5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Options
Comments
-
1. Watched rugby and we won - almost lost it again at the end. Eventually got there as bus replacement service was one bus I think after 20 minutes wait we caught a normal bus.
2. Enjoyable meeting friends there and it wasn't too cold.
3. Nice walk to the station not too muddy but more orchards are being scrubbed. The fields look totally different to how they did a couple of years ago.
4. Saw MIL - she was very tired and wouldn't answer any questions she didn't want to as she was too tired. Carers came when we were there and they seemed fine. Efficient, friendly but firm with her. She still won't make any effort to walk or do anything for herself.
5. Long conversation with a friend on the phone.0 -
PK & bumblebeany ..another fan of small notebook here, my old one is full. DS bought me a new one for xmas which has a pen holder on the side as pens seem to disappear in this house ! I use mine for recording meter readings / jotting down recipes & money saving ideas from the lovely people on here, jotting down recipes from tv cookery programmes - I keep it next to my chair in the living room
Saturday pleasures
1. have noticed a loud creaking from my side of the bed when I sit on my side and when I lift my feet to lie downIt stops once I've laid down and doesn't creak when I turn over.
I finally got around to turning my mattress and found that it still creaked on my side. So I then turned the divan base and it didn't creak any more. I found that there were predrilled holes in both ends of the divan base under the fabric for the headboard to be attached so it was a straightforward job to remove the headboard from one end and attach to the other end .. and no more loud creaking :T
2. Broomstick - I did my 2017 calendar last week, but I finally got around to framing one picture from the old one using an old pine picture frame I already had - DS bought me a Countryfile 2016 calendar last year and I have kept the picture of the laughing hedgehog which is so cute
3. made another small dent in the washing pile
4. caught up on more recorded tv - midsomer murders, death in paradise plus Christmas specials live at the Apollo and QI whilst drinking tea and scoffing some of DM's delish date and walnut cake (thinking of DP's probably now sunning themselves on the beach)
5. roast chicken dinner with DS & his GF. Used more of the Christmas sprouts - one portion left0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
House sale OCT 2022 = NOW MORTGAGE FREE 🤗
House purchase completed FEB 2023 🥳🍾 Left work. 🤗
Retired at 55 & now living off the equity £10k a year (until pensions start at 60 & 67).

Waving languidly from the land of heat.
1-100 OH is home and I have been home too. So nice to just potter, potter and do little things that need doing. ( I do miss that aircon though!)
Cooked steak in slow cooker and had a belated NYD meal with OH.
Had to drive for first time in weeks. DD2 train was cancelled and she had work, car did a bit of a squeal but got me there and back.
Dropped her off outside my old work and noticed ex boss car was there so popped in and said hello. Had a chat ( cafe has been closed over christmas break) and just felt thankful that I no longer work there.
Did the tiniest bit in garden. It's just too hot to be out there but deadheaded my hydrangeas and geraniums and gave everything a good water.tomorrow's to be a bit cooler ( high 20's rather than high 30's) so shall try and get a little bit done each day if I can.
My dog, such a happy boy that all his family are home. Too hot for him too. Crunches on ice blocks to keep him cool.
Have a good Sunday
ETAdd loving Mr Piano ...what a talented addition to your household!0 -
mhagster, as I unwrapped and "arranged" in a jam jar a bunch of flowers, I thought of you & your family. Just so glad you are being fed & that there are Haggis cuddles galore. (Svelte is overrated for hug purposes.) And now Home! Yes! Hugs & blessings! <Must research cloning - Mr Piano seems a good start?!>
Frith - blast over Thermos - my utter condolences. Not forgotten crunchy coffee steaming from the tartan on a cold day, alluring & undrinkable. Hoping counselling will help but so glad it's spotted & being watched over promptly. Well done!
Dundeedoll - the bishops suite sounds glorious, but what is the food like? M'father attended a breakfast meeting at Lambeth Palance & it was deeply frugal & austere - after our imaginings of a Bishops Breakfast it was a distinct surprise. Hoping own bed still restful harbour?! Much intrigued by crowns & crackers (blinking Quaker upbringing, what other fun have I missed!?).
Purple kitten, we're all struggling with out of whack clocks too! Still by Tuesday Everyone wil be back in the rut & with luck sleep & meals will slot in as usual. Hurrah for "cleanish house" - a phrase I will suggest to my family. Husband crooned over knitted headgear of baby in Father Brown - so 1950s he approved. I nearly fell over that he was observing baby clothes, but love the shared pleasure! I love other's corned beef hash too! Cling to that Costco list!
mcculloch - some days there's a book on a shelf for a reason - I am so glad you had the right one!
Villagelife, I'm sorry your family (well, MIL) is being difficult & I hope it all comes out in the wash soon. Family can be a huge blessing & a right stabbing pain in the nostril. Orchards being scrubbed? What will protect the soil, then?
Ampersand - may Aunt get every message (what is it with fens & phones?!), may Meriva learn cooperative ways (hurrah lunnettes, blast key), awed at marmelades & alongside you on appreciating "bookseller from hell" (must try to get across, tell offspring to either pay up or visit library, & dive in!) Scarcity of jamjars truly ridiculous (Wilko doz small £5.50 Compak 85 8oz for £18 Before postage hobby craft hexagon 12 for £8 but eyes open for sales)
BoP - am also having vivid mental images of leg stretch. Alongside exotic footwear (website name escaping me but someone wll remind me shortly?). May need to lie down...
MrsLW - your ongoing ability to see beauty even in frost & cold is inspirational! Hurrah Zebra building Lego & Orley extra hungry - so much love & joy & care in the household!
Skint yet again - so impressed at the no takeaway & really wishing employer wasn't shambling ahead with this wasteful idea. Hurrah sorting creaky bed!
Broomstick - being able to have supper out of the freezer is a real OS Pleasure, it's all own reward without being oversalted with virtue. Filling in calendar with all known about - lovely caveat & how else to be prepared?!
pennywitch - a proper key cutter is a gem, but the sound of offspring singing unawares is a real treat!
LaineyT - so glad your mum is getting the care she needs & thus you are able to relax a bit yourself. Also that waitrose appear to being graceful about their failures.
bumblebeany - awed at notebook useage! And at scrubbing the hob (ahem, must get a round to that).
OS Pleasures recently
There is a definite music in the recycling bag. It doesn't *sound* like we saw the new year in on cola and sundry fizzy cans. (I was too drowsy to wrestle the Riesling.)
Family gurgling with laughter at TV of bears lunging for salmon. They opine the bear is my spirit animal, explaining my love of salmon & other seafood.
Family wincing as lioness comes distinctly second to a pursued giraffe & gets stomped on. I don't usually root for The Tall but this was an Elegant high speed hoof.
Gingerbread fiend now trying to get into sachet of icing without making a hideous mess. Unsuccessfully.
Oooh! Sherrinford reference... Sherlock-fan son, not yet up on canon, queried it & sat back crooning over idea to gnaw on. And more tonight, seemingly, though school night bedtime etc - ach Sherlock...
There's much that is very appealing to Mark Williams's Father Brown. Not as short or as plain as the canon Father, but similarly endearing.
Crisp air, clear Moon!
Car had a bad overheating spell - happily four litres of coolant sorted it, we hope in time.
"Couldn't imagine eating an elephant - what if was chocolate on the inside?" He follows a fine old family tradition - I'm told I wept in a Californian museum when told the gold did not contain chocolate....
Decorations down, leftover from Christmas amaryllisisises started, rtc tulips on windowsill looking cheerful & best pretext for belated wassailing heard "how do apple trees know what date it is?!" I shall wassail them when I have the toast handy. (It did help though, last year!)
Two tiny white cyclamen have survived the weather despite being in the garden - I'm delighted & a bit surprised.
Thoroughly enjoyed "Kubo and the two strings" - a beautiful children's animated film that has plenty to entrance adults too.
Famberly bickering happily over posible throwing knives. I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, looking forward to learning how to throw m'self.
Hugs, blessings, flowers, hwbs, loving hearts surrounding all as wish - I'm being paged to get the shopping. (Famberly.)0 -
1. MHags' OH being back at home
2. Saw Chap last night. Listed some books on Ama$on and sold others via one of the selling sites. Initially he was disappointed at the low prices being offered, but he soon realised that any money is better than none, as otherwise the books would be sitting gathering dust on his shelves. Still another couple of hundred to go through, but I think he wants to read most of them first before trying to get shot of them!
3. We watched Speed and laughed about the implausibility and how much better Father Ted's milk float episode was
4. Had a lovely cup of tea and a chat with a couple of mummy friends whilst our dds were preparing speeches for a school competition.
5. Prior to that, had some me time in Co$ta, drinking a lovely mocha whilst reading a fab little book that's given me some great ideas for fun maths lessons. Still working even whilst on me-time. I'd think I need a life, but know I have one
6. Feeling relaxed that DD's netball tournaments don't start up until next Sunday, phew!
7. Bought a lovely grey scarf in Oxfam, it's soooo snuggly.
8. Managed to overcome my disappointment that Arctic roll doesn't taste like it did when I was a nipper.....Chap can finish the rest of the pack0 -
That is what DfV needs! What about the rest of you lot!
5 Guess what, as for some reason we doubled up on snorker fest this weekend. Snorker, best back, mushrooms, haricot beans in tom sauce, brown hash and toast buttered and topped with poached egg. Wolfed down and tea was drunk. Rubs Tum.
4 Last of the Christmas ham being laid between two sheets of proper bread, not that bird seeded variety of artisan variety. Jaffa cake and fresh concentrate of lemon with eua de faucet.
3 Just chopping up the carrot that is being styled as door stops, with toe nailed onion, ready for mince and tatties. A proper dumpling will also be made. Pan gravy and the veg, maybe even cauliflower cheese! More later. Proper foods.
2 Day we took the twenty year old tree of xmas down, with the trimmings. Raffles rounded up the baubles.
I was only pulling my leg about stretching!0 -
1) A beautiful walk round the arboretum this morning despite the mist and drizzle, winter trees are beautiful in their own right. They have a dedicated 'Winter Garden' which is full of different coloured glowing Dogwoods, some huge brambles that have silvery white stems in the winter, beds of Hellibores of different hues and carpets of pink and white tiny cyclamen under some big established trees, a bed of fully out daffodils and many wonderfully scented Viburnum bushes to chase the winter gloom away.
2) In the garden today a huge bumblebee emerged from an open hyacinth flower on the patio covered in pollen and buzzing extremely loudly, beautiful thing but I know he won't survive the cold snap we have coming which makes me sad.
3) He Who Knows has just planted my self fertile PYRAMIDALIS Holly Tree that Nell got me for Christmas in the back garden on the corner of the lawn nearest the patio, I've always wanted a holly that will have berries.
4) Nice walk with Cookie when we got back from the arboretum and having counted it today my usual walk with her is 5,000 steps so half of what I need to do each day.
5) I am wearing one of my new M&S jumpers and it's snug and warm, woohoo!!! just the thing for this weather!0 -
Oh GOOD, thanks Bumblebeany it was just so surprising to see her out and about at this time of year. She spent some of this afternoon just sitting on the wall outside the kitchen door and then went back to the hyacinth and started work again. I love bees, particularly bumbleybees who are so industrious in the borders in the spring and summer and it would appear in January too!!!0

Bumblebunny and Skint: You have inspired me, I am going to use it to jot down cooking and food planning, and doodle in the back.
Kittikins: Love the artic roll comment, reminded me that Dh is also a mouse, any food missing then - ahem mouse had it.
1. I cooked up some cooking bacon lurking about, it made a rather late brunch and I will make some pasta dishes with it.
2. Did 2 loads of washing as there is already a lot hanging about and its murky weather, I caved to usinig the tumble dryer for 1 load.
3. I downloaded a freebie kindle book, and sat on the sofa with a tea, just content for a little while.:o
4. Dinner was from the freezer I got out what I thought as a 35p chicken mini roast last night, but it’s a different yellow sticker of chicken breasts with cheese, but it will go with the leftover mash, sprouts, and cawli nicely.
5. The animals have all been so interactive it’s so lovely, but they are still being caged tonight as they kept us very awake again last night, rolling a golf ball around on our un carpeted bedroom floor.:o
6. I have spied a good for us sky broadband deal thanks to MSE. I have marked it to action next week, cancelling just one of our monthly internet dongles covers the cost. It will be nice to have unlimited access again for less than our current cost.:money:
7. Looking forward to going out tomorrow.:o0 -
Sunday pleasures
1. crumpets with butter for breakfast
2. washed all the pans from our roast dinner yesterday & dishwasher on
3. lots of little jobs done - sewed a hole in the toe of DS's new socks, re-potted our sergeant angel peace lily that somehow survives in our kitchen & removed all the fluff from the Velcro on my wrist splints & gave them a wash. Am planning to wear them at night again as I seem to be sleeping with my hands clenched / curled into tight fists againAlso put away clean washing & Christmas cards bought in the sale for next year.
4. PK - same here ....did load of towels and gave them 30 mins in tumble dryer before finishing off on airers. If I put towels straight from the machine on to the radiators all our windows steam up
5. leftover 5 bird roast from xmas defrosted for dinner with jacket potato and some swede & carrot mash also from freezer & the last of the Christmas sprouts :j0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
House sale OCT 2022 = NOW MORTGAGE FREE 🤗
House purchase completed FEB 2023 🥳🍾 Left work. 🤗
