Sorry to hear your news, Lainey. Thinking of you.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A lie in!

    2) Sons are at their father's but plenty of texts and calls from them and they got their father to drive them to see our hens!

    3) Picked my mum up from her hospital appointment this morning. She has not been able to drive for a few months and needed 2 cataract ops then 2 corneal transplants. Well... she had 1 cataract treated and, at her appointment to check on that today, she has passed the driving eye test! This also means they are happy to leave the other 3 ops for a year or so. Dad is going to the optician tomorrow so he can be put on the waiting list for his cataracts as they are much worse than mum's and he can't drive at night.

    4) Did parents' house insurance for them and saved them £50 on their renewal quote.

    5) Got the hen layers pellets and mixed grain and sat with them for a while.

    6) Changed the bunkbeds.

    7) Did the holiday scrapbook (sticking in maps, receipts, tickets etc) then ordered the photos online.

    8) Went swimming with my brother.

    9) The police got in touch about the incident on the train the other night. I'm not sure anything will come of it but I'm still glad I contacted them.

    10) Picked another bag of blackberries for the freezer.

    11) Caught up with Holby City.

    12) Watching the Olympics now and making flapjacks.
  • * Have initiated bad joke (stupid not vulgar) or bad pun for the day in texts to my kids. They are responding with their own. Lots of fun and written groaning.

    * I love my freezer! Pulled out chipotle pork chops and heated them for dinner with several sides. Easy!!
So easy I made a pecan pie for dessert. DH's fav!

    * I've only thrown out one thing in weeks from the fridge (today). I'm very pleased with the money saved and not squandered!!!

    * Watching the pigeon try to hang upside down to eat from the tiny birdies' feeder. :rotfl: It tried fluttering in front of the hole for the seeds but that didn't work either.
Note to pigeon: You are not a hummingbird.

    * DD2 is also going to Albuquerque this weekend. We will see three of our children and our fabulous Sequoia (age two). I'm so looking forward to our little family reunion.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

    Monday's five:
    1. OH finished early
    2. More clearing out
    3. Corned beef hash for tea
    4. Parcel collected nice and early - marching through town with parcels is not a joy for me
    5. Family pulling together
  • 1) Beautiful day yesterday, stunning weather and most of it spent outside doing jobs in the sun, lovely!

    2) Another batch of apples 'scratted' and pressed and we now have a 5 gallon container and 5 demijohns burbling away here in the study.

    3) Tried a new Hugh FW recipe for supper yesterday, a tomato and mozarella risotto, just the thing for hot weather and vey tasty and easy to do. We have the other half for supper tonight so NO COOKING, Hoorah!

    4) Phone call from DD1 to say she's going canoeing with some friends this afternoon, finally she's got a social life where she lives, that makes me very happy indeed.

    5) Used the dehydrator to dry some sliced apples yesterday, I used my new apple peeler/corer/slicer machine which made the processing so easy. They have dried to perfection and are sweet, chewy and delicious. This is definitely going to be my preferred way of storing apples from now on, the freezer space will be used for other things.

Well pleasure 1-100 is OH is home from hospital after 3 days and 3 nights. We thought he was going to have to stay in another night but a nice team of doctors came round and said we could go.

Lovely friend picked me up last night ( after we discovered he wasn't getting home and was utterly miserable ,I just thought I can't leave now) and then she came into city this afternoon and brought us home. She's a star.

My doggy is soooo happy to have his daddy home .

We are having takeway for tea...don't care!

I worked yesterday morning , we were actually busy...I did not really want to be there but hey! An extra bit off cash .and I baked which is always nice. Made strawberry and coconut muffins, brownies and lemon cupcakes.....whilst attempting to make butter icing ..I thankfully tasted mix ( to see if it was lemony enough) , I had used cornflour instead of icing sugar...my nemesis had changed tubs! Just so you know , it's disgusting !

Right better go and collect dinner!

    Have a good day :)

    Well done, MrMHags.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A lie in.

    2) Went to local woods with friend and her children and did some geocaching.

    3) Went round charity shops and got some heavy duty work trousers that will be perfect for bigger son's work experience (he's working with carpenters and plumbers). Also a Superdry T shirt for him plus a t shirt and jumper for me.

    4) Went out for a cup of tea with my school friend.

    5) Went down to see the chickens and bigger son had popped down during the day and built them a new pen! (He's at his father's at the moment). It is made from an old greenhouse frame but glass taken out and chicken wire used instead so it's massive, with perches at different heights.

    6) Cleaned the bathroom - it really needed it :-/

    7) Watched the Olympics - cycling mainly.

Firth what a wonderful surprise to come home to, and what a talented son!
Skint, I just can't imagine clotted cream!! It sounds vile....like its spoiled. But it must be good as so many of you like it???

    * Fresh caught fish is so good!!! Cooked it in a foil packet. DH loves it coated in cornmeal and fried but hey! he has to eat healthy food too...so says his wife!! I jazzed it up enough with good veggies and seasonings so that he actually enjoyed it after all. Pecan pie with whipped sweetened cream. Can't eat healthy all the time.:D

    * Continue to have cooler days. Only 91F today!

    * Birds at the bird feeder.

    * We originally bought 12 seedling tomatoe plants, 11 of which DH planted in pots and then stuck one out by the roses as he didn't have another pot. The container ones all got some kind of fungus and only the one in the ground has produced. And boy has it produced! It's a new variety for us and just so flavorful. The tomatoes are nice sized too.

    * We get paid tomorrow! Did a bit of breath holding the last several days. :o Today, we received the insurance money for floor replacement so that will have to be sorted.

I'm so glad your DH is home Mhags.
Mrs LW isn't it amazing how good news from our children lifts our mood!

Good evening , after a very wet start it turned in to a nice afternoon, I rather optimitically hung washing out this morning and it dried.

I had a difficult start to my day. Most of OHs hair came out, big handfuls at a time. I found this very distressing . Knew it was coming but still horrid. At one point it looked like I had Donald Trump's hair in a pile. I have hoovered and hoovered and still finding piles. He had very thick hair! A lot to lose.

So, I wrote a list of achievable tasks. Posted a small parcel to a friend back home and was pleasantly surprised at the charge. She had sent a food parcel for our m-early Christmas so it was nice to send something back that I think will be appreciated.

Made / making pulled pork for first time ever , in slow cooker all day. I do not like pork so will not eat it but others will. I will enjoy all the roast veg to accompany....and sprouts. I cleaned out fridge this morning and there are still sprouts to be eaten. Just as well I love 'em.

Also making an apple sponge for pudding.

    Cleaned bathrooms....much hair everywhere.

Had a snooze as did my dog. He's such a companionable boy.

I finished a book I started in the ward yesterday ...was reading then snooze happened then read again :) will return it next week. There are books and magazines dotted around waiting areas everywhere.

The day improved as it went on, so that's a good thing.

    Have a lovely day :)
