BoP - more Ludlow than Worcs ;-)

    Quick pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep. Very sluggish as still have hacking cough and cold. It has not gone since I was in Brighton (well, week before that!)

    2) A tricky day at work and more procedures to follow.

    3) A quick check of hens at 4ish showed Barbara is now standing on two feet! No eggs today. Perhaps today's eggs would have formed on Sunday, and it was too stressful?

    4) Tiger bread with a hole in the middle and camembert in there for tea.

    5) Tried to go swimming but timetable has changed. Drove back through very impressive blizzard. Went to check hens who had chosen to stand in the third of the run NOT covered by carpet so they were glistening with snow/droplets. :-/

    6) In bed with 2 hwb.

    5)
  • 1) More free wood for the burner in the form of roofing joists taken out for an extension.

    2) Hoeing the flower beds in the sun this morning and the herb bed in the back garden which is much more sheltered.

    3) Jacket potato for lunch and a smashing avocado and black bean salad, yummy!

    4) Met a nice new dog on the walk this afternoon a Staffie cross called Hank, such a nice boy and a rescue who has only been with his new mum for 3 weeks, they look happy!

    5) We have a robin regularly visiting the garden for worms/grubs etc. think there must be babies in a nest somewhere close, hope we see them fledge, baby robins are the sweetest things.
  • I have had to revoke all free passes to BoP's ramblings to get a complete refund, Press Blue
Any post can be converted at no extra cost!

Frith, I says the Outskirts! BoP not going that far to get back on the M5!

5 On hold or what. Looking good for two, so choices about to be made. Both new grounds again. Fingers still crossed!

4 Before I get ranting on and on, the other night, we decided to have reversion foods again. Sardines on toast! You know, you had them as a kid, and forgot how tasty they are. Rubs Tum! Spread on hot salted buttered toast, with fresh cracked pepper. Lovely!

3 So tonight's tea will be ... Oh I have boiled some eggs!

2 Went for walk down the disused canal and that lovely Cotswold church that is inn every brochure! Hotel has plonked two boats in front of it. Never mind, went into town, then home. Raffles followed part of the way, but does not like the main road!

We should be careful in the search for absolution that we do not castigate all

Still sneezing and wheezing so in bed already.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Training day at work.

    3) Hoorah for the NHS (again). Took bigger son to the doctor and he has a second emergency appointment at 9 tomorrow.

    4) Cheating tea.

    5) Off to see the hens. They are not supposed to have perches while their legs are weak so it was surprising to see Barbara suddenly take off and try to land on the top of the tiny door between the run and sleeping area! She only stopped there for a few seconds as it is so awkward - a perch will be fitted at the weekend. 1 egg today. Nice bedding came through the post so the sleeping end hay was cleaned out and new stuff put in. All in bed when I went down at 9 to shut the door.

    6) Just went to say goodnight to smaller son and he quoted me pages of An Inspector Calls that his class had listened to this afternoon and he had memorised.

Good morning from a rainy ( very mild ) Friday morning. Just spoken to UK friend's daughter who had a birthday today....she does not sound like it has passed her bedtime!

Pleasures of last few days....hmmmm...maybe not being at work and just relaxing!

Have handed in a resume to somewhere near my current work looking for staff. Updating my resume....are my exam qualifications from 1985 really still valid? Seems silly putting them on...however!

Had a dinner guest last night, an absolute blast from my past. Very old boyfriend from 29 years ago would be in the area and wanted to catch up with OH and I ( how I met OH) , have not seen him a very long time and my teenage heart was broken at the time and I carried a lot of resentment about how it all ended ( he cheated) for a long time! ( back in the day! ) anyway. He was invited here . I made my usual lasagne ( with an extra one for the freezer) the most perfect roast potatoes, honey roast carrots, sprouts and peas....using up what was in the fridge. Made an apple upside down cake which was delicious and used up the remains of a big bag of rtc apples I'd bought the other week. All a bit awkward to start with and it just reinforced that my lovely husband was the perfect choice for me! ( not that that was ever in doubt! )

My poor DD1. Regular readers may remember her so called friend upped and left her in Europe at Christmas time. So a few texts have been sent between them. DD1 offering to catch up , 'friend ' brushing off any suggestions of this, "too busy" ' at work ' etc. she sent DD1 a text the other week when she received citizenship, congratulating her. On Wednesday DD1 was at her old school helping out showing prospective parents and pupils around , her favourite teacher had asked some ex pupils to come back. Fave teacher then said have you been in touch with 'friend' , I think you should try and catch up and find out what went wrong and move on. So DD1 sent her a nice enough text on Wednesday night. Went to uni yesterday afternoon, did a volunteering stint at a primary school, went back to uni and get the most offensive text from 'friend' ....who is now named as b!tch on her phone. She'd sent me a copy , I'd sent her a loving text back and straight away she called in such a state. So I'd to drop what I was doing and pick up this hurt and upset girl from uni . She was distraught. Dd1 sent her a text back and then another one along the lines of ...and another thing! Her other lovely friend came round and joined us at the dining table and diffused some awkward silences! Anyway, she has written a cathartic letter that will never be sent and hopefully can move on!
As Dougie Mclean sings in one of my favourite songs 'Caledonia ' " lost the friends that needed losing and met others on the way "

House is relatively tidy ( a dinner guest always spurs me on!)

Enjoying autumnal food of soups and apple crumbles ( from huge bag of rtc apples ) will make more soup today using up some scary veg .

Have a good Friday when it comes around

Some pleasures for the last few days,

At last some justice for the Hillsborough families, the multi party cover ups shame everyone with Mr Murdoch towards the top of the queue.

Digging out jumpers, hats and scarves again to cope with the cold, wet and changeable weather, silly really for nearly May and worries the heart over what we are doing to the worlds weather.

After messing my darling Mum around quite a few times re fixing one of her solar panels, annoying engineer got both barrels from Lainey about causing anxiety to an older person. To be told she doesn't need to be in and then bombarding her with phone calls demanding she comes home so they can get in the bungalow is unacceptable. She was in the next town having a blood test and got very upset. Think the rude jobs worth now knows not to mess with my Mum:cool:

Wednesday was Captain Scarlet's birthday, went into Cambridge for lunch. Cold and blustery walk around the "backs" blew the cobwebs away, found him some good leather trainers in the sale and then a delicious lunch in a trendy bar that was surprisingly full of the older generation. Eavesdropped on the next table and was impressed with how the manager dealt with a complaint, with that level of customer service and tasty, realistically priced food we will be back.

And yesterday was my last day of old working hours, from next week will do four days and finish at 2pm :j Had another meeting (they do seem to like those) and once again congratulated on difference am making, hope they remember this come pay review time!

Went over to see my equine pal after work, this cold/wet weather isn't doing him much good but being out all day at least he can keep moving. Am hoping it warms up soon so we can go for a little ride down the lane, boy do I miss it.

    Yesterdays pleasures:
    1. A visit to Manchester Central library which is a lovely building; and new book stock was out:) came home with four new books and will be their first reader.
    2. Had a delicious lunch with my daughter who works in the city centre.
    3. We met at the John Ryland library, another amazing building!
    4. Snowing still when I got home so snuggled down with the dog and freshly brewed coffee and read for an hour. Bliss.
    5. A pair of greenfinches on the bird feeder at 6.15 yesterday morning. In 41 years here I have only ever seen greenfinches on the allotment near the river valley, never in our garden.
  • I am afraid it looks bad for the weather this weekend. If you heading down the M5, BoP wishes you good luck! I will see you twice at Thornbury!

Other holidays are available, Click Here

5 Just got the mushrooms inn for tomorrows snorker fest. There are loads as we are having the BoP Storma this evening. Rubs Tum!

4 Breakfast BoP again feasted on Golden Flakes awash in fresh semi skimmed milk. Proper stuff! Tea was also drunk!

3 Last evening BoP was out and about, not painting the town red, but at the CC. Good show again! Only two left for the season!

2 Night BoP has lined up a decent Monroe! We have had BoPsie Burts and Newman and Reynolds in recent weeks! My turn. Wobbleade will be consumed!

    Name the other team?

Capella - rousing congratulations on allotment, dog & recovered health! John Ryland a smashing building just too close to Waterstones for my bank balance!
chella - to wake without an alarm clock, then tea in bed - bliss! I think Thrones is an OS pleasure - certainly my family adores it.
mhagster - love the love shack & welcome back to real life, botherit, with extra bruises. Do hope DD feels better now severed relations with 'friend'.
Firth - my, hens And eggs! ('Samantha' has me chortling.) Promsied a shoulder of muntjac - yum! And medics & sons, but hopefully everyone recovering (including you)?
Skint yet again - we got stuff onto the line too! (The youngest son really is a hapless Lunk at pegging, but can fetch stuff in quickly when the weather changes. To each their strengths...) Clean sock mountain on dining table - ours migrates from the middle of, to the floor at the foot of, our bed.
BoP - Toad with roasties? Sh, the lads'll hear & come looking all hopeful.
Mrs LW - share the love for blossom! Sat a bit away from a cherry tree which is a gradually growing explosion of pink confetti...
Lainey - wren? Aren't they glorious & So Small?! Hurrah for the way you & your mum watch out for each other. Happy Birthday Captain S!
DundeeDoll - attagal DD2 getting Edinburgh job!
kittikins - hurrah for planning & being in the thick of changes rather than startled later.
village life, has DS2 now fathomed cloud storage Just In Case?!
VJsmum - glad to hear you happy in Bergerac-ville & bravo DS! Congratulations on 25 years
ampersand - delighted to be shown technique to fold Shire Hall into (I hope) cooperation?! May all your plastic cooperate.
Purple kitten - tea and cake Wednesdays - into what alternative universe have you wandered?! Your anniv if Yours first & a number to nudge gift ideas second.

    OS Pleasures recently
Discovering why my husband so loves this fleece top - it's near knee length on me & it's glorious - warm & comfortable & I'm planning to make a copy.

    Startling warmth! Plus all this sunlight & gardening? I'm happy & crackered. [Plus next morning creaky but still smiling.] {er, these pleasures were all vivid At The Time}

Glorious moon. Not yet full but shining lovely. [Now full, and glorious]

Beaming as my skip-snaffled wheelbarrow has middleson entranced & cooperative. A Haemmerlin 90 litre heavy duty wheelbarrow, and he's weeding like a trooper.

Mozzarella slices get the holiday treatment - son sporting a dashing (if somewhat caddish) moustache & dunking another strip in his breakfast tea - it's "just experimentation"...

Whereas the mozzarella & lemon curd experience was "disappointing". A brother has gone for toasted cheese with jalapeño chunks. Another has gone for butter with toast. I forget too quickly how Holiday Breakfasts can be a bit surreal.

Victoria Wood clips - all the right laughs alas for the worst reason. Far too young.

Axe throwing with son & I got two lucky hits. "Pocohontas!" Then "Ninja!" Then a couple of misses, which restored morale. With a dilly into nettles, which led to some unfortunate language. Still, a startlingly restful activity by & large.

"I'll make you generic brown soup number 17" - ah, youngest knows my weaknesses too well!

A day with almost all the family out in the garden planting & improving things. Followed by gallons of tea! Hours later, I appear to have a suntan & middleson has developed several interesting clicks on movement.

"Little does he realise I have his pillow, And His Soul..." - sadly little brother not only aware of former but striding over to seize said article. With an expression that said the soul issue would be held over for later discussion. In a larger space, with fewer witnesses.

Watching noses & ears turn pink and various expressions develop on faces as we sit at a picnic table on a hill devouring cold food in a very brisk wind. Our Family Holiday Treats take many forms...

Son's expression tasked with finding One Bank Statement. I have sufficient information to gain apparently legitimate access - but still no statement (some evidence of residence requirements *ought* to be easy, yet in this digital age?).

My husband's bemusement that I could reach such a high pitch (an outraged squawk at the 9.9% cut the coinstar machines apparently take) which he opined would startle neighbourhood dogs.

"Oooh glorious sunset!" "Someone nuked Liverpool?" Oh my sons... [Before Hillsborough verdict - they're not football fans but brother Scouts are.]

Dulcet cries of anguish as sons realise they will be parading (Scouts celebrating Dt George's Day) in the rain. Happily we studied hypothermia a fortnight back, so recusant child has been bid have soup ready for our return.

"It dd squeak but it got run over by the forklift." *Why* did I ask how friend's dog came to have purple cupcake chew toy?

The cherry trees are in blossom! (One week leave and they leap from bud to bloom!) So generous with flowers they're almost wasteful and yet the very generosity is beautiful & all the more so as it is for so short a time. Housman was right.

Son has a new axe & is currently insisting on taking it Everywhere with him. It's masked, so bedtime is just a potential princess & the pea situation. [Not as much as a bruise. Clearly no princess, my lad!]

Exchanged good mornings with a down & out chap - urged him to pop round the corner when he'd time to enjoy the cherry blossom. This morning we agreed sunlight & blossom was therapeutic. We love the generosity of it, heaped scoops of flowers.

Eavesdropping on evac chair training - sizeist task! Seems you're supposed to swap every two floors so teams of four trained.

Ah, Spring! Glorious sun, rain, howling winds, snow & now thunder & lightning. In one day. Himself worried for cereal just planted, & I reckon if it grows in the Orkneys, the seed will feel right at home...

Doing a media-for-destruction audit, counting CDs etcetera & binning stray paperwork from 3 retired colleagues, I find a collection of English Beers & boxes of unburned disks. Should be an interesting agenda item at the next meeting!

Great big hugs to all who need them, sunlight and restored health all round (Raffles, more of your finest Yellow Stuff, if you would?) and happy Bank Holiday Weekend!
