  • Evening all
    OS pleasures for the day.
1: All parcels and cards sent off by second class mail at the cost of £16. We cut down old cardboard boxes (thank you Amazon) and weighed and measured parcels. DStepD had 2 parcels in the end as it worked out cheaper to send the 2 separately. Crazy!
2: Weekly shop and most of the Xmas shopping done in Aldi at the grand total of £34, thanks to their Super 6 and other bargains. I love overhearing people in shops "Oh darling I don't think we have a big enough cheese board" "Oh look my favourite chocolates, ooh they're cheap, ooh no that's not the brand I like , we can't have those"
3: Writing this in front of log burner which is simultaneously warming the house, boiling the kettle and drying the washing.
4: Looking forward to my bath soon
5: Making a list of books I want to read or re read this year, using only books I have or can borrow for free!
Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j

The horror of agent orange, harbinger of 'normalcy' for further cauchemars, is happening as we speak - another truck rampage, political assassination, putin games, China strutting, into which & rides with non-osps dominating osps.
    Don't read on.
    #
    1. Spits Thursday was 42 hrs long finally, incorporating - as it did - 2 tyre blowouts. 1st - midnightish M11. V. nasty intervention by Highways Agency crew no. 1,trying to wrench open &'s passenger door and laser torching &eyes and shouting.
NO!!!!! - from & How DARE you? Had hazards on, limping on hard shoulder, c. 5mph[ any more felt dangerous]to suitable area to await daylight, then empty boot to extract spare, change tyre, SAFELY.
NOTHING could be safe before then, for &, for others, for repair.
In fact, they were after a roe deer, injured and causing chaos somewhere. Focussed on saner of 2 young males, other deffo. over-excited. Eventually nursed along to Works Only exit, where stay permitted by them as long as necessary.
2 more HA vehicles stopped over coming 6 hrs, neither having been made aware by previous of &'s plight. Also Essex police. Universal: 'we're not allowed to help'.
    V. glad of extra Thermos and - at 0749:-) - began chore, reading Haynes, obeying it absolutely step-by-step. Unloaded, extracted spare, started to use jack. Rang fenboys, explained situ/location, asked to come on there after. All OKd.
3x jack tipped out at necessary max. extension. Hmm.
Along came another HA vehicle, white van, men of sensible age. & geared up for yet another explanation but straight away, no 'Not Allowed's for them.
1st chap said 'those blutty jacks, Mine's a Ford Zetec estate too, It's the right jack, came with the car, and did that to me 3 wks ago. Not fit for purpose.' Out came their van scissor jack. DID do the job.
    [Another reg.no. pic by & ]
This is so, so en bref, altho' you may differ on that:-). Job done, & re-loaded. 10bells-ish and M11 regained. Onto town of gown. Late for 1130h appt, debadgering saloon. Never mind. Pulled in, thinking 'made it' and what should & hear but that same, clunkitty, chunking, rubber flapping sound! - just as turning into parking bay.
Oh No, Not Again is of course Yes, Yet Again. How come? Phoned fenboys again. Towtruck out on farm fetch, bringing in wounded tractor, but will get to & prob. 3ish. Is ok by &, who proceeds to debadgering, having explained to dear lass, washed face. cleaned teeth and downed coffee provided:-)
All lovely and lass non-specific comment means & instinctively divines WHO her grandma must be. So it proves. Lass jaw drops when & says, 'and your Gran is XY',with a smile.
Another call from fenboys, en route. Arrive. Some excitement in college quad. 1st check under shows nothing amiss, but the tyres are already in and will be sorted. Ring Sat a.m. 1030h if nothing heard prior. &'s indebtedness is inarticulate, for once. &squat achieved 20h-ish.
Sat a.m. call made. & learns boys worked late, finding car overload forced new exhaust/fwd axle contact and shearing, hence metal shard flying and ripping & left rear tyres. Fenboys said & super-lucky police didn't enforce weighbridge.....& won't say here that 'dbl' is uttered.
& collects 11bells village bus to gown town, another to Eeltown. Have to leave enough time to allow rtn, if &obile still on life support.
Car IS ready. Car is waiting. Car has btfl shining new heavy duty short-form chrome exhaust. & well spoken to by dear fenboy the elder:-) & understands. Ok for another 6/7 mths, NOT overloaded, but now on look-out for replacement wheels. Bill? Can't believe how little for all of this - just over £200. & gives more, refuses change.
    Mobile since:-)

    2. Tale shared at Trumpy yday. Patron had parallel event - clutch went @85 mph, in fast lane, on way back last week! Both of us lucky to be alive, we respectively agree.

    3. Reverbe £1, reverbe 5p - both yesterday:-)))

    4. Spits generally slack, poor, for everyone apparently, BUT & had late couple who bought - take a big breath -
last 2 of vicar's husband's late Uncle's Father Christmas figures[from 3 yrs ago], which all agree are dreadful:-)
We chuckled through the tangled telling of heritage, at which point they insisted on giving & double, for our Mara fundraising. Recounted and handed over last night, after 2nd Carol Service of day. Good hearts now needed on all levels, everywhere, to any degree.

    5. All latter called on for Hearing today....which then wasn't. Arrived at Crown Court. Transpires connectivity ick, has meant comms failures various- again. Rang Chambers. Rang sol. Rang Oz again and everywhere else re:updates. Birmingham riots have caused system upheavals. Remain on Warned List for this week and next, unlikely pre-crimbo, but must remain ready every day now. Doing darnedest and & so grateful Vicar opened Church early for & to enter en route.

    6. Came back after farce, uncertainty reigns, phoned Oz again, ate casserole pre-noon, knock-out slept till 5ish[an & never-never-does-thing]. vjm - had thought of your bday and wished you a beautifully happy one, but also thought again of your writing you'd try to find the good in this time of year/season. I just loathe it. We've recently made similar comments here, I know.
In a mo, 2 fresh hwbs will be new pleasure - and back to bed.

This is v, jumbly, for which apologies, but on that basis, no great change, probably:-)

    Happy belated birthday, VJsmum!

Sorry to hear your car woes, Ampersand. I took my brother and his neighbour to their church this afternoon (a long story involving Western Power Distribution and some trees). Anyway, the exhaust always scrapes on the drive at brother's but, with the extra weight in the car, scraped all the way down!

Skint - I'm never in the right shop at the right time for offers.

DD - hope you feel better soon.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A lie in.

    2) Sons at their father's but lots of phone calls and texts from them.

    3) Tried the new HG mould spray I got from B and Q and it actually works! Mould grows on the sloping bits of the bedroom ceilings so I did those, the bathroom, between the beams in the living room - all gone! Took 2 hours, though.

    4) Cracked on with my massive list of jobs while sons are away so did mammoth load of washing up, 4 loads of washing, changed beds, cleaned the stairs and window, steamed downstairs floors, sent final few Christmas cards.

    5) Brother appeared with venison and vegetables for our tea. I just did roast pots and parsnips.

    6) Made a sort of punch with apple juice and blackberries from the freezer.

    7) Watched University Challenge with brother.

    8) In bed with 1hwb and about to listen to ISIHAC.

Advance warning to Frith watchers - we have reason to believe that smaller son and me will be on BBC4 the Thursday after next as there is a film about the Flying Scotsman travelling on the SVR and we not only stood in the station for an hour on both weekend days but also watched them filming!

    Heads up>Frith Son The Younger........

    1. & listening to 5th Test, & being a t'wireless allnighter, always. Compare notes on Nair's brilliant triple century, esp. as his prev. 2 Test total was 17 ( top score 13). Will Albion hang on now? Cook's already been put down early. 282 reqd to make India bat again:-))))), as if.
Brilliant commentator mix, with Prakash and Sunil G, who & remembers debuting at bat:-) Anyone else catch Simon Barnes' "Sport / Beauty" talks?

    2. 3rd purple hwb acquired @ Trumpy on Sunday. BN+L. Collection prospers. Can never have too many hwbs, or too much purple.

    3. Mrs LW, & as Toulon lost 22-21, in dragon land at w/e. & likes new mode of 5live Extra successive 3 match commentary. That aside, some interesting results popped up.

Will save 4. and 5. for rest of lower tempo day with pleasure:-)

I can't comment much on the cricket, Ampersand, as I've been pootling about making breakfast while brother and smaller son have been watching it. There was some discussion about a chap getting 300 :-)

  • 1) Much rugby over the weekend &, thoroughly enjoyed by us both and we're sad enough to be recording one match whilst watching another. Toulon played magnificently as did Claremont who are equally entertaining to watch. Just love the European competitions and so pleased there is enough interest for screening. Spring brings also the IPL T20 cricket, very much fun to watch and equally mesmerising.

    2) Bought myself a new top for Christmas Day, got it in a sale in TKMaximus and it's a size 16, woohoo!!!

    3) Started assembling the bits and pieces needed for Christmas food and most in hand already.

    4) Walk with Cookie in a few minutes and a walk with Maisie later this afternoon.....a doggie day, LOVELY.

    5) Phone call from a pal while I was out shopping this morning to say what I'd sent her for Christmas was much enjoyed...we aim to please!

    3) Coca Cola. Normally can't bear the stuff, but when ill it's the best. Have dispatched mr piano to buy some live plain yoghurt
    4) decorator has done my bedroom, bathroom and top floor spare room. Looking forward to applying the toothbrush principle but for now
    5) spending day in bed watching tv, falling sleep, restarting programme. Looking forward to isihac. Listened to archers while I was away

If you read Noddy books all day you would soon get fed up!

5 Two mopre days at the mill prior to wrapping it up for the season. Tree is still up and not knocked over by Raffles.

4 On that, just move the cards today on the project and the bow wave is moving right and we are walking on the sand. That way, you don't get you feet wet.

3 Log is inn, ready for a dance with some whisky and spice. More later next week.

2 Night, after getting pennies back on Klipperdy Klops team last night will be some cakes of Jaffa and ...

I know I still talk about Jeddah in July 1990. In Haradh in 1991, I was approached by man same age as me, asking why he could not do my job. It lead to the emir of Kharj, the one who rid a previous king of his head a few years earlier (liberal thought, but he was actually shot!). Anyway he queried why he could not do my job. he had been at school, sinc ethe age of 4. Just like you, but all he read was a fairy story. A fantasy. His father was a Bedouin traveller, so he saw more than the Noddy book he was forced to read, and learned about cars and other boy things. He was fortunate.

Too many are deprived of learning about maggots, magnets and flares, but are brainwashed with the Noddy Book!
