Evening all. Sorry I've been AWOL over the weekend - I went out early on Saturday to go to the local beer and cider festival, and spent yesterday feeling decidely less than sparkly - organic cider might be better for the environment, but it's no better for your head the next morning! :o

    Anyway, pleasures for today:

    1) Got some new waterproof shoes to wear to an outdoor concert I'm going to next weekend - reduced to £15 from £90. :)

    2) And got back to the office 5 minutes before the rain started coming down horizontally.

    3) Picked an entire box of HG tomatoes, of all shapes and sizes. :D

    4) Having abandoned my meal plan for the week, I'm going to have said tomatoes for dinner tonight, although I'm not sure in what form yet.

    5) Planning an early night tonight, after getting very little sleep last night thanks to some eejit neighbour who left the gate open in gale force winds. (And torrential rain, which is why I didn't go out and shut it.)

sandybeth and crickett1234 (and any other people who've joined over the past couple of days) - welcome to the thread!

sparrer - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. My thoughts to him and you.

Ladyhawk - I hope your poor puddy tat's feeling a bit better today.

GirlySquare - welcome to your two new puddy tats - they sound like a lovely pair. :)

savingforoz - I know what you mean about the smell of baking bread - it's such a delicious sort of smell, isn't it?

Hope everyone else is well, and hasn't got too wet and windblown today.

Back after a very long break!

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your concern about my Fee. Sadly it looks like he has bladder cancer so I am losing my boy only 6 weeks after Toupe. We are trying him on antibiotics and pain killers just on the outside chance it is an infection but it's highly unlikely. So that is put a dampener on a rather good day.

    1) Boss told me he wants to put me forward for company-wide employee of the year.

    2) Arranged drinks with a friend that I haven't seen in a little while for Thursday night

    3) Nice roast lamb sandwiches for lunch with tomatoes and lettuce from the garden

    4) Took some HM scones to work to have for morning and afternoon tea. I also took a small jar of HM jam to put on them.

    5) Having my boy back even if it is for a few weeks.

    Night night

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Marmite - does the apple butter come out like bought 'Apple and Pear Spread'? Do you think it would work with eating apples but no added sugar rather than Bramleys? I really like the sound of it and have surplus eaters at the moment.

I have a tub of Sunwheel Pear and Apricot 100% Fruit Spread which is a concentrated mass of firm jelly. If this is the kind of spread you mean, then,no,it is not like that. It's like a thick compote.
I could have left it longer on High, but was worried about it sticking;if I had,it would have reduced more.I'll have to try that next time.
The apples I used were Gravenstein, definitely cookers.I don't even know if you can get Bramley's outside of the UK.I'm sure you could use eating apples.I suppose you could put in slightly less sugar. The butter has a tart sweetness, but not too tart or too sweet IYKWIM.

    sparrer-how did the baking go?

Crickett1234-glad to hear that your Dad is improving.

Girlysquare-how are the little rascals?Did you get much sleep?

Patchwork Quilt-thanks for the recipe.Never tried anything like this before.

    My 5 are:

    1-I walked to work.

2-going to make some yoghurt tonight.

    3-Had a nice tea,all HM.

4-Have decided to try and wean myself off Coca Cola Zero, and drink more water.

5-Playing with my cat HRF Kira (Her Royal Furriness). She's very lively tonight.

    Have a good evening.

ETA Ladyhawke-such sad news.Glad that you have him at home with you.
  • Sparrer, my prayers are with your friend. huggs to all who need them.

Here are as many as I can find for the last few days.

The Doctors finaly know which bug the gunk on my lungs is growing (unfortunately It will be with me for life).

Consultant thinks sudamonus bug has been giving me grief for a while, but not showing up - which is a relief to know what might have been the cause.

Occupational Health has agreed to asess for hand rails etc - needed for when I get out from hospital.

Hubby has brought a lovely salad bar, bread rolls, fruit and chicken thighs in to hospital (I'm into week 5 of this stay and a 1 week menu rotation).

I'm learning a lot from the other ladies in hospital and made a friend I'll keep in contact with.

May be able to get home next Monday.

Daughter was eager to do some housework today - she wanted some baccie money.

Sorry to hear of your poorliness, Wogglemaker and about your poor cat, Ladyhawk and others' problems at the moment.

I am having a bit of a sad evening. I'm not very good at relationships. This is going to read as absolutely dreadful but I will explain after - my new man has his wife staying (!) She has been gone for over a year and has come to see the children who all live with new man. It is a bit weird to think of them sitting in their living room like in the old days. I don't think she knows about me yet but I nearly fell over my bigger son earlier on in my rush to get in my house incase she HAD been told and was cross :-( New man came earlier on to say hello (his wife had popped out) and she rang while he was in here having a cup of tea and I just felt as guilty as anything. Even though she is long gone.

Anyway, shall try and think of 5 for today.

    1) Had a good tidy this morning while the boys were at their father's.

    2) Went swimming with my brother for well over an hour. Did some "time trials" too but I'm not very fast anymore! My quickest length took me 25 seconds but my brother could manage 17 seconds without really trying.

    3) My sister popped in.

    4) Went for a walk at 7.30ish all down the footpaths to see bigger son's school friend who lives closest to us (so only 1.5 miles away!!) Was a lovely evening after all the rain and we saw bats, the same owl lots of times, found some pottery and heard the church bells ringing in the next village.

    5) Have found all my luminous juggling balls (1 missing for ages was under a kitchen cupboard) so am recharging them for some juggling when I'm in bed in the dark.

Hoping tomorrow is a less confusing day.
  • I hope things work out Frith.

    1) Managing to use up all my left overs - Bloodbath Soup again and risotto for tea with lemon meringue afters.
    2) Finding yet more bargains in the charity shop. Have now used up next month's allowance as well but you can't let a good one get away.
    3) Unloading my camera and spending a few minutes enjoying the pictures of our Godchildren coming over a couple of weeks ago.
    4) Getting out my crochet and odd balls of wool again. It's getting to the time of year when having/making a blanket on your knee seems appealing.

Can't think of a fifth but I've been sneaking six in recently so that's fair.

Hugs to all those that need one.

Ladyhawk I'm so sorry to hear about Fee, I think the poorly ones are sent to special people who can give the the best care and most love for their short lives. Thank you for your kind words re my DF, he made an informed decision not to have the cancer treated as he knows what the Alzheimers diagnosis means. I was cross/angry/upset at first but on reflection I'm fairly sure I'd make the same choice.
Woggle sorry your diagnosis wasn't better but at least you know for definite now what you're dealing with. Make sure you ask for everything you need from Occy Health in one go otherwise they have to come back and that can take an age.
marmite I made a carrot cake but didn't use courgettes (I'd put them in with a roasted roots dish before I remembered :o) so will try not to forget next time!
Frith you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about so don't! At the very least Mr N should have explained beforehand she was coming. Thinking of you and hoping it all turns out as you want, whatever way that is
CCP what a great bargain the shoes were. Hope you're over your cider tasting weekend now :D
sandybeth welcome and thanks for sharing your pleasures with us :)
Broomstick the country park sounds lovely with all that fruit and the teasels to collect. Last time I walked my dog in a teasel strewn area he came home wearing most of them and they took forever to get out of his long coat!
Tealady it must be fascinating finding out about your ancestors but I hope you didn't find any skeletons in the cupboard ;)

    my 5
    1. The forecast storm missed us, woke to a lovely fresh, sunny morning with just a hint of rain overnight.
    2. Had a domestic moment, washed down all the paintwork on stairs and landing then did all the skirting boards in the house, after which the mad moment left me. Phew, thought I was turning into a domestic goddess for a while, I can't think of anything more dull!
    3. Made two cakes, took one to a friend who did some mending for me and wouldn't take payment.
    4. nsd
    5. The 1p phone call

    Night night, sleep tight

    Morning

Ladyhawk - Sorry to hear about your cat hugs to you
Frith - Hope things work out for you with Mr.N as others have said you have nothing to feel guilty about
Wogglemaker - Hope you manage to escape from hospital soon and you are feeling better

    Pleasures for yesterday:
    1. I know I have my DD back as we had a busy lunchtime yesterday. Went to opticians to order new glasses for DD as she had lost hers (luckily these are free for her) plus bought her a new mobile phone as she had broken hers. Managed to buy one in Mr.T using the double up vouchers so only £15 in vouchers and £9 cash. This may seem a lot but because of the network she is on only certain phones work and this was by far the cheapest option.
    2. DD being very nice to me may be something to do with my 1 plus letting her have MSN. Needless to say I can no longer get on the computer on a night
    3. OH picking me up from work and having a quick drink in the pub on the way home
    4. Not very OS but decided to buy chips on the way home and had with some steak I cooked when got home. I bag feed all 3 of us
    5. I know I complain sometimes about DD but nice to have her home and have the banter of family life going on around us yesterday when all home.:D

Hugs to all who need them

Ladyhawk, I'm so sorry to hear about Fee. Hugs ((()))

    Yesterday's pleasures:

    1. Having a local estate agent come round to start the process of marketing my property. She seemed really pleasant and efficient.

    2. Having the last of my vaccination jabs. All done now (although it was hardly a pleasure!).

    3. Yummy curry with friends in the evening.

    4. Short day at work - always good!

    5. Simply can't think of a 5! Ah well...

Enjoy the rest of your day, everyone.
