    1. Get up very early to go into the victory garden, and burn a stack of branches that have been piled up since I have been pruning bushes. When it cools down, I will be working the ashes into the soil.

    2. Head for the cash point, and draw out a whopping great £10. I already have a fiver and £19 in nuggets on me.

3.. Tomorrow a £5-off voucher at W H Smith runs out, so I have to spend at least £12 today on stationery. Most of the stuff in Smith's I can get cheaper elsewhere, but there are one or two things they sell that I can't anywhere else in this town. Went in there and bought two bottles of fountain pen ink and a couple of Parker biro refills. Total £13.97, reduced to £8.97. Saving is a respectable 35.8%

    4. In the Coop I head straight for the reduced section, buy a packet of bagels to fill space in the freezer. I see they have got a mint plant reduced 50p. I was actually thinking of planting mint, but was wondering if it was too late. Oh, well, God is Love. I buy it, and plant it in a spare tub I have in the garden. Hopefully, it will spread like bindweed, and I will never want for mint tea again.

    5. In the Coop, they are selling cartons of single cream at 2 for 90p. I picked up an easy ice cream recipe from an Australian guy on YouTube. It's eatable, and you know what's in it, although somehow I don't see Ally McBeal eating it in her pyjamas. So, at home, that's 2 cups of cream, 2 cups of milk, half a cup of sugar, a little vanilla essence. Now, do I leave it as plain vanilla? Or do I flavour it? If so, with what? I see that the cafetiere is half full with cold coffee, so I pour that into the blender. I whizz the lot around in the blender and pour it into a recycled ice cream tub. But before I put it in the freezer, I take a spoon and sample it. It's delicious. That coffee was just what the doctor ordered. I'm looking forward to guzzling it tomorrow.

Carolyntia great to hear you being positive, and that your boss/colleague is fighting your corner
sparrer you can't taste the chocolate at all, the choc chip gives depth to the flavour and takes the edge off the chilli taste

    Hello all,

wogglemaker, Yes, I was near you while in Stroud, but had a fair drive to get there. DD3 lives in Cheltenham, but I'm in Bath. Nice drive up the A46 though.

Ladyhawk and sparrer - thank you both for your lovely comments, also CCP.

Last time I posted I was really looking forward to doing some stitching on Thursday while DH was at his day centre. It was not to be! I did a few chores, then had an early lunch before going to look at my fabrics and threads.

Half way through lunch the phone rang. It was our CPN to say she'd been rung by the centre - DH was uncontrollably agitated, and they weren't coping. He's apparently now at the limit of what they can manage, so they may not be able to have him for much longer - he's changed to a higher level of need. (I know this!) So she and a colleague went to collect him and brought him back here.

DH by this time was calmer, and when it was put to him that he might benefit from "a few days" of being assessed in the hospital, he agreed to it. So yesterday afternoon they came and picked us up and took us to the unit (actually not very far from here).

He didn't settle very well, and attacked me (as he's been doing recently) and staff suggested it was best if I left, which I did. Evidently they had to sedate him in the end. Now, 24hrs later, he seems to have settled down quite well. I deliberately didn't visit today, to give him a chance to settle in, but DD4 went (while I minded the children), and she was pleasantly surprised to find him calmer than he's been for a while.

Anyway, sorry to go on at length, but the outcome is that I can actually tell you about my five!

    1. After being awake worrying half the night, I did have a good kip from about 4am to 8.50 - a lie-in!

    2. Ate breakfast (and in fact all my meals today) sitting at the little table on the patio, enjoying the sunshine and watching the birds on the feeder.

    3. Made the decision that I'm going to get the guy who cuts our hedges to tidy up and slightly remodel the back garden, as because of other demands I've really neglected it this year and it's a real mess. While I'm at it I could do with a bit more border and some more perennials. My Sealed Pot money can go towards this. Feel better for deciding this!

    4. Baked some peanut butter cookies for the grandchildren, and they came out so well, really melt-in-the-mouth consistency, delicious too. Probably because I threw them together at high speed!

    5. JUST caught the bus in to town this afternoon - did a granny sprint as it came round the corner, and nice Mr Driver stopped for me.

    6. Went to M&S and bought DH some new thin pyjamas to keep him cool (his older ones have got a bit disreputable - good enough for home but not for hospital. First time I've been in our recently enlarged and remodelled M&S store - and I just headed for the jim-jams, paid, then straight out of the door! What willpower!

    7. Had a glass of wine with my evening meal, then justified having a second glass on the grounds that it would go stale without DH helping me to drink it! And very nice it was too!
(Never seem able to stick at 5 once I get going!)
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

    Hi Guys,

a bit late for me! Need my bed!:)

    Today

    1. Car boot sale at school was not v busy, but my aim was to use it as evidence for an accreditation for my students. So, job done, photos taken and boxes ticked. We did sell some stuff and made a bit of money for school as well. :)
    2. Caught the sun as there was no shade at the car boot.
    3. Bought DS2 a WWF wrestling set at the car boot. Its a wrestling ring inside a cage . He is very happy, as he puts the hamster in there:rotfl:
    4. Lunch at MiL as DH spent the morning cleaning her patio.
    5. Dinner in friends garden. Lovely food, birdsong, happy kids on the trampoline, chickens clucking, good conversation. :A

Winchelsea - hope the assessment is not too distressing for your DH or you. I'm glad the CPN is recognising that you need more support, and hope that you both get some practical help. :A

Hope tomorrow is sunny again! HE x

niksyg the grapes were a real bargain. If you're anything like me they won't last long :D
newlywed sorry about the jobs :(, it may not feel like it now but the right one will come along
Thrilla you were wise to plant the mint in a pot, it does spread like wildfire and would take over your garden if you let it
GirlySquare the walk along the cycle path in the sun sounds lovely. The fact that you had a caramel Magnum makes it even more lovely! :D
Kittikins your DD is growing up...good for her doing the crossword and choosing the contents for her own hanging basket :)
nuttybabe what a nerve your BiL has:mad:. Next time you or OH have a birthday ask for wine shop vouchers!:o
Winchelsea you've had a pretty emotional time..use this period to get yourself lots of rest and give yourself a little self indulgence. You've made as good start by not wasting the wine ;). Congrats on the 'direct' route at M&S!

    For yesterday and today...
Washing going onto the line to dry
Chimnea last night with free wood burning in it, used to bake potatoes (plus homegrown herby salad - dinner for two hungry men cost £1 max, included ham, cheese, coleslaw)
Played my harp in the garden
Knitting an evening bag to go with a charity shop (Frank Usher) evening dress that I have had for about 12 years, for an event in June.
Homebrew wine and beer bubbling away
    Potted up tomato plants
Gave some spare lettuce plants to a friend, he will bring me cut rhubarb later today
    Watered neighbours garden for her
Got neighbour a new gardener (neighbour is 85, partly sighted and loosing hearing) - new guys costs less than the previous one, plus he actually knows about and loves plants - he's going to bring her foxgloves from another garden where they don't want them, for free.
Another neighbour is going to buff and sort the paintwork on my car, at a very reduced rate. He'll even do it here, at home.
Planted up tubs and baskets have gone out, including one to elderly neighbour.
Going to make icecream today for the first time.
Free Vitamin D from the sunshine.

It's a good weekend all together! Posting here makes me realise how much there is to be thankful for.
