savingforoz wrote: »CCP - any chance of the pakora recipe?
I'm afraid it's one of my usual 'recipes', where the recipe I started with has very little to do with what I eventually make.
I started with this recipe, but made the batter a bit thicker and used finely chopped / sliced veggies rather than whole slices as I was trying to recreate the pakoras from my local Indian takeaway. I also only made half the quantity, as there's a limit to how many pakoras one person can eat, and there's no room in the freezer at the moment for any extras.
I dry-fried the pakoras in a frying pan rather than deep-frying as I thought that would be healthier - it was, but made them a bit heavy-textured so next time I'll use more oil to try and get them crispier. (Next time will be tomorrow lunchtime to use up the leftover batter, so I'll let you know if it works.)
GirlySquare - I'm glad you had a nice time in London. It sounds like you fitted a lot into a few days - you must all be worn out!
jollymummy - looks like your mum has us all beaten on the tomato plant front! I can't imagine finding room for 83 tomato plants, or for the tons of fruit you'd get off them!
ACEY - it's my birthday at the end of this week, too.Happy birthday in advance!
Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening, everyone.
My Five-a-day are:
1. Finding a penny.
2. Finding an old scratchcard in my drawer with a £1 win! Always a bonus.
3. The sunshine. Even though it was hot, the sunshine was beautiful. Even now I can hear a magpie chittering away.
4. Realising I'd accomplished one of the things on my Life To Do List. I love the Yorkshire Moors!
5. Finally bringing my cherry tomato plant back from work. I knew I'd never get it home, so Mum is going to raise it for me. Bless her, she even said I could have some if I wanted!
It's just been a busy but sunny day here. What with the World Cup looming in the background and the tennis happening, there don't seem to be any decent food offers on, and the Budget is making me want to tighten my purse strings a bit more. However, we did go shopping tonight and some of the "luxury" items I don't normally buy - i.e, coconut ice cream and some divine Lindt Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt (don't go eww until you've tried it!) made it into the trolley. Sometimes, you just have to...
Have a lovely evening, everyone. I hope to read everyone's posts thoroughly soon and properly catch up. ACEY - (((HUGS))) to you for the stressful weeks ahead. We're with you.

Hello all. (((((Acey))))) hugs for the next few weeks from me as well.
My five for Tuesday:
1. Am loving the coolness of the kitchen and the warm breeze that blows through it with the back door and windows open. The stone floor which was soooo cold last winter has really come into its own now.
2. Drying a couple of loads of washing on the line very quickly. I put the jamas I was wearing in the wash this morning and now they smell gorgeous to put on tonight.
3. Vegbox arrived together with a freebie cookbook (a proper one not a booklet). The firm have a promotion on at the moment for people who've returned to getting a regular order and the book is a treat.
4. Organic tomato and basil omelette, new spuds and green salad for supper - really simple and delicious.
5. Emailed the council to get put on the allotment list - long wait ahead but at least I'm in the queue now.
Sweet dreams.

1) I'm back! I haven't seen our laptop since DD and DS started revising but it's all over now. So that's two in one really.
2) Risotto for tea. We all love it and it uses up the chicken stock and scraps of meat nicely.
3) Phone call from a friend to thank us for the elderflower cordial we sent over the other day. She says it's not too sweet, which is funny because DH won't drink it because he thinks it is.
4) Quick drink and a chat with a former colleague at her house after work. It's so relaxing to have a cuppa before going home and putting the washer on etc.
5) Doing a little bit of gardening before tea. I will have a vegetable patch one day.0 -
evening all
have my bedroom windows wide open enjoying the cool air. DH still not home thurs eve hopefully.
( computer playing up so i am dispensing with all capital letters, sorry)- the house is sooo quiet its lovely no traffic noise just silence.
- dd2 was very well behaved and tried really hard this eve to get all her jobs done, she was just losing the plot but i persuaded her to go to bed and she went out like a light, oh to be a teenager!!!!
- the sun shone all day and we had a lovely breeze as is often the gift of living by the sea.
- got all my ironing done and hung out washing in the dark it might be dry by breakfast???
- makng the decision to put my green suede coat in the pound box at work i havnt worn it for years and it was just hanging in dh wardrobe now someone else can have the pleasure for £1.
big hugs:)

I think most of us will be worse off nuttybabe, it's pretty well aimed at the poor and the pensioners, but nothing new there. All politicians should be made to change places with us for a month, not a few days like these silly documentaries, then they'd find out what the real world is all about. Okay, off my soapbox
. Re mars bars, I find them too sweet to eat more than a half but show me a block of cheese and I'm like a family of mice
Absolutely agree with you CCP my garden is yellow and white, all sunshiny and cheerful :j
Good for you jollymummy - though you should have got someone to take a picture and send it to the local press. Some councils deserve to be named and shamed after all the money they take in CT and so forth, then won't do a simple, and sensible, thing like cutting back an overgrown path by a busy road
My 5
1. Up early, line dried the sheets and towels by 11am and got the next load hung out. Where does it all come from? There's only me so I swear the laundry imp fills my linen bin in the night
2. Had a good think over the past couple of days and have decided to pave the old shed site and pot grow veggies next year. Feel a lot happier now I have a definite plan and raring to get going
3. Did my monthly shop in Mr A, came to £58 with lots of whoopsies and a couple of reduced tee tops as well so not too bad. It doesn't include fresh veggies or milk (get them at the local farm shop) but everything else inc food for a dog and 2 cats.
4. Whoopsied tikka for dinner, already had some whoopsied peshwari naan in the freezer so total cost £1.30. Beats the take away
5. Enjoying the light evening, sat out chatting with neighbour until almost 10pm.
Night night sleepy tight

my five are
1. A lovely day and taking time to water the garden at 10.00 last night and it was still a lovely temperature.
2. Watching cake boss which DS2 had recorded. Its an American programme about a shop which makes fantastic cakes.
3. Having homegrown salad leaves for lunch.
4. DS2 cutting the grass - he had been asked daily for a week but did it while I was at work.
5. Meeting a friend and having a catchuo while walking the dog.0 -
Morning all,
My five for yesterday:
1- a beautiful dress, a denim skirt, a sunhat and a woven bag all thrifted for my holiday wardrobe.
2 - thrifted a 1950s coffee table for 50p to go in our bedroom
3 - homemade taco soup from the freezer for lunch, a halloumi salad made of leftovers for tea
4 - great deal of satisfaction gained from watering the microgarden on the balcony
5 - started making cushion covers for the bedroom from thrifted silk scarfs and a thrifted cord skirt
Have a lovely day. Fingers crossed for the football x:beer:0 -
Hello,
Haven't popped in for a while but felt the need to list my pleasures today:
1) Not at normal worl place today - had to go and deliver training in Brighton, was nice to have a change of scenery and see old work mates I haven't seen since Christmas.
2) MD of the company sat in and observed my training session - I had no idea this was going to happen until I arrived...it all went really well and I was super happy!
3) Free lunch paid for by the company
4) Finished at half 1 so was able to come home and see pup and work from home for a few hours.
5) OH popped in at 3pm as all his colleagues have gone to watch the football, but he's not interested so took the opportunity to come and see me and pup!!
Hope you're all having a lovely day!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
