Tealady how lovely when a teen shows their affection naturally, hope there will be many more occasions!
Oops jollymummy, I had to laugh at your DH's comment about the cordial - just as well you have a sense of humour or he'd be dead meat by now :rotfl:
Hope you're feeling brighter today Broomstick. What a lovely copper to warn you re traffic wardens, the young ones like to show their authority a little too much at times but seems you met a very fair one :T
Hi beingfrugal, it just goes to show that OS methods are more often than not better than things that come wrapped in plastic. Sensible daughter
Sending get well vibes kitchenbunny, hoping your headache is going, or better still has gone, now. Justa thought, what about a trip and lunch on a steam train, I think some companies do that or include some other attraction on the trip.
So pleased you found your Grandmother in reasonable health CCP, she sounds like she's got a great sense of humour. Good for you having a lie-in, after all that travelling, walking etc yesterday you must have needed it
I love gardening nuttybabe, but might not if I had a much bigger plot than my 20' square. Congrats on the hairdressing savings, they can be a bit of a rip-off sometimes
Sorry to hear you've not been up to par Ginger Snap, good for you managing to get out with your DC and for resisting the candles, I don't know if I could have done
My 5
1. After having my car valeted on Thurs, next doors BF sprayed it with a hose last night when he was chasing their children with it..I was [STRIKE]livid[/STRIKE] somewhat annoyed, like most I have to watch the pennies and I can't manage the car myself now. I took it back to the valet place today and explained, and they did the outside for me again, only charged me £3 and stamped my card which they usually only do if it's a full valet. :j(six stamps gets a free valet). There are some really nice people about
2. While I was waiting for the car I went across to £stretcher where they had mini terracotta wall hanging planters for 99p each. There's an expanse of brick wall where the old shed stood, the ideal place for the 3I bought. They're just right for growing enough herbs for me
3. No rain again, that's over 2 weeks now, but I quite like watering as it gives me two trips round the garden in a day, the other is when I'm having my morning cuppa
4. Really fancied some chips this evening but all the chippies are closed on Sundays so I was very good (for a change) and had hm oven chips. So much nicer than those horrid skinny, tasteless things the burger places sell.
5. A kind freecycler gave me a sim card so I'll buzz over to the board which has details of the Orange Wednesday deal
Night night, sleepy tight

Hi all
A few random gratitudes and pleasures before going to sleep:
1 - This morning I walked the Race for Life in Blackheath (5K). Perhaps next year I shall be able to jog it instead!
2 - Lovely lovely weather still here, I am soaking up the sun!
3 - DH and I came back tired from the allotment and whinging that we still have to water front and back gardens but found that lovely DD's BF had done it for us, great guy!
4 - And DD had cooked! We are truly blessed with these young people around us.
5 - Spent a bit of time uploading my Race for Life photos (that DH took) and managed to put them on my facebook page.
6 - I seem to have found a very good cleaner and she is a seamstress, too (let's hope it works!).
7 - The lovely long hug that DS gave me spontaneously this afternoon. I was so moved I had tears in my eyes!
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
gingersnap - How did you resist half price Yankee Candles , I couldn't have!
ladyhawk - Glad furbabe turned up safe and well.
I have been so busy this weekend, this is the first chance I have had to catch up.
Here are my weekend OS pleasures:
- Had an opticians appointment on saturday and even though I need new glasses, it is because my shortsightedness is getting better and my current specs are too strong! I also used a £25 off voucher the opticians had sent me, so the bill wasn't as bad as it could have been.
- Didn't have a takeaway on saturday as planned, but used what we had in the fridge to make beef stir fry instead.
- Spending sunday giving the front garden a complete clean and tidy. I got rid of all the weeds and old plant pots that have seen better days, swept the paths and DH painted the handrail while I washed down all the UPVC doors and windows.
- Went shopping for DDs birthday presents and managed to get nearly everything discounted or on sale, mostly from Early learning centre. We also got one of these retro toy telephones from Asda for £4.97 which takes me back to my childhood as I had one exactly the same!
- Getting lots of inspiration for new recipes in the new Good Food magazine.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

7. Celebrated with family yesterday with HM cake,HM sconesHMjamHMbiscuits HMstrawberry jelly etc etc was a lovely birthday tea."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
1) Home made soup and gluten free bread for lunch. I used the little packs of butter we brought home from our brunch too.
2) A colleague had a tray of lemons that she can't use up so she sold me 10 for 20p each. DD suggests lemon curd. I think she could be right.
3) Came home and thought I was going to be on my own for tea but the teenagers and their girlfriends/boyfriends are turning up gradually so it's a family meal after all. I'm glad.
4) DD and her bf are both having a face mask in the bathroom. What are they like?
5) Compliment from a friend at work and a promise to get together. We don't go out any more. It's too expensive. Either I go over for a coffee or we meet at their house (small children) for a meal. They do the main course and we bring wine and desserts.0 -
Hi all
Quickly before going to cook dinner:
1 - Freebie from Grazia mag at the Origins counter in Selfridges
2 - Because of DH's new job I can now travel free on the Underground
3 - Work was ok and the time went quite fast
4 - DD and DS have agreed to take the cats to the vet tomorrow (so we can do something about the invasion of cat fleas!)
5 - Gnocchi with tomato sauce tonight for dinner, can't wait!
6 - DH and I are going together to water the allotment (I love it!)
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening, everyone (((hugs))) Hope you've had a good day. Mine's been ok. Here are my pleasures for today:
1. Being given a big bag of rhubarb yesterday, and I'll make a couple of bags of crumble filling tonight. Mmm, rhubarb...
2. Being given a bag of dried mango pieces by a colleague who didn't like them.
3. The bus wasn't too crowded on the way home.
4. Having lost 3lb since yesterday (according to the Wii Fit)
5. Taking a lot of books and some shoes to a charity shop. The assistant was really grateful and it gave me some warm feelings.
Right, spaghetti bolognese for tea, with loads of veggies in. And that'll make leftovers tomorrow night - bolognese toastiesMmm... I'll start cooking in a bit but I think I'm entitled to a bit of a sit down first! I've done 15 minutes of aerobic workout game-things on the Wii and while I'll need a bit of a wash tonight I feel tired and healthy in a good way.

Evening all.
zarazara - happy birthday!Hope you had a lovely day.
Patchwork Quilt - WD on your lemon bargain, and - mmm, HM lemon curd .
Acey - hope everything went OK today. My fingers are crossed for you.
Ginger Snap - hope you're feeling even better today than you did yesterday.*********************
I've been feeling really tired and run-down today, and seem to have left all my energy in south London. At least I'm now feeling hungry for my dinner - I haven't had any appetite for the last day or so, which is very worrying for me.
Let's see if I can find five pleasures for today:
1) Making a fuss of next door's cat when I caught him trying to break in through my kitchen window (I'm not sure why he was trying to break in). I made sure my cat wasn't around first, of course.
2) Found some old, sprouty potatoes that I'd forgotten about, and was about to throw them away when it occurred to me to plant them instead. Hopefully I'll have some nice HG tatties for the autumn now.
3) Hearing that I've been selected to do a taste test on a new variety of pear. It makes a nice change from doing taste tests on crisps and cake - here's a test I can do without feeling guilty about eating naughty stuff.
4) My mum's found a new herbal supplement that's supposed to help with sinus problems and has offered to buy me a pack to see if it does.
5) Being far enough ahead with my studying that I can afford to take an evening off tonight - I'm really not at all in the mood for studying.
Hope everyone else is having a good day.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi Everyone
I'm new to this board so hope you don't mind me joining in! (Usually frequent the ebay board but have been reading your posts for the past week.) My doctor has recently diagnosed me with depression and as suffering from anxiety attacks (directly related to my work environment) and he said I needed to slow my life down and concentrate on the better aspects of my life so I thought writing them down with you guys would be an excellent start? Again hope you don't mind as you seem to be such a tightknit group!
1. Waking up with OH this morning, he works shifts and I work typical 9-5 job so it's very rare we are going to sleep and waking up with each other
2. The weather has been very nice down here, without being too hot!
3. Being taken seriously by my GP with regards to my anxiety attacks (the last GP I saw basically said I was mental....:rotfl:)
4. No bills today
5. Went for an afternoon nap at approx midday (have had some trouble sleeping lately) woke up at 5 o clock without being disturbed!

Welcome Karley!
I think I'll speak for everyone on this thread when I say we certainly don't mind you joining us - I love reading other people's pleasures, and it's the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.
I hope this thread helps you note the nicer things in life, and that you feel much better soon. E-hugs for you!
Oh, and  at your previous GP - how can some doctors be so insensitive? My sister suffers from occasional bouts of an eating disorder, caused by depression, and one doctor she saw told her to 'just eat more'. That's really helpful, I don't think!Back after a very long break!0
