Evening all,
Felix seems to be feeling ok today (ish) - he's just happy to be in bed with me. Little monkey kept waking me up in the night to say hi.
1) Had a little lie in as I was picking some colleagues up from the airport at 9am.
2) Made scones for the team meeting this morning. They were yummy with HM jam
3) Busy day with back to back meetings so the day flew by
4) Would have been a NSD but I booked my train tickets for my trip to France this weekend
5) Chatted to a friend who lives in Wales in Facebook. He is much older than me and lives happily with his girlfriend so there is no underlying motive... so it is really nice to chat wth him.
Night all... I'm exhausted!

PS Frith - don't feel bad about MrN. Just enjoy yourself!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all.
Ladyhawk - I'm so sorry to hear that Felix is unwell, but glad he's feeling well enough at the moment to be a nuisance.
sparrer - well done on your housework session - just don't let it become too much of a habit, OK?
Frith - as everyone else has said, don't feel bad - the situation is absolutely none of your doing. I hope today was less confusing, and generally better for you.
wogglemaker - it's always good to see posts from you.I hope you're feeling OK today.
Marmite - I love that 'HRF' - I think I'll be borrowing that, if you don't mind!
My pleasures for today:
1) Got my new hot water bottle, half price thanks to a tip from someone on the preparing for winter thread, and it's great - a super soft and furry cover, and a latex-free bottle so I don't have to wrap it in a tea towel whilst filling it to stop me having an allergic reaction to it. It's almost enough to make me wish for winter. :snow_laug
2) Received all the packaging to send my old mobile phone off for recycling, for which I'm due to receive £52. It might turn out to be a bit less as the battery's decided it doesn't want to hold a charge properly, but I should get something for it. :money:
3) Made potato croquettes for dinner. They weren't completely successful - several ended up in bits while I was cooking them - but they were pretty tasty for a first attempt, and there are enough for another couple of meals in the freezer.
4) Washed the croquettes down with a glass of wine left over from a bottle I opened before the weekend. I thought it might be off by now, but it was fine.
5) Looking forward to going away for the weekend, despite the miserable weather forecast.
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
CCP, your new hottie bottle sounds gert lush, as we say here in Brizzle!
Let's see if I can find 6 today, to make up for only finding 4 yesterday:
1. Really good day at work - got loads done.
2. Reading some great online fiction.
3. Yummy spicy pasta for tea - as usual, I forgot the pasta, but as it cooks so quickly was able to rectify that. Made enough for lunch tomorrow and another main meal.
4. Ate a whole large bar of organic dark chocolate. Good job I go to the gym so often..! Anyway, it was gert lush.
5. Seeing my house advertised for rent on the letting agent's website, at a much higher rent than I thought possible.
6. Ok, need to find that elusive number 6! I know - having a fun chat with my friend on the phone and arranging for a felafel pigout and a cinema visit this weekend.
Hugs to all that need them - Ladyhawk, will you give Felix Puss a kiss and cuddle from Auntie Savingforoz?Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Tealady congrats on getting your DD back, hope she enjoyed her holidays but looked forward to being home with you as much
Lola well done on the foraging...do I detect a yummy blackberry and apple crumble for tea?
Zara good for you getting the clothes you want in a sale. Bless your little mog, did you take a pic of him?
Ladyhawk it sounds as though you had another packed day, no wonder you were tired! hope you and Fee sleep well
CCP hope you get what you want for your phone. I quite like the bits that escape when I'm cooking, they always seem more tasty than the proper bits
savingforoz congrats on the good rent, hope you get someone nice asap.
my 5
1. didn't go too mad today, just washed the bathroom floor and showed the bedroom the duster. Well I did give the place a good clean before I went on hols and there's only me (plus the dog and the mogs) so it really doesn't get too dirty
2. Make a sc full of veggie topping for pasta, jackets etc. Turned out a tad too spicy as I picked up the chili powder instead of the paprika  but can counteract that by adding a dollop of low fat mayo on the final dish. Very yummy
3. The little African Violet my DB bought me some 4 years ago is in bloom again, having been drowned, droughted and dropped at various times...amazing little plant
4.nsd
5. A friend in for a cuppa this pm, she brought me a beautiful bunch of flowers
6. Had my phone bill, was surprised to see the 1p a minutes calls to Beijing weren't listed so can only assume they're included in my phone package. I've been phoning for several months now so hope I don't suddenly get a big amended bill!
Night night, sweet dreams

Hiya,
Somehow I managed to miss posting yesterday's five so here's five for both days.
1. My forgetfulness was probably caused by the fact that yesterday I was overcome with relief that my car has survived another big service and its MOT without needing too much work but I have got everthing that needs to be fixed done ready for the winter AND (this is a really lovely bit) my wonderful friend in the USA has covered the bill. :j:T
2. DS2 tackled a washing up mountain in the kitchen. Really helpful.
3. I'd reserved the little half-price wind-up radio in our local Argos that someone had mentioned in the 'Preparing for Winter' thread (it was the last left in our area) and I went and bought it today. I used £5 from my Nectar card points so it only cost me £2.99 and it works a treat - gets Radio 4 beautifully. Really useful to have in for powercuts let alone other electricity free listening.
4. The torrential rain starting, then finishing just as suddenly with brilliant sunshine.
5. Getting my writing to finished final draft form and e-mailing it out to a couple of friends to read.
Sweet dreams

Morning
Pleasures for yesterday:
1. DD bringing the washing in while I was at work so it didn't get wet when the rain started
2. DD doing the washing up (can you tell she is trying to pay off her new mobile phone still)
3. Dinner of gnochhi (not tried the homemade version yet) with a bolognaise sauce
4. Getting all the toiletries I needed to buy in Boots on special offer plus with extra points on them all:money:
5. Watching the Great British Bake off on BBC2
Hugs to all who need them.
CCP - Where did you get your hot water bottle from. I'm allergic to latex as well so would be good to get a latex free one for winter.0 -
Sparrer - We had an african violet that had been in a house with a cat that hated it (It used to tip it out of its pot everytime it sauntered past the windowsill!). Mum took it on and nurtured it to blooming good health. And then our Labrador used to "prune it" by eating some of the leaves and flowers! The plant grew like mad and ended up as a very lovely mature specimen. I think you need to treat em mean!!
My 5 today:
1. Dad is being moved (probably in transit now) from London Hospital to Salisbury Hospital which is closer to Mum and Dad's flat. This is great because Mum can have her own things around her and stop living out of suitcase which she has for 2 weeks so far.
2. Have found an absolutely excellent thread on this forum (yet another one!) which has totally inspired me.
3. I am supping a lovely fruit infusion which smells all fruity and lovely (Cranberry, Strawberry and Raspberry! Numm!)
4. Hubby is out at a meeting tonight, so I get some time in the house to myself. Love him though I do, it is nice to have some space to me occasionally!
5. Have got on well with the tablecloth for Mum and Dad's Christmas present, and one part of the pattern (there are four around the cloth) is almost done!I intend on doing more of it tonight.

Evening all.
Well, I don't know what it's like where everyone else is, but the weather's utterly foul in Portsmouth tonight! So, some very indoor pleasures:
1) Phoned my new mobile phone network to query a charge on my first bill. It was a bit complicated, but basically they had charged me for a call I thought was covered by my inclusive minutes - they thought they'd told me I'd be charged but, as they hadn't, they cancelled the charge. Nice company! :T
2) Got a couple of decent bargains in the surprise M&S sale. (And the sale was such a surprise that the lady who served me at the till didn't know there was a sale on until I told her!)
3) I mentioned at work that I'm planning on making tomato ketchup, so one of my colleagues gave me a bag a slightly squashed tomatoes that she hadn't been able to give away, and has promised me all the other split and damaged ones from her plants for the rest of the summer.
4) Changing out of my soggy clothes when I got home. I only had to walk from the office to the car - less than 5 minutes - but I was drenched by the time I got there.
5) Sitting watching the rain falling on my garden - it's quite fun to watch when I know I don't have to go back out in it!**********************crickett - that's great news about your Dad moving to a hospital nearer your Mum - that must be making her life so much easier.
Tealady - my bottle came from the Boots website - here - and it looks like there are still some available, as long as you don't mind a furry cover on it.
Have a pleasant - if soggy - evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi all
Missed a couple of days because when I am at work I spend 8 hours on the computer and then cannot bring myself to switch mine on at home - and because at work I face the wall (so the pc screen is visible to all who pass by) I cannot surf at leisure (worse luck!).
Sparrer, sorry about your friend, but glad he is being cared for well.
Woggle, hope that you get better soon and now that you know what the problem is your health care givers can help you in the best possible way.
Ladyhawk, I had posted a get well wish for your Fee but just re-read the thread and saw the latest news, and had to come and change my post to you. I am so sorry and sincerely hope that your poor pet's outside chance of infection comes out to be the case, and not the cancer.
Tealady hope you enjoy the gnocchi
Thanks to all who posted recipes, I keep meaning to make new food not yet on my repertory and this thread is such an inspiration!
Warmest hugs to all who need comforting.
Here is a random batch of pleasures:
1 - The rain means I do not have to trek it to the allotment every night to water the plants, or even in the garden.
2 - One of our cats, Ziggy, had a great big lump in his neck and we feared the worst, but thanks goodness it is just an abscess. He was operated on today and the vet said that he will recover well and there is nothing to worry about. We all worried terribly until we found out and are very glad for the happy outcome.
3 - I have a whole week to stay home as I am going to do a few hours work from home and then I have done my week!
4 - Next week I go back to work on 1 day only (Weds) and then it is HOLIDAY TIME for me - going to Italy with DH for 2 weeks!
5 - Not too OS I am afraid, but I bought myself a few books from Amazon - at least they are about frugal living etc, one is even about someone who lived for 1 year without money!
6 - Last night we had a family night, only the 4 of us (DD's BF did not stay over) and the dinner was almost completely made of home-grown veg: courgettes (h/g) with onions , green beans (h/g) and fresh borlotti beans (h/g) in tomato and sage (h/g) sauce, steamed beet leaf (h/g). All accompanied by delicious Italian bread that I buy very cheap near my work place.
7 - DH just came back from work and made me a peanut butter (homemade p/b from this forum recipe!) sandwich and a cup of tea as I was starving and gagging for a hot drink. Good man!
8 - I have already cooked a batch of dried soya chunks, ready to turn into a nice simple stew, to be eaten with couscous and tomato salad - so dinner is sorted, the rest of the family are going to finish cooking it.
9 - Can't wait to relax with one of my new books and a cup of white tea (bought at a discount yesterday and not yet tried).
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
