Monday's Pleasures.
1. A walk Along the canal in the spring sunshine.
2. A shiny penny picked up in the street this morning. £3.41 in found money so far this year
4. Stroking the barmy Border terriers ears, dark brown and softer than the most expensive velvet.
5. The allotment robin, head cocked, eyes following the spade turning the soil before swooping down to feed.0 -
True story. I am long time friends with the girl Buddy Holly dated for 5 years before she broke his heart and married another guy. She lives in my little town. She is still friends with his sibs and has pictures of him that have never been published.

1. Catching up slowly with people and tasks. Still learning to realise that not much really, really matters, comparing our lots with those of so many others'.
2. Hometown Enzed friends equally tweaking/installing themselves in garden room. They're off to Cyprus, Greece, Gallipoli for a long mth towards end of this one. Then big van purchase and fit out, for next 4+yrs' living/travelling. Garden room will always be here as touchdown base.
3. Hearing about graphene to sieve salt from seawater. Remarkable human mind and intelligence and positive application as small counter to current opposite. Don't start, &.
4. Heard woodpecker and Enzed friends heard it, too.
5. Feeling comfortable with them not minding &'s pared-down lifestyle, in turn sharing their own cs finds pleasures from yesterday. Enrolled them as My Waitrosers already:-) and we compared notes on yday's 1st qualifying spend, as now required for FREE drink. & onion, they 2 'nana's. AND, they've seen the kowhai in bloom behind the Grafton Centre, outside the little PO. &has pic of it blooming as screensaver on this phone. Also remember id'g it for them years ago, so amazed was & to see it. They thought then a Kiwi temp. postie may have been responsible. It's big, old, established now, a fabulous NZ native with bright golden yellow hanging kakabeak flowers. Don't know how to attach pic. via mob.

Noticed lots of 'good's in yesterdays post - which is, errr, good....milasavesmoney wrote: »True story. Google tells me that she is likely to be the wonderfully named Echo Macguire?? Sounds like a female character from Marvel...But, wow, truly a small world.
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Went for coffee with MiL - she was leaving at lunch time so i vowed not to let her get maudlin. Kept her busy or me busy for the whole morning so there wasn't too much sitting around.
2. finally got DD to the doctors to order a thyroid test, not sure when the bloods can be taken at the moment due to ridiculous appointment system, but the ball is rolling
3. Dropped MiL at the station and went for lunch in emaness (Mila, Marks and Spencers department store, otherwise known as M&S) with friends.
4. Tried on my dress for nephew's wedding in May. Bought it in a sale (emaness) last summer for £14, paired with a jacket i bought in a charity shop. Last of the big spenders, me. I said to DD "I don't want to look too 'auntie' " she said i looked chic french - RESULT. Though she does know that that is what i want to hear
Looked at dumb fascinator / hatinator things in shop ... £50 :eek: I am not paying that.
5. Had already made shed loads of lasagne in the morning for tea. So tea was straightforward, and we had left over salad from Sunday's BBQ. OH and i cracked open a bottle of wine (on a school night, too:beer:) as 'we're worth it'. Watched the excellent Broadchurch.
Have a great day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Evening all, getting dark already!
Work day number 2 , 'twas okay.
Then had to go to bank. Seems I have the only bank in Australia that demands probate! Regardless of whether it's needed ! Very nice lady though rather than Friday's gorgon!
One account un-jointed as we had the one and only direct debit coming from one main joint account going into our joint high interest savings account...they couldn't cancel the joint aspect because of this! Bank person could not believe the bureaucracy...so she had to cance the direct debit...they will take OHs name off account and then... wait for it ...start a new direct debit for same blooming amount! Such a stupid rigmarole. I will probably change banks in the future as I've not been happy with this whole horrid experience.
So then had to traipse back to solicitors who will deal with sizeable cheques and hopefully I will have sufficient funds to live off in a couple of weeks!
He is exasperated over my bank's decision.
Then met DD2 at train station as she had a medical appointment and headed there. This is at the town where we were recently at hospital. Sat on the platform waiting for train home and watched 'our ' balcony at 'our' room so that was rather emotional.
Ever so glad to finally be home. More paperwork done and son kindly posted for me . Chat with my sister.
Nice texts from our pain doctor , we became more friendly when OH was in hospital and we've kept in touch since. Texts from other friends too which was nice.
Tea is meatballs supplied by friends and spaghetti.
Have a good Tuesday.0 -

3. Tranquil, peaceful home. Priceless:)0 -
No amount of trying will get this to be correct! Still not available from BoP palace. More later. Get into to them there Mhags.
5 BoPsie has rung inn with the latest on the build. Shower is fitted and passed the BoPsie test. Bath is a mess. Allegedly it has been leaking for eons yet had not made it through to the kitchen! More later.
4 Excited about the visit this weekend to Shuttleworth, skeggie, and Steels Corner House. BoP is readied for the three course challenge. Prawns, Large Haddock and chips, jelly and ice cream. More later.
3 Apols for not reacting vividly to the posts. BoP is still in lock out. MSE softies are … Just like the picture that BoP correctly placed on Buck of Face the other day!
2 Night I have to scoop up BoPsie from her work. She is earning chits of wobbleade for our apple of big tour. More later.
And if you think you had problems …
Latest
Not looking good inn the bathroom. BoPsie will have to increase her rates, get the beans on toast inn. Please send wobbleade chits via pal of pay to … Please do not use that union of western to transfer your wobbleade chits.0 -
Sympathies on the bath leak, BoP. We had that happen, couldn't claim on insurance either, I forget why, possibly because we'd claimed for something similar some years before.
Ours did go through to the ceiling.
1. The p i s saladiere made with the left over bread dough was gorgeous. I got the whole lot done from start to finish in 30 mins by food processing the finely sliced onions, then microwaving them rather than sauteing, by not including tomatoes, and by having a fast oven.
All this culminated in the pleasure of having a new, exceptionally MSE recipe to add to my list of favourites. I had long meant to try Jocasta Innes's French Onion tart but definitely prefer this lower calorie version of mass onion intake.
2. Slept well, 4.5 hours being in my chair, then the same in bed.
3. Looking at limited supply of washing gel, debated making laundry gloop, then realised that the concentrated laundry hand wash gel sat on the laundry shelf for the last 10 years or so would do perfectly - and it did.
4. Sunny and warm in the back garden, the rotary line opened out for the first time since October. Usually this is a fraught process as the loops of slack line hook themselves over adjacent arms in our high winds (the expensive cover I bought didn't fit, although it was supposed to).
The resulting tangle tests the patience of a saint. Well, only two loops did it this time, and the line went straight up. This particular rotary line is a Leifheit and was horrendously expensive, but was one given to review, thankfully.
We still had to buy a ground spike, which cost more than a similar full set of line and spike in Wilko's.* Anyway it enters its fifth summer intact and usable.
5. Kitchen mat washed and on line. Bike chain oiled.
Additional pleasures at Mila's links with music legends.
*For Mila: A discount store that sells just about everything that isn't food and clothing for personal care and the house and garden.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

VJsmum, I bought a fascinator (always thought it was a weird name not very fascinating ) in £land for going to the races later this year although it was a few months ago. They do some reasonable ones at claires (claires.co.uk)

Not a great couple of days, to be honest, but I have now been signed off the remainder of work on compassionate grounds - so that's it...
Pleasures for today:
1) "My" student was back and on good form, breaking into song from time to time as she worked!
2) Went to see my school friend after work for a cup of tea and lots of food.
3) Work ended.
4) Smaller son has not had a good week at school but he seemed happier as the evening went on - we played football then he played FIFA online with his friends. I read him a story until he fell asleep and he has just woken up to say "Where's the book? Where's the cat gone?" when I put the book away and the cat out half an hour ago!
5) In bed with 1 hwb.
So no idea what will happen now re work in the future, money. I have 2 presents and cards here for "my" 2 pupils and not sure how to get them to them. I think I should write a short speech for the head to read out but these things can wait until tomorrow. Have also left my sandwich box in the fridge at work!0
