Morning,
Last few hours of freedom before going back to work.
Pleasures today:
1) a lie in and late start at work to ease back into it all
2) healthy food ideas to help me stay on track with slimming world, really want to get 2.5 stone off that's crept on since losing 5.5 stone a few years back.
3) the pumpkin dd and I made for Halloween is still in place on the mole hill in the middle of the back garden so I can see it looking at me when I'm going past the window. Sounds silly but as she doesn't live with me it's a fun/silly reminder of her.
4) a nice rota at work this week will give me the chance to get on with my uni work that I haven't looked at in far too long and really need to get on with
5) planning to take dd swimming tomorrow evening, we've not been for a long time and it will do us both good
Have a good day all!0 -
1) Very lovely weekend away with DD1.
2) Trip to the theatre which was productive of much hilarity, well worth the ticket money.
3) Tickets to the rugby on Saturday to see the game against Saracens, expected a sound thrashing but.......due to a literally last minute try and conversion WE WON!!!
4) Going to a fireworks display for the first time in many years and being 5 again, 'twas wondercrump and I didn't have to worry about an upset pet either.
5) Being home again, sleeping in our bed, lighting the stove against the cold last night and my armchair and slippers, doesn't get any better!0 -
* My pantry is coming along. A great joy! Confession time>>>I'm a bit of a food hoarder. My mother grew up very poor during the Great Depression. I grew up helping pick the fruit trees and fields, can and put up food into storage. She made sure we had plenty to eat.
My husband and I raised six children causing me to always store big quantities. It has be a slow process to try and retrain myself.
* The election will be over tomorrow. No more pollsters calling!!! :j
* We are still getting tomatoes and jalapeños. The tomatillos are almost ready. The chrysanthemums are gorgeous!
* Drying mint for this winter's tea. I love it with a little brown sugar stirred in for a change of pace.
* Big blue skies! Supermoon is coming on the 14th so DH and I will go sit on a hill and watch it, unimpeded, on that night. Food will also be involved.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Last couple of days have been a bit mixed. Still pleasures to be found & enjoyed & the odd twinge of guilt to be put into context.
Persimmon slices in dehydrator look glorious - supermoon style golden discs!
Hiking around the walled garden at Astley Hall, that the roses Tranquility and Grace are still thriving brings me comfort, though seeing a B!oody Ploughman neatly espaliered along with other rare apple breeds brought a whopping grin.
Seeing young cadets and medalled veterans selling poppies. So proud of them.
Stonking bonfire on back garden, amazing clear skies so constellation spotting & alas, no marshmallows "we're secretly all very disappointed in you, mum". Someone may find my wheelbarrow lurches off in a huff, which may inconvenience mouthy son lounging in it...
Son worrying a bit about being the only guy in the room in midwifery nurse class - "with your hair, no one will realise" assures his father...
I have hiccups. The every-bit-of-me jiggles sort. The pleasure is watching my family beaming, & watching for the next ripple. Which arrives, and they gurgle happily.
Confronted with another school document "what is your form?", husband meditatively suggests arson, sundry taking without consent, and at least three counts of blasphemy to be taken into consideration. Child wryly grins as weekend's bonfire & borrowed head torch etc is thus redescribed, while casually calling off the correct reply.
Going through the c s haul, looking up base stamps & dates & pattern names - I spent very little money but have much delight.
I'm channelling Arthur - I have a bowl of Yellow Food. Peas, chickpeas, a chopped pepper & a splash of lemon juice in case it tries to taste like wallpaper paste...
Son suddenly volunteers to iron - in order to watch Mock the Week. We have trained him well, in some fields.0 -
Dishwasher door has suddenly decided it doesn't want to stay closed :-(
1) mr piano has offered to wash up tomorrow morning so dishwasher load left in dw
2) dd2 has had a refund which is actually mine. Don't know how much but might go towards plumber...
3) satsumas. Yum
4) hm leek and potato soup followed by veggie chilli followed by apple crumble. How I love leftovers
5) dd2 fixed my lack of picture on Apple TV. Was using itv player and should use STV player d'ohMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasure 1-100
I have made and acted on the decision to not return to work. Lots of reasons , big one being I detest it! but main one being I want to enjoy and make the most of the quality time I have left with OH. His being so unwell last week shocked us both but we've been reassured by oncologist that it was a reaction to chemotherapy rather than a sudden decline in condition. financially I will have to be a bit canny but have got used to a much reduced income than before and I have savings for such an occasion ( have had my eye on this end goal !).
I'd popped in to cafe on Sunday with clean teatowels and boss asked when are you back...er, I've oniy had my first Saturday off and I told you I'd be off three weeks. Place looked skanky and I just thought it will be even skankier when I come back and will have to deal with it. It used to be fun but hasn't been for a while and it was a thought to go in each weekend. Laterally the only thing I liked was making cakes! I can still do that at home!
The kindness of our oncologist and his sense of humour....I think it's similar to ours!
I took tram and train ( which was just coming into station as I arrived ) home ....felt slightly shaken and stirred by the time I got to home station ...bit much for my wounds! Waited at library for DD1 and the shopping bags , had a mooch through a magazine whilst I waited.
She carried the bags. Got some RTC steak which is currently in slow cooker and shall be a pie in a couple of hours. Potatoes ( which have been a ridiculous price for weeks ) were in comparison to the last few weeks a decent price. Parsnips ...as I love parsnips!
I'm going to enjoy half an hour of just me and my dog....it's been a while Haggis. DD1 just gone to work. DD2 gone shopping after school, DS & OH at work , so I reckon I have another 30 minutes of peace and quiet!
DD sad news about your cat. And aaargh about the dishwasher!
Skint hope you are still taking things a bit easy too?
Mila we have a big (huge!) deep pantry cupboard that I love and will sorely miss when I leave this house. The inside of doors are covered in stickers dating back to the 60's . I swear I see a new one each time I open the doors. Not allowed to remove them as we rent.
Have a good day0 -
Mhags :j yay on your decision to leave toxic place of work, hand on heart I would have missed many a precious moment with my Mum should I still be at work.
Some recent pleasures,
1-100 said time spent with DM, one of many things is that she has re-discovered her love of doing jigsaw puzzles, her family too, the local CS's are being stripped of all stock :rotfl:
Love and support of close friends, stuff of life.
Being able to enjoy a number of local firework displays from the safety of own back garden on a clear, starry night.
Autumn + comfort cooking so lots of stews, rice puddings and ginger cake, my clothes are not thanking me!
My much needed quiet time, whether it's walking the dogs or grooming equine pal, time to breath and just be.
Gentle thoughts to all going through a difficult time.0 -
Morning all...
Mhags I don't blame you with the decision on work, I'm only in my early 30's so no chance of that for me yet, though I left a toxic workplace after 16 years earlier this year and haven't looked back! I hope you get to enjoy many good days with your DH.
Pleasures for me today:
1) uni work - which I absolutely am not putting off by being on here!
2) swimming with dd later today, looking forward to it, and I get to use my NUS discount!
3)DP dad is cooking dinner for us tonight, saves me both cooking and buying
Will come up with 4 and 5 later
Have a good day all, and wrap up warm!!0 -
Mhags - don't blame you. All i have felt since leaving my job of 19 years was relief. Don't miss it (though do miss colleagues) at all.
pleasures for yesterday
1. What a useless waste of time my university workshop was. The pleasure was catching up with a girl I met when i began back in January and the warm croissants that were delivered an hour in. I still eschew wheat and sugar - but can't resist temptation like that.
2. left at lunchtime - i should think i was far from the only one
3. Managed to walk 2 miles in London despite toe. Walking doesn't seem to be making it worse. The sculpture trail in Regent's Park is nice
4. The good thing about bunking off was that i came home early enough to go to friends for coffee
5. Watched Dark Angel while knitting another section of great nephew to be's cardi.
Have a great day all, I am back to London this afternoon for a concert in the Royal Festival hall with OH and DD and a night in a hotel with OH (wit woo....)
I wanna be in the room where it happens0
