Hey up everyone.
Mine for today:
1. Went to see my parents and then my uncle.
2. Laid large squashed cardboard boxes all over the exposed bits of ground on one area of the garden where i have some raised beds and planters...don't want to get all muddy when i am tending my veggies (if and when they grow).
3. We ate my cheesy oatcakes with baked beans for tea. Simple, economical, filling and very tasty.
4. My son visited us this afternoon and it was good to spend time with him.
5. Received my order of very cheap seed potatoes (50p for 0.5kg). didn;t realise quite how many i ordered though. Flippin' 'eck...dunno where i am going to put 'em all!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

A very brief one tonight as I have to get up early
1. Went to the college and had my hair cut, well, shorn really, there's very little left. I know I said short but at this length a bottle of shampoo would last me two years :rotfl:. But I'm not complaining, she was a sweet girl, it cost £7 and I won't have to go back for months!
2.. The kind freecycler who offered to drop the paint off, did. There's enough to do two coats so I was really lucky. I offered some roofing felt which two people want...it's so difficult to choose who to give to and who to let down, sometimes
. I usually opt for the one who says please and thank you but in this case they both did. I'll sleep on it..
3. Postie brought me a freebie bottle of foundation which I tried out before the haidressers, and have only just now taken off. Quite impressed, and it does what it says on the tin
4. More £'s in my Paypal account, plus a £15 voucher and another almost ready to claim, all for doing surveys. Christmas savings are mounting up nicely.
5. Looking forward to a short chat with DF before I turn out the light
Night night, sweet dreams

Big Hugs to ALL on this thread, some need a hug, some don`t, but some folks (like me) just need to hug people. I`ve recently filtered back into full-time hours after months away, haven`t had chance to read or post in last couple of days but will catch up, day off tomorrow. I love this board, have missed you all!
My OS pleasures today-
1) Woke up before the alarm, thought I`d overslept. Relief, enjoyed taking my time at 6am when I`d woken thinking I`d have to rush. Checked my rota again, last Early shift till Friday then 3 days off! I can live with that.
2) Busy but positive day, expected to feel drained by the end of it, but SO glad to get through it well and have a day off tomorrow that that one day feels like a holiday. Got home, phoned my veg man at farm shop and discovered he had local SPINACH and would be there till 6pm, so after a quick shower revived meself and went Shopping! Mad, I thought. Glad I did, ace shopping spree!
3) Went to farm shop, bought a BOX -big wooden box, local grown, fresh real spinach, not the supermarket `baby leaf` stuff, for a fiver. Had some tonight, put some in bucket of water will keep/eat for a few days, shared some with DD, great stuff. Also got a late bargain there , loads of mushrooms for £1, and some odd-shaped red peppers just `chuck them in if you can use them`(some for DD and some for our beef curry tomorrow!)
Supper tonight was spinach, bacon, and fried eggs (farm shop, tray for £2.50), gorgeous.
4) Went to Iceland nearby after farm shop for bacon, nipped into co-op/somerfield also nearby, same carpark, to see what was there and got 3 packs for £10 coated chicken thighs/drums, well in date, have fridge room for now.
5)Then went to Asda next, as cat will only eat their pouches, and found whoopsied topside Welsh beef roasting joints `with added fat` (not a problem, easier to remove!) use by 13th, original prices around £11, whoopsied down to between £2 and £3.50, got 4 of these (one for DD) Also got 2 tops (same) for DGD, £1.50 each, and a summer cardy thing for myself £3
6)Then went to Tesco, filled up on petrol so went inside store and stocked up on Hellmanns mayo (DS eats it with truly everything!) got 10 jars, 82p off each, saved £8.20! And remembered I was out of cornflour and mustard. (DRAT - just remembered I forgot redcurrant sauce, but that`s only for me, so never mind -grrr)
7) Came home by the `scenic route`, adds a few miles but less traffic and Enjoyed the drive, gloating about my spinach all the way home, and so glad I`d done the shopping today after work, so my `day off` tomorrow just MIGHT be spent cleaning etc. at home...it`s a bit needy here for that!0 -
My five for the past couple of days,
1 Finding wild asparagus for the first time this year. Delicious.
2 Making a wild garlic pesto sauce and everybody enjoying it or at least eating it without complaints.
3 washing dried on line yesterday and I made it home from work just before it rained.
4 Meeting a friend while walking the dog for the first time in ages and catching up.
5 Trying to shop from stores this week but needed bread and so sent DS1 and he returned with just bread.
6 Two NSD Sunday and Monday0 -
Morning
Just a quick post for me today as need to pick something up from post office before work.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Washing out on line before work and DD brought it in when she got home from school
2. DD has made up with one of her friends that she had fallen out with and didn't speak to for about a year. This makes my life much easier as her mum is one of my friends plus it was such a shame as they have been friends since their first day at school.
3. New laptop arrived and I have set it up all by myself with no phone a friend. My trainee geek status at work is abviously starting to pay off.
4. HM surf and turf for dinner. The steaks were some I had bought YS in waitrose a few weeks ago and threw in the freezer. They were so nice much better qulaity than Mr.T
5. Popped into Waitrose on way home and picked up a few YS bargains. Love waitrose at 6 o'clock:money:
Hugs to all who need them. Happy Belated Birthday Mollie. Jexy hope the aches stop soon. Newlywed fingers crossed for a second interview. Wogglemaker hope your lungs clear up soon. Sparrer, I'm not really a morning person but I am lazy and I know if I didn't do these things before work nothing would ever get done (my theory is house is a mess but at least they get decent homecooked food and wear clean clothes, what more could they want:rotfl:)0 -
Ladyhawk, hope you enjoy the helicopter ride!
My 5 for yesterday:
1. Yummy spicy chickpea and veg pasta for tea. I made a huge panful so there's enough for my lunches for the rest of the week.
2. Going for a drink with two good friends in a lovely friendly pub in the evening.
3. Getting my short story done to first draft stage. Now comes the hard work of polishing it up.
4. Short day at work as I had a course in the afternoon.
5. Getting a new TV aerial -now I can watch my favourite shows without the picture pixelating - and being able to fit it into my monthly budget OK, although things will be tight for the rest of the month.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Morning all.
Sorry I didn't get round to posting yesterday, but I was feeling rather down after a thoughtless comment from a colleague at work (along the lines of 'if your grandmother is that ill you'd better hope she doesn't die before you visit her on Friday' - true, but I didn't think it was very kind to say it). The day picked up late in the evening, though (see 4 onwards!
).
1) Swifts screaming round the house - I always think of them as summer on wings.
2) My favourite tree is well out in flower, and looks an absolute picture.
3) Cuddles with my cat when I got home. You can't beat feline hugs when you're feeling down (except possibly canine hugs, if you've got a dog instead).
4) My dad popped in on his way home from my grandmother's and said she's a bit better, which is a great relief.
5) Dad also dropped off some of his excess plants for me, including some tomatoes as mine are so pathetically tiny.
6) Then we went to a very friendly pub to kill an hour or so while he waited for his ferry - the only problem was not getting knocked off our bar stools by the pub dogs, two very exuberant golden retrievers.
jex - hope your aches are better this morning.
Ladyhawk - a helicopter ride - you lucky bunny! Hope you enjoy(ed) it.
newlywed - I'm glad the interview went well. The interviews seem to be coming thick and fast at the moment, which has got to be a good sign. fingers crossed you get whichever one you decide you want most.
wogglemaker - glad you're feeling better today. WTG on your chicken - it all sounds delicious.
niksyg - that's good news on your test results. I hope you're feeling better today.
sparrer (from yesterday - this thread moves so fast that missing a day means a lot of catching up!) - thanks for your thoughts on my drive on Friday - you're quite right that the anticipation is worse than the drive itself. My main fear is getting lost in the back streets of south London and being unable to find my way out again. When I spoke to my dad last night, though, he promised to keep his phone switched on on Friday so, if I do get lost, he should be able to steer me out again.
Right, I think I'm caught up.Have a nice day, everyone.
Back after a very long break!0 -
thanks guys.
Just had a phone call - I'm invited to second interviews next week! so that has to be number 1,2,3, 4 and 5 for today!:rotfl:
It's the first job I've been interviewed for that I want (although the interview for next Wednesday looks quite interesting too, but that one is similar to what I was doing, this one is completely different). Just need to build up my self confidence a bit, as I know I can do the job but always get really nervous.
Having applied for 34 jobs in two months - surely I have to get something?working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
And extra ones:
1. Got the notice from DVLA that they have marked my car as scrapped so no longer liable for tax.
2. Got a free foundation from Rimmel. I love their giveaways, haven't bought a foundation or mascara in about 2 years :rotfl:working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Newlywed - Well done on the second interview, keeping everything crossed for you.
CCP - Some people are so thoughtless , big hugs to you.0
