  • I like to serve gnocchi with a nice pasta sauce - I like tomato based sauces using a trusty tin of value toms, garlic and onions.
  • I had never thought of gnocci as a side dish!! (what a good idea!)

I often serve it in a cheese sauce with some / all of: bacon/pancetta pieces, broccoli, cherry toms, peas, mange tout etc...

  • My husband does it with a nice tomato and blue cheese sauce. Very simple, tinned toms warmed through, and then to taste chunks of blue cheese just melted in and then mixed in with the gnocchi.

    I do it like this:

    1. cook the gnocchi
    2. wilt a bit of spinach and fry off some mushrooms and onions and pine nuts
    3. mix it all together in a lasagne type dish with creme fraiche
    4. sprinkle with grated cheese
    5. bake til top s bubbling
YUM Havent had it for ages. And now I am hungry

I agree. As with all Italian cooking - keep it simple.

PS. Also, gnocchi is very filling. I once did it with some tortellini. Big mistake. Never again.

I recently bought a pack of gnocchi which I know is mainly potato based and I know it is normally eaten with a sauce of some sort. I have never eaten it but I am making a beef casserole for dinner this evening and havn't prepared any potatoes. I was wondering if I could stir it into the casserole in the last few minutes or so?

Has anyone else tried this, and if so how long should they be in the casserole for?

  • They would probably taste great with your casserole but I would cook them as per the instructions ie. a couple of minutes in boiling salted water until they rise to the surface. If you put them into the casserole to cook you could end up with horrible squishy dough.

OK, thanks for that, I will cook them first then stir them in when I dish up. Thank you so much (we are eating in a few minutes and I forgot to do the spuds!)
