the end.
3. Eating some of the plums we were given. I do like plums.
4. Chats on the phone with my mum and my youngest sister.
5. I'd forgotten about this as a pleasure this week but we've been experimenting with going the back roads to get home, rather than the rush-hour traffic jams on the usual A roads. We have been taking a different route each time and I've been discovering villages that I haven't seen before. Lots of the routes have been single track and delightfully slow with virtually no traffic which is lovely.
Sleep well
