2.Delicious home cured bacon from the village bakers with a neighbours free-range eggs for breakfast.
3.all the washing done
4. the sun is shining after a lovely drop of rain
5. the cherry trees are blossoming."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
1) Lost a little bit of weight last week. It's mostly due to not eating chocolate and crisps. However, I'm really enjoying the big salads for lunch. It feels very virtuous.
2) Mum's birthday do yesterday. She said come for a cup of tea and cake but we ended up staying much longer. Both my brothers were there, with partners, so it felt like a big family celebration.
3) Looking round my brother's house afterwards. They've worked extremely hard on a fairly risky property and it's coming up lovely.
4) Nothing to cook tonight as we didn't have tea yesterday. There's even half a bottle of wine.
5) Managed to find enough for lunch money this morning. It was actually my birthday money from my brother but I can pay myself back later.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Second attempt at posting. (Fridays attempt to post disappeared into the ether, and I haven't had a chance since!). Anyway, good job it disappeared as it was probably full of frustration and self pity as I had had a bad day!
So, recent pleasures........
1. Friday morning was early swimming training for DD. It was so pleasant in the park next to the pool that I decided to sit in the car and do some marking, while watching the birds and the bunnies. Watched a beautiful sunrise and saw Mr Foxy on his way home. (Sorry if that scares any of you with 'Girls').
2. On the subject of hens. Dropped DD at her bus stop and continued to work. As I got to a big island under the motorway, I thought I was halucinating. In the middle of the roundabout were 6 hens and a cockrel!:rotfl:When I had stopped laughing, I decided to report it at the local Police station. It must have given them a laugh if nothing else!
3. Saturday was DD birthday. Spent the whole day tidying house and garden. She was very happy as it seems to have been a success.(We stayed home in case of emergencies, but kept a low profile). No major damage to life or property:)
4. Spent Sunday tidying up after party and planting potatoes. Had to wait until after the party as they wanted a bonfire where the veg patch is located.
5. Went to friends house for tea and to meet their 4 new hens. I am sooooo jealous!
There were lots more over the last few days, but these were the most fun!!:j Strangely Hen orientated! However, just to spoil my cheery mood, they announced at work today that OFSTED will be in on Wednesday:eek: so I will see you all on Friday!
Take care, I will be reading if not posting. :A HE x0 -
Evening all.
I've had a quiet afternoon at work and made the mistake of reading some of the more... ummm... interesting threads that have appeared over the past few days. I'm not going to comment on the rights and wrongs of who said (or didn't say) what, but the whole thing has left me slightly depressed. I've now decided to adopt what might be the called the "la la la, I can't hear you" approach and just not read anymore of the debate.
So - five good things about my day:
1) After the - shall we say - full and frank exchange of opinions elsewhere on the board, coming on to this thread to find it's still the same friendly, supportive place it's always been. And long may it remain so!
2) The oatmeal and raisin cookies a colleague brought into the office today - D-R-O-O-L is the only description I can offer. It's just a shame they co-incided with my attempt to be hyper-healthy and just have a small salad for lunch - it was a bad plan as I was starving again by mid-afternoon and succumbed to the Call of the Cookie.
3) I left my washing out all day while I was at work, it didn't rain, and nearly everything's dry.
4) Some more of my seeds have germinated - I might have a veggie patch after all at this rate.
5) Easy dinner tonight as I didn't eat the meal I defrosted for last night's dinner (I just wasn't hungry), so all I've got to do is cook a jacket tato and some veg, heat up my casserole, and I'm done.
Now I'm feeling a bit more cheerful:
house elf - Good luck with the OFSTED inspection!
Patchwork Quilt - WD on your weight loss. :j
zarazara - mmm, bacon! And cherry trees, which are prettier and decidely lower calorie.
sparrer - I've never seen a red-flowered broom, only ones in yellow and orange shades - it sounds lovely. I'm very fond of broom as it grew around the edges of the playing field at my junior school, and me and my friends used to eat our packed lunches under it during the summer. I only have to smell broom flowers to develop a craving for cream cheese and tomato sandwiches! :rotfl:
Winchelsea - that's very OS of you, using lavender clippings as a free in-car air freshener.Hope you have a lovely time visiting your friend.
emilyka - WTG on giving up smoking. :T
jexy - (from yesterday) - I wouldn't worry too much about your lack of success with seeds - my dad's a fantastic gardener and he's really struggling this year, too. I think it just hasn't been a good year for growing veg so far - hopefully things will improve now it's getting warmer.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all
Still not feeling right. Was determined to shake myself out of it today then dh got really ill so have been running up and down stairs after him all day. he has just got out of bed now!!!
And, CCP I agree, the continuing debate (you all know what i mean!!!) is just depressing but lovely to be on this thread!! Been checking it all day to cheer me up!! :rotfl:
Jexy - That was a really nice thing you said. And I just want to say that we all do appreciate you taking the time to reply to everyone.
Sparrer - Dont you worry, i will be making alot more cinnamon bread/toast! And i bet your house was sparkling after using alot of vinegar!!
Right, mine for today
1 The sun shinning
2 Cinnamon bread for breakfast (actually it was mid morning as no time for breakfast because i had to sort kids out and get stuff for dh and phone nhs direct etc etc)
3 Sweet & sour chicken homemade out the freezer for lunch and beef casserole out of freezer for tea.
4 Getting todays flylady done. yay! :T
5 Planted my broccoli and cauli shoots outside as they had all started to wilt! Also planted more salad leaves seeds. And put my small tomato plant outside. If he survives I will move my large plant out there as he has 1/2 inch left before he is too big for my window sill!:p
hhmmmm, cant decide on ironing, sock monkey making or vegging out infront of tv with chocolate!! I think chocolate will win tonight!!!!!!!0 -

Evening all!
I feel a lot perkier than I did this morning. I just had one of those mornings where I just wanted to cry for no reason.Luckily no-one upset me so I was able to get through the day tear-free.
Jexy - he is called Eamon because that apparently means Protector of Wealth in gaelic and he has shamrocks all over him so it seemed fitting.
Saving for Oz - :bdaycake:Happy birthday!!! Hope that you are having a wonderful day. I have had lots of cyber cake and real cake for you!!
Sparrer - hmmm... keenness for excersise??? Not so sure about that... jitsu is a complete adreniline rush once you get to the higher levels and I miss that more than the actual excersise!
Newlywed - good luck for the interview tomorrow. Will be thinking of you... let us know how you get on.
Emilyka - good luck with giving up smoking. I luckily have never smoked so I can't even imagine how difficult it is to stop.
So my pleasures for today:
1) My ex-boss had a baby boy over the weekend - 3 weeks early and healthy.
2) Sold my sofa - the lovely people came to collect this evening so at last I have some more space in my lounge! Hurrah!:)
3) Home before 6pm :j
4) Booking my flights to Edinburgh for my friend's wedding in October. At least that's out of the way now.
5) NSD :j
6) Paid the coins from the nutter cleaner into the bank - my lovely colleague helped me bag it up.
7) Made little pasties using the weird stew from last night... really looking forward to them for supper with the salad I had made for lunch but didn't eat
8) Made another little goats cheese and caramelised onion tart for lunch tomorrow.
9) Am also baking some banana bread
10) email from my eldest brother asking me round for lunch on Sunday, alond with my other two bothers and SIL
Wow - 10 pleasures and my morning started so miserably.
Enjoy the sunshine
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
emilyka well done on giving up smoking
house elf good luck with the OFSTED inspection
Jexy I've just read more of PenPen's post and been compelled to use the 'ignore' button. Sorry I didn't put dd's cuddles in my Sunday pleasures, lol! Does it make things better to tell you that the chocolate croissants were a pressie from dd as she decided she didn't fancy eating them after buying them on Saturday
Kittikins what a great post, its lovely to hear you and your dd had such a great time
savingforoz Happy Birthday!!
My five+
1) breakfast in bed courtesy dp
2) cuddles from dd
3) posting some seeds I had to spare to another mse'r
4) walking in the sunshine at lunchtime
5) some more seeds germinating
6) the Gadget Show"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Mine for today:
1. Collecting my rather dead looking strawberry roots/plants from the post office depot they had been returned to when i was not home on Saturday, and planting them this morning in troughs.
2. Taking Dad to the doctors for his breathing problems and our returning him home with his third course of steroids and antibiotics in three weeks. Poor dad. It hurts to see the people we love suffer, but that hurt can also make us thankful for the blessing of having them in our lives.
3. Just about garnered the energy to sort my compost heap out. It's now covered with plastic and will be watered throughout summer and autumn if necessary to stop it drying out, then i'll turn it (or bribe someone else to do it for me as i think it will be too strenuous for me) in Autumn/Winter and hopefully by next summer it will have turned into proper, usable compost.
4. I did something today that i don't normally do. Ironing. It is one of my least favourite tasks and i tend to save it all up and do it in one go when there are hardly any clothes left in my wardrobe...but every now and then i have to bite the bullet and ...iron! I don't like the ironing, but i do like the results. Now i have clothes in my wardrobe :-)
5. Taking a look around my small back garden this evening and marvelling that I take such pleasure in it after all these years of never really going in it before, except to hang washing or let the dog out.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -

Darling hubby finaly deciding that he makes better faggots than Mr T.
actually feel like a bit of batch cooking in the morning - so beef in ale pies and turkey in gravy are calling.
