  • 1) A productive visit to the local Boot Fair this morning where some treasures were purchased for very little cash.

    2) A visit to a Country Fair which has been very nice, haven't sone one for ages.

    3) Watching the Lurcher long jump competition and enjoying watching long dogs without the ache in my heart for our Dockling.

    4) First experience of watching Horse Boarding which is amazing. It's a 2 person and one horse team event, one rider on horseback towing the second team member on a wheeled board similar to a surf/snow/skate board at speed round an obstacle course, some of the steeds were ex race horses and very, very speedy and there were some spectacular tumbles off the board but thankfully no one was hurt and as a spectator sport I'd willingly pay to see it again, such fun.

    5) Getting up close and personal with a pen of fantastic Otter Hounds, huge and extremely hairy but so friendly and nice, think it's love!!!

    2) then very nice supper with friends
    3) Saturday morning binge watching - line of duty and 2 episodes Marcella
    4) Saturday evening free live from met tickets for Electra from gbf. Totally fabulous. Took dd1
    5) then treated her to tea at the beer kitchen, fortunately beer not obligatory as neither of us like it
    6) today lovely christening then lunch at library while proof reading course (took lunch with me)
    7) then friend's birthday party

    Pleasures for today (Sunday):

    1) A lie in.

    2) Bigger son continued working on new tiny shed for the allotment.

    3) Two visits to hens (bigger son went three times more on his own!) The hens are now obsessed with the perches he put in yesterday and fly on to them and jump from one perch to the next! They take blades of grass that we hold out for them now.

    4) Smaller son poorly all day (hot and was sick) rather like he was in the great kidney infection of 2015... but he says this is not the same. Pleasure is that he recovering.

    5) Chilli from the freezer for tea (Jamie Oliver's veg recipe) then bigger son made sticky toffee pudding - recipe from Nigella.

    6) Man with iron handshake came to collect tumble dryer through Freecycle.

    7) With tumble dryer gone, cleared out all of porch, a dumping ground. Loads of room in there now.

    8) Won "new" 1930s hooks on Ebay as I have snapped nearly all of them off the back of the door and we need new ones to hang our coats on.

    9) Sat on sofa with ailing son and watched Skyfall.

This is the loveliest thread, counting blessings and focussing on the day to day pleasures that bring feelings of well being in a way that material things rarely do and that cost nothing at all.
    Yesterday mine were:
A lovely chat with DD as I made some soup for our lunch
An evening on the sofa, wood-burner on and a big bowl of hm popcorn watching TV with DS
An early night with a good book that I got from the book swap at work.

Today is shaping up equally nicely as I didn't have to set the alarm as I have an extra day off work as its a Bank Holiday so I've come back to bed with a coffee to have a catch up on here and to read for 1/2 an hour as I listen to the wind and the rain outside.
Hope you all have a good day :)

Well it would seem I'm now on my days off again.
Work is done and was actually bearable, however, I shall be handing in my CV to another place ( non foody) tomorrow , had a lovely chat with business owner ...will see what pans out....what will be will be.

I have actually had to put the heating on, it was so chilly. Have closed all the curtains and blinds. It's been such an icy wind all day. I do have a big jumper on and thick socks but was still cold!

We had lovely tea last night, meatballs made from the burgers I'd brought home from work, with chopped up bacon, peppers and onion and some lurking in the fridge pasta sauce and pasta. Everyone agreed it was lovely.

Tonight's will be beans on toast for me and OH and paninis ( brought home from work with bacon and cheese for kids.

We had s massive storm through the night Saturday into Sunday but I'd forgotten when I woke up....until I took the dog out and saw twigs and brainches everywhere and all over the roads to work....first thing I asked boss....was there a storm? Yes there was a BIG one and I think another one due tonight.

Got a lovely letter from my letter writing friend, our mail must have passed each other as I wrote to her last week thinking I hadn't heard from her for a wee while.

Wrote to my other letter writing friend and enclosed photos form our citizenship ceremony, got a certificate of welcome from our local MP today ....please do not bend said the envelope.....we now have 5 crushed certificates!

Haggis dog was out working today so he's now home and very happy to see his dinner and then me and yes...in that order! McCulloch he has one of those take your time eating your dog food bowls .ha! He laughs at that! Scoffed every time in seconds!

Right we are warmer now , shall turn heating off.

Enjoy your bank holiday Monday .hope the sun shines .

The fairies are dancing round the pole!

Foxes, I ask you! You should see the BoP's buck of face for that!

5 Well the Dog Pot snorker fest is brewing on the stove, ready for serving up later! Proper foods for you! Last night what can I sway about the Dog Pot, except it was absolutely delicious. And the chocolate sponge with the instant lumpy custard was fantastic. BoPsie loves the instant lumpy custard! Raffles had a treat as well. Cocoa was consumed later. Proper cocoa, not that foam drink!

4 This morning BoP has another bowl of golden flakes with ice cold milk. Jam on hot buttered toast was also consumed! Tea was drunk. Rubs Tum.

3 Off for a walk round canal and the church that is always inn the brochures of the Cotswolds later. Proper stuff! A wobbleade may also be purchased!

2 At last the tree of cherry has blossomed. Looks good, and the birch and plum tree are going strong. Raffles get up in them quite easily these days.

If you want someone to come round, you have to invite them!
Oh flock, I has 20,000 thanks!

    Pleasures for Sunday

    1. Feeling more with it today - shopping done at 10am opening time - no rushing, no queues and plenty of car parking spaces
    2. washing done and line dried
    3. cut the lawn ... with all the rain and sun the grass (actually mostly weeds, daisies and clover :o ) was really lush and green - love the smell when freshly cut
    4. managed to rescue some free weedkiller powder from DP's that had solidified - must have got damp - smashed up with a hammer then diluted in watering can and sprinkled on the weeds in the alleyway at the end of our garden. Its been a few weeks now since any fly tipping. Fingers crossed
    5. Caught up on some recorded TV after DS went off on night shift - Sleepy Hollow (the series not the film) and a film After Earth

Listening to John Lewis-Stempel on r4, having read about him in grauniad months ago:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07b3nfs
Marge Simpson hair+conditioner pile-up will last as long as writing this, then final rinse before:

    1. osp on several levels, as weather looks typical 'Not Great+Later Rain' for Reach Fair, to which I'll head and long-trek nonetheless. But we all go because it is what it is, since the year 1201...as ref.d in many posts passim
    http://www.reach-village.co.uk/reach_fair.html

    2. Most excellent, reading of that intelligent Lady B Hen, Frith :-), of which I thought as a young Casper was baptised in our benefice yesterday:-))) Naturally she instructed Marigold and Samantha in the joy of Perch Jumping.

    3. About to ransack vjm's osp posts here for that marvellous cheaty fudge recette and make more to go in various containers for enzed - a fortnight demain. Oh! that wonderful, confirmed 23kgx2 baggage allowance is une richesse sans pareille. Still don't know outcome of family+Drs mtg re: Uncle being at home.
As accustomed readers here do knowe, no phone working to make contact is the norm. Will try again tonight.

    4. Lovely 13 issue run of these during early hunt'n'gather hier:
    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ABC+MAGAZINE+D%27ART+1927&biw=1024&bih=581&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2kJqPh7vMAhWbHsAKHW-TDxsQ_AUICCgD
They are stunning, cond. VG+, and one had a sheaf of h-m prep.sheets for a 1943 calendar that didn't see completion. Such serendipity is why & loves doing what & does.

    5. Recent Emporium episodes: butchery new boy is training up nicely:-)
[If you're not a lover of offal, look away now]
& will relish rtc enzed lamb's liver in casserole format, with rtc butternut squash and [not bop's] rtc toenail onions and 2 rtc ham ends in rtc fenugreek/basil/tomato sauce. That's 26p+9p+9p+19p+11p+14p. 6 portions easily. May sound yeughhhh, but last night's taste of sauce deems Otherwise. It's divine, but & is never quite at ease with buying even rtc bits not prepped from scratch.
Cannot buy beans already sliced, fruit already segmented, veggies already peeled and chopped - apart from immediate loss of goodness when such prep. starts and the gases used inside the packaging, so rare occasionals only.

5a. New2& solid oak door is in :-) which meant & also cleared out a porch, Frith. Turned out to be a pig of a job, fitting a decent door into crapulous epistylon. Chunk of hard-earnt Spits£s now in hands of long-known, mostly retired, brother of someone. 3 jobs, including reconstruction of garden room he put up years ago, now inherited by &, and new fencing. All will be done by time & returns. He rather keenly offered, which was marvellous and unexpected. 'Well, I put it up once, a really good job that was and they never used it. I reckon I can do it again', with smile in voice. Bought new roof felt/underlay/glue etc. using Ancient&Discount last Wed.

5b. 2 someones have settled up and paid & for 2 somethings, one o/s for over 3 years :-)
    ~
mcc and dfv - always good to see you here again.

So many moments bring msers of this forum to mind, unmet though you are. Lainey - picked up, amid another heap of terrific unused linen teatowels for rugby club, this one:http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMDg3/z/bh0AAOSwzgRWxkl0/$_1.JPG
Another exceptional heard pleasure of last week was this - Lawrence of Arabia:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01p6p7s
David Lean's film certainly hit small town enzed& at a telling moment.

Have fibbed, have just rinsed hair and now I'm back with towelling heap.

  • Not oft that BoP goes twice, but this is bull excreta!

Sorry, so you spend hours a week going late into shops, hoping for bargains, and taking what is left! Must be a tiresome life!
    zl2i2x.jpg

And if I had to buy the golden flakes of Corn, it would still be less than £20!
  • 1) Yet another morning out, this time to a Food Fair at the Wield and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton in Sussex, weather was dry if cold and we had a nice walk round the museum too.

    2) Walked Cookie when we got home and got both of us back before the rain arrived, can only be good!

    3) Found some yummy things, Honey Fudge, New York Deli Rye Bread and O'Hagans sausages. It would have been a crime not to buy them wouldn't it?

    4) Found a pin and picked it up!

    5) The weather forecast says it's going to get warm this week, Oh how I've been longing for warm and I know I'm not alone in this!
