VJ'smum - wow fab hearing about SA
KK - lovely to hear you and DD enjoying time with each other
PK - Welsh lands sounds idyllic
1. Back from 10 days visiting family up north. Had a fab time nice days out and lovely food
2. went to see sister and weather was good went digging sandcastles and crabbing on beach with DNephew. Brought back memories of doing similar with DS (now 21)
3. met up with old school friend who thankfully is ok after a bad car accident nearly pushed her over the edge of a steep embankment into the local weir  Her car is a write off after someone rear-ended her on the way down the winding road and she has whiplash, but it could have been much worse
4. DP's donated a new table for my garden, which was squeezed into back of my car and now is in place saving me from buying one and saving my bad back from bending down with the washing basket. My old table cracked down the middle when it was blown over in a gale.
5. shopping done today and batch cooking resumed. DS has eaten all batch cooked meals I left in the freezer for him. Have made him some breakfast casserole (sausage, bacon lardons, tomatoes, milk, spinach, mozzarella) and a beef curry enough for a couple of dinners when hes on night shift and tomorrow I will make some chilli and another breakfast casserole - chicken & bacon lardons with mozzarella & passata. He has high protein no/low carb breakfasts. Any suggestions for high protein no carb breakfasts gratefully received - apart from eggs which he cant eat.
6. washing done and line dried
7. afternoon nap

Hi, had started a post before but it seems to have disappeared .
Anyway, it's Wednesday evening ,been a busy day of appointments .
The day started bright and sunny with a very cold wind then became very dull with a very cold wind and is now very wet with a very cold wind.
Started taking Christmas decorations down, will take my time, no rush.
Had appointments at hospital this afternoon, someone kindly passed in their carpark ticket to us.saved $12.
GP kindly phoned this morning. Had visit from Palliative Care Team this morning.
Very quick dog walk around the block but lots of spring springing in the gardens, lots of blossom on trees, magnolia is stunning, camellias, jonquils, lemons on trees.
We were down to the last scoops of dog food so had to go to supermarket. I usually stock up when it's on offer but can't have a starving dog so had to pay full price, however, with offers and voucher for my spend I have $20 off next shop so almost a bag of dog food.
Said dog would not have been too hungry however! My lovely friend makes lovely biscuits and had made us Christmas tree ones with sparkly edible balls as decorations, gorgeous! Also ,Christmas wreath shaped ones. Ever so pretty. Haggis obviously thought so too! Son, said.."mum , did someone finish D's biscuits?"... Thought maybe DD2 had taken them to school, no...Haggis seemed to be the culprit! Bad dog!
It is now lashing with torrential rain! Very loud on the roof.
It was 3 excited children for tea tonight....fish fingers! A very rare occurrence in the Mhagster household!
I'd a sad moment today...sobbed whilst hanging out my washing. I've made porridge everyday for past 18 months for OH and today was the last day he felt he could manage physically to eat it. I know it's just a bowl of porridge but it signifies a lot more to me.
Anyway...tomorrow is another day.
Have a great day
So sorry, it's the little things that hit home. I don't post often but have watched what's been going on. I hope that things go as easy as they can and you get the strength to cope with what is ahead of you and your family. XXXXXX0 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) a good sleep and the only time EVER that I've needed to wake bigger son up!
2) tasty breakfast
3) had Swiss army knife making appt at 9 so each made one.
4) borrowed the hotel's bikes and had a quick dash about, despite the rain.
5) paninis and posh cakes in the bakery cafe
6) went to Treib on the boat.
7) from Treib to a village I've forgotten the name of, on a funicular that must have been over a mile long!
8) back on the boat. Sons intrigued by nuns as they'd never seen any before.
9) bit more cycling
10) tea in a Chinese restaurant with a waitress who spoke no English (everyone does) which tested my German. All the people I'd spoken to in German today had replied to me in French - I don't know why my German accent would sound French!
11) been watching Olympics0 -
Hugs Mchags.
D4V wow what a post...
I flew a kite today for the first time ever, my face hurt from laughing so much. It cost a whole fiver from Aldeees and is amazing.:T
Foraged and came back with more then expected, blackberries and apples. I will have to cook them up in the van at the moment they are frozen.:o
One of our ferrets is going through an illness flair that has been treated with an implant. As long as he can survive the implant flair he will make it but he's rather shakey at mo. We are hoping here. He's curled up beside me as I type. 2 more days and then it's upwards we hope.Fingers crossed he can do it.
Sleepy and relaxed, castle roaming tomorrow.0 -
* Hair cut > 2 1/2 inches off. Always feels good.
* DH did the shopping. :T He came back with lots of meat, cans of beans, varieties of cheese, mucho snacks and dog food (much of this was not on the list). Lots of things on the list he couldn't find. And not one vegetable. He's very pleased with what he bought so that's a good thing right?
* Puddles everywhere. Uncommon sight. The air smells clean.
* I tried a new casserole that DH loved. Boxed mac n cheese, fried hotdogs that have been cut up, tad of mustard and BBQ sauce with grated cheese on top. Yuck! But I knew he'd like it and I used up items we had on hand. I'm a good girl today.
*Mouth guard fit like a glove when I tried it on at the dentist office. Well it should, it was custom made for me. I had one years ago and it would fall out at night. The dog decided it was a chew toy and destroyed it one night. This one sort of clicks on and I have to use both thumbs to get it off so it won't be falling out. Besides old man Toby dog doesn't have many teeth left to chew it up if it did fall out.
* Our wind chimes make such lovely music right outside our bay window. They have given us years of joy.
VJsmum were you in the northern part of NM? They get a lot more rain up north. We live in the high desert down south, not far from the border. Lots of Spanish spoken here but not by me. No ear for languages.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Yes, we were in Chama (OH wanted to see the steam train there, The Cumbres and Toltec railway. We'd also been to Durango for the steam train there) and then went down to Santa Fe and drove from there, through Albuquerque to Phoenix. It was in Santa Fe that i first had Huevos Rancheros and it remains, to this day, the best breakfast I have ever had. My friends are off to Colorado and NM today - also for trains. Whilst the steam trains aren't really my thing, they have taken me to some fantastic places...
On the train down to dads. Supposed to be working
Pleasures for yesterday
1. The builders demolishing our dangerous garden wall are moving on a pace. I thought there might be some local complaints as it was rather old. Everyone seems to be relieved that it's gone.
2. Caught up all the holiday laundry
3. Bacon and egg for breakfast. Chicken curry for tea. Trying to cut down on carbs so i had mine with avo and kimchi, it was lish
4. Got back into work a lot quicker than i normally do after a holiday
5. Shopping done and food in the fridge.
Have a great day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Good morning everyone,
1 – Pizza and pasta last night was delish. Bought in bulk from C*ostco so was a fraction of the price of what it probably should’ve been.
2 – Watched the Olympics last night, was great fun. Feel so proud of GB.
3 – Lost 4lb since I last weighed myself 2 weeks ago. I’ll take that.
4 – FIFA tonight with the boys. Looking forward to it.
5 – My turn to cook tonight so I’ll get the thinking cap on for something good.
Have a nice day people.0 -
Still daylight at 6pm which is fabulous and slightly ( just slightly)lighter in the mornings.
Today I have un decorated for m-early Christmas , lovely to put up but lovely
to put away. Still have a massive balloon bouquet !
DD1 made mince pies....I have eaten far too many!
Tidied big cupboard at front door.
Tidied shoe cupboard.
Tidied pantry cupboard
Tidied christmas cupboard
Tidied baking cupboard
Tidied food cupboard.
2 big bags of stuff taken over to Salvos. 1 big bag of recycling to go in someone else's recycling bin tonight as mine is full ( bin lorry comes at 6am)
I had taken a pile of magazines from work magazine rack to hospital waiting room yesterday.
As well as being tidied it's also a way of being slightly in control of something in my life!
Picked up prescriptions at GP and wasn't charged. GP can charge you a full appointment charge ($72) however, I'd already had a nice chat with GP on phone so I wasn't expecting a charge but nice that he didn't .
Eyebrows waxed ...ouch!
Having another chicken pie for dinner. I'd made 2 the other night but didn't have enough room in freezer.
Have also just made a bread and butter pudding with apples and sultanas . Using up bread that DD2 had brought home from work the other day .
Have a good day0 -
Thinking of you mhags.
Hi vj's mum, thanks for the welcome:)
Waiting in the car park of Sports club to collect youngest yesterday, I saw a group of ladies emerge from having obviously gymmed/yoga'd, then lunched; they all looked lovely, happy and full of camaraderie; I've become a bit insular, and don't have friendships like that, and it gave me a pang of - I don't know? Sorrow? Regret? - I love to read about those of you that catch up with real, trusty friends and thoroughly enjoy the experience; it's definitely good for the soul:)
So I'll list my family again as one of yesterday's pleasures - it was nice to be all at home together last night, comfy in each other's company.
I cleared a corner of the house that seemed to have become a dumping ground, and was bothering only me; feels good having tackled it and filled a huge bag for charity.
Walking yesterday, passed a front garden full of huge, old-style roses; the big, beautiful, overblown type:) so many different, paint-box colours, and smelling beautiful as I passed. They made me smile - it's almost as if they know how gorgeous they are, with their "look, but don't touch!" thorny cloaks on!
Really enjoyed watching the diving and the kayaking at the Olympics.
Lots of tidying and cleaning to do today - not a pleasure, but the resulting (short-lived!) order is!0 -
Yesterday's pleasures
1.As always your posts here.
MHags - thinking of you X X
Speky - enjoy Fifa, not my cup of tea but my OH will be watching later.
2. At choir last night ( have you taken the plunge and joined yet Yvieblue? We sang a selection from Iolanthe. As only one of us will ever see 50 again and the majority of us are rather substantially built it was gloriously surreal to hear us launch into " We are dainty little fairies ever singing ever dancing . . ." We were still giggling about it in the car all the way home:rotfl:
3.Our choir mistress brought cake and sparkly wine to share her 85th birthday celebrations. At 85 she is an inspiration to us all, and can stil hit high C without effort.
4. Seeing our bad Border terrier assaulted by a 12 week old Maltese/poodle puppy. It slipped it's collar, flew up out of nowhere on the field and literally climbed all over him. Bit like being attacked by a tiny fluffy white mop. Bless him, after the first shock he just sat there looking puzzled. Was able to restore her to her grateful, worried owner and have suggested a harness, not all dogs are friendly after all.
5. More poetry I'm afraid, but leavened with a good dose of Terry Pratchett, and several vintage cookery books (including Nanny Ogg's Cookbook which TP signed for me years ago:) ) I do love books.0
