5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Afternoon, everyone. Sorry it's been a couple of days but we've been up at a bike rally in North Yorkshire and I've not been about.
Had a great time though and even though it was a good time I have definitely missed my bed as opposed to a very flat airbed. Anyway here's my five for the day:
1. Doing a spot of gardening. It was only an hour or so of weeding, but the place does look better.
2. My bed! I got a lay in this morning thanks to a day off and boy I needed the sleep. It feels good to be warm.
3. Getting more sewing done.
4. Getting a mealplan and a shopping list done.
5. Making a risotto for lunch.
Not a lot on today. I'll do a shepherd's pie for tea a bit later and otherwise just take it easy.Have a nice day everyone.

Evening, all.
jollymummy - I know exactly where you're coming from regarding the public sector thing. I work in the public sector too, and feel myself starting to seethe everytime a politician starts spouting on about public sector fat cats - there may well be people who are seriously over-paid, but I've never met one - all the people I've met are like your husband and work very hard for much less than they would make doing the same job in the private sector. I really hope the budget's not too hard on you.
Tealady - I hope you have a lovely time at Wimbledon. One of my friends went last year on free tickets and raved about it for weeks.
ACEY - hugs to you at what sounds like a bad time.
wssla00 - LOL at your over-abundance of tomato plants! I can beat you - I've got ten - but then I like tomatoes. I think I might have a few too many, though, and am already making arrangements to offload some of the surplus to colleagues at work. :rotfl:
My pleasures for today:
1) Decided to take Wednesday afternoon off work to watch the England match. Luckily my manager was off sick today - I know that sounds mean, but it meant her deputy signed my holiday request and, as she's also taking the afternoon off to watch the football, it meant my request was agreed instantly.
2) Planted out my last two tomato plants, plus two chilli plants (one hot, one mild). That really will have to be it for veggies this year, as I can't find room for any more tubs or growbags.
3) Dug up my HG potatoes - it's not a bad haul, either.
4) HG potatoes for dinner tonight, with bacon and egg in a warm salad. Yum!
5) Watching my cat attacking my pretty catnip plant. I actually bought it for ornamental purposes, but it's so funny watching him wildly tearing off leaves that I can't bring myself to object.
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening folks, its such a gorgeous sunny one!
Its been a good day, despite OH still having no work, and my pleasures for today are:
1. Drove to Dyrham Park to use our new NT membership. The house is set in acres of sweeping parkland and we walked down the valley from the carpark to the house and gardens rather than take the courtesy bus as it was such good weather.
2. Sat underneath a willow tree beside the lake in the gardens and ate our whoopsied Mr.M's danish pastries and drinking our free coffee from a flask. It was so very peaceful watching the coots building their nests and listening to the baby coots happily chirping as they dived under the water.
3. When we walked back up the hill to the car later, we stopped to eat our lunch under another tree and enjoy the view of the house beneath us. A herd of inquisitive cattle surrounded us (in a nice, friendly way) and blew softly down their wet noses! We then saw a family of fallow deer just yards away running and jumping across the parkland, with babies in tow. It was all very magical!
4. After tea (whoopsied pizza and salad) I persuaded OH to walk around the field behind the house to get some exercise. It was a beautiful evening and we met a lovely lady, who we know from down the road, walking her three dogs. DD was summoned form indoors to say hello (she is a great friend of this lady) and she gave the doggies lots of cuddles. OH got his remote control car out and the dogs happily chased it around the field!
5. Have been really enjoying my new book about money saving etc. It is really about changing your whole outlook on life in order to be happier. I have picked up several things already from it that have made a real difference. This thread is just what the doctor ordered and encourages me to look for the small pleasures and immerse myself fully in the moment.0 -
Evening all
Mine for today
1. Leaving for school run on time :j
2. A lovely walk into town this morning in the sunshine
3. Cleaned the kitchen and hoovered downstairs
4. Made another batch of gloop today
5. Had a bit extra money in my account, my mum sold another sock monkey and transfered the money straight away!!! :T
Have a good evening everyone0 -
Ginger Snap, apologies if you have already posted this, but what is the name of the money saving book you're reading?
Your cat sounds so cute, CCP! It is so funny to see them all zonked out on catnip.
My 5 for today:
1. Setting up my swish new mobile phone. First impressions are that it's a doddle to use and so much more stylish than my old one. OK, not very moneysaving, but my old one wouldn't have worked in Australia and South America. Honest.
2. Spicy peanut stew for tea with rice and broccoli - something I've not tried before, and it was a recipe made up by me in order to use up an old bag of peanuts. Very yummy it was too.
3. Short day at work, so I escaped early into the lovely sunshine.
4. Seeing my financial advisor, who is a hoot, and getting stuff sorted on my pension.
5. Yummy homemade hummus for lunch, with pitta bread.
6. Having a good day at work and motoring on with lots of stuff on the "to do" list.
7. Back to the gym this morning after three days off with slightly sore knees (I have had knee surgery in the past and they're not my strong point).
8. Carrying on with shredding old personal documents at work, thereby continuing the process of clearing the house out.
See you all tomorrow, everyone!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening
Gingersnap - your day out sounds lovely
CCP - Hope you enjoy the football on Wednesday and they play better than last week
Savingforoz - your peanut stew sounds interesting
Pleasures for today:
1. Finding parents had paid some money into my account as they had given my brother a tv they wanted to give me something. They really didn't need to but still very nice so transferred to saving account till we need it.
2. Lift to work this morning at a friend that passed as I was waiting for the bus, good to get chance for a quick catch up.
3. Bumping into someone who used to work for me and finding out that things are going really well for him
4. Enjoying walking home from work in the sunshine
5. Arriving home at the same time as the icecream van pulled up so DD and I both enjoyed a 99 not MSE but a lovley treat,
Hugs to all who need them0 -
My five for today are
1. NSD
2. Leftover gammon for tea managed to stretch a small amount to feed four with a white sauce and lots of veg.
3. Long walk early this morning.
4. Drinking elderflower cordial while sitting in the sun.
5. Having a clean kitchen - clutter all cleared away and half of it thrown away.0 -
Thank you Sparrer.:hello:
My five for Monday:
1. The sunset tonight was just beautiful - hope everyone else shared in that one too!
2. Rescued the flagging bunch of flowers in a vase in our sitting room by filling it full of rosemary branches from the very overgrown bush in our garden and dotting the best of the remaining blooms amongst it - looks very 'designer' and smells delicious.
3. DS1 cooked supper, including the leftover new potatoes from last night fried up - very yummy.
4. DS2 survived his exams. Phew.
5. Cashed in £7 worth of 1p and 2p pieces saved in our 'pennies pig' to get seven extra pounds to add as an extra to my £365 challenge pot. I am saving £1 a day this year (and am on target so far).
Sweet dreams,
Broomstick x0 -
Congrats on the tickets Tealady, have a super day on Saturday. What lovely parents, so very thoughtful of them
Love the muddly day elizabunny, aren't they just the best sort?:)
jollymummy and CCP I do empathise, I was a resident warden with a local authority for 15 years and everyone said how envious they were until I told them I had to pay full rent, CT etc, worked a 40 hour week with three or more on call nights for a very small salary. Until they've experienced it themselves they haven't a clue, have they?
Poor you Kitchenbunny, those airbeds are no fun when they're flat. Pleased you got a good, warm night when you got home. I go to Yorkshire to friends and appreciate how cold it is up there
Ginger Snap your day at Dyrham Park sounds lovely. There are so many beautiful NT places to choose from I think I'll just have close my eyes and stick a pin in when I get my membership. Lol at the dogs chasing the remote controlled car
Well done on the sock monkey sale nuttybabe. Every penny helps
Pleased you asked about the book savingforoz, I was going to but forgot. I have Martins book and tbh I do all that anyway but am keeping it just to jog my memory from time to time. A new one would be great to read. The phone sounds really good, I like easy
Well done on the clean and tidy kitchen villagelife, doesn't it make you feel good every time you walk in and see it?
The sunset was stunning broomstick, like streaks of flames across the sky. Well done on the £365 challenge, sounds like you'll have quite a pot by the end of the year
My 5
1. Got up early and went to my exercise class. Didn't feel like going but felt much brighter afterwards
2. Called in to see DD and DGS1, plus the dogs and the parrot of course
3. Dropped by at the farm shop on the way home. I didn't buy anything! They just hadn't got anything particularly special in the colours of my garden (yellow and white). Will go back at the weekend when they have more stock in
4. Postie brought me some vouchers for a survey. They're really adding up now
5. Bought myself a pack of 5 Mars on special offer, cut therm in half and put them in the freezer to have half a day.
Night night, sweet dreams

Going to have to call upon a few from sunday for this one aswell
1) Having a lovely meal for fathers day

On a quick side note regarding my ebay listings. As I'm pretty new to the whole selling on ebay. I was just wondering if people wouldnt mind taking a quick look at my listings and tell me what you think of them. If you do a quick seller search for yortrend you'll find my listings.
