Well.....back to normality! Couldn't live in the love shack forever.but was lovely while it lasted. We checked out yesterday morning, went and said goodbye to the Pelicans. Drove a very convoluted journey home. OH does like a windy road....me...not so much. It's the most stunning , stunning scenery . Stopped off for late lunch in an old sheep shearing hut turned bistro in the absolute middle of nowhere.
Whilst we were away....DD1 moaning about everyone, DD2 moaning about everyone, he said, she said, he didn't do this, she wouldn't do that....lalalalalala can't hear you! Since my son could speak he has asked what's for dinner.....every day! So DD1 was horrified that he was asking her ! There was plenty food and they are all able to cook but maybe just maybe I do too much for them? Anyway , they survived, house survived and most importantly Haggis survived!
Back to work today, had to send colleague home....when someone starts vomiting in your kitchen bin they really shouldn't be there. Managed on my own till other guy came in. This was our quietest / lowest takings day ever. Closed earlier than normal. My hours have been cut , have asked why and been told it's temporary. I will review in a month but I can't really afford to do these hours long term but have decided to embrace the time off. Still working at bloody weekends though! A new job may be required.
OH had a further day off and came and picked me up, we went and bought a blooming electric blanket.....one that can be controlled on either side, so I can still be cool and he can be toastie! Had to go to a massive shopping centre to buy it as our local stores didn't have in stock. I cannot be bothered with the amount of shops / commercialism.
Bedtime for me.
Happy hens frith0 -
Hello all - back from lovely Jersey.
Warning - this will be a Jersey heavy post
1. Finally arrived. Jersey airport doesn't have the systems of other, bigger airports so the heavy rain / fog it had on Friday meant that planes could niether land nor take off. Our flight was supposed to arrive at 9.45 but the pilots have to be able to see the runway to land. One Gatwick flight ended up going back to Gatwick. Anyhow our original flight was cancelled but we were lucky enough to get on to the next one a couple of hours later. A bonus of only travelling with hand luggage is that we didn't have to wait to retrieve it and therefore were further up the queue.
2. It mostly didn't rain while we were there - there were a couple of showers but thats it. and they were mostly when we were inside. We didn't do one short walk to Corbiere lighthouse yesterday as we would have got soaked
3. Lovely attractions - the War Tunnels, Durrell's zoo, a steam museum that was more of a country life museum, and the (Nigel) Mansell collection (even though I am not an F1 fan, this was still interesting)
4. Amazing walks, mostly coastal path so very up and down but such stunning scenery
5. The bus service, we decided to use buses and not hire a car - made us slow down and plan better
6. the food - lots of fish - crab, mussels, cod, salmon etc etc. And a fab steak
7. DS's company - he is so much nicer out of the house.
8. DS insisting on doing revision for an hour a day "cos i want to do well":T
9. lovely hotel
10 A crisis involving a clash between dad and brother's girlfriend seems to have been resolved without me doing anything...:T
(for now anyway)
<<sigh>> like Mhags, i am back to reality today... it's a struggle.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
&'s really hammered the Thank'ees back in. Will they stay this time?

1. ..........all of which mattered not on long wander back from Shire Hall, where & prevailed, which DID matter:j:j:j, with persistent steely courtesy.
What sort of garbage-speak is 'We are not a customer-facing service provider', spoken by a real [ apparently. Claimed to be so] humanoid?
& asked her was she not embarrassed if having to mouth such toshery? Was it some obligatory script? If so, why? Advised same personoid, with quiet RP politesse and empathetic smile-in-voice that & would sit reading Maigret until A Relevant Someone could be found to read &'s unacknowledged, unanswered letters. The arrival of their Court Threat made this necessary. & was allocating day to resolving matter before taking further action.
Outcome 1: Appropriate Someone arrived rather quickly.
Outcome 2: Blistering attack by AS on internal incompetence in a blame-shifty way.
Outcome 3: All gone away, huge apologies blahblah.
Outcome 4: & has bullet-point hand-written summary on bit of real paper as requested, despite promise of emails, investigations yahdiyah. 'I think that would be wise, don't you? I'm sure, were our positions reversed, you would require same.' The AS agreed.
& is much relieved the nonsense is now dead....hopefully.
2. Ditto at revolving door Bank, who have given & some £s to make up for their Big Mess the 3rd. Bank person came and checked out new card, ready for &'s fee-free use of &'s own money in enzed in a few weeks.
Can't have mess of last time and no access to own £s.
3. Ditto at main &Bank across road in town of Uni. New full-time mgr introduced herself on last visit and like her style. Uh-oh -this time new PIN doesn't work on Savings Builder card. Re-ordered. We have the time, just.
4. ...all of which decreed timely Free voucher cake+hot drink invitation from Mr Lewis. Happily ascended and consumed lush Death by Choc number with cappu which lovely young man artified - trailed fern leaf through multi-layer creamy top, which & said was most AB suitable....he played rugby on hols in Queensland a couple of years ago.
Lovely lovely wind-down time until chuck-out hour. It's a terrific roofline/skyline view out over town of Uni.
5. Meteo crazies. & big hailed on at both ends of day from blue sunny sky, but not snowed on. Will have been in Shire Hall then:D. So, so cold out all day, even in sun. Collected election boards and they're up, Frith. Not sure who else but &'ll see them round here.

I asked smaller son on Sunday if he realised the relevance of the name, Ampersand - and he did! :-) I've chosen not to do the counting for the European referendum. I would not get home before 3am and would have to be up before 7 to go to work... and all for less than £50.
Pleasures for today:
1) Bigger son got up early to check on the hens this morning. One had forced its way past the sleeping end door and was stuck in the run. :-/ Seemed OK, though.
2) Work was hard going but I have been promised a shoulder of muntjac from my colleague (it's a very rural school!) Bigger son loves venison over any other food so we'll have it for Sunday lunch.
3) Went for a cup of tea with my school friend after work.
4) Back to check on the hens - 3 more eggs! Barbara still has a bad leg :-( We were told this is normal as the battery farm staff pull them out by one leg when they crate them up to be rehomed. My Marigold is bossy. Bigger son's Samantha has a golden "cape" effect due to her plumage. Sons can tell them apart faster than I can.
5) Mr Sainsburys appeared so we have some food in the house. And cat food.
6) Snowed! Lots of flurries and a blizzard at one point. Nothing has really stuck yet. Went from 10 degrees at 4pm down to 1 degree by 6.30.
7) Watched Holby.
8) Another check of the hens at 9pm and shut them in the sleeping end with a brick behind the door! Thought it better they were in there as they might be warmer in the smaller space. 2 were curled up and one was standing forlornly to one side. I think we need a webcam!
9) OOOOH! Nearly forgot! Halifax phoned again. They had already given me £80something for not shutting my a/c properly. Then it damaged my credit rating so I complained about that but, for 2 months, nothing was done. Well, it is all in hand now. They will phone me back in a few weeks to confirm and.... would I like £75!! They asked if I wanted more and if it had inconvenienced me and cost me time but I said no.0 -
Yesterdays pleasures:
An old, close friend, who lives a long way away and who is Manchester for a couple of day came to tea, and we spent hours chatting
An 84 year old lady at my craft group brought homemade cakes for us all to help her to celebrate her birthday. The lemon sponge was delicious.
Was on the allotment at 7am and saw two pair of greenfinches on the bird feeders. So happy, first I have seen there for over 4 years.
We found common newts when we started a patch of ground around a sunken bath. Ground is to remain uncleared and bath is staying put :-D
Watched fritillaries, meadow browns and ringlets in the sunshine, whilst drinking a cup of tea. Life is good! Need a better identification guide though.0 -
Morning all - 25 years ago today me and VJsdad were wed. And never a cross word between us - they've all been one way cos he won't argue back :rotfl: He was very well named - Peter, and he really has been my rock. It was a bliddy sight warmer 25 years ago too.
pleasures for yesterday
1. struggled to get back into work mode - but managed it by the end of the day
2. wore my new Doc Martens - didn't rip my feet to shreds but i will take it gently. I luuuurve them
3. Skype with DD - thought there was something to worry about but she was just being dramatic. well, she is a drama student :rotfl:
4. Justice for the 96 - as a mum who sends her 17 year old off to football matches, the thought that some never came back is just .....
5. four seasons in one day - it must be springand our beech tree is starting to leaf..
Have a fab day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

VJsMum Beginners!
& Waiting
5 Bin up to Telford, and back via Frithtown, or the outskirts of WosTer! This meant I did not have to sit in the Brummie car park near Walsall. Fingers crossed &
4 BoPsie on her way to gather in the coals and loaves this morning saw our Raffles on Patrol. Was chasing off an interloper ginger cat. Never knew he had it in him. Some boy!
3 Got house sorted out, and items for the mega death dump run next week, or the Monday afterwards, as BoP will not queue on Blank Holiday. Oh that reminds me, we will do our usual come Saturday. Down to Aust and back up via the queueing cars and overturned caravans, then do it again and see the same in the queue!
2 Day BoP has feasted on golden flakes of corn topped with cold milk, Rubs Tum. For tea BoPsie picked up a couple of pork pies on the cheap slider at w8rs.
Only the blame has been shifted0 -
Lovely anniversary words vjm, with many, many more to come.
Well done that revisionary son :-)

Had a gut feeling it would work this a.m. and so it did.......until it didnt.
V. glad that IC nursing tutor cousin was there and we spoke too.
& willl be there soon.
