An odd day but Boxing Day often is!
OH was unwell through night so I didn't get much sleep ( nor did he) we all slept in this morning, so everyone running round grumpily. OH thought he was going to work , chemo decided differently.
Caught up on chores .
Walked up to our local shops, got a denim skirt in salvos.
Had some left over lasagne for late lunch
Massive snooze.
Spag Bol for tea...easy Peasy left over Bol sauce so all I had to do was cook the spag part!
Onwards ....and onwards!
Have a lovely day0 -
Morning everyone
1 – A weekend spent with family and friends. Although I’m one who likes time to themselves, it was a fun packed weekend with my nearest and dearest and it was great.
2 – I often take for granted a sound and undisturbed sleep and last night was just that.
3 – I’m feeling fit. Well not so much my legs from the game of football I had, but everything else is in working order.
4 – Due an upgrade on my phone soon. Don’t really need or want the latest model or anything. All I need is a bit more internet for emails when I’m out and about.
5 – Suits. The TV series. Back on Dave every Sunday night and last night was gooooood. Really enjoyable that series is. Highly recommended.
Have a super day everyone.0 -
PM BoP with £50 and I'll make sure the town will be painted red. It will be an event you'll not forget! In fact, better than some Buck of Face event and cardbored boxes, of sorts!
Indemnitees will be required!
Happy Boxing Day to Mhags! I suppose she is now Cold Turkey! :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls
5 Award winning night with the owls last night. Me and BoPsie had a wobbleade and some chilli crisps (Proper food Mila, not chips and carp!). Nuts were not consumed.
4 Got another two interviews this week and rehab from Thursday. Will be really on the mill I think! Both in Bristol. More later
3 Raffles, the cat we feed, this morning decided that his fresh sachet of foods and biscuits were too much for him, so he decided to get his own. Two shrews were deposited on the plaza. Yes, BoP pad has a plaza. It was a patio be takes up the whole end of the yard. BoPsie normally sips her whine on it!
2 The BoP 'putah is missing its green ticks. Someone has run off with them! Life will never be the same ever again.
Other things you could talk about include why BoP is the best thing since the bread knife!0 -
Coffee and cake with a friend. Realised afterwards that friend didn't actually listen to anything I had to say, or indeed, give me the chance to say much at all! Oh to be interesting! Cake was very nice though:D
Nice walk with pooch - a route we'd not done for a while so nice new sights and smells for him.
A line full of crisp, white shirts drying in the breeze.
Sunflowers smiling at me on the windowsill:)
A clear drive to Son's sports club - hoping for same when I go to collect him later.
Good luck for interviews, happy holidays for those who have them coming up, and general good vibes to all x0 -
Hello everyone! I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! SATs for my class and work stress in general has kept me away from here, however, I'm back on it and hopefully things will be better (ie I'll be more organised!). DH and I have also returned from our holiday - 2 weeks away have been bliss!
Starting again for pleasures:
1) Dropped a few things off at the charity shop. I've signed up for gift aid with them and get an e-mail every now and again when they've sold stuff. My last donation was worth just over £50.
2) Went to the bank to pay my £2 coins in - all goes towards the car tax!
3) The in-laws are away so we're in charge of watering the plants and can snaffle any ripe veggies. DH has brought back 2 courgettes, which I'll use in a tomato and courgette stew for the freezer. There'll be more over the next couple of weeks, so I'll no doubt be finding more courgette recipes!
4) I've started attending a slimming group - weighed myself this morning (post holiday) before the official weigh in on Thursday and I *think* I've lost 1lb whilst being on holiday!!!! Yes, a LOSS!
5) More money from TopCashback - including some from when I helped my mum book a hotel! :j:j:j:j:j
Catch you all later!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
1) Being back home after a while away doing various nice things, but home, Oh yes, IS best.
2) Saw a muntjack deer in the fields between Salisbury and Romsey when I was on the train at lunchtime coming home from DD1.
3) Saw a Roe buck in the fields on the footpath when I walked Cookie dog (who is staying with us this week) this afternoon, beautiful beastie he was too!
4) Picking produce in the garden, it's abundant this year, runner beans, French beans, blackberries, redcurrants, tomatoes will be picked from the greenhouse tomorrow, and getting it all processed and in the dehydrator/freezer or given to friends if we have enough for us.
5) Scratting a small mountain of windfall apples this afternoon and actually pressing seven and a half litres of juice for home made cider, 5 gallons burbling away beside me in the study as I'm typing.
6) The builders were in while we were away to top up insulation under the extension roof and then waterproof us again and replace the times, they left us ALL the wooden laths from the old roof and He Who Knows has processed them all for kindling while I was away, Oh my, we're well set up for the next few years I think!0 -
1. Sunshine!
2. Found out that a child had given me a £30 A$da gift card so that paid for all our shopping for necessary and unnecessary goodies for our staycation....eton mess icecream anyone? Very generous of the child's parents, felt a bit embarrassed!
3. Another voucher paid for neccessaries in Sooperdroog:)
4. And another for DD's school socks in Messrs JLouis!
5. And finally for my much-needed double espresso after all that shopping!
6. DD made me try on a pair of sandals as she said that my ones with a hole in the sole were disgusting and I wasn't allowed to replace them with the sameThankfully, they look quite nice (although I am going to wear them indoors for a while to make sure they are comfortable around the dodgy ankle), and had 20% off the sale price, so were pretty cheap - thanks DD!
7. Cooked a 'proper' dinner tonight, complete with glass of rose!
8. DD is now doing the washing up, without grumbling, and with hug breaks
9. Ooooh, and we also went to the cinema, using the Sh!wcase Insider or whatever its called that I signed up for the other day to get discounted tickets, took in our own drinks and popcorn, enjoyed their reclining chairs and really enjoyed the BFG0 -
Good evening from Paris!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep
2) train to London OK
3) Eurostar also fine.
4) Quick dash to hotel to dump bags (basic but fine) then..
the summit of the Eiffel Tower!!! Bigger son has wanted to go since he was 4 :-)
5) back on Metro and a French couple were swinging their toddler between them on the stairs. They got to smaller son going up the stairs and said "sous la tete!" and swung the child over smaller son which made him laugh for ages!
6) just been out geocaching (too many people milling around).
7) tired now and watching the Olympics in French.0 -

OS Pleasures over the last fortnight
A cool day after the hottest ones. Bliss to stroll in the cool fresh green again.
Oh my. Preparing for desk sharing is not a lot of fun but as I throw stuff out, I begin to suspect my storage pedestal was in fact a TARDIS. Still the 13 boxes of sealed evidence is somebody else's problem.
Frankly stopped to watch a mirrored window panel - taller & wider than the men moving it - being coaxed into place. It's so still & quiet I can hear them talking to the crane operator. In another life, I shall try to come back as an engineer!
"Can you see 4 years into the future?
Sure, I have 2020 vision..." Oh gods, youngest is punning again.
Been given a Good King Henry plant - brilliant as mine, grown from seed, didn't live terribly long whereas this hearty leafy green plant looks big enough to survive most predators. [So far so good!]
Admiring godfathers garden & getting repeated flashbacks to my grandmother's forty years ago - same plants in the borders! Awed at his apple & damson trees beautifully curving with future crop, and at impressed by bean crop easily 3' taller than I am. We agreed that all crops with F1 in the name are unworthy of our efforts - we're both seed savers!
Started & did all of the first tricky bit and am peacefully working towards the final tricky bit of another winter woolly hat.
Middleson got a proper cake trowel from a charity shop & is fearsomely proud of it. We're being supportive so we're included in it's testing & use... [Our cunning plan worked!]
Holidays are here - son has given me impressive cough, runny nose & Greta Garbo husky voice. Sadly I still have another week in the office but the lads can sleep right in. [Now, cold has worn off & holiday set in, at last!]
Eyeing the coop summer food advert, I wonder if those are stuffed tomatoes or stuffed peppers - if you enjoy you would enjoy the latter, just do not use those cute little Scotch Bonnet peppers, or trust unlabelled ones...
One week til holidays. A countdown for which I no longer need to take my boots off... Which reminds me of walking on sand, toes tickled by surf. Yes, I think at least one morning starting at a beach is in order.
Colleagues discussing food online (I do make trying to diet hard on myself) described chips beans & cheese in a local cafe - sounds like my lads would love that, so Scarborough has appeared on my holiday destinations list! Me, I'm going for a Haltwistle Haggis supper if it is the only destination for Me to choose. I'm just the driver, mostly.
Waved to the tailor - got a return benediction & wonderful grin.
Photos of Canadian cousins - youngest & I seem to be on the same wavelength regarding beaches & footwear - having removed all covering, she neatly filled one shoe with pebbles. Which made a brilliant tag shot to the industrious happy portrait!
Oh! Spotted a nasturtium that seems to have grown despite everything... I recant my harsh words about poundshop seeds & croon to little variegated leafed nasturtium!
Did a photostroll from work to carpark & phone snapped ten different flowering urban weeds. May try for the various grasses tonight. [Forgot & just hustled home]
Car park bloke observing thoroughly overcast sky lamented the end of summer. He asked if Canada was colder - not 'alf! He's seen us get stressed by barely 2 inches of snow & the Canadians thrive on feet deep of it. However, like any good Briton, All Weather can be grumbled about!
I heard "Are you tempting J into bad ways? With chocolate?" & piped up "it's one of the kinder methods..."
Inspected the Scouts' planting from last week & all appear to have survived & only one is at a notably rakish angle. Pretty good for scouts & the shrubs are doing well too.
Knots - I taught clove hitch using the 'fish on a dish' mnemonic & learned to tie a bowline, blindfold! Taught Scouts how to test it too - it's the lifeline knot & should not slip tight or (worse) undo... I love my Scouts!
Last day before holidays. Eep the admin! A whole month off work, time with family and we may even run a stall at a car boot (um, questionable pleasure!) & not having to set an alarm every weekday.
Walking into the office enjoying the green leaves the dark trunks & the old stone before I get to the brick & concrete modern bit!
I have looked on a Clear Desk & it is barren, devoid of soul & unfriendly to creativity. Still, it is no longer my desk, and I'm on holiday.
Strange holiday quotes so far:
"Well, that's how towns start - a Poundland opens then a church and a pub and buses and then a school and you have a town..."
"When you have listened, I have found your conscientious objectors." (We visit a *range* of museums...)
Family meal out, eating Lebabese & hurrah all the menfolk loved it! Babaganoush & several ways with lamb (shish tawook, shish lamb kebab, lamb kafta just 3 memorable mains) & some amazing sauces, washed down with mint tea (best way to stuff yourself with near impunity at the time)...
Watching sons skimming stones - and hearing grandparents' share my delight in this.
Monster cute photos of little Canadian cousin - shown to mum & her favourites emailed to her - she thinks this phone is near magical!
Found a photo cube in a charity shop - will use it to get around lack of photos when desk sharing. Possibly also secure storage for Playmobil 'logo'... [long story, short version, my address is "2nd floor, monitor with Playmobil figures"]
Watching sons trying to leap up onto a felled tree. Youngest shrewdly went to thin end, hopped up & teased bigger brothers who were doing boots & shirts no good at all. Eventually all up, all laughing, photos taken - hurrah! Laundry can wait...
Sharing breakfast items can be tricky, but oddly the chaps commend orange-juice-dipped-fried-egg as less greasy & with a pleasing tang...
Waved farewell to relatives, leaving one moist eyed that not only had we got her a drink she couldn't get either at home or in a pub, but one in a charmingly reusable bottle. [Aldi pink lemonade, in 750ml glass with Grolsh style closure] That we were leaving her in peace probably helped.
Coming home! Hearing assorted communications devices thrum & chirp & offspring chortle as social networks are reestablished. Also Own Bed!
Hearing family restarting endless games of pool (with 'banter') - they have been coaxed from their electronic world by the simple challenge/delight of thrashing their parents...
Cheering son through setting up his new geocaching gadget (impetuous youth wanting to do three things at once!) [Frith, would your lads consult on loc files & garmin gadgets as I'm turning grey faster than planned?! When you get back, naturally!]
A happy child is enjoying his hot chocolate. Judging mostly on the volume of the slurping noises.
Curled up under the pool table (after repeated cries of "you're in the way") husband just shook his head "she's made a fort"...
Saw a real live meerkat examining the shoppers in a mall near home. Not sure which zoo or wildlife team were fundraising but splendid choice of crowd pleaser!
Is it wrong, when son bites cautiously into a not quite ripe goosegog & snarls "minging!", to think "oh good, all the more for me"? [mila, he didn't like it At All but explaining 'minging' is beyond me.]
We have harvested by sickle & by hand the bere barley - before the rain! The emmer & einkorn, having much better starts, can deal with a bit more rain in exchange for more sun but the bere was suffering.
I have sat face to face with a frog & we both stayed calm. [Last time we met, in the kitchen, I was less than welcoming.] I am to research frog hotels that we may encourage visiting slug eating amphibians to take up brief residence, devour all slugs & move on.
Son confusing ballet dancers with burlesque dancers... Swiftly corrected!
A while back we bought the thick heavy duck fabric to make the fabric outer of a straw mattress or palliasse - this afternoon we stuffed it with Bere barley stalks & now eldest is zonked out on it - another Researching Historian hard at it!
Great Big Hugs to all who need them, Merry Christmas *whenever* you celebrate it, and now there is a sort of mattress, will my husband Ever Leave the Shed? Best of luck for all new things!0 -
DigforVictory, here's the link for the homemade slow cooker kebab: http://www.muminthemadhouse.com/fakeaway-slow-cooker-doner-kebab/
It got a thumbs up in our house and the other half would rather have one of these over a takeaway oneI used more lamb mince though because he's an animal and tried to steal some bits from my plate the first time I made it!
Love the puns from your youngest!
Five for Monday:
1. Getting closer with the mortgage bumpf
2. Finished my MA coursework and felt a lot of relief the second I got the digital receipt for it!
3. Cranberry and pear candle filling the kitchen with a lovely smell
4. Made stew for the first time and it was A-MA-ZING!
5. The feeling you get from clearing out0
