5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all!
Hope you have managed to dodge the rain today. It's been rather pleasant here in Bedfordshire, even if it has been a tad breezy.
:hello: Welcome Celia and Happydaze
:T Ginger for standing up to your friend and being honest with her
1) Pottering in the garden. I mowed the grass and did some weeding. I also planted out a couple of my tomato plants. And I mowed my neighbours grass since she hates doing it - she popped a nice card through the letterbox to say thank you.
2) Baked some scones and brown rolls. I don't particularly like brown rolls but that's all I had in the cupboard. I really need to do some shopping but am putting it off as much as possible. I would be good to get through this week and only buy when I get back from Paris next Wednesday.
3) NSD
4) Made some yummy veggie soup from the odds and sods at the bottom of the fridge for lunch.
5) Chatted to my mum on the phone this evening.
Right - I really need to tidy the flat since I won't have a chance to do it before I head off to Paris on Saturday morning. I also need to find somewhere to stay on Saturday and Sunday night... and I need to find someone to look after the furbabes. I think that I am going to take the plunge and get a cat sitter.
Enjoy your evening
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Ladyhawk: You did well getting all the lawns mowed, its pouring down here now after a fine day. I decided to go for a walk about an hour ago and came back soaked to the skin. Paris sounds lovely at the weekend!0
-
Ooh, Paris, Ladyhawk! Sounds good. I've used a professional petsitter in the past and been very happy, knowing that my lovely puss cat was being well cared for and that someone was going into my house each day, so it wasn't unattended.
Feeling better about the tenant situation now - as Sparrer says, as one door closes, another one opens - and if she (my tenant, not the lovely Sparrer!) is not reliable at this early stage, there may have been problems when I was away. Not what I need!
On the plus side, I will advertise on Gumtree nearer the time, will check out The Lady, and have found what appears to be a good letting agent with reasonable fees. I'll contact them in due course.
My 5 for today:
1. Making a batch of yummy hummus ready for lunches in the week.
2. Enjoying more delicious local strawberries and yoghurt.
3. Cuddles with Fudge and Willow - such affectionate furbabies.
4. Catching up on lost sleep - what with the light mornings, and Fudge landing enthusiastically on my bed at silly o'clock most days, I haven't had much sleep some nights!
5. Feeling the cyberlove on here when I was a bit down about my tenant...thank you.
6. Clearing out my bookshelves and dismantling a table ready for collection by a local secondhand furniture dealer tomorrow. My house will look even barer than it does now! All to the good, though.
7. Calling Lakeland about my pressure cooker and experiencing their legendary customer service. A replacement is on its way! I love it for cooking pulses and it made a quick and yummy soup yesterday.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening all
sparrer - i think they have to win their next 2 games to get through to next round! not really sure although I am now watching 3rd game of the day making 6 of this world cup - thats the most football i have seen for a while!!
ginger snap - i make a mean hm pizza as well!!! I would rather have them than most shop bought ones!
Mine for today
1. A lie in :j
2. No housework today. I would have hoovered but everytime i turned around my neice was crushing crisps or something into the carpet so decided to wait until tomorrow!!! :rotfl:
3. Lunch was hm pizza and paprika wedges that were prepared yesterday so nice and easy and everyone commented on how nice the pizzas were.
4. Made my meal plan for a month with budget as well. Just need to compare a few prices and shop around and we should be under budget so can save a bit towards going to caravan in the summer holidays. Hopefully!!!
5. Having a glass of wine and a quiet evening with dh and as soon as the football is over i am having the remote!!! :rotfl:
Have a good evening everyone.0 -
So far I haven't had any of the "tell me of a time when..." (which I think is when you use the story, method, action... whatever the rest is). It's been more of a "out of 1-10, how do you rate your ability on..."
I just wish I could lie and say oh 10 of course!
SMART
Situation
Task
Action
Result
(important one for brownie points) Learning
Why not say what you are good at? I would say eight or nine with room to learn (perhaps saying what you need to work on as that shows you can be reflective on your work) but sell youself! If someone asks how do you rate your ability to work well in a team you could say something like
"I would rate myself as an eight/nine. I have had a lot of experience in working with others and thrive on working to achieve a team goal however in the past I have worried about other people's work and have learnt that the best way to help someone who seems to not be achieving their tasks is to share best practices with them and work with them to ensure they reach the desired outcome"
Something like that maybe?
OK here are mine for today:
1. A lay in this morning
2. Eating a huge dinner- HM lasagne, salad from the garden, garlic bread and actifry chips. I am actually stuffed but still have lemon curd ice cream in the ice cream maker being churned as we speak!
3. Going to the cinema for a cheap day out. Ticket included on my monthly card, and home bought snacks
4. Seeing new growth in my garden
5. Picking up some tomato plants from freecycle. Very lovely plants and I was very jealous of the lady's greenhouse! Think that's going to be my next thing to buy. Her garden gave me some interesting ideas about mine actually though so will be good to utilise some of her ideas!
Have a good night all.... once I have had some ice cream I may roll myself to bed!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
Here's my five pleasures for today:
1. Making yummy lamb kofte for tea with shredded iceberg lettuce and some garlicky mayo and it was amazing. Definitely one I'll be doing again.
2. Getting a huge chunk of sewing done. I'll be finished this project (crafty Christmas present No.1) by the end of summer and will be ready to start on something else
3. Finding that one of my frugal buys will come in very handy when we next go camping. It's a solar shower that you hang up to let water heat. I can't wait to try it.
4. A moment's peace and quiet. It is an underrated thing, as I love how things are. I do appreciate a quiet time though.
5. Drinking plenty of water. I tend to in the warmer weather anyway, but it makes me feel good. I did have a crafty Pepsi today though - bad me!
Yep, I did see Going Postal and thought it was great! I loved the personification of the characters and the interaction between Moist and Adora. Really nice to see something different on TV too. Not much else has happened, really, apart from looking at camping stuff today and a little bit of cooking. Did see the F1 which was a surprisingly good race. Have a nice night, everyone.

Hello everyone.
A quickie 5 for today
1) Made a pot of rose petal jam, it's a bit sweet though, but will be used up anyway (bit of an experiment really) Also made a lovely Victoria Sponge for tea.
2) Dinner at the proper time for a change -always in a rush these days. 1pm on the dot -Amazing!
3) Found £1 coin in the road when out for a stroll.
4) A lazy Sunday afternoon just muddling around in the garden -very nice.
5) A lazy Sunday evening still just muddling around but indoors. (my life isn't really boring -just been really busy lately and it's so nice to wind down a bit.
Still playing catch up on the posts people, I will do my best.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Hi Celia and Happydaze, welcome
Congrats on you car boot finds niksyg, I was going to one this morning but didn't wake up in time:o. Ah well, it saved me some pennies
Apricot tea loaf sounds really yummy wogglemaker, I'm always ready to try a new recipe and that idea has joined my list of 'must makes'
Will keep everything 'x'd for you newlywed that the job at your original place will come to something for you. I think you're doing brilliantly as keeping your spirits up - and ice cream helps
Lol GirlySquare I know what you mean about grown up television but it is funny hearing mums talking about the latest children's programmes. Hope your DM is recovering, had to smile at the thought of your SD turning up like Sterling Moss on his tractor :rotfl:
Well done on finding the shampoo and conditioner Ginger Snap and especially well done on speaking out rather than just people pleasing :T. I'm sure you'll be respected much more for saying no than starting to go through with something and either dropping it half way through or doing it with resentment
You're making me jealous Ladyhawk, I love all things French and wish I could go instead of you (I'd no doubt lose you your job though!) Good idea to get a cat sitter then you're sure the mogs will be looked after properly and professionally.
So pleased you sound a bit brighter savingforoz, I'm sure it'll turn out well for you. I do wish you hadn't mentioned Lakeland though, now I've got the urge to look at their web site and it's definitely not on my shopping list for this month!
I watched a little of the Germany/Oz game nuttybabe, as my lovely friend in Beijing is an Aussie. Wish I hadn't though and am not particularly looking forward to that part of our conversation when I call him shortly . Hope you got the remote and got to watch a little more 'interesting' television
wssla all I can say to lemon curd ice cream is . I have a thing about ice cream atm (thinks - wonder if Lakeland sell ice cream makers)
The shower sounds interesting Kitchenbunny, hope it's as effective as it sounds. As for the lamb, as you said, yummy!
Congrats on the £1 find elizabunny, and on having a lazy afternoon/evening. It's nice to spend time doing little occasionally to recharge the batteries
My 5 -
1. A lie in til 9.15am
2. Two more freecyclers taking some odds and ends
3. a nsd
4. made enough roast for two days, using a couple of drumsticks and masses of veggies
5. DNeighbour is going to save her eggs boxes so when I go to visit my friends in Yorks later in the year I can take them with me. Like all chicken owners they're always scratching around for them (pardon the pun)
Night night, sleepy tight

Weekend's delights:
1. School fete was fab, great weather, hard work, lots of fun and hopefully lots of money raised
2. DD was a very enthusiastic helper, as were my lovely friends who came along too
3. Lots of delicious "grown up drinks", think we managed to do our bit to shift the Pimm's lake
4. Great picnic yesterday at one of the girls' new pad, managing to avoid the "let's go and have lunch in the restaurant next door" by taking a big bag of salad ingredients with me, and putting it together with goodies from friend's fridge. Phew!
5. Got 3 good little Christmas presents from the tombola, £2 for 3 gifts is pretty fab
6. Looking forward to my expenses claim next month after today's planned work in a different office
Hmmm, there are plenty more but I've just realised the time and that I've not got DD up for school yet!! Have a great day everyone0 -
Afternoon all.
I really need to post some pleasures as I'm feeling rather sorry for myself today. I'm not back at work as planned as my usual food test (if it looks, smells and tastes OK, it probably is) didn't work for once, and I spent the night curled up with stomach ache and am feeling very dozy and unwell today.(And rather miffed that I'm going to have to throw out the rest of the fruit salad, which I reckon is what caused this. Hey ho, I got to eat most of it.
)
Anyway, pleasures for the weekend:
Saturday:
1) Nice train ride up to Surrey, watching the big black clouds forming and once again being very grateful that I wasn't at the Isle of Wight Festival this year.
2) Had a quick tour round the historic building my sister works in. It's been beautifully modernised to keep most of the 18th century features - slightly too much so in the case of the snooker room (now a tv room) which is painted in an original shade of green that's rather unpleasant to modern eyes!
3) Had a mooch round the carnival with my sister, and my grandmother's SIL's float won the parade. :j
4) Popped in to visit my grandmother, who had just got out of hospital and was delighted to be home.
5) Escaping from my grandmother's just as WW3 was breaking out between my grandmother, her sister and her SIL, by telling them we had to go and pick up my sister's partner before the football started. We hadn't actually made any such plan, but we didn't want to get caught in the middle of the argument!
6) Meeting up with my sister's partner to go and watch the football at his local pub. (Well, we thought we'd better after using it as an excuse! :rotfl:)
Sunday:
1) Lie-in - my last before going back to work (well, that was the intention, anyway).
2) Watching football while studying.
3) My team (McLaren) won the grand prix. :j
4) My team won the pub quiz. It almost made up for being stuck in an upstairs room (so as not to disturb people watching the football), crammed in to the corner by a quiz machine (those things give out a surprising amount of heat - I was definitely medium-cooked by the end of the quiz!).
5) Clean sheets on the bed when I got home.
I'll be back with today's pleasures later, when I'll hopefully feel well enough to actually think of some.
Have a pleasant day, all.Back after a very long break!0
