5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Wogglemaker: hope the meeting with the internet friend went really well!
Sparrer: Fingers crossed you get the NT membership for your birthday, it seems a small price to pay for a whole year's entry to such lovely places. (And my cashback has tracked! Yippee!!) How very kind of the gentleman to bring you the whitecurrant jelly, its gestures like that that restore your faith in human nature isn't it?
Wssla00: Please what's a 4od night? How kind of your dad to give you the money for a greenhouse! Lucky you. I am planning to get one later this year, its all very exciting.
My 5 for today so far:
1. Getting up early for my 8am haircut so the day seems longer and early mornings are so peaceful and quiet on the roads it was a pleasure to drive to the hairdressers.
2. When at the hairdressers I made the money-saving decision to not carry on going the same day as my friend (who has her hair done every 5 weeks) but to go every 9 weeks with my DD. That means I will spend a lot less in a year and hopefully hardly notice the difference in the state of my hair. (I am still trying to grow it from the chemo anyway so a few extra weeks will probably do it good)
3. Walked with the kids to a local library we have never been to before, despite it being practically on our doorstep. I was really chuffed to learn from the helpful librarian that although it is 60p each book to reserve them in the library itself, it is free if you do it online. Guess what I will be doing later!!!
4. Spent a good couple of hours in the garden with OH cutting new borders, pruning and weeding. It was very sunny and lovely to have his company, both happily working towards the same goal. The chickens were our constant companions, hoping for worms from the ground we dug over.
5. The tiler phoned yesterday evening and is coming next Thurs and Friday to sort the bathroom out. So I haven't got to chase him up and fingers crossed this time we have found a reliable tradesman!
6. My £17 National Trust Quidco money has tracked, reducing the cost of a year's joint membership to just £42. I know it may not be verified or paid, but its a start and any money back will be a bonus.
Have a good evening everyone!0 -
Evening all.
Like sparrer, I'm not going to talk about last night's f***b*** - I'm just grateful I decided not to waste my time and money going out in the rain to watch that drivel.
Ginger Snap - I think you had the right idea switching over to watch something else. I stayed with it in the hope that it might improve - I really should know better by now! I'm glad your DD had such a nice time on the IOW.
wogglemaker - I hope you have a lovely time in Birmingham, and that you feel OK while you're away. Taking a batch of HM ready meals with you is a great idea - much cheaper and tastier than buying something if you're too tired / unwell to cook. (I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of HM ready meals, and am still wondering why I've never done it before.)
sparrer - what a lovely person to bring you a jar of jelly! :T I've never tried whitecurrants, so I'd love to know what the jelly tastes like when you open it, please.I'm glad your friend's out of pain now - my grandmother's in much the same situation, so he really has my sympathy.
jollymummy - I hope your DM was feeling a bit better today - I'm sure your visit helped matters.
Ladyhawk - you're probably long gone by now, but I hope you have a lovely time in Paris.
GirlySquare - ditto - hope you have a lovely weekend!
My pleasures for today:
1) Bacon sarnie for breakfast. It always feels rather luxurious, somehow, I guess because I do it so rarely.
2) Southsea Food Festival today, which I'd forgotten about. It rather blew out of the water my planned £20 budget for the week, but fortunately / sadly (depending on your POV), the Festival was rather smaller than in previous years so temptation was reduced. My only unplanned purchase was a herby goat's cheese, which was so tasty I couldn't bring myself to go home without one.
3) I also bought some new herbs - at £1.50 each it's not the end of the world if they promptly die, like 99% of the herbs I've owned. (I'm not a bad gardener, but herbs elude me somehow.)
4) Listening to the bees buzzing in my garden. I had three different varieties on one plant, all buzzing at slightly different frequencies, and it sounded wonderful.
5) Rescued some spinach from my weekly veg box, which I'd put in the fridge and forgotten about. It's a bit sorry for itself to eat fresh, so I've wilted it and stuck it in the freezer to use in a spinach and ricotta lasagne next week.
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -

Evening
I love this thread.
Well I didn't get my lie in,
I told my neighbour I'd been looking forward to it for 6 weeks and her kids were in the garden at 8.45am blowing a plastic trumpet, last time I give them any home made buns !!!!!
Anyhoo. I have lots to be thankful for, here goes.
1. Had a lovely visit with my Mum and she is very cheery.
2. visited inlaws and my hubbys auntie was up from Kent, she is such fun, so had a jolly lunch.
3. collected my HUGE amount of HUGE tomato plants from my Mums. Lots of chutney this Summer I think
4. Had gorgeous cuddles from a very tired DS at bedtime.
5. Mr T delivery this morning so nice grub in the fridge and cupboard.
5. Off to watch Dr Who now that we recorded earlier.
nighty night

Evening
Have been a bit grumpy this evening, my brother has annoyed me but I will smile and get over it as I'm sure that is why brothers were put on the earth.
Pleasures for today:
1. Weekly shop on budget, I could have done it quite a lot under this week but we decided on some treats this week.
2. Realising I had been overcharged in mr.T so got double the difference back on overcharge so some of the above treats were free:money:
3. Call from my dad to say that the present that my mum had ordered for him as a suprise had arrived. He was so pleased, it is nice to hear him so chirpy. Plus he knew I had ordered it so knew she had got the best price
4. Lie in this morning and a cup of tea in bed
5. Easy dinner tonight of just bits and pieces
hugs to all who need them0 -
My five for yesterday are
1. Had to go to a study day but it was very useful and free lunch was good and plenty of coffee.
2. A collegue gave me a lift home afterwards.
3. Really seeing a field that has been left to go to seed and realising how lovely it looks with loads of different grasses and wild flowers in it. I walk past it most days but so often don't really look at it.
4. Managing to make the house look fairly tidy quickly before Ileft.
5. England winning the rugby.
6. DS2 winning his cricket match.0 -
Another flying visit. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. My 5 for yesterday:
1. Making a yummy batch of lentil pate. Made loads out of not that many lentils.
2. Enjoy the lentil pate with hot pitta bread with a friend for lunch. We had fresh strawberries afterwards.
3. Enjoying a quick trip around the local charity shops with the same friend afterwards.
4. Taking more stuff from my house to the charity shop.
5. Mending a cupboard in my kitchen.
6. Picking up some YS cherries for 25p and some YS coriander for 35p. The coriander will go into making felafel burgers later today. The cherries are already half gone!
7. Picking up some storage bags for my clothes when I pack them into storage before my trip.
8. Enjoying vegging out in front of the TV in the evening - even though my sofa has now gone!
Have a good day, everyone.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
my 5 for yesterday
1. postie brought me two packets of crisps to trial. Very kind, but not to my taste...supposed to be pepper and something yet they taste like salt and vinegar
2. She also brought me a £10 Argos voucher as reward for a survey
3. Went to a mini convention of my fellowship
4. Did the booking in table for a while, then helping with the catering - I prefer to be behind the scenes
5. Heard that my lovely friends in Yorkshire are to be grandparents again, so exciting :j
Will catch up with today's later, Happy Sunday
S x0 -
Afternoon all. Hope you've all had a lovely, relaxing Sunday.
My pleasures for today:
1) Had a nice chat with my dad: my father's day present got to him on time (I was a bit worried as I'd posted it rather late) and he loved the locally-produced chilli sauces I'd got him.
2) Popped to the farmers' market bit of the local food festival and spent quite a lot - so much for yesterday's restraint.I got some really nice bits, though, including a huge punnet of gooseberries. I haven't had goosegogs in years, and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to them.
3) My electric razor died during the week - lovely timing when the weather's starting to get warm- but luckily I had some vouchers from doing surveys, so my new one didn't cost me a penny. :money:
4) Eating nectarines while watching the football this afternoon - summer tastes of nectarines, imo.
5) Did a load of studying, and am now caught up to where I should be, for pretty much the first time since the course started.
6) Last week I moved a plant that my mum gave me and which looked deeply unhappy. The move's done the trick - it's got a new shoot on it. :j
7) As has one of my french bean plants, which I thought the slugs had killed.
8) Made a loaf of bread in the BM. I never get over the magic of throwing flour, water and a few other bits into a machine, switching it on, and a few hours later there's a loaf of bread.
9) Pub quiz tonight, and the host has kindly agreed to put on the football for me and a member of another team, as we're both addicted to the game. It's really very kind of him, as he hates sport of all kinds.
All in all, not a bad day.
Have a lovely evening, peeps.Back after a very long break!0
