Good morning, it is Wednesday, sun has risen and blackbird et al are singing loudly. I am just enjoying the peace and quiet of the front room for 10 minutes before I get up and start the day.

Yesterday started with grumbling thunder, coolness and blessed rain. Much needed in the garden ( and just by me in general).

I had made an appointment to get eyebrows waxed but we then had to go to hospital so wasn't going to make it. Combined a dog walk to go and say and lovely salon owner said I will do them right now.

Much waiting around at hospital. Which is difficult at times just to sit and wait. They are busy. They are all happy and kind but we just want to be out of there. It was quite chatty in the bay we were in....sometimes it's quiet and people keep themselves to themselves and you just get a nod on way in and out and others like today was very chatty, which was quite nice for a change.

Home to some christmas cards and a parcel. I do like getting cards. However as people did send them for our m-early christmas I'm not sure how many we will get ....and also people underestimate the time it takes post to get here (2-3 weeks) and we often still get them in January!

Made a savoury mince pie for tea with mashed potatoes, peas and carrots. Put some festive pastry stars all over top of pie.....not sure anyone else noticed though!

Girls went Christmas shopping ....I think on behalf of their lazy brother ....he hands over money , they shop. Hmmmm!

Right, I'd better start the day saying good morning to my doggy.

bop - your 'bedouin traveller' ref and tone[&'s highest approval rating. Polish it well:-)]. takes me straight to the extraordinary Mohed Altrad, which name will also be known to Mrs LW, via Montpellier RFC.

Self-imposed restraint order is not only for car loading/Spits. Also means only 2 more osps permitted today, so -

    4. Blazingest, roundest, orangest, goldenest declining sun over gallops and emporium, at only 1533h. It was a huge, vast stunner and many stopped to watch in silence.

    5. 3 stonking, top quality heavy duty new lidded crates at CS, £2 apiece [if such adjectives can be so applied.] Test-drive will be tmrw+Spits Thurs.

Thankyou all for comments re: car biz. Will be ever so slightly deliberately not thinking about it as I head back to Fens this week...

Very odd mo. this arvo. as I parked in town of horse. [PO end & side, Lainey] Became aware of intense scrutiny. Skint - excellent re FS and Doncaster. Took your lead and went to Lidl this afternoon and now have 19p pots, parsnips and carrots! Sprouts were there too but we wouldn't eat that many.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A bit of a lie in.

    2) Bigger son popped in with the eggs. (Still at their father's but more dissent so not sure if they'll last the week).

    3) More sorting - paperwork, phone calls, cleaned the intricate, fiddly slats and bits of the butcher's block type thing in the kitchen, more washing.

    4) Went to see my friend in town (via Lidl).

    5) Sainsburys man here so my Christmas shopping is 95% done.

    6) Did lots of wrapping whilst watching television including Holby.

    7) In bed with 1hwb (it's gone quite cold out).

    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

Sorry for another bout of MIA. A variety of medical appointments to get me back on the straight and narrow, end of term stuff and - just today - a trip to the dentist to have a painful tooth removed. *sigh*

In the meantime, there are some OS pleasures:

    1) The knowledge that the work done at the dentist was all covered because I've put money aside for such matters. Self-insuring, if you like.

    2) DH and I have had a good sort out of books and general clutter. Loads of it. Really need to take it to the charity shop, but the centre of town is crazy busy at the moment.

    3) The ability to look through recipe books and choose new recipes! LOVELY!

    4) Managing to read books I've had on the shelf for AGES!

    5) The Christmas Radio Times. Love it. Duly circled everything I want to watch. :D

  • 1) Wardrobe sorted out and 'flappy' large tops put into store along with bigger jeans. Pleased to have some space and determined to make the things that fit 'do' until I'm smaller sized but it's looking sparse at the moment!

    2) Trip out with my brother this morning to get Christmas meat and veg, we had a coffee at the farm butchery and found some local russet apples at the farm veg shop along with local fresh walnuts, mmmmmmm yummy!

    3) All jobs set for the day ticked off the 'to do' list, satisfying.

    4) He Who Knows has brought home some lovely sprouts, leeks and parsnips from the allotment, he's a good gardener.

    5) Maisie doggie got me a Christmas present, a lovely basket with an azalea, a cyclamen and ferns in it, how lovely!!!
  • Pleasures for today

    1. Couldn't sleep so I cleaned the bathroom at 6am
    2. and did the rest of the ironing, glad its all done
    3. bacon sarnie for breakfast
    4. went to the range with a friend and stocked up on Christmas cards for next year and another bauble for the tree - all half price
    5. went to the chemist and collected meds for over Christmas and New Year, also picked up a few half price stocking filler chocolates from tesc* express next door for DS. Home again and the rain had stopped so I had a walk via the post box and posted a birthday card to my sister.

Just need to get on with the wrapping now ! My least favourite part.

    Evening all and merry midwinter!

Five pleasures for the recent past:

    1) Parcels ordered containing not expensive presents all arriving when they said they would (or earlier).

    2) DSs put up the tree first thing because they knew they'd be back too late to do it tonight and we always put it up on Solstice. :) Have spent this evening on my own sitting by the woodstove, watching twinkling lights and working. Very snuggly.

    3) Nice chats along the way as I did some errands in the village this afternoon.

    4) Our oven which I thought had broken does seem to work after all it's just that the fan and light seem to have blown. I'll get it sorted after Christmas.

    5) Good phone call as usual with my parents.

    Sweet dreams

    Quick pleasures for today (Wednesday).

    1) A bit of a lie in.

    2) Smaller son went to work on a pheasant shoot - all day - and THEY DIDN'T PAY HIM!!!! Outrageous. My brother gave him half of his pay.

    3) I went to see my aunty and we had fish and chips for lunch.

    4) On to Ikea afterwards for new cushion covers and a hundred more tealights for Storm Barbara and beyond.

    5) Last bits of shopping done. One more tiny thing to buy!

    6) Did present wrapping and watched television.

    7) Didn't bother to light the stove so 2 hwbs tonight as it is 12 degrees in the kitchen.
