1) Having a lie in. DH has been working 7 days a week for a while now (pity he does not get overtime - it's just expected) and I have got up with him and done jobs on Saturdays to keep him company so a true day off feels very good.
2) Brunch was Bloodbath Soup (beetroot stock and home grown veggies) with corn muffins. I cooked both yesterday so just had to get up and reheat today. HM flapjack to follow with yes, more Christmas walnuts thrown in.
3) Cut up a frayed shirt for patchwork and made a few squares.
4) Went for coffee date with OH and none of the cash machines in town seemed to be working. I still have to check up whether the bank has debited me the money that did not come out of the machine. Anyway, we passed our usual Big Issue seller and were going to give him our change as we did not have enough cash for the magazine but he insisted we took it and we could pay him the 50p later!
5) Roast chicken dinner wafting good smells out of the oven. All our own veg and if I can be bothered to get up soon, we could have our rhubarb in a crumble.
Sneaky 6) Ate my first plum off our tree today. I only put it in last Autumn! Very pleased.0 -
Hi all
CCP so sorry to hear about your Granny's passing. My thoughts are with you and your family. xxxPatchwork_Quilt wrote: »2) Brunch was Bloodbath Soup (beetroot stock and home grown veggies) with corn muffins.
A few pleasures for the last couple of days:
1 - Yesterday DD and I had a lovely massage treat (very cheap courtesy of a Mob deal!)
2 - Then we rang home and found that DS was having frozen pizza with a friend so we invited DH out and the three of us went for a cheap Chinese, lovely time had by all!
3 - This morning breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, his signature porridge dish (with raisins, nuts and syrup - Yummy!).
4 - Borrowed the van from our friends and took a lot of skip-scavenged wood to the allotment to build a cage for cabbages and other winter brassicas.
5 - Then we went to B&Q to buy some chicken wire for the sides of the cage and found some netting (for the top) out of a packet and no label. So I asked a sales assistant if I could have it as a clearance item and got it at 50% discount - RESULT!
6 - Lots of rhubarb picked up from the allotment, hopefully to be turned into rhubarb and ginger jam on Monday (because I am otherwise engaged tomorrow).
7 - Also quite a few plums from the communal tree in the allotment were ripe so I picked them up for jam (but will have to open them carefully because this year a lot of them had the bug inside!).
8 - Dinner on the cooker will be ready soon, with side dishes of runner beans and beet leaf from the garden.
Have a great evening everyone xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all,
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.
My poor kitty cat is poorly with a bladder infection. He has been weeing blood poor little thing. We went to the vet this morning but she didn't really tell me anything I didn't know already. I already had him on antibiotics so it was a bit of a waste of £35. Why does he always manage to get sick before I go on holiday?
1) Made some raspberry and redcurrant jam this afteroon. I have finally run out of jam jars!
2) Collected a briefcase from a freecycler - don't think it is actually suitable for me so I will list it again in a few weeks.
3) Not sure if this really was a pleasure... I made some custard cupcakes with my out of date custard and they were a disaster. Don't know what I did wrong - they had a firm layer at the bottom and a greasy crunchy layer on top... weird
4) Little snooze this afternoon
5) just chilling this evening watching NCIS and CSI,
Night all.
Sleep well

Ladyhawk-hope the antibiotics work soon for wee kitty.
My 5 for the last few days:
1 Had a really nice day at work today (and also got off on time, always nice.).
2 Have just made marrow, apple and ginger jam successfully-don't know where I found the energy to do this.I have 4 biggish jars and 3 small ones.I'd already made some marrow jam the other day, which was going well, until I burnt the jam!
3 I'm making spiced apple butter in the slow cooker for the first time.It sounds lovely.I'll know tomorrow...
4 Day off tomorrow
5 Enjoying the silence....
6 One more.Realising that I really need a holiday,only a few weeks to go.
Goodnight all.0 -

"Wee" certainly is the operative word!!! Poor mite!

Woosh! What a busy few days! Lots of pleasures.......
1. Wednesday I took DS2 to bus museum. We both enjoyed it, but on different levels. DS2 is just transport mad! I enjoyed the trip on a vintage bus round the village as it reminded me of going to primary school.
2. Collected some windfall apples at the picnic tables, while DS2 investigated the model railway track. He was disappointed that it wasn't running.
3. Thursday was a doing day.
4. DD collected her AS results and is OK to continue at College for another year.Well done to your DS Villagelife.
5. Friday took both sons and 2 of DS1 friends to Alton Towers as a belated birthday treat. DS1 and his friends were given free tickets by a lovely young man who had brought a youth group and had spare tickets. I did have half price vouchers, but bless him, that saved us about £60! And the rain stayed off!
6. Forgot DD had swim training this morning, and got woken with a start by DD at 5.15am! This was not a pleasure, but I took the dog for a walk while she went swimming and found some blackberries.
7. Sold enough stuff on EBay to cover the recent hair cuts, and got them sent off today. Spinning straw into gold. :rotfl:
8. Just taken Villagelifes Blackberry and Apple loaf out of the oven. It looks and smells lovely, which is unusual for my baking!:)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! HE x
PS Went to see The Sourcerers Apprentice on Orange Wed. Great entertainment!0 -
Evening all,
Not posted here for ages. Hope everyone is well, hugs to anyone who needs one. Stuff has been busy so I'm coming here to chill:
1. A cup of tea and some cakes from a lovely local bakers.
2. A mini kip this afternoon. This is becoming a bit of a habit at the weekend, ahh so what! I enjoyed it.
3. The dog knocking the car keys down from my chair in a Lassie come home kinda way, saying um are we going out or what?!
4. Seeing more tomatoes on the 'vine' - never grown them before. Have a feeling there won't be that many and it may be similar to that episode of the good life where they dress up for dinner and share an egg!
5. The cat calling me to go to bed. Sometimes I really do feel like Dr Dolittle.
Night all. :ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Evening all.
Patchwork, love the 'Bloodbath soup' name! Think I might encourage my two to start renaming all the meals we have on a regular basis to liven the menu up.
My five for today:
1. Re-read my writing again. Still finding a few corrections but I'm still really pleased with it.
2. Finding a long list of inspirational quotes on a recent (American) flylady e-mail, starting with Franklin D Roosevelt's 'When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on'.
3. Entered a couple of competitions for holidays - I don't usually do this but I think we are in need of one and there is no way I'll pay for one right now.
4. Went for a little drive just to get some space from the X-factor noise at homeand took a turning I'd not done before only to find myself in a parking place for a little country park I didn't know existed and I sat and watched the sunset and a hare playing and I think I spotted blackberries there too so I'll be back early next week.
5. The peace and quiet now that everyone has gone to bed.
Sweet dreams

had some bad news re my lovely Aussie in Beijing friend this morning but I'm thankful that he's in a good place and well cared for. Will see if I can find 5
1. knowing said friend will be beautifully looked after during this time
2. Even though he couldn't really respond I got to speak to him briefly via the 1p phone call.
3. Postie brought me a booklet and cd on relaxation...I might just need them after these past few days!
4. Tcut the car where some ******* had scratched it end to end on the passenger side. Fortunately the mark almost came out and is hardly noticeable. Just as an aside, I'm pleased I didn't throw that Tcut away, I nearly got rid when I moved here 6 years ago but it still worked fine. I hasten to add the only things I hoard are cleaning materials and food, with everything else if I haven't worn it or used it for 12 months it's out!
5. Finished the ironing.
Night night, hugs to all who need or just feel like one
