5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Having visited Baghdad in July 1990, a diversion on an aircraft. Having been in Jeddah in July 1990. A lot has been conveniently forgotten. Not that I was in the same hotel as chemical Ali. Or the slant drilling in marsh Arab lands.
Nor incident on the pan on 2nd August 1990. Nor the well informed embassy in Riyadh the same morning.
And all was well when Kuwait was liberated. That was the plebiscite.
Next there was the talks. Assad, elder, accusing Begin of being the terrorist. And vice versa. Talks aplenty.
Then in 1993 Billy started lobbing misslies!
I am glad the war monger wife lost.0 -

Hello again.:) Awol again, returning again...
The outcome of last night's election is so horribly awful (the worst of a bad lot ) that I decided that I needed to find a safe, sane, life-affirming place to visit instead of listening to the TV/radio news and that reminded me of you lot so here I am!
Five pleasures for Wednesday:
1. The plumber who came round first thing supposedly to fix our damaged kitchen work top/kitchen taps decided that it was going to take too long to repair so he disappeared and I was able to go to bed and sleep for five more hours. (I'm at the tail end of a flu bug)
2. My OU tutor has extended my previously requested extension for handing in a TMA until tomorrow and she's been really understanding.
3. The home-grown pumpkins and squashes on the kitchen windowsill have been looking very cheering up in comparison to the rain outside.
4. I remembered when I woke up that there was a good sized portion of last night's tikka left in the fridge so I had a proper lunch.
5. The woodburner's lit and the sitting room is really snug. I reckon I have about two more evening's worth of wood left from last year and then we get a big wood delivery next week so I'm pleased I've managed the timing well.
Have lovely evenings everyone.

Good morning from Thursday. Woken very early ( after a not great night with OH) by the front door being banged very loudly ...supermarket delivery , slightly early and slightly too loud....although I had said knock loudly as doorbell doesn't work!
Anyway, it's here and put away. I really do much prefer physically going to the shop but as I can't drive until next week I'm glad I can order online . Dog food was on offer so bought 3 big and heavy bags. So all brought into the house and I don't need to lug them anywhere.
Felt very sad last night at election results, we had watched them most of the afternoon and I had honestly thought the result would go the other way. Felt sad in a similar way when it was the Scottish referendum and Brexit ....none of which I have voted in but watched from afar. The American electorate must see something that we don't and must want change but really.....? But it is a democratic election system and we have to go the way the vote falls regardless of whether it's our choice. (Sighs and mutters )
Nice chat with friend from home yesterday morning. I love that we always have something to say!
I had left over steak pie for lunch yesterday and then again for tea! Everyone else was having mince pie and beans and I thought Ooooh I'd rather have last little bit of steak pie and mashed potatoes and cabbage and a tiny parsnip !
I shall make lasagne for tea tonight.
Nothing terribly much to report....living very quietly at the moment. Still limited as to what I can do although feeling more like myself again.
Night to you all as I get up and start my day!0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
Still wobbly at work, with no sign of it letting up. However, I shall plough on regardless...
Of course, there are many pleasures:
1) Cake club on Monday night. A great variety of cakes with the theme of "The spice of life" - I made a lovely Spiced Guinness Cake. DH said it's my best cake yet!
2) TWO NSDs! I gave one of the cake club members a lift on Monday and in return, she bought me two (soft) drinks!
3) Finished a book. So pleased as I'd had it on the go for a while.
4) Free lunch as I covered a colleague's lunch duty! :j :j
5) Cuddles with the cat. She makes things a little better!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Loves and hugs to mhags you are often in my thoughts xxx
& your cryptic post reminded me of that time we played Mornington Crescent. I seem to remember vjsmum as particularly skilled
frith mr piano is my 'new' lodger. He is a penniless concert pianist (as in he can play Rachmaninov 3 then seamlessly morph into bohemian rhapsody), loves dogs (indeed brought along Bertie , jack Russell),cooks fab Italian (tending a broken heart after 8 years with his Italian boyfriend), chauffeures me without moaning, and can clean.
1) mr piano made me laugh first thing he yelled up 'if you havent switched on the radio yet don't' which of course told me the result
2) latest slow cook veggie chilli very yummy and very good use of rather sad red peppers
3) fab day breaking back of new dissertation module
4) then lift down to rishis (southern Indian) for curry club nom nom
5) then sweetheart mr piano picked me and new colleague up.
Mr p and I have since loved the dogs, drunk tea and retreated to our own beds. Still missing snuffle cat :-( but overall life is good :-)
Vickya cake club sounds fab, perhaps I should introduce it at workMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

What a shock to wake up to this morning. :-/
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Work went OK.
3) Hens well.
4) Quick game of football with smaller son but it was too cold to linger out there long.
5) The new version of Warm Front phoned and it looks like we might be entitled to help with getting our storage heater replaced! We've just had the stove and a storage heater upstairs for about 9 years.
6) Nice to sit in front of the stove this evening. Enjoyed watching the Last Leg.
7) About to go to bed and watch Holby.0 -
Evening all, just made it for today!
Some pleasures today
1. DD had a fab parent's evening, teacher was very pleased with her and had lovely things to say.
2. Took DD out for a treat after parent's evening for coffee and cake and managed to use some points to pay for some of it
3. Got home to find DP dad had made us dinner so no cooking for me and I could get on with a bit more uni work
4. Got my first piece of uni work done for the module, 2 more to go but I've at least got one done now!
5. Laying in bed relaxing watching 8 out of 10 cats for light entertainment before getting back to work tomorrow after my 2 days off
Sleep well all :-)0 -
My pleasures for today
1. Fresh ground coffee & orange fruit loaf at breakfast.
2. Made cards at craft club using acrylic paint & bondaweb, turned out really well.
3. Chatting at craft club.
4. Shopping this afternoon for more craft supplies, no I didn't need them.
5. Ds2 got an interview for part time job, keeping my fingers crossed.0 -
DD: I am enjoying reading your adventures with Mr P.
McHags: Enjoying reading your pleasures.
&: Great taste in colour for those hwbs.
1. Up early as sleep was elusive yet again, more deep cleaning, this time the wood around shelves, and the back door, I am impressed at the amount of dirt cleaned off. DH thinks I should go back to work for a break….:p
2. We took a break, DF needs a load of various things, I can if needs be get it all delivered from a supermarket, but we took the opportunity to head out a few towns over and really glad we did.
3. The trees down the High St had all been decorated in really large poppies it was very affective. We stopped for a tea and a suited and booted veteran sat next to us who we got talking to. We also purchased a couple of poppy pins as we are taking part in the remembrance parade at the weekend.
4. It was a baraginous trip, 20p very posh choccy biccies pack, the CS’s provided a stunning flippy skirt, bright bluish green under it, with black lace overlay with extra bits on the lace, it looks like new and cost a whole 1.99.We also picked up a ferret figurine for a pound, in between picking up most of DF’s bits and pieces. A lovely meandering day. I had to reign myself in with the CS’s there were a few jackets I was tempted by one for the crushed velvet alone but I didn’t know what I would do with it, so I stopped myself as we want to store less not more but it was very tempting.
5. We called in at a garden centre on the way back and while I ohhed and ahhed at the sparkly Christmas fun, the wallet stayed firmly shut.:money:0
