    Morning Peeps.

Jexy - I was quite shocked when I read the start of your sentence 'Decided to kill 2 birds......' though Eddie was quite lucky to survive the lunch break by the sounds of it! :rotfl::rotfl:

Sparrer - Thanks for the suggestions.(I love gaffer tape :D). My problem is the height of the ceiling. Even if I bring the ladder from home, (someone nicked the schools ladder!), I still can't reach the ceiling! I will have to suspend it from the light, but cos its so big, the straws keep bending  I'm thinking of strengthening it with a hula hoop!

Kittykins - Very envious of your visit to the Steiner School. As a careers adviser, I did all the out of borough visits for a while. Loved visiting the Steiner colleges. One of the colleges in Gloucestershire made the most beautiful blankets and scarves. Wish we could have afforded to send the kids to the one at Stourbridge.

    5 for yesterday

    1. Ordered a pair of Cath Kidston Festival wellies for the allotment at school. Less than half price with a discount code and sooooo beautiful. I will have to wear thick socks as they didn't have my size, but I don't care!:j
    2. Quick MSE shopping mission. Tried two Poundlands for the re-packaged Boots creams, but no luck. Did get two free gift packs in B0dy sh0p using my £5 vouchers (for the present box) , and DH and I stopped for hot chocolate at McD's using free drink vouchers.

    3. Not feeling v well, so spent most of the day playing on the laptop. A guilty pleasure.

    4. Dinner at friends house. Mmmmmmm

    5. Tackling the washing. Finding clothes that I like, and that still fit me has been particularly difficult this week! Hope everything has been hiding in the washing basket! :o

Todays weather looks more promising, so have a great day. HE x

    Hi everyone

Blimus - well done on the weight loss! You must feel very proud :)

Hugs to everyone that needs them and waves at everyone!

So, my things for this weekend:

    1) Went to see The Ghost yesterday (Ewan McGregor <3) for £1 from the KGB Deal, very good film, I'd recommend it.

    2) Ate some more of our free McCain's Homefries with whoopsied cheese and tomato flatbread - not very healthy but at 17p a portion I can't complain!

    3) Been up since 7.30am and have so far put a wash on, started off some bread in the Panny, washed up and wiped down kitchen surfaces. Now having a brew!

    4) Bought a Cooksworks free standing electric mixer from Argos, half price, because my cakes never rise and I'm convinced it's cause I'm not getting enough air in to them using a hand whisk (non-electric). Paying mainly with Nectar points as well.

    5) Tried out some carrot cupcakes from my Hummingbird Bakery cookbook - they didn't rise but taste lovely!

Have lovely days everyone :) xx
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.

    Afternoon all.

It looks like pleasures are going to be a bit hard to find for me for a while - I've found out today that my grandmother, who has been ill for some time, has taken a turn for the worse and probably won't be with us for much longer. It's no great surprise given her illness, but it's still really :(:(.

    Anyway:

jex - thanks for your chicken stories - they always make me laugh, although I suspect the loss of your lunch means you weren't laughing quite as much! ;)

nuttybabe - I'm sorry you had such a bad day yesterday - I hope today was better for you.

Caterina - it's lovely to see you back, and I'm glad you had such a nice time.

Blimus - well done on your weight loss. :T

    :hello: new posters!

My pleasures for the past couple of days:

    Saturday:
    1) Woke up very late indeed. I'm putting it down to the fact I've been ill and needed rest rather than sheer laziness! ;)
    2) My clematis is finally out in flower, after three years of waiting.
    3) My bargain hardy geranium (50p in an end of summer sale last year) also has its first flowers.
    4) Playing with my cat and his toy mouse - much better than his attempts to make me feel better by being uber-affectionate, which have just resulted in me constantly tripping over him.
    5) HM calzone for tea - not my best-ever effort, but pretty tasty all the same.

    Today:
    1) I woke up this morning feeling much better than I have done for the past few days (physically, anyway).
    2) Arranging with my dad that he'll meet me for a drink after visiting my grandmother (his mother) on Tuesday.
    3) I'm not planning on going out to the pub quiz tonight as I'll be pretty lousy company in this mood - if I don't, that will be three NSDs in a row. :j
    4) Finishing one of the books I got delivered on Friday - an excellent story, although the sad ending hasn't done wonders at cheering me up.
    5) Finding a fox on the roof of my shed. I love foxes so I was delighted to see one so close, although I'm still trying to work out why it was on my shed roof.
    6) Reading this thread. Reading about the pleasant things other people are doing is strangely comforting when you're feeling down, I find. :T to everyone who posts here.
Back after a very long break!

    Hi all

Thank you all of you who welcomed me back, it is truly great to be back, no matter how good it was to be with my family of origin, as my place is HERE!

Welcome to Villagelife! I hope you will enjoy posting and reading in this thread, it is a great place to make friends.

nuttybabe, sorry you had a difficult time with your DH, hope you sort things out soon (if that's what you want, of course!)

Ladyhawk, are you going steady with kiwiboy now? Have I missed something while I was away? Hope all goes just the way you want it to go, however!

Girlysquare, thank you so much for adding my posts to your pleasures, it is so kind of you!

Kittikins, I have a Steiner school just in front of my house and their markets and sales are spectacular! I always go away from them having spent too much, but always delighted with the amazing, beautifully crafted things I buy from them. The food they make is also divine and there is plenty of vegetarian and different ethnic foodstuffs to make everybody happy! However, well done for resisting the temptation, even if this is due to your DD's intervention!

Jexy, thank you, it is GREAT to be back, too!

lilian1977 - SNAP re The Ghost film, DH and I went yesterday too (alas paying full price, though!) and we found it very good - although the ending is not entirely to my satisfaction, I was hoping for something different! What's the KGB deal?

Edited to add: Sorry CCP if at first I missed the bit about your granny, I Just wanted to express my sorrow for your sad news (((HUGS))).

Here are my pleasures for the day:

1 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, the wonderful nuts and fruits porridge with syrup that he makes so well (apologies to all Scots!:rotfl:)

    2 - Looooong lie-in reading a magazine

3 - DH is finally putting the furniture back into the bathroom, even though it still needs a coat of paint on the wall, but at least I will have some space in the corridor!

4 - DD and I cooked asparagus omelette for all of us and we ate it with the homegrown pea shoots that Purpleclutterbuck taught me to grow when we met at the last OS meet (thank you!).

5 - DD's BF drove me to the bakery-patisserie where he normally works, even if he had the day off today and he bought (on my behalf) some really nice bread for today and tomorrow, as he gets it half price (and when he works he gets a lot of it for free and always brings me a loaf or two, the sweetheart!).

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Welcome to prophecy-grrl and village life :D
CCP - so sorry to hear about your gran. ((((hugs))))
mollythewestie - well done for not using your credit card. :T
nuttybabe - sorry to hear about your bad day. Hope today was better. ((()))
savingforoz - well done with the raring-to-go-ness with your writing. :T
sparrer - did you win your shabby chic item? What was it? I love shabby chic stuff.
jexy - hilarious posts about your gals. You tell it so well that it's very easy to picture you and them! :D
house elf - ooh your wellies sound gorgeous. I have a pair from a few years ago that have peacock feather print on them. I also saw a great pair in Next today that looked like biker boots.
lilian - Well done on your mixer bargain. Here's to yummy well-risen cakes.
berniesmaster - your neighbour sounds lovely. What a nice thing to do for your kids. :)

Here are mine from yesterday and today:

    Saturday
    1) Rubbish weather meant that we didn't go on the Sea Scouts fun day but DH boarded up the broken shed windows instead.
    2) My super bargain camera that I won on ebay came. It's an older model so I got it really cheap but it has 10x optical zoom and it's fantastic!
    3) Did about 75% of the Flylady's kitchen list including cleaning the oven and hob.
    4) Whoopsied garlic chicken for tea whilst watching Doctor Who.
    5) Having a cuddle with DS2 and hiding his eyes when the scary bits on Doctor Who frightened him.

    Today
    1) Had a pre-booked slot at Kwik Fit to get new rear tyres but when we got there we were at the end of a very, very long list. Made the choice to come back tomorrow and have them done and all went into Norwich instead.
    2) Got lots of things that I needed in Poundland, which meant saving money.
    3) At the library we saw that some of the people from where DH works had some of their artwork in an exhibition. He works with adults with quite severe learning disabilities and where he works is reknowned for the art facilities. The pieces had quite hefty price tags on - hope they sell as the artists get all of the money.
    4) DS1 went off to play warhammer at Games Workshop.
    5) Enjoyed watching DS2 camping it up trying on sun glasses and hats on in the clothes shops and dancing around in front of the mirror.

    Enjoy your evening everyone.
