5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Good evening all - hope everyone's had a lovely day in the sunshine.
Here's my five for today:
1) Managed a lie-in this morning, despite the people in the flat above mine apparently having a competition to see how many doors they could slam. (It sounded like it started with spring cleaning, but degenerated into an argument.)
2) Received a huge bag of crisps to do a product trial on. It was a nice surprise as the web page I registered on didn't work properly so I didn't think I was registered, then, this morning, crisps arrive.
3) Had a ridiculously productive day - did two lots of washing and put them out to dry (which I hope will be OK as my neighbours have just lit a BBQ and I don't have room to bring everything inside - the wind seems to be blowing in the other direction at the moment, so fingers crossed my washing doesn't get too BBQ flavoured); washed the kitchen floor, washed and disinfected the cat's litter tray, washed the car, emptied some tubs of dead winter plants, used the old compost to mulch the raised beds to keep down weeds, and took some old boxes to the tip to free up space in the kitchen. Phew!
4) The view across Portsmouth in the sunshine as I drove back from the tip.
5) Went for a long walk along the harbour-side this afternoon. The tufted ducks in the ponds are nesting at the moment and are so funny with their constant bickering over nesting sites.
6) Sausages in cider for dinner tonight.
7) I'm drinking the rest of the cider as I type - I'm not really that keen on cider as a drink, but pouring it down the sink would be very un-OS, wouldn't it?
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all,
I managed to get out of the flat today to pick up some medication for my friend's cat (he's stranded in the States), once I had dropped that off and popped into Sainsb I was feeling light headed again and have been in bed ever since. I have enjoyed the sunshine and lovely fresh air via my wide open windows.
1) Beautiful day
2) being able to help my friend... he is like an extra brother to me and I know that I could ask him to do anything for me (why couldn't he be straight???)
3) Getting some delish juice as I am so bored with drinking gallons of tap water
4) Laughing at my furbabes... they do amuse me
5) Watching Bear Grylls on TV... he is quite yummy... though he has spent far to much time with his shirt on...
Hope everyone is really enjoying their gorgeous weekend.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Today's pleasures:-
1. A lie in.
2. Breakfast cooked by DH.
3. The lovely mushroom soup for lunch that I made with my 50p mushrooms.
4. A lovely afternoon in the garden, just tootling and getting a few things done.
5. Very supportive DH who is being very considerate about my poorly leg/back.

5 for today:
1) Bacon sandwich for brunch.
2) Taking the boys to the contact centre and the ex NOT saying anything untowards (despite his trial for fraud being this Monday and Tuesday...)
3) Popping into Sainsburys.
4) Lovely fishcakes for tea and chips (!), mangetout and baby sweetcorn followed by pineapple and strawberries.
5) Dr Who.
6) Walking/cycling across the village and watching the sunset over the Clee Hill. Slightly marred by walking back coughing, sneezing and with itchy eyes due to the dust!

Hi all
Kittikins, I know just what you mean about the relief of not seeing airplanes criss-crossing the sky. Just this evening with DH we were wondering whether this natural event will be a wake up call for our "leaders" to look at growing more food and becoming more self-sufficient locally and nationally rather than relying on so much internationally air-freighted stuff.
Tealady, glad you found the M&S deal useful - today I went back to M&S as I had some vouchers to spend and got 5 x Italian deals, so now I am fairly well stocked up with Pappardelle, pesto (red and green) and the freezer is full of ciabatta!
Savingforoz: OMG re.: your senior moment, but so glad that the bosses were ok and supportive. When they said about you being an asset to the company you could have seized the moment and asked for a six month paid sabbatical LOL!
CCP, I also have a neighbour who barbecues just about every day in summer, what a nuisance (I hate the stench of burning flesh!) but the laundry does not seem to get affected luckily, I have found that the fresh breeze is enough to shift the bad smells.
Bella, glad you could do things in the garden in spite of the bad back.
Ladyhawk, sorry you are still poorly, hope you get well soon.
Anyway, what a lovely lovely day, here are my pleasures:
1 - Glorious sunshine
2 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, red grapefruit and mushroom omelette on toast, with tea
3 - DD and her BF went to a boot sale and bought me a lovely Denby turquoise teapot (with a blue lid!).
4 - DS went out to B&Q and bought a trellis to fix on top of the fence so he can open the curtains in his room and not be seen by the next door neighbours.
5 - THE OS MEET! We had a lovely time, read all about it in the OS Meet Up thread!
6 - All the gifts we exchanged at the OS meet, I got tomato and pepper plants, some purple carrot seeds and a lot of sewing magazines. I passed on a few books and seeds and an embroidery ring.
7 - After the meet I went to M&S and got 5 lots of Italian meal deals using vouchers.
8 - Lentil and veg stew for dinner, salvaging a few tired veg from the fridge. Lots of lentils saved in the freezer for the future.
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I so miss not having the time or energy to reply to everyone, but I am reading, and easter is almost at an end, look out, I could be back!
1) 3 days of beautiful sunshine, so, instead of sitting inside between shifts, I took a blanky and a book out and let the girls out. Gave me chance to admire and appreciate where I live, as well as get fresh air and have fun with the girls!
2) another girls one! This one needs a little background! Those of you with hens, will know what I mean, so please bear with me! for those that dont... When they "scrat" they have this funny routine, it goes like this
"Left foot scrat, right foot scrat, take a step backwards and look down "what did I get???" rinse and repeat! So... Imagine the scene, we have like a flat area of garden then a much higher like raised ledge of rock, again its flat, and its about a 2 foot drop. (can you see whats coming!) so there we are watching them scrat, and you can see one a bit close to the edge, with her bum to the drop, so each time she scrats and steps back to see what she got, she inches closer to the edge. Sure enough, we waited with baited breath but the inevitable finally happened "scrat left, scrat right, step back to see what i got = "WHO MOVED THE FLOOR????" She nonchalantly tried to see if anyone was looking, and as she looked up, one of the other girls was peering over the edge and laughing Im sure! Wouldnt mind but she did exactly the same thing again today!
3) Interviewed a new member of staff today, who actually seems to have something about her / isnt on a different planet and she was lovely, starting next Saturday. I have a good feeling this time! I will have a day off mid may if she works out !!!!
4) I watched the election debate thing on catch iup, and was pleasantly surprised and impressed how much it peeked my interest in politics, I have never really been into it, so i think the debate was good and interesting. (OMG Did I just put down politics as a pleasure????????)
5) although most transplanted seeds have died, I seem to have some that refuse to give up so the winter menu is going to consist mainly of turnip and savoy cabbage atm! Oh and LOTS of dill!!!!!
Take care all, its lovely reading your pleasures, and I agree, it does us all good to make ourselves find 5
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
I confess it's been FAR too long since I posted on here
Mine for today were:
A lie in til 8am
The second day in a row of gorgeous sunshine
Productive day in the garden with kids and nephew and niece who visited - pricked out loads of leeks and other seeds I germinated and sowed some more for the propogator. Roll on summer woo hoo!!
Watching the kids play in the garden. With the exception of lunchtime I think we've been outside around 10 hoursMy kids do so love the outdoors.
All washing dried and up to date (just the ironing to shift now )
My chocolate buns which turned out delicious even though I didn't have as much Nutella as I would have liked
A free roast chicken courtesy of my FIL (who got it reduced). Said chicked has now been stripped bare and meat is in fridge for tomorrow's dinner.
Drinking a can of coke - OK not terribly OS but I only ever buy it at Christmas (as it just doesn't last and of course is loaded with sugar) but it's soooooooooo nice. Diet coke just doesn't do it
Right I will try and make an attempt to post more often than I have, I like to remind myself where my blessings are but things haven't been terribly OS lately (apart from scratch cooking) and just not had time to take breath let alone appreciate what I've done during the day (which has been very little over Easter hols).I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
1. DD and I enjoyed eating in the garden today. The first time we've had dinner outside this year, here's hoping for many more al fresco meals.
2. We discovered some green shoots in our seed potsShame we can't remember what we've sown, lol. I'm so pleased as we'd kind of forgotten about them. Yay to Mother Nature!
3. Picked up my camera bag from the post office and it's fabulous, so I was able to take more pictures of blossom and flowers whilst out and about (oh and tons of photos of DD, lol).
4. DD went to a friend's party and I bought a newspaper and a bottle of pop and sat on the village green and read in peace, saving the crossword for tomorrow!
5. Got my car valeted and it cost far less than I'd budgeted for - it looks gorgeous now, shame I've got to get rid of it, lol.
6. DD's little friend has come over to be babysat and her mum brought presents for both me and DD, lucky us
7. DD and I had great fun doing foot and hand prints, and both have a red stained foot now as the paint hasn't quite washed off quite as well as the bottle said it would, lol.
8. I watched the fabulous solar system documentary on BeeBBC4 with DD and her friend. I want to find out more about the planets, having never really concentrated in science classes as a youngster, it's fascinating.
All in all, we have had a lovely day :j0 -
I agree with Kittykins re the pleasure of not having planes flying round at the moment - that counts for 5 pleasures worth a day in my book:D. I also feel sorry for those stuck overseas obviously - but it is lovely not to see or hear any planes at all and I'm making the best of it whilst it lasts. Talking to friends today - everyone had a smile on their face about that fact - so I'm not the only one thoroughly appreciating the good side of this. I've been told of friends in London who are really enjoying the "peace and quiet" and can understand when I was told that one of them frequently has planes going over their bedroom (even throughout the night) and that it "sounds like Armageddon normally" because of it.
Apart from that pleasure - the others were being out in the country and seeing nice scenery and breathing fresh air (I forget that I never normally take deep breaths outside - because one dare not courtesy of all the car fumes). You just remember that fact when somewhere that its possible to enjoy breathing fresh air. Listening to the birds and water flowing was a good one as well.0 -
So we now have 'doing a Reverbe' when finding money, and the new one - 'doing the scrat' - which I think is a type of dance:dance: invented by chickens
1. A mixed blessing to start the day. The doorbell rang and woke me, I rushed downstairs, scrabbled to find the keys, looked outside but there was no-one there. I made a cuppa, took it back to bed and looked at the clock...it was 5.50am . I realised I'd been dreaming when I remembered the doorbell battery has died and needs replacing . So I had what I felt was a lovely long lie in and woke again at 8.30am
2. Postie brought me a sample of moisturiser and a £1 m/o coupon
3. After yesterdays hard work in the garden by my friend I did a little snipping and clipping, and the garden looks beautiful with dappled sunlight shining through the shrubs and trees
4. Finished up yesterdays salad leftovers for lunch and followed with some fruit which needed using up. Felt very virtuous, and pleased salad days seem to be well and truly here...
5. ...virtuous that is, until I sat down to watch Casualty and had a big bowl of C d'O vanilla ice cream. I do love it though so it wasn't wasted
Night night, sweet dreams (without door bells)
