    Celia, it means Old Style.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Walked into town, thereby avoiding using petrol and getting some good free exercise.

    2. My friend coming round to help me take some stuff to the local recycling point.

    3. Getting some good books from the library.

    4. Enjoying my first strawberries of the season along with my homemade soya yoghurt. A big punnet of Sainsburys Basics, from just down the road in Somerset, and they were delicious.

    5. Making a batch of golden lentil soup - turned out really nice, and it tasted great with a homemade roll.

Feeling disappointed because I got a phone call last night from the woman who was supposed to be moving in with me and renting my house, saying that she is no longer moving to Bristol. Back to square one on that, then. I know it's not the end of the world, but I've felt quite let down by various people in my life recently and this hasn't helped. I do find so many people make promises and then don't follow through - does anyone else find that others are flaky and unreliable?
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Savingforoz: really sorry to hear about the let down, I can just imagine how you must feel after thinking the house situation was all sorted. I agree with you, I think my word is my bond, but so many people these days seem very fickle. Hope you get something sorted soon!

Savingforoz I completely agree - I hate being let down and I always make sure that if I say something I stick by it....can't be doing with flakiness. Just remember that things happen for a reason, so see try and see the positive and think that someone much better will come along! ((((HUGS))))

Sparrer wasn't it wierd how quiet everywhere was - - it was lovely! I hate football but think the world cup should happen more often so that people stay in watching TV and leave the sun and quiet all to me...hehehe!

Reverbe what a result on the curry - wtg!

Glad the furbabe is ok Ladyhawk it's so frightening when you think there's something wrong...and well done on hitting the scary rides!!!

Kitchenbunny I like your 'veg bulking curry' - I've been doing that more often recently and it makes me giggle when OH doesn't notice. He HATES celery and I managed to sneak it into a bolognese without him noticing last week - haha!

Right, well yesterday it was just me and the pooch...

    1) went to a car boot sale and got a gorgeous mirror for my about-to-be-shabby-chic dressing table, 3 hostas for £5 to go in a shady spot in the garden and a pair of gorgeous delphiniums - one was a really deep purpley colour with hints of electric blue in it. I was wondering around with the pup on a lead, carrying this plant and people wee saying "oh look at that puppy, isn't he gorgeous" followed by "oooh and look at that delphinium, what a lovely colour" - I felt like some kind of car boot celebrity!! I also got a brand new copy of "Jonathan strange & Mr Norrell" for 50p!!!!

    2) Spent some time in the garden planting my new treasures and trying to finish off the flower be we made last week - having some nail and hammer issues so will wait for OH to help me this afternoon when he gets home.

    3) Sanded down the bargain bedside tables I got last weekend and put the first coat of paint on - they look so much better already!

    4) Mum rang me from Greece where she is on holiday, we normally chat every day and I've really missed her this week so it was great to catch up.

    5) Sitting in the garden in the sun reading my book this afternoon (Cutting for Stone - it's brilliant), was very peaceful.

Have a lovely day today all!

I have just found this thread and I am loving what I read! I tend to spend my life ignoring the "nice" things that happen and dwelling on the not so good. So from now on I am going to try to follow all of your lead so here goes my 5 for yesterday:

    1. Having a good catch up with a work colleague I hadn't seen for ages
    2. Enjoyed a lovely homemade chicken caesar salad without croutons at lunchtime
    3. Laughing out loud until my tummy ached.
    4. A lovely hot power shower after a long 12 hr shift at work.
    5. Chatting to daughter on phone (working away from home at the moment) while husband was shouting at tv in the background (watching scotland v argentina rugby match)

((((savingforoz)))) so sorry to hear the news. I know cliches aren't what you want to hear right now but I firmly believe that as one door closes another opens. It will be okay, and if the worst comes to the worst you have the option of using an agent. (you can take out insurance against times you might have an empty property so the rent is always paid). Not the best option but there if you need it. Hope it won't come to that though and you find someone soon...another thought, have you thought of advertising in The Lady? Not wanting to sound snobby but 'nicer' people read that :o

Newlywed- do you use S-M-A-R-T in your interviews?

Basically if it is a competency based interview, they are usually looking for these types of answer. If you want any more info on it lemme know.... those types of questions are b*ggers

So far I haven't had any of the "tell me of a time when..." (which I think is when you use the story, method, action... whatever the rest is). It's been more of a "out of 1-10, how do you rate your ability on..." :( I just wish I could lie and say oh 10 of course! :p

    Anyway, here's mine so far:

    1. Seeing some friends I haven't seen for a little while
    2. Being told by one of them that the place I worked in when I first left school has a job going and hasn't yet advertised (said friend will find out more for me ;)).
    3. Lack of work and getting sick of job applications has changed my opinions somewhat and quite honestly I'd do anything that paid more than JSA
    4. Dead heading the roses and seeing lots more buds ready to bloom
    5. My plants all seem to be growing well.
    6. My hayfever tablets are working well.
    7. The Margarite Patten books from the library have some recipes that look really quite interesting so will be doing some war time and post war recipe testing
    8. The sun is shining and there's icecream in the freezer..... so time to say see you later! :D

    Welcome Celia and Happydaze
savingforoz sorry to hear you've been let down, what a good suggestion from sparrer
newlywed good luck with the job lead from your friend, nothing beats networking

    Today:
    1) an hour in bed reading and watching grown up TV before dd woke up
    2) cuddles from dd
    3) 'phoned mum at the hospital, she had another procedure on Friday and is still feeling down. Inwardly laughing though because mum told me that stepdad got permission to ride his mobility scooter into the ward, the staff thought it was a small one and they had a surprise when he turned up in a full size scooter and left it by her bed...
    4) enjoying a sunny day
    5) reading everyone's posts, thanks guys

Hi everyone, hope your days have gone well. Mine for today so far:

    1. Although hating waking up again at 6.30 am (to sort friend's chickens) am really glad its the last day! Plus it makes the day seem longer so I can fit more in to it.

    2. Making homemade pizzas with the children for lunch and OH saying they actually tasted quite good and he would eat them again. (As an ex-chef he is notoriously difficult to please when it comes to food!!) I am always so amazed at the mini miracle of bread dough rising, makes me smile every time, and its very satisfying knocking it back half way through. Kids had mozzarella and chorizo and I had goats cheese with artichokes. YUMMM!

    3. Needing some shampoo and conditioner for DD who is off for a week with school to Isle of Wight, but managing to find some she could use in my cupboards thus resisting the trip to the shops. So a NSD today!

    4. Helping DD tidy her room (ARGHHH!) and sorting out loads of stuff for charity and ebay. Really satisfying feeling getting things sorted.

    5. Plucking up the courage to tell a friend I didn't feel comfortable with something. Pre-counselling I would just have gone along with things and hated it, getting very stressed.

Have a good evening everyone! :)
