Acey, please try and reassure your sister from someone who had 15 years of nursing and knows a little about how it works (not meaning to sound patronising hun, trying to help a little if I can).

I will try and be diplomatic, but politics of the NHS was a major factor in me leaving!

Its a new financial year... new budget... I will get off my soap box!

Basically, now she has had the initial investigations, she is in "the system" and so will be treated accordingly, its often initial investigations that take the time. Once they are complete, the consultant can review them. I could well be wrong, and dont quote me, but quite often, its those investigations that take the time, and its likely (tho not impossible) that the consultant hasnt even seen the results, its just that the initial stuff is now done ( I know MRI wait lists can be stupidly long and it infuriates me when people simply "dont turn up" without notice as thats a spot gone and it happens ALOT!) so the consultant, now has the results of tests and can see her with an informed opinion.

If he had seen her sooner, she would still have had to undergo the waiting lists for the investigations he needed to see in order to diagnose.

If he saw her prior to tests, especially back related (I have back issues due to years of nursing!) it would have likely been a 2 minute " go for these tests, see you when we have the results" not his fault, and patients often have the reaction your sis has had as a result, but in reality, not a good/ efficient use of resources according to the buisness managers - and i do see the point, I just also saw so many people like your sister, worrying needlessly as they didnt knwo the system. (please dont judge this comment, I think our system sucks from the inside and the outside for alot of reasons!)

Anyhow, if she had seen him prior to the investigations, she may not have been so panicked, its perhaps alot to do with the fact that she didnt, she now is in the system with her results so has an appointment to review the results.

Im not saying its right for it to be that way, but try and reassure her, its the system not her, and its likely she has no need to panic, she is simply being treated now they have the info they need to diagnose.
hth, even if it seems a bit waffley. Let us know how it goes and good to hear your pleasures, missed your positivity :)

  • Acey and Jexy, I`d just like to add my bit -am also a nurse, I`m still in NHS (hospital, I growl a lot but love my job so still there, for my sins!) totally agree with what Jexy said there, this sounds like my SIL`s case all over again. Acey I hope your sister gets sorted soon and may feel reassured in the meantime, Bless her!

    My OS pleasures today...
    1) Had a LOVELY shift, a rare one in that all my allocated patients doing well, no real hassle to get through the shift feeling that I`d done Everything to my satisfaction. Didn`t feel I`d rushed anyone today. Lovely feeling.
    2) Stuck up for a great junior Dr who is very caring when she was getting hassled by a manager (GRRR!) and the latter backed off!
    3) Went off for my break (to my car) feeling hot & sticky, and cooled down in lovely light rain. Sometimes rain is really NICE!
    4) Came home and did a mountain of washing up. It`s okay,I know, sad, but I quite LIKE washing up! It`s calming and methodical. I put a small pork leg roast in while I was doing it, and got the Crackling perfect. I feel that crackling is `hit & miss`, and always works best if I FEEL good when I do it!
    5) Nice chat with DS this evening, some recent tensions seem to be resolving.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Not such a good day, seems a few of us are having a bit of a tough time just now :(. Heard this pm that my exOH, who's in Devon, has been moved into a side ward as he has some sort of infection after his hip replacement last week (bad enough that he had the op on Weds and had a fall on Fri , and hallucinated for 3 days because of the high dose of Tramadol he was given), now this.Tests being done but according to the SN I spoke to results won't be back for 3 days. Also my dear friend in Beijing, who has Alzheimers, memory was noticeably deteriorating when we spoke today. Again they're saying it's to do with the meds he's being given for cancer. Now the copd is being a beetch so I'll annoy the gp for more anti-b's and steroids tomorrow. And so on and so on and so forth...

    However I can muster 5 :D, so...
    1. Postie brought me £15 High Street vouchers for doing surveys, which have joined my Christmas stash.
    2. Still £120 up on my April budget, less than a day to go now (Jexy look at the calendar! ;)) so everything x'd I'll make it
    3. Made a delish meat free dinner with potatoes and roasted roots, with enough for tomorrow as well
    4. Stripped the bed and put the spare duvet, which I have under the quilted mattress cover, on the line and gave it a good beating to get rid of any dust and puff it up. In true MS style the combination of the two is just as good as any expensive mattress topper, almost like sinking into a feather bed. And I have lovely fresh sheets to sleep in tonight :)
    5. Sorted out the airing cupboard and filled a bag with linen to take to the charity shop in the morning

    Night night, sleep tight

DAGNAMMIT! I was off to bed! Then, Spar posted ( its her fault!)

I TRULY have no clue what date it is ! The ONLY reason I know what day it is, is that we have coloured day stickers to stick onto food tubs for the day we made them! ( I soooo need a day off!)

The story is true, but also wanted to try and make you smile, and hope things get better soon.

Thats my excuse for the date mix up spar and im sticking to it!

    34 hours to go!

Hugs to all that need them ((()))

Jexy, yes, I agree, I definitely had dodgy taste back then, and I'm not sure it's improved a great deal since!

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Reading 2 books lent to me by a friend. Free reading - love it!

    2. My tummy feeling better - it felt a bit out of sorts, due I'm sure to the run of 5 days where I went out for a meal every day!

    3. Good day at work, getting stuff done and knowing that I will reach my April targets.

    4. Having a lazy. relaxed evening - I don't get many of those.

    5. Another email from my friend in the States. Hope to get to see her sometime.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • Jexy - I love your replies to everyone :A. Here is the recipe I tried: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1412035#post1412035, like I said, next time I might add some chilli or mustard to give it some kick. Or maybe pour a cheese sauce over the mixture as it was quite dry. But it was a great way of getting DH, who normally hates vegetables, to eat his vegies!

    Here are mine for yesterday:

    - losing another 1 lbs!
    - Having a lazy day catching up with recorded TV programmes.
    - DD's car seat finally arriving. We had the order cancelled by one shop as they couldn't get stock in, so had to re-order from another one. I was starting to think we would never get one!
    - Another new recipe for tea, and a completely vegetarian meal which is good for our diet. (Recipe HERE for bean burgers, although I halved the mixture and it was still more than enough for the 2 of us). We had the burgers with HM tomato salsa and new potatoes.
    - Rainy day meant the plants were watered for free and without effort!

    Good Morning one and all!

Feeling chirpy this morning due to OH getting in very late last night and sleeping on the sofa so not to wake me so I had a lovely spreadeagled, undisturbed night of sleep :A

Hugs to those who are going through bad times :grouphug:

Jex You have me giggling at my desk again! :rotfl: The allotment website is www.mylittleallotment.co.uk - I will try to update it soon- need to take some uptodate pictures!

Savingforoz I think I need to take from your example of having a productive day at work... just maybe not today- it is Friday afterall!! :p

sparrer Sorry things are bad for you at the moment, I hope everything improves and that ex OH makes a speedy recovery

    Kitchenbunny Welcome back

Ladyhawke every PA needs a good rant I think, it's difficult being in the middle and being the messenger too- unfortunately I don't have close colleagues to rant (men don't seem to rant!) so I bore OH with it instead :rotfl:

CCP which company do you get your boxes through? How does price compare to the supermarket? :o

My five for the day are:

-Charity shop perusing at lunch (I need a dress for a wedding, want to buy a CS one and modify/ tailor it for something individual)
-Take up a pair of trousers that have always been ankle swingers to make some tailored shorts
-Eat chilli for dinner made in Wednesday's bulk cooking bonanza
-Make HM canapes for DMs party tomorrow
-Make a shopping list for the ikea trip and actually stick to it (for once:eek:!!)

Hope you all have a good day.

Good to see you back, Shadowsfall!
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • Sorry, have been M.I.A for most of the week.

emilyka - good luck with giving up!
Belated birthday wishes for Saving for Oz, Kittikins and Tealady :D.
Mollythewestie - great news about your DH's job :T
ccp - I met Screaming Lord Sutch years ago when I had a stall at Portobello market (he lived round there). He was a lovely man and came back later in the day with two Monster Raving loony Party £million notes for me and my friend. I like the idea of 99p coins!
jexy - loving the sound of your home made salmon and cream cheese ravioli. yummmm
Newlywed - hope your interview went well today.
kitchenbunny - loving the sound of your pasta sauce in teh slow cooker. Is there a recipe or can you basically guess what to put in?
Acey and sparrer - ((((hugs)))) for you both. I hope your rubbish times will be behind you very, very soon.

Here are some of mine from the past few days:

    1) I gave in and allowed the boys to try Doctor Who's favourite food fishfingers and custard (not on the same plate but they did dip the fishfingers in the custard). They loved it!
    2) Bought myself a cheap exercise ball and some wrist/anklwe weights to supplement my fitness workout. I'm starting to actually notice the difference which really cheers me up.
    3) A couple of NSDs this week.
    4) The continuing warm weather with the occasional showers (good for the garden).
    5) At DS1's request we had an Italian night last night. Started off with some hm minestrone (more like a main course - very filling), followed by nettle pesto tagliatelle and ending with a chocolate tart and ice cream. It was all very tasty. And I surprised myself by being very restrained with the choc tart!
    6) Lots of great cookery progs - Heston's Gothic Feast, Jamies does Stockholm and of course, Come Dine with Me. :j

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
