They were very very nice indeed. Loads of compliments from the family so will be on my shopping list again for future meals. I don't normally do dumplings because of all the faffing about with suet and what not, but this is an extremely easy and tasty alternative! yumyum:D

I love gnocchi.
Easy to make too (and more OS than buying them, I guess).
Incidentally, if you do buy them, I find the long-life ones (vacuum packed near the rice) are just as nice. And you can freeze them too.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I make them with 'ageing' potatoes. It's a good way of extending a potato's shelf life.
Serves 4
500grams mashed potato
180grams plain flour
1 egg, beaten.
1. Mix the mash potato and the flour and half the egg. If it's a bit dry, add some more of the egg.
2. Using your hands, roll the potato mixture into a long sausage shape. Using a teaspoon, cut into 2-3cm pieces.
3. Press the back of a fork into each to make a pattern.
They only take 2-3 minutes to cook from fresh. They rise to the top of the water when they're done.
They're easy to freeze. Just lay them out on a baking tray and freeze overnight. When you want some, throw them into boiling water - no need to defrost.
Kind regards.:hello:0 -
Gnocchi is lovely when cooked in boiling salted water, then drained and mixed with a spinach and ricotta cheese sauce and topped with some grated parmesan and then baked in the oven until the cheese melts.
Yum!

Not entirely sure what it is really. Tesco describe it as 'Fresh Italian potato pasta dumplings' which doesn't make much sense to me!
But, what could I do with it for cheap? Tesco are selling 500g bags of the stuff for £1... and I'm on a budget
Is it worth getting some?Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

You can boil it in some salted water for a few minutes, drain it and place in an oven proof dish. Season with a bit of salt and pepper, pour some cream over it and sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake in a moderate oven until cheese starts to bubble and melt.
Oherwise, do the same but use a cheese and chopped spinach sauce instead of the cream and grated cheese.

Great easy food that kids love!
Try adding cubes of ham or bacon (I like a thick smoked bacon steak), baby tomatoes (whole), afew chopped peppers, mushrooms or onions - cook quickly in a wok or fry pan.
Cook gnocchi in salted water, drain, rinse, mix in with other ingredients. Put in a greased ovenproof dish - liberally cover with grated cheese.
Cook gently in the oven until golden & bubbling - serve with salad or garlic bread.
MoamAlthough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

I love gnocci. It's lovely with chicken and a cheese sauce. As said, treat it like pasta, but it's really potato and flour dumplings. A wee bit like tattie scones. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
