So glad it is going well, Kittikins. :-) I have to support in PE now and was shown round the gym today so I know where the air conditioning/light switches are. Got to the machines and colleague says, "Well, I don't need to explain these, I'm sure you've been in a gym before". Ahahaha!! Er.... no!

Glad to hear your mum was so well looked after, Lainey.

Frankfurt not somewhere I know, MrsLW, but it seems to me that all of Germany is great.

What does a vestry secretary do, DD? In the village church, the vestry has one old gas heater and some flower arranging equipment!

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A better sleep.

    2) Work went OK.

    3) Bigger son loved work experience again. I told him that I had 3 work experience students each year where I used to work so, of the 30 or so, I remembered only 1 and that is because he chatted to us! I suggested that he try to ask everyone a question about their job. I needn't have worried because yesterday's person said it was lovely to have someone talkative helping and today he relayed a conversation he had had with the man about ex battery hens! He did more mending of things in council houses and flats today and got to do some drilling and replace a lock on a door.

    4) Smaller son very happy back at school, glad his DT has started with cookery. He says his class is so big some of their overspill go into the GCSE cookery room. He also has to call the teacher "chef" when he is working! He wants to do cooking at GCSE and A level.

    5) Popped to Sainsburys for a few bits and another new pencil case for smaller son because the zip ripped off his.

    6) Tasty tea of HM kebabs and corn on the cobs.

    7) Hens OK.

ETA - good to hear your news just now, MrsLW!

    Great news Mrs LW

Lying in my bed at dad's trying to ignore the fact that the room and bathroom are filthy (not dad's fault, he hasn't been up here for 4 years. God knows what brother and his girlfriend do half the time, but it ain;t cleaning)

    Pleasures for today

    1. Up early and caught the early train. Got to dad's home town by 10.15. Treated myself to Pain au Raisin at St Pancras. Going back to being good and sugar and carb free from next week.
    2. Got here early enough to walk up the sea front to witness this...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/37296498

The black 'smoke' left behind as it fell was in fact the contents of the chimney left after the demolition. Kind of looks a bit cartoon like

    3. Painted dads shed door. That's better. i think next time I might set to and just clean stuff.
    4. effandcee for lunch - was rather nice
    5. Lovely day for it.

Back home tomorrow, London Friday then home, back to London on Saturday. It's all go.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    3. washed DS's bedding and line dried, emptied bins upstairs, washed bathroom floor

    4. sorted another bin bag of stuff for charity shop

    5. phone call from DF as their fixed rate gas & elec deal is coming to an end. Helped him find a cheaper tariff online

  • Mrs LW what absolutely thrilling news! You all must be elated and soooo relieved! January!!!!! I know you are all over the moon with such fantastic news.

Lainey I think in such highly stressful and frightening times for your mom to be cared for by such angels is a marvelous blessing. This is so great to hear.

I went off the low carb wagon today VJsmum. Rare but sometimes such a treat!

Good school starts are encouraging for the year to come.

This was a difficult painful day for the Mila family. We took our little old Toby rascal to the vet and had him put down. I'm heartsick tonight and have cried and cried. We have had him for half of our marriage.
Such a joyous loving fun boy. Grieving now.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Gently hugs Mila a hard decision to make but often the right one. May you all have lovely memories of better times with your rascal x
  • MILA my heart is wrenched for you, loosing Docky last year was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do, to make that decision to let our adored animal friends go from their pain IS the right one but Oh how it hurts and Oh how we miss them. I know exactly how you're feeling today love, the gap that was Toby is bigger than the little guy in real life and the emptiness left is unbearable. Hold to the thought that you did this from love, that you did the right thing and that the unkindest thing would have been to NOT let him go. It will take time, lots of time for your memories of him to turn to smiles rather than tears but they will my friend and he will be there with you all along, these little family members don't just leave, they stay with us until we can cope without them because they love us as much as we love them. I still shed tears over Docky on occasion but these days we're more likely to remember his mischief and laugh about it than the day we let him end his suffering. Be sure he loves you and always will and know it's fine to cry and that this feeling of utter loss will fade, time does soften what you're feeling now pet, Love and hugs Lyn xxx.

MrsLW - what wonderful news. I'm so happy and pleased for all of you :)

Mila - it's so hard when we lose our animal friends, the hard decisions we have to make are the penalty we pay for the joy they bring into our lives. It's hard to find the right words but I will keep you in my thoughts x x

One huge pleasure for me yesterday, and it is more than enough. I found out that my lovely family are treating me to a surprise weekend in London this weekend and my daughter R is coming with me. We have tickets to see the Queen's Dresses at Buckingham Palace and are going to see 'Stomp' :T on the Saturday evening. It will be a year on Monday next week since I woke up in the critical care unit in MRI and they thought we should celebrate the fact that I'm still here to annoy them all!!! I am so touched by this: and so blessed and grateful to have recovered as well as I have done.

MIla sending you gentle thoughts, treasure those happy memories of Toby dog x

Cappella, what a lovely surprise, enjoy your weekend.

    Pleasures for yesterday,

Slept relatively well and woke up refreshed.

Got over to Mum's bungalow and sorted a few bits out for her, cancelled milk etc.

Walked on to the ward and there was my lovely Mum, sitting up in the chair :) she is such a stoical person.

Her lovely palliative nurse made a visit, plans are being put in place so that Mum can go home as per her wishes. Despite the difficult subject we still had a few giggles, biggest one come when nurse took some bloods and Mum asked if they were going to do a pregnancy test as that could be the cause of her swollen tummy :rotfl:

Home at a reasonable time, had a proper tea with veg and everything!
