Belated happy birthday VJsmum.
Gentle hugs to MHags and Mr MHags.
Hope the car is all better now &.
Grrrrr to non-payment of smaller son Frith, that's outrageous and so kind of your brother to give him half of his earnings for the day.
1. Had a fabulous overnight stay in Bath, chatting, eating and drinking too much with two lovely friends
2. Have been booked in for Easter house-sitting down there, yippee!!
3. They told me that Chap obviously suits me as I light up when I talk about him, lol. I didn't realise it was that obvious
4. Had some delicious edible presents from friends, including amazing star-shaped Welsh cakes, nomnomnom
5. A friend of friend P in Bath gave us a whopping 60% discount in her shop!! It was full of amazing things, but I was very restrained and only bought a unicorn tree decoration
6. All bar DD's presents are wrapped, phew!
7. I've done tons of planning and prepping for next term, but naturally haven't yet planned my observed English lesson or any maths. I'm the queen of procrastination when it comes to maths lesson planning, even though I love teaching it!!
8. Chap and I have set a date.......
for him to come in and help me sort out my classroom for next termHe's as excited as I am about laminating and trimming!

Fire roaring, chestnuts roasting. Santa is on his way! See BoP passim!
5 Jobs a good one and they can do without me until the New Year.
4 Wrapped up for the season. Tarts in, cake iced, biscuits inn. Too much inn. More later
3 And that is it for the year just about. Though BoP recommends if you have sprouts, to put them on the now. Just a minder that when BoP was on his apprenticeship, we used to toss out those with the stalks on into the cattle food bin. They were too difficult to process. So if you buy them, BoP still calls it cattle food!
2 Night we shall be back on the Big Warster Train, later.
Don't go cold turkey0 -
I think the red shoes are beginning to loosen...
Happy belated birthday VJsmum!
Bless the fenny mechanics who have whispered your car into compliance, dear &!
All the best with strong minded sons, Frith, this week & all year round! *Not paid*? Waves virtual pitchfork...
Welcome home DD! Hoping yoghurt & cola restoring you?
Delighted salon owner seized the opportunity to cosset you, mhagster!
Welcome back VickyA - I too am giving the Radio Times a thorough scrutiny...
Broomstick - hurrah parcels arriving & that Oven Works!
kittikins - I adore your sense of humour, even as I retreive the dropped cup of tea
Skint yet Again - all the very best for whatever you've planned to Do with Christmas Day, even if it's curled up with a pile of DVDs & a mug of cocoa.
BoP - hoping your train set arrives on time!
OS Pleasures recently
Lovely model shop had the sheet of brass I'd bought last time & misplaced (left in store) awaiting my return.
The annual letter has been sent, (by email), & it seems it makes folk smile. Well, I've been trying to herd love through a photocopier for years...
The little artificial tree is up & son has stashed the pfeffernussen (german gingerbread) underneath. I do wonder if this will protect the gingerbread from marauding siblings but agree with the idea.
Discussing the odds of a white Christmas in Manchester & the view from a bald colleague is we've more chance of him growing a fringe...
Waitrose assistant understanding love of nice bags for life has promised to leave a handful of her own stash for me tomorrow as their stock has all gone. [Insuff vocab of praise, she remembered & it is delightful!]
"Do you think he'll go postal?" "I think he'll go ParcelForce: so we've three days to get out of the way...."
The bounce in the step as you go home for Christmas!
Candle lit for you & all your family mhags, and another for all who post here.
"I've got mental muscles - they're in a jar" - a notion that explains much...
Son has Vivaldi's Winter streaming through his gadget - beautiful!
Gurgling with laughter at the young Neil Gaiman (aged 8) wanting a Christmas Tree despite his Jewish family, and the womenfolk around him shrewdly not debating whether wise men And shepherds apply (seems the gospels contradict each other & you can almost see the fervent bright eyes just Waiting to Tell You All About It). Decades later, I'd almost like to sit & listen as he is a brilliant storyteller, but love the Nativity with Everyone I was raised on.
Enjoying reading up on buckwheat pancakes, as have a jar of lumpfish roe & a ys pack of salmon... Will be interesting to see if it tastes Anything like the ones I remember from the school trip to Russia decades ago!
Looking around, I can see 8 sorts of seed awaiting the coming year, & there are more packets hidden in tins. Anticipation is sometimes a pleasure & remembering the getting here a definite one!
Son's expression as I scooped a second then a third scoop of pistachio nuts into a bag. He adores them, & could barely believe his mutterings of "more, more!" were being heeded. (They weren't - my beloved had spotted them & said "get a big bag full" - the eyes widening explained for whom...)
Big hugs to all who indulge in that sort of thing, hearty handshakes, tender blessings & cheerful grins & waves all also within my capabilities, and may the next few days be as magical as you remember them from childhood, or dared dream.
(Should it all go a bit sideways, feel free to come & join me in the seasonal home for the bewildered! Paper hats, humming snatches of carols & not quite sliding [more leaping] off the diet to try new things & old things & [distinctly] odd combinations, usual...)0 -
Big Warster train is due. More later.0

5) Popped to see the hens.
6) Saw smaller son briefly.
7) No sign of Storm Barbara yet.
8) School friend phoned and she is coming round on Christmas Eve.
9) Went to parents' and had a couple of games of scrabble.0 -
Back home (here) for Christmas and hopefully for good.
Today had some great pleasures in it.
They did get a bit thin on the ground for a while, I felt as if I was taking without giving whilst I was here.
1. Visits from not one but three of my closest friends, all independently. They all know each other but rarely meet. Three were here together. Popping in to exchange festive greetings and some lovely cards too.
2. The visit of one friend enabled me to give some gifts for her first grand-daughter, and I saw photos of the little angel on the phone. My friend has two extremely lively, very roughy-toughy grandsons, this latest addition is a lovely contrast.
3. Wrapping mountain tackled. Usually I use gift bags but this year, I found the paper and tags I'd put aside in previous years.
I also had a sellotape dispenser and sellotape to review, useful.
4. The pleasure of my Christmas tree.
I was worried the lights were unsafe, as the plug looked a bit suspect. That one's been solved as they failed on Monday. I wrapped a battery operated wire light string around them, just a few tiny white lights but it's something.
They were on my trike handlebars a few years ago and somehow survived the experience.
5. Getting health matters dealt with. I went to my old (2001-2004) workplace yesterday to attend a clinic, and chatted to two staff about my time there.
My mobility being shot, I used a small folding walker a friend has given me (exchanged for a circulation booster). I also have a larger walker with a seat which hasn't been out for while but is a useful perch for visitors. I walked round to the small shopping precinct close to the care centre and got a few items before a taxi home. My longest walk for some time.
6. Weight loss to lessen burden on my arthritic hip continues, despite Christmas temptations.
All is not perfect, but is it ever? (Fell asleep in chair before posting and just woke up... !)Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Have succumbed and put the aircon on! It's 30o, having been 34o ( was only supposed to be 29o....I plan around the forecast!) I'm sitting in our front room waiting on a friend popping in with some food for our freezer. ( which was 2 tubs of lamb ragu, a packet of pasta and some potatoes )
Pleasures for last couple of days...well yesterday I had a lovely new haircut ..today I have a frazzled look , too hot!
Yesterday I baked , made a 3 layer lemon sponge and a 3 layer chocolate sponge , with a small 3" baking tin. DD1 made mince pies and I made the sponge for trifle. I've never made trifle before but my mum always did at christmas and I thought it was something OH might find easy to eat.
Today I made a pavlova for us and one for friends who were dropping off food. Also gave them some of the sponges.
OH hasn't been feeling very well past few days so life has been very quiet and baking is something I can do whilst he sleeps.
Had a nice chat with my wisest friend. Always good to talk with her.
Picked the teeniest tiniest strawberries I ever did see and one wee ripe cherry tomato.
We have a pergola in back garden that is covered in climbing roses and bloody spiders webs! This is where our table and chairs are. There were many spiders, there were many loud swear words.
I am sure they will be back tomorrow ...the pleasure being it was dealt with ...on my mental to do list.
Grass cut....sigh ! In the heat but again a job done!
My bed stripped and remade and sons too. Will get girls tomorrow . I do like clean beds for christmas! The one positive to the heat is washing is dried very quickly!
Have a lovely day0 -
Apologies for scarcity of posts, do read along every day, some pleasures for yesterday.
Some sunshine after several cloudy days, it meant we had a cracking sunset.
Had been to pick up DM's post so pleasure of seeing her open many cards, a lot of which included letters so she caught up on a lot of news.
Our lovely hospice lady who, together with the careers, are helping DM stay in the heart of her family for Christmas.
A blissful hour or so spent having my hair cut and coloured by lovely hairdresser whose Mum makes the most sublime mince pies.
Catching up with one of my SIL's, tears, laughter and lots of tea.0 -
Pleasures for yesterday (Thursday)
1. quiet day in the countdown to Christmas. Wet dull drab day. Stayed in waiting for 2 parcels. One did arrive
2. leftover roast chicken & curry noodles for lunch & DS took rubber chicken wraps to work
3. caught up on some recorded tv
4. chat with nice next door neighbours and wishing them Merry Christmas as they set off to stay at their daughters for a week
5. roast beef for dinner with all the trimmings. Beef was cheap in aldi and it tasted delish. I don't normally buy beef but this was so cheap I bought a 2.4 kg joint and there is loads left. I cooked extra roast potatoes and parsnips & veg and have plated up two meals for Christmas day, DS can warm one up at work and it saves me cooking for myself at home. There is still enough leftovers for 2 more meals, one of which may be a curry tonight (Friday)0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
